Misery Business - Paramore
I'm in the business of misery,
Let's take it from the top.
She's got a body like an hourglass, it's ticking like a clock.
It's a matter of time before we all run out,
When I thought he was mine she caught him by the mouth.I waited eight long months,
She finally set him free.
I told him I couldn't lie he was the only one for me.
Two weeks we caught on fire,
She's got it out for me,
But I wear the biggest smile.
Danielle sat tuning her guitar when Charlie walked in to the bar.
"Hey what's shakin bacon?" the red head with a cheery look on her face.
Dani laughed and looked around "Not much, where's Gilda?"
Charlie frowned "She's having a bad day. Her parents are still having a hard time accepting that she's gay. Threatening to cut her off..you know…that old chesnut."
"Poor Gilda," Dani offered sympathetically.
"Poor Gilda? No way, poor Charlie…she's been on a rampage. She made me leave so she could have some alone time."
"I'm glad you're here actually," Dani said trying to distract her "I actually need some advice."
Charlie's green eyes brightened and she pulled a chair closer so she could relax.
"Do tell, it would be nice to be involved in someone else's drama for a change."
"Who says I'm talking about drama?"
"C'mon it involves you and Cas and by default Cas and Meg..drama drama drama," Charlie replied making puppet motions with her hand.
"It's actually only half about Cas, it's mostly about Ryan."
Charlie's eyebrow lifted "Ryan Walker?"
"Yeah," Dani said strumming her hand across her guitar
"Ooh la la, he's a cutie. Tell me more."
"Well he asked me if I wanted to go to the Slam Fest with him," Dani said not making eye contact as she continued to tune.
"And?" Charlie asked picking up Chuck's spare drumsticks.
"And I said yes," Dani said turning the guitar's knobs.
"So where is the question exactly?"
"Cas kissed me," Dani blurted.
"He did?" Charlie exclaimed "And? What does it mean?"
Dani's eyebrow furrowed "I'm not sure. I mean we really didn't talk about it."
"Why not?" Charlie asked as she twirled the drumsticks.
"Well he kinda was meeting Meg." Dani focused again on her guitar.
Charlie frowned "See? I told you..Meg drama."
"So do you think I should call the Slam fest thing off with Ryan?" Dani asked.
"Is it a date?" Charlie asked
"I don't think so, I mean before he asked me, I actually thought he was gay," Dani admitted.
"Well if you want to see where you stand with Cas, a little competition couldn't probably do that." Charlie offered.
"I'm not trying to do that, I just…"
"You wanted to know if I thought it was ok," Charlie replied "I was just kidding. And sure, I mean if you want to go, then go. It's not like you have a marriage proposal from either."
Dani considered it. Charlie was right.
"Castiel is always caught up in Meg's drama," Charlie added when Dani didn't speak "He'll never be free until he decides to let her go. If that kiss meant anything, then he needs to put Meg in her place."
Dani knew she was right but it didn't stop her eyes from wanting to tear. She looked down at her guitar again.
"Speak of the devil," Charlie muttered underneath her breath.
"So this is what the bar looks like when nobody's around?" Meg's cheery voice called.
"Garth is around here somewhere,"Charlie stood and straightened her flannel shirt "Dean will be here soon," she added for good measure.
"Oh joy," Meg replied sarcastically "Danielle, good to see you."
"Meg," she said surprised as she quickly removed the guitar pick from her mouth.
Dani looked at her in confusion.
"You're surprised to see me. There's been a lot of that lately.," Meg explained "Mind if sit?"
"Um sure," Dani gestured to the chair Charlie had just emptied. "Have a seat."
Meg took in the stage and looked out into the crowd area. Even now the stage lights were bright and she wondered briefly what it would feel like to perform.
Dani took her pick from her mouth and strummed again. Charlie crossed her arms over her chest and waited.
"Thanks," Meg said as she sat down and placed her hands in her lap "Look you're probably wondering why I'm here."
"And here I thought you just wanted to visit with us. Of course, Meg doesn't go anywhere without wanting something," Charlie replied.
Meg didn't acknowledge Charlie but continued to stare at Danielle. She was attractive with her dark eyes and dark hair that had the faintest skeins of green highlights.
Dani noticed the staring and touched her hair "I was bored."
Meg's lips tilted in a half smile "I just wanted to come by and say…thanks..you know for the other night."
Dani rested her hand on her guitar."I didn't do anything. That was all Cas."
"Yeah well," Meg cut in abruptly "I know but you didn't have to let me in, or let me stay…"
"No," Dani said taking in Meg's appearance. The girl's round face looked better than the last time she'd seen her. "I didn't but Cas is my friend."
Meg gave her a crooked smile "A friend, huh?"
Dani bristled "Was there something else you wanted?"
Meg looked at the girl closely. She hated to do this but it was the only way to keep Cas where she wanted him while she needed him "Actually yes."
"Ok?" came the slow reply
"I was actually hoping you could do me a favour." Meg asked, knowing the best way to keep Castiel would be to keep Danielle away.
"If I can, I will," Dani replied.
"We're coming into the club tonite..kind of a last hang out before the weddingand I want to make it special for me and Cas."
"You and Cas?" Charlie asked mechanically when Dani didn't reply.
"Yeah, I know, it's kind of a new thing but I want to make the night special so he knows how much I really I want to be with him. And I know how much he adores your singing voice."
Dani blinked rapidly to try to clear out the confusion on what she was hearing. Even Charlie was speechless.
"I was wondering if you sing one of these songs," Meg asked producing a list "One you could dedicate to us…kind of a special dedication from me to him. You guys can do that, right? I mean, you do it all the time."
Dani took the list in her hand and glanced down. She handed it to Charlie who muttered "Are you fucking kidding me?"
Dani shook her head at Charlie and cleared her throat before replying to Meg "I'm sure we could do that."
"Thanks so much," Meg said standing, her work done "I really appreciate. Making the night special and all."
Both Charlie and Dani watched as the brunette marched out as easily as she marched in.
"You're not seriously going to do that, are you?" Charlie asked incredulously.
Dani felt like crying again but solderied on "Sure, I mean you said it yourself. She's finally giving in to what he's wanted for years. To be with her. Who am I to step in the middle of that?"
"Uh you're the girl that's been in love with him since you first laid your eyes on him. The boy who finally kissed you this morning."
"Apparently, she seems to think different," Dani managed a strangled laugh "Besides you just ok'd me dating another guy."
"I didn't really think that would be anything," Charlie admitted.
"If it's what he wants," Dani said miserably, her breath hitching "It's what she finally wants. Who am I to stand in their way?"
