Please remember to review at the end! :)
Caroline felt a power she never felt before as her hand lifted towards the rod in Klaus' belt. Tears filled her eyes, watching Mikael inflict pain on her husband, and her power faded from the pain.
"Stop it!" She screamed, when Klaus bit back a scream.
Mikael turned to face her, and sneered. "I've waited millennia for this, my dear. I have no intention of stopping." He stated, pushing the darkness into Klaus.
Caroline shook her head. "No, Klaus!" She shouted, trying to move, her feet still held by the darkness.
Klaus' eyes moved towards Caroline and she could see the tears inside them.
She opened her mouth, and tears fell down her face. "Fight." She mouthed, reaching for him.
Mikael laughed darkly, as the darkness formed small pins and stuck into Klaus' skin. Klaus couldn't hold back a scream as the pins felt more like knives.
Caroline bit her bottom lip. The pain Klaus was feeling was hitting her like waves. Tears continued to run down her face at the pain she was feeling from her husband.
"Tears won't save your husband." Mikael stated, with disdain in his voice at the word husband. "Soon, his darkness will overtake him, and he will be no more." He added, with a sneer.
Caroline shook her head. Anger filled her soul. No, she wasn't going to stand for it. She was the Lady of the Underworld, and she was also the Goddess of Spring. She was the wife of Niklaus Mikaelson, and no so called King of the Gods was going to destroy her husband or their love.
Staring into Klaus' eyes, she felt a fire pierce her soul. Her light was on fire. Klaus' gaze softened as he saw her eyes light with fire. Her head lifted an inch, and she extended her right hand. Exerting her power, she breathed deeply and stiffened her stance.
In a flash, the rod flew out of Klaus' belt and into Caroline's hand. With a jerk of her hand, which seemed so natural, the metal grated for the first time and formed the bident. Mikael's head twirled around and focused on Caroline as the rod flew past him. His eyes widened as the bident formed.
"No." He whispered, shaking his head.
Caroline smiled devilishly, and glanced at Klaus. She didn't say a word, as she struck the bident down on the ground, and the darkness began to dissipate, freeing her legs. She took a step towards her husband, but was blocked by Mikael.
"Give that to me." He stated, stretching out his hand.
Caroline sneered and scoffed, as she lifted the bident in her hand. "I don't think so." She stated, glancing at it. "Release my husband." She stated, firmly.
Mikael stretched out his hand into the darkness, and Caroline's eyes widened as he pulled out a dark sword from the darkness. "I hope you didn't intend for me to give up without a fight." He stated, twirling the sword in his hand.
Caroline shook her head. "I was hoping you would say that." She stated, leveling the bident in her hands like a staff.
Mikael chuckled. "You'll lose." He remarked, lifting the sword.
"We'll see." Caroline stated, glancing at Klaus, who was shaking his head. She lifted the bident as Mikael brought the sword down above her head. The metals sparked as they clashed in the dark cave, but it didn't distract her from her goal.
She pushed her body upward, and the sword went up, causing Mikael to stagger back slightly. She swung the bident to his side, but he blocked the advance by moving his sword to the side.
"Give up, my dear; you are not more powerful than me." He mocked, as she struggled with the bident.
"You're right." She grunted, lifting the bident, only to bring it down with its power being exerted, and slammed Mikael against the wall. "But we can." She stated, as Mikael tried to regain his balance.
With one swift action, she moved the bident upwards over the darkness holding Klaus, and it disappeared.
Klaus tumbled to the ground, but quickly stood up with Caroline flashing to his side. He smiled softly at her, and extended his left hand towards his fallen rod, which flew to him, as his right touched her face.
"Are you alright?" He asked in a whisper, going over her body with his eyes.
Caroline smiled at his concern. "I'm fine, but first we need to deal with Mikael." She stated, motioning to a stiff Mikael.
Klaus' expression became dark at her words. "Let's go." He stated stepping back from her and with a jerk of his rod, his bident formed.
Mikael smiled unexpectedly. "I wouldn't be so sure of your victory yet, Caroline." He stated, pointing towards Klaus.
Caroline turned her head, and she gasped as Klaus' face darkened as it gazed at her. "No, Klaus!" She shouted, watching him turn to face her.
Mikael began to laugh at the sight. "You see my dear, Niklaus' darkness is my creation, and so I control his darkness. He may be a bastard, but he is useful." He replied with satisfaction.
Caroline shook her head as Klaus began to advance towards her. "Klaus, snap out of it!" She shouted, holding her bident out to her, tears filling her eyes. "Damn it, Klaus!" She shouted her voice full of emotion. "I just got you back, don't you dare give up on me!" She shouted, sending a glare to Mikael.
Klaus swung his bident in front of him, but Caroline blocked it with slight difficulty.
"Klaus, please don't make me fight you." She cried, blocking another advance, watching the bidents spark with fire with each connection.
Tears began to fall down her face, though she fought to contain them. "Klaus, please, I love you." She whispered, as her back hit the wall behind her.
"I'm afraid that won't work, my dear." Mikael taunted, crossing his arms over his chest. "You see, that is my punishment for Niklaus. He will have to spend an eternity knowing he killed the only light in his life. It's poetic justice." He added, smiling.
Caroline rolled her eyes. Suddenly, an idea came into her mind, and she dropped her bident to the ground. She reached forward, and softly touched Klaus' chest. She watched his face soften slightly, but not enough, for he brought the pointed end of the bident up to her throat.
"Nik," She whispered, tears falling down her face. "You're stronger than this. Don't let him win." She cried, studying his darkened eyes. "Please come back to me." She added, softly.
She straightened her back, and felt the point of the bident, puncture her skin, as the rocks cut into her back. "Come back to me." She whispered again, watching his eyes soften.
She felt his grip loosen on the bident, and she took a chance. Moving the bident away from her throat, she approached him carefully. With cautious hands, she grasped his face and searched his eyes. "I love you." She whispered, leaning forward as the tears poured out of her eyes.
At first Klaus stiffened at the contact of her lips on his, but after a second, she felt him respond to her. She heard Mikael holler when he realized what was happening.
Klaus pulled back, and Caroline smiled as his eyes became the deep cerulean blue she loved. "Caroline." He choked out, touching her face.
She sniffed, and nodded. "You came back to me." She whispered, with a smile, rubbing her thumbs over his scruffy cheek.
He smiled, and nodded. "Always." He whispered, and then his face became serious. "Mikael."
He turned around just as Mikael ran up behind him in a surprise attack. He pushed Caroline to the side and ducked the advance. Caroline grunted as she hit the floor on her side, and lifted her head to see Mikael punch Klaus in the face.
She quickly sat up, and got to her feet when she heard Mikael scream. She stood up, and picked up her bident along the way.
Klaus staggered back, but didn't slow down, though the pain in his jaw was intensifying. He scowled and laid his right fist across Mikael's face. He watched in satisfaction as Mikael staggered back. He took a deep breathe. He glanced at his wife, and smiled darkly. She returned the smile just as dark, and he knew she was beside him.
Mikael sneered. "Is that all you've got, boy?" He stated, wiping the blood from his face.
Klaus' face darkened even more. "Oh, you have no idea what I can do." He stated, with an evil smirk.
Mikael chuckled. "Well, you have proven that you can do nothing." He mocked with a dark twinkle in his eyes.
Klaus clenched his jaw tight, and felt a hand on his arm. He knew without looking it was her. He felt her strength course into him.
He smiled. "I can do something, Mikael." He stated, extending his hand outward, feeling the cold metal of the rod in his hand. He jerked his hand and the rod transformed into the bident. "I can love." He stated, defiantly, glancing at Caroline. He glared at Mikael. "And I can kill you." He stated, stepping forward, with a swing of the bident he pushed Mikael across the room.
Mikael landed on his back, and growled, lifting his hand he pushed Klaus and Caroline to the ground, as he leapt up by rocking on his back and onto his feet.
Caroline grunted as her head hit the stone floor, but she felt Klaus help pull her up. She felt his arm on her back, and she glanced up at him.
He moved his head to the right, instructing her to what she should do. Caroline nodded, and moved to her left, attempting to circle around Mikael.
Mikael watched her carefully. "You will never beat me!" He shouted, throwing his hands outward.
On instinct, Caroline lifted her bident, and caught his magic with it. She held her ground, and moved her eyes carefully towards Klaus, who was taking advantage of Mikael's distraction. Lifting his bident up with the fork aimed to Mikael's back, he stabbed Mikael.
Mikael bent his back backwards as the bident stuck deep into his back. "Klaus!" He shouted, trying to reach the bident.
Klaus held onto the bident, knowing it was the one thing Mikael could not control. He shifted his eyes towards Caroline, and watched her lift up her bident. Lunging forward, Caroline pushed the bident into Mikael's stomach.
Mikael shouted at the pain. He lifted his head up and glared at Caroline. "I should have killed you when I had the chance." He growled, blood dripping from his mouth.
Caroline pushed the bident deeper into his stomach; a hard glare appeared on her once loving face. "You should have left us alone." She stated, through clenched teeth. "And you should not have underestimated our love." She continued, pushing the bident, reveling in Mikael's screams. "One thing about our love that you will never understand, it's pure and real." She added, glancing at Klaus. "Our love is true, and you cannot break it. Nothing will break it, Mikael." She concluded, with satisfaction.
Mikael screamed as the bidents grew hot inside of him. The power of Caroline's words and declaration poured into her bident, and was complete with Klaus' pride and love for her. This was why Mikael feared the bidents. Love was the most powerful force on this earth and beyond, coupled with the bidents' power, it made them unstoppable.
Mikael threw his head back and let out a scream. Klaus sneered as he leaned forward to whisper in Mikael's ear. "I told you I could kill you." He whispered, darkly, moving his eyes to his beloved. "She's right. Our love is pure, and it will never break." He stated, gazing into Caroline's eyes.
Mikael chuckled. "Who could ever love you, boy?" He asked, choking on his own blood.
Caroline glared at him, and leaned forward. "I do. I'll love him forever, you son of a bitch." She stated, pushing the bident further in, and exerting her power into it.
Mikael screamed, and felt his insides light a fire from within. He was burning. He was dying. His blood boiled from the inside, and made its way through his body. Klaus knew the end was near, and with tight lips, and a glance towards his wife, he pushed his bident into Mikael's body, until he felt his bident scrap with Caroline's. Blood poured out of Mikael's mouth and his screams became gurgled as he choked on his boiling blood. Slowly his body turned to ash from the inside out, and deteriorated to ash as it piled on the floor at Klaus and Caroline's feet. Mikael was dead, forever.
Klaus sighed and lifted his gaze from the ashes to his wife. Dropping the bident to the floor, he approached her with a slight stagger. Caroline dropped her bident, and met him halfway. With a small cry, she wrapped her arms around him, and held him tight to her shaking body.
His arms wrapped around her waist, and his hand threaded into her hair. His breathe touched the skin on her neck, as hers did to his. It was over. It was truly over.
He felt her lips on his neck, quickly moving up to his cheek. He pulled back to capture her lips with his in a hungry passion. They were safe.
They pulled back after a moment, and Caroline moved her hands to his face. "I thought I almost lost you." She cried, tears finally escaping her eyes.
Klaus leaned his forehead on hers and sighed. "So did I." He whispered, softly.
Caroline wept as the events finally hit her like a wave. "I was never so scared in my life. I thought he was going to kill you, and all I could think of was I couldn't and wouldn't let you die." She cried out.
Klaus nodded. "I know." He whispered, pulling his head back. "But we did it, Caroline. He's gone, forever. He's not coming back." He replied, tenderly but with a firm tone.
She nodded in return. "I know." She returned with a small smile. "I just can't help but think that as long as there is darkness out there; Mikael will never be truly gone." She whispered, gazing into his eyes before she looked at the ashes on the ground.
"But he is gone, Caroline." Klaus stated, firmly. "The bidents destroyed him." He paused, grasping her face in his hands. "We destroyed him." He added, placing an emphasis on we.
Caroline smiled. "Yes, we did." She stated with a tearful tone. "I've never killed anyone before." She whispered, quietly after a moment.
Klaus caressed her face gently in-between his hands. "We had no choice, Caroline. You have to believe that." He stated, searching her eyes.
She nodded. "I do. It's just…" She trailed off, glancing at the ashes. "I don't feel anything about it. All I feel is relief." She replied, lifting her gaze to his. "Relief that you're still here with me and you didn't give in to your darkness." She added, with a smile, touching his face.
He smiled. "How can I when my light was always in front of me?" He asked, rhetorically.
She smiled and let out a giggle. "Can we go home now?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.
He nodded, and led her out of the cave, only to pause to pick up their, now, rods.
It was brand new day for the world. The darkness was defeated, and showed no signs of returning.
~Bennett House~
The Bennetts sighed together at the sight they witnessed. They had watched the entire battle, and even had slight doubts when Klaus turned on Caroline, but in the end, their faith proved to be beneficial.
Mikael was destroyed, and this time he was gone forever, thanks to the Lord and Lady of the Underworld.
Ayanna smiled as she turned to her sisters. "It is finished." She whispered, proudly.
The others nodded with a smile. "Now what is in store for the Lord and Lady?" Sheila asked, watching the orb change its image.
Ayanna smiled as she watched the scene unfold before them. "Now they celebrate their union and victory. Tomorrow we shall go and congratulate them." She replied, waving her hand across the orb, erasing the image from the orb.
