Facing a Recent Past.

Lana got closer to Jill and sat on the bench. She looked up, still panting before looking at Jill and continue talking.

"Well ... I found out that Leon disappeared in his house maybe two days after he talked to your mom. You know I only trust two soldiers. One found that Leon was attacked by Wesker's order and the other believes one of the men in the prison may be him."

"Can it be possible?"

"Because neither of these soldiers personally participated in his arrest, so they had to try to figure everything out discreetly."

"I understand "Jill sighed. "And how can we confirm that Leon is among the prisoners?"

"Tonight you can check. I can easily take you out of your room to a walk outdoors. One of those soldiers who will be in prison can facilitate your entry. You can look for him cell by cell."

"Isn't it risky for you, Lana?"

"If you go fast and do not allow anyone to see you, no ... Wesker is not here, it won't be risky for me. It's another thing that worries me..." Lana lowered her head with sadness.

Jill stared into the garden and it took her a few seconds to realize the sad look from Lana, lost in the horizon.

"Lana. I don't want to put you at risk. I'd rather think of another way to ..."

"It's not the problem, ma'am .."

"Jill..."

"Sorry ... it is not that, Jill ..." Lana lowered her shoulders dejectedly "I have had a very sad dream ... Sad because I think it will be my end."

"How so?" Jill asked worriedly.

"I think I dreamed of my death ... I do not believe that there can be a different end for anyone working for Wesker."

"But tell me, Lana." Jill nodded. "Tell me."

Lana rubbed her eyes before looking to the sky once more. She had teary eyes, but she seemed to be trying to stop the tears from flowing.

"I dreamed of Gerard, one of the soldiers I told you about, he entered the house carrying a sword. When Wesker saw him and tried to attack him he pushed me and I fell from the window, but then I was a pigeon flying away. Suddenly I found myself lying on a green grass with a white dress and holding flowers in my hands. I could not move my hands, I felt trapped. Maybe my funeral."

Jill put her hand in her mouth trying to hold back the laughter, but she failed. Lana watched Jill laughing totally confused.

"Forgive me, Lana." Jill held the laughter but kept smiling "Your dream is very clear and it is totally the opposite of what you think."

"How's that?"

Jill shook her head, still smiling to Lana. The ingenuity and simplicity of Lana was what Jill liked the most. That made her an easy person to live with and enjoyable. Approximately eight months living with Lana and they were no longer servant and prisoner, they were friends.

Lana protected Jill from all questioning and jealousy from Excella. Whenever the governor's cousin showed interest in knowing about Jill, Lana assured Excella that Jill was just a prisoner, and that Wesker had no love interests for her, because once the baby was born he would steal the baby and set her free. Thanks to that attitude from Lana, Excella had never been a problem for Jill, although she still kept watching her sometimes.

Jill, meanwhile, also protected Lana the way she could. Although Wesker had talked to Jill very little during the time she was there, Jill always tried to show obedience to Lana in front of him and to prove that Lana was extremely loyal to him.

After that friendship and affection were born between the two, Jill knew she could not go and leave Lana behind. She couldn't save her baby, her own life and leave behind the person responsible for the few good moments she had in that house. Jill didn't know how yet, but she knew she would save her. And that was exactly what made Jill laugh, Lana's dream had shown that Jill would not save Lana, because someone would do that before her.

"Do you love this soldier, Lana?"

"How so?" Lana opened her frightened eyes, clearly showing she had not expected that question from Jill.

"Lana" Jill once again held the laughter "You did not see your death, you saw your wedding."

Lana jumped back, almost falling off the bench. Jill reached out and grabbed her by her arm. When Lana was able to sit again the two burst into a fit of laughter. Some soldiers looked up at distance to understand from where those sharp laughter were coming, but they ignored them and the two continued laughing like two naughty children.

"You love him, don't you?" Jill asked as she stopped laughing.

"Wow, I was so sad to die that I almost died of grief" Lana wiped two tears that ran down her face and regained the air before answering the question from Jill "I think so, he is very charming."

"Oh silly!" Jill smirked "When you turn into a pigeon and fly out of window that means he will set you free, and then the white dress and flowers, you know, right?"

"Oh!" Lana put her hand to her mouth surprise "But when I'm laying my hands are tied, as if I were dead or handcuffed."

"Ah Lana! And have you seen any kind of marriage that doesn't feel like handcuff?" Jill said in a funny tone and the two began to laugh again.

Jill was not only laughing for her joke, but she smiled with her soul to know that Lana would have a better future, away from Wesker and all that dark place. That was the end that Jill wished for all those servants who worked at the place. Jill knew that not everyone would have a happy life , since even her own fate was uncertain and that let her afraid. But Jill did not allow herself to think about it, for now she wanted to laugh and think about what awaited Lana. Because that dear friend deserved that.

Deborah approached the prison bars and tried to look through them, She could only see part of the corridor on her right and on her left. She saw other cells, but could not see exactly where they had taken Piers to.

"What are you doing?" Helena whispered as she approached Deborah.

"I'm trying to speak to Piers." Deborah said, without looking back.

"But and the soldiers.?"

"I heard them going away." Deborah said "Wait."

Deborah's face were positioned between two bars and she began to say:

"Piers? Piers?"

A few seconds later Deborah heard some noise from the cell on her left.

"Piers?"

"Deborah? How are you doing?"

Deborah squeezed herself into the bars trying to see the boy, but she could not. Anyway she was happy.

"Fine ... What happened? Why you here, Piers?"

"Oh, I screwed up."

"Why?"

"Because my brother asked me a few days to organize a plan to rescue you, but I did not wait. I was so anxious to see you all these months I thought I was capable to do it by myself, but I was captured."

"Piers ..." She sounded sorry.

"Yes, I know ... But calm down, I'll think of a way to get us out of here."

"Okay, I know, but it only matters you are alright."

"I missed you, Deborah."

"I missed you so much, Piers."

Deborah could see a hand holding a bar and although she could not see him completely she was relieved. Something told her to trust and wait.

Lana was holding Jill's hand as they went down the stairs to the basement. Jill could not see very much about the place, besides being a very dark place, Jill wore a hooded cloak.

When Lana pulled Jill by the hand she understood that she should stop and wait. After a few words exchanged with Lana, Gerard the soldier opened the door of the jail.

"Do not leave the prisoners recognize you" Lana whispered to Jill giving her the lamp.

Jill nodded and went inside. When the door was closed behind her and Jill saw the huge hallway in front of her, she felt nauseous.

She knew it was not because of the baby she almost never felt that way during pregnancy. The nausea came because of that environment. Dark, wet and heavy. Jill felt that she should not stay there too long.

Jill passed by the cells with the lamp. Some prisoners turned their head to her curiously, others were still sleeping. Jill went through a cell where she believed she had seen Helena and Deborah sleeping, some steps forward in the cell on the other side she saw a guy sleeping who looked familiar to her. Down the hall, Jill turned to the left to the last cells, in the second cell when in that corridor she saw a tall young man sitting with straight dark blond hair over his face.

"Leon?" Jill whispered.

When the guy raised his head and looked at her she could confirm it was Leon. She pulled the hood a bit, allowing him to see her face.

" Jill?" Leon stood up and approached her, trying to hold her hand.

"I'll take you out of here."

"Jill, it was supposed to be the opposite. I needed to set you free. I don't know how they discovered it."

"Wesker has several ways of finding out things. Either he discovered that by dream or he deduced that you would help me. But that does not matter, let's make an escape plan and we will set you free tomorrow."

"Yes, let's escape, Jill. Let's raise our baby together."

At that moment Jill felt breathless. When Leon put his hand through the bars and touched her belly, Jill felt her head spin and eyes get teary. She did not want to hurt Leon, he was too special to her.

"Leon ... I would never deceive you ..."

"I know, Jill. Your mother told me ... But it doesn't matter if that baby is not mine. I'll raise it as my own and I will make you both happy if you give me the chance."

At these words Jill did not know what to say, she just took Leon's hand that touched her belly and brought it to her face. Jill kissed Leon's hand in admiration and respect. Despite being separated from him and what she had done to him during the mission, there he was trying to help her again. She would be eternally grateful to him for so much care and affection.

"I need to go now, but be sure that I will release you. It's the least I can do for such a honorable man like you."

Leon smiled at her words and Jill kissed his hand again, before pulling the hood back to her face and walking back to the first hallway.

When Jill was approaching the corner she heard noises in the hallway and stopped where she was, praying that they were not going to where she was.

She could hear some guards talking, but she did not understand what they were saying. The sound was a bit closer, but luckily it stopped before they reached where she was. Jill heard the noise of a cell being opened.

"Come on, you bastard. Your brother gave his neck for yours. The governor will be happy." A soldier said.

Jill heard the cell being closed while a guy was screaming down the hall, being led by guards. Jill could not see anything but she felt penalized by the boy.

After waiting for the silence to return, Jill decided to go back to the first hallway. In this hallway she was passing by the cells when she saw a large hand holding one of the bars. Jill could not contain her curiosity, she lifted the lantern so she could see the face of that prisoner.

"Chris?" She asked feeling her heart beating wildly.
