When Darcy finally met the mysterious Luna, she would be the first to admit, that she felt threatened by her. Who wouldn't, when the female shifter stood over a foot taller than her and looked like a model. It was Sam's idea to introduce Darcy to the woman, who wanted to meet her.
"It'll be fun," Sam insisted, as they took the drive to Luna's. "She's been dying to meet you. Emma as well!"
They parked outside the simple home, with its windows lit up with every light in the house. Getting out of the truck, they both made their way up the pathway hand in hand.
"Emma?" Darcy snorted, as they reached the door. "Who's' that? Her goldfish?"
"Darcy.." Sam snorted, as he rang the bell. "Are you gonna be a good girl?"
She scowled at him, "Don't patronize me, Sam," she scoffed, as he chuckled. "This is your friend, not mine."
The locks on the door turned, before it swung open, revealing a small child. "Sam!" the girl squealed, pushing the screen door open. "MOMMY! Sam's here with his lady!"
"This," Sam started, as the little girl hugged him. "Is Emma…Luna's daughter."
…..
"All Sam talks about is you," Luna said, after dinner. "Darcy this and Darcy that. I've never seen a man so in love with someone, like this guy here."
Darcy blushed, "Well…" she shrugged, not sure what to say.
Nursing glasses of wine and a beer, the adults settled around in the living room, while Emma was sent off to her room to change and watch a movie.
"Darcy hasn't met all our friends," Sam admitted, setting the beer down on the coffee table. "You're the first."
Luna nodded, "I hope I haven't overwhelmed you," she said, looking alarmed.
"No, no," Darcy shook her head. "You've been very kind, Luna. Thank you for inviting me over for dinner."
"You're welcome," the other woman smiled. "Emma and I don't have many visitors that are shifters. "
Darcy nodded, "But.. I'm not a shifter…" she said, glancing between her and Sam. "And I know all about shape shifting, you know? Or at least, what Sam here has told me. Shifting when there's a full moon, using animals as templates and that shape shifters aren't as out as vamps and werewolves…"
Sam nodded, "Luna knows," he said. "She just wanted to meet the woman that I apparently can't shut up about."
"Even Emma's been askin' to meet you," Luna laughed. "Sam showed us your picture, but she deemed it insufficient. Said there was no way that the "pretty lady," would marry Sam."
Darcy snickered, "Well, that's true," she teased, which made Sam pout. "Oh, come on! Remember how bitchy Alison was, when we started seeing each other? She thought you were too plain for a girl like me."
"Which is why Alison is only allowed over every ten years," he teased. "I think you hit the jackpot, if I can be honest."
Luna and Darcy shared a look, "And there goes his ego," Darcy shook her head. "I'll never hear the end of this.."
…..
When they returned home, a little after eleven, Darcy was wired. The three glasses of wine had the opposite effect on her, as her body buzzed with energy.
"Luna's really nice," Darcy said, as she stood in the doorway of the bathroom.
Sam, who was brushing his teeth, looked over at her; toothbrush scrubbing away, as she watched him. He turned and spit into the sink, rinsing his mouth out with a handful of water.
"She's also really pretty," Darcy continued, choosing her words carefully.
"But you," Sam said, as he pulled her into the bathroom. "Are sexy. Beautiful, radiant, a goddess."
Darcy nodded slowly, playing with the front of his shirt. "Hey," Sam said gently, lifting her chin up with a finger. "She's a friend, Darc. That's all. I don't have any romantic or sexual feeling towards Luna."
She looked up at him, "You are the love of my life," he continued.
"Don't butter me up, Sam Merlotte," Darcy said, despite the twinkle in her eye.
"You don't need to be buttered up," Sam replied, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Hell, all I gotta do is look at ya and your swoonin'."
Darcy rolled her eyes, "Cockiness is unbecoming of you, Sam," she drawled. "You sound like every typical man I've encountered in college."
He shook his head, "Naw, I'm a good southern boy. I know my manners and I do whatever my lady asks."
"Well, this lady is asking for you to stop talking and to get in that shower with me," Darcy said, nodding her head towards the stall. "And if you're real good and help me wash up, I'll let you play."
…..
Darcy and Sookie stood side by side, filling napkin holders and condiment bottles, long after the bar closed.
"I can't believe I missed your wedding," Sookie shook her head, setting the newly filled ketchup bottle down. "I saw the photo on Sam's desk this mornin' and nearly dropped from shock. I can't believe a whole year as gone by, when it only felt like an hour for me being where I went."
"It was a small ceremony," Darcy laughed. "I made Lafayette get himself ordained online, so he could marry us. Didn't feel right, going into a church. And with Jessica being one of my bridesmaids… well, I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable."
They chatted more about the wedding and the honeymoon, before Darcy briefly mentioned Mason.
"The good news is that we can still have children," Darcy said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Sam and I are gonna try again in the fall and hopefully, and we'll keep trying until a doctor tells us it'll never happen…"
"Well, I know you two are both determined people," Sookie nodded. "Once you set your mind on something, there ain't no stoppin' you. Sam's like that too, which all of us saw when you came back to town."
"Really?" Darcy frowned.
Sookie nodded, "Not all of us knew about your relationship before…" Sookie trailed off, before clearing her throat. "But when you came back to Bon Temps? Lord, Sam was trippin' over his boots, trying to prove to you that he was a different man. I've never seen him this happy before, in all the years I've known him. The staff is actually relieved and forever in your debt."
Darcy snorted, "I know he's a hardass, but he's also thankful for you guys," she insisted. "He has his moments with the temper.."
When she saw the look Sookie gave her, Darcy was quick to reassure her. "He can try the whole "I'm the man of the house and you're my woman," shtick, but he knows not to pull it."
"I.. I would never.." Sookie shook her head, flushing a bit.
"Hey, it's alright," Darcy said, placing her hand on the blonde's shoulders. "If Sam were to ever lay a hand on me that wasn't consensual, I give ya'll the consent to beat the shit out of him."
They both giggled, "I don't think we'd have to do a thing," Sookie said.
Darcy nodded, "That's true," she admitted. "Though, I could never harm a greying hair on his head."
"Are you talkin' 'bout me?" Sam asked, coming out from the back. "I heard "greying hair," so I'm assumin' that's a yes?"
"You wish," Darcy snorted, as he made his way behind the bar. "Do you think I spend every waking moment, talkin' about you?"
Sam opened the till, "It would be a shame if you didn't," he shrugged, taking out the drawer. "I thought I was one of the most important people in your life?"
Darcy smiled sweetly at him, "You are," she said, leaning over to kiss him. "But that doesn't mean I have to talk about you all the time.'
"See how she wounds me, Sookie," Sam shook his head, as Darcy laughed. "Unbelievable!"
"How about you hurry up and count the till, so we can all go home?" Darcy said, nudging him with her foot. "We have to be up early tomorrow so we can go shopping. And Sookie here, is probably exhausted from runnin' around all night."
Sam rolled his eyes, "You just want to go with me, so you can get your fancy cup of coffee at that new Starbucks," he said.
"They opened a Starbucks?" Sookie asked, surprised.
"Across the street from the Wal-Mart in Shreveport," Darcy nodded. "Haven't been to one of those since I left New York."
Her husband chuckled, "She's prayin that one will open up here in town," he said, heading towards the back. "I think she's written to the Mayor too!"
Darcy scowled, "You're sleepin' on the couch tonight, Sam!" she yelled, as he disappeared into his office. "Men, I tell ya."
