Arendelle Palace
"Is it just going to be the two of us tonight?" John asked as he entered the dining hall following Elsa.
"Ahh, yes, I'm afraid there isn't anyone else to join us." Elsa replied with a smile. She made her way to the long side of the table and took a seat, motioning for John to join her.
"Thank you your Majesty." He bent his head before sitting beside her. For the awkward moment of silence when food was being brought in, John diverted his attention to the room. The table was decorated with a deep purple setting that matched the curtains and the carpet.
Gee, he thought, they must really like purple...
It wasn't as though everything was the same color. The chandelier was made up of thousands of small glass shards that glowed shades of blue, pink, and purple in the light of the fire. John wondered how a glass maker could construct such a detailed and intricate design? Then he remembered, it wasn't glass that decorated the ceilings, rooms, and the whole kingdom; it was ice.
John glanced to his right to look at the infamous Ice Queen. Her head was bent and she was twiddling her fingers in her lap. Her platinum hair, covered in ice crystals, glowed in the firelight and ran down to her lower back. He couldn't help but admire her as a whole. Her perfect posture, clear skin, and her eyes especially. Eyes the color of the ocean, eyes that sparkle when she smiled, eyes that were looking straight into his which was, for some reason, odd.
"Excuse me, sir?"
"Huh?" John turned to his other side to find a butler with a silver tray in his hands.
"Uh, I asked if you would like something to drink, sir." The butler repeated for what seemed like the hundredth time. John felt the burning reach his cheeks as it dawned upon him that he must've been staring at Elsa.
"Oh, uhm, water will be fine, thank you." John nodded and quickly diverted his stare to the table's center piece. Hmm, were those frost covered blossoms?
"You know, I cannot thank you enough for volunteering to find my sister." Elsa said while rearranging her silver ware.
"Well, I also wish to find my brother. The stubborn boy won't give up." John offered a grin when Elsa stared at him in shock.
"I hope to talk some sense into him before he makes a bigger fool of himself than he already has. But enough about my brothers problems, you've got a pretty nice dining room here!" John sat back in his chair with a nod of approval that made Elsa smile. Who knew a prince of class like him could also be so laid back as well? The fact that he could relax and treat her like a normal person made her relax more than she knew possible. He made her happy, and get this funny feeling in her stomach.
"Yes, though it is often empty and quiet." She replied.
"Quiet is good. Quiet is very good. You have no idea what I would give to live in a quiet place." He laughed and shook his head.
"Right, twelve brothers?" Elsa couldn't imagine what it would be like to live with twelve siblings.
"Yep, some of my eldest locked me in my bedroom to twenty-four hours. Did I mention that already?" He turned and looked at her. Elsa laughed and shook her head when Gerda marches into the room with trays full of delicious smelling food.
The following hour consisted of multiple courses of food, numerous hearty laughs, and many glances of admiration from both sides of the table.
"Well, I have to say, this was the first dinner I have enjoyed in months!" John placed his napkin beside his plate and slumped back. The servants had commenced the clearing of the tables and rushed back and forth between the kitchen and the room.
"Thank you for the invitation your Highness." John smiled.
"Well thank you for accepting." She replied. When she looked up from her hands, she noticed that he was staring at her, and all she could do was stare back. After a few long moments, he looked away.
"You know, may I be honest with you?" he asked after inhaling a deep breath.
"Of course." Hadn't he been honest for the past few days?
"I came here to Arendelle with the intention of passing my kingdom's apologies and sympathies to you, and then to leave. It was never my intention of staying here for more than twenty-four hours, and I never planned on getting to know you on a personal level. Then it happened and I actually made a friend with the Queen. Now, I'm sitting here having dinner with the Queen, and I'm getting ready to climb the mountains! And believe me when I say that I havn't done anything daring in my life other than tricking my brothers into locking themselves in our dung infested horse barn! But that's not the point. The point is, I met the one person I was terrified of meeting. I met her and we actually connected. She's different than any other person I have ever met, both in book and in person. She's quiet and gentle, yet fascinating all the while. I guess, I guess what I'm saying is this..." He paused to look her directly in the eye, his expression more serious than Elsa had ever seen.
"I think I am falling for the Queen of Arendelle. Is there any chance that she feels the same way?"
