Chapter 25: Hellfire, Part 1

"Hello, Charles Xavier. I am sorry that we could not meet in person, but that would be counterproductive. Who am I? I am not at liberty to say, but you may call me the White Queen, and I have valuable information. If you wish to learn it, you will follow the following instructions to the letter. On May Eve, send a representative to the Daily Bugle building by eleven in the morning, plus or minus a quarter-hour. Make sure you are not followed back, and under no circumstances are you to pass the Shaw Building at any point."

The tape ended, and Professor Xavier turned to the assembled staff.

"Any volunteers?"

Gwen, Jean, Kitty, and Jubilee raised their hands.

10:45:

An armored sedan rolled up to the Daily Bugle's offices and halted, along with three motorcycles following it.

"Figures. We show up early, and our guest isn't here. Anybody bring a crossword or something?" Gwen asked, adjusting her helmet.

As if on cue, broken glass rained down from an upper floor, while a woman dressed entirely in white followed it.

"You the White Queen?" Jean asked.

"We'll chat later. Now go before they show up." the woman replied

"Who's they?"

"I'm not at liberty to discuss."

As soon as the 'White Queen' had taken her seat, Jean floored it, while the trio of cyclists followed right behind her.

"Funny. I thought my former associates would have done something-"

Jean's headset went off.

"Grey, this is Stacy. We've got goons incoming."

The 'White Queen' rolled her eyes.

"They did do something after all."

"Little help here, girls!" Jubilee exclaimed as one of the goons rolled up to her motorbike and produced a retractable baton from their utility belt.

Gwen jockeyed into position and produced her own baton.

"Whatcha goin' ta do, b-" the goon began.

Gwen raised the baton and struck her opponent over the head, sending him tumbling onto the street. To her surprise, the other goons fled.

"We got them."
