Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who.
AN: This chapter also follows on from the last one a little, through a conversation that Amy and River have.
"Tell the Ponds I said Hello" said The Doctor, as River prepared to leave for another visit. He didn't need to ask her to say hello to Anthony for him anymore. He telepathically spoke to his son quite often nowadays, whenever he had a few moments to himself, and Anthony's mind wasn't too occupied with other Three-year old things.
"I will" River smiled.
"Tell them Hi from me, too" Clara added. She, at least this form of her, had never met Amy or Rory, but she'd heard enough about them by now that they almost felt like old friends.
"Done."
"And tell them all that.."
"You love them" River cut off her Husband's words with a kiss. "I know, Sweetie. Always do."
"Rivvy!" cried Anthony excitedly as soon as Amy opened the door, "Mummy says we're gonna go to the Park later!"
"That sounds fun" River smiled, scooping him up.
"You coming?"
"Of course" River laughed, ruffling his hair. "I came to spend a day with you. I go wherever you go. Maybe you should go get ready, hmm?" He nodded eagerly, dashing off as soon as she set him down. "Daddy working Today?" River asked, turning to Amy.
"For a few more hours" Amy nodded. "That's kind of why we're going to the Park, so Anthony can burn some of his excess energy. When Rory's home in the Afternoon, they run it out in the Backyard. He goes bouncing off the walls if he doesn't. A bit of the Time-Lord coming out in him, I think."
"Seems so" River chuckled. "It's easy to mistake The Doctor for a three-year old sometimes."
Not too much later, Amy and River sat on a bench in the Park, watching Anthony play. Mary Brown was there with her sons too, sitting on another bench a short distance away. Amy noticed her shooting curious glances in their direction, probably wondering who River was. Well, she could keep on wondering, because it was none of her business. Amy was polite on the occasions when she and Mary did speak, but mostly, she no longer bothered with the people that just saw her Family as something to gossip about.
What Amy was bothered with was the way River fidgeted in her seat every few minutes, something obviously on her mind.
"Hey" Amy nudged her gently. "Whatcha thinking about?"
"I was just.." River shook her head. "Nothing. It's nothing."
"River.."
"Really, don't worry about it, it.."
"Melody" said Amy sternly. "Talk to me."
River sighed. Her Mother had pulled out the 'Melody' card. Now she had to talk.
"I was just.." She began, keeping one eye on Anthony, "Remember my last visit, when I showed you all my Pregnant memories, until we went a little, uh, of course.."
"I do" Amy nodded.
"Well, that wasn't the last time you saw me.. Real me, not flesh me" River continued. "I know it wasn't, because I remember the story you told me about Daddy. But I was thinking, it would have been better for Kovarian's plan if she'd just taken off with me right away.. So why didn't she?"
"Oh" Amy grinned proudly. "That was your first rebellion."
"Really?" River raised an eyebrow. "How? Even I didn't think I got started that young."
"You wouldn't drink from the bottle" Amy smiled. "They couldn't take you away from me until you did. And you held off for a pretty long time, stubborn little thing. So yes, you made your first act of rebellion at about an hour old.. And you never stopped."
"I wasn't that bad.."
"Oh no?" Amy frowned. "You ran away.."
"From the people who kidnapped me as a baby" said River dryly. "I don't think I really did anything wrong there."
"Okay, I'll give you that one" said Amy. "Hmm.. You were always getting into trouble at school."
"So were you!"
"Right.. Well, you got pretty wild at some of the Parties we went to."
"Again, so did you" River pointed out with a smirk. "And, Time-Lord metabolism. More often than not, I was only acting wasted. You, Mother, were actually off your face drunk."
"Well, I, uh.." Amy stammered, blushing. A lot of her teenage antics did seem a lot more embarrassing now that she knew she'd shared them with her daughter. "You stole a Bus!"
River frowned, finally silenced.
"Alright, I admit it, maybe I was a rebel. I've got no excuse for the bus thing, except that I was bored."
"Maybe? You were definitely a rebel" Amy laughed, waving at Anthony as he climbed the ladder up to the slide. "But you were our rebel, and we loved you. Good thing, really since some of your greatest rebellions against the Silence involved loving people you weren't supposed to."
"Mmhm. Letting me know you and Daddy was the biggest flaw in the plan, I think" River grinned. "And The Doctor, well, that was just meant to be. I can't imagine falling in love with anyone else."
"He makes you happy then?"
"Yes, he does" River smiled. "It's different, now we've had Anthony. He's not as afraid to tell me he loves me."
"That's good" Amy replied. "'Cause God knows I love him, but if that Raggedy Man hurt you, I'd kill him, however many times it took."
"I don't think you need to worry about that, but thank you."
Anthony waved again, now standing at the top of the slide. Amy and River both waved back, smiling, but were helpless to stop what happened next.
Thomas Brown, Mary's oldest son at eight, climbed up behind him, and, unwilling to wait his turn, shoved Anthony aside, causing him to lose his balance and fall. Anthony hit his mouth on the edge of the slide in his last attempt to hold on, but missed, plummeting to the ground.
Then, he screamed.
AN: Sorry to leave it on such a horrible cliffhanger, but, well, it had to happen sometime, right? I promise the next chap will be up soon.
