Title: "Travelin' Soldier"
By: The Dixie Chicks
Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the bus in his army green
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gives him a smile
And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while
And talking to me,
I'm feeling a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go
-End Verse-
So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you
-End Verse-
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home
-End Verse-
So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart
It might be love and all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin' down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile
-End Verse
One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read but nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair
-End Verse-
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
To young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a traveling soldier
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home
-End Verse-
I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
To young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a traveling soldier
Never me to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home
-End Song-
Author's reference guide or whatever since I changed some stuff to make it fit.
- I changed "Travelin' Soldier" to "Little Blue Soldier" because it has the same amount of syllables
- I made Saruhiko 19 not 18, but I kept the two days thing
-Saruhiko left in his Annex 4 uniform so he was waiting in blue not green.
Aka the name of the story.
- I don't like strait couples... well hmmn when I say this is more that I don't take excitement in them. So anyway I didn't gender bend Misaki
- Red Head took place of now in the hair
-Saruhiko didn't say squat about being sad but Misaki did
-Misaki didn't get off in an hour so he said "I'll be off in a minute."
- They passed the pier but they didn't sit down
- Saruhiko didn't go to California for the army camp
- Saruhiko said he thought of Misaki when it got rough, but not specifically that day since they've known each other longer than this couple has
- I changed piccolo player to skateboarder ands didn't even mention a matching band
I added a ton of stuff but that's all I changed. So now that's done I finally stopped crying when I listen to this song since I had to listen to it so much to write, but I started crying reading the comments on the song today. I reallysuggest you guys listen to it. Well see you on the extra. I just added the lyrics here because more I'm ignoringthe song and adding something.
So I asked her out. She had to sit down and askme if I was serious a few times. We also started laughing since she thought I hated her since I'm pretty shy and come off as sad at school. Literally nearly everyday someone tells me to smile, or asks if I'm alright. It's fine though sincethe reason we laughed was I thought she hates me :P Punk hasn't answered yet, but I sort of think she still thinks I'm just pulling her leg. Anyways I'm excited for my meet today, but really nervous. I have to swim a 100 and my endurance is still bad right now and my count has changed (it's backstoke).
