Chapter XXIV: Sacrifices Will be Made...
Blaze's P.O.V:
"V-Vance..." I managed to say. It's been a while since I have seen him. Especially like this. He looked at me.
"Blaze... how long has it been...?" Vance asked me, his voice sounding more sinister than his calm, kind voice. I clenched my fist.
"A pretty long time, V-sama." I replied. He chuckled.
"Are you still going to call me by that name? C'mon, Blaze. I thought you were better than this." he said, smiling evilly. I avoided eye contact from him, feeling weak against his stare on me.
"Where are the girls?!" Red asked angrily. Vance turned his attention towards him.
"Not telling," Vance replied. He turned towards me again. "Now, are you going to fight me now or what?" I looked back up at him, creating my fire sword in an instant.
"Just one more thing before we do," I said. Vance groaned, but looked at me in a way for me to continue.
"Your promise to me, Aqua, and Forrest. Do you remember what you said? You will come back to us once you are freed from the darkness," I told him, my voice getting louder. Vance frowned.
"So what? That was years ago, Blaze, when you were ten years old. Do you think it makes a difference now?" he asked. I nodded my head, getting ready to attack him.
"It does. And I'll make sure that the darkness that took the real Vance away will die this time!" I yelled. Vance chuckled, the evilness inside springing up into his voice.
"Perfect. I'll gladly rip all of your guts into shreds..." Vance said, creating his lightning sword. Before I could take a single step, though, Red came rushing towards him with his sword. Vance smirked, getting ready to strike. They clashed swords immediately, yellow sparks flying everywhere. They kept on going, sword against sword, and not losing contact with each clash. Lyn look over at Silver, giving him a nod. Silver nodded back, disappearing from our sights. As Red and Vance were fighting, I decided to wait for his weak spot to show up, so I carefully kept my eye on Vance's movements.
"Blaze," Lyn called to me. I looked at her as she clenched her fists. "I bet you want me to stay away from this fight, am I wrong? Because you don't want the same mistake to happen again," Lyn said, still not looking at me. She kept her eyes on Red and Vance.
"You can fight, right? I mean, you still have that sword Treble gave you, don't you?" I asked her, feeling a bit worried. She shook her head, finally turning her head and looking at me.
"I returned it. I think it's time they found out, Blaze. I'm tired of lying and playing pretend," Lyn told me. "Even if it's in front of Red." She looked back at the two fighting.
"Hey asshole! You remember me, right?" Lyn yelled at him. The two boys stopped fighting, turning around to face Lyn. Vance took this opportunity of distraction to kick Red in the gut, causing him to fall and roll onto the floor. Lyn's eyes widened, but she created her black sword anyways with a swift swipe of her hand. Vance glared daggers at Lyn.
"Ah, the girl who stopped my marvelous plans. It seems you got a brand new sword as well," Vance said. Lyn gritted her teeth.
"Oh shut up will you!" she exclaimed at him. She lowered her sword, causing Vance to raise an eyebrow.
"Hm? And you're not going to attack me? Why not?" he asked. Red looked up, eyes widening when he saw Lyn's new sword.
"Lyn, what's going on?!" he asked her, struggling to get up. Lyn shook her head.
"Don't get up and let me explain, Red," she said, her eyes flashing a bright red color. And it was pretty noticeable, considering that her blood red eyes were pretty dark on their own. Red stopped, wondering what his sister was trying to explain. She looked back at Vance.
"Leave everyone alone. Let the girls out. And quit all of this nonsense. I'm the person you want." Lyn said boldly, taking a huge step forward. Vance chuckled, placing his hand on his hip.
"I'm all ears," he said. "Why should I release my hostages when they could be the props who can help me play this puppet show easily?" Lyn glanced at Red, smiling sadly at him. Red's face clearly told us that he was still very confused.
"Promise me you kill me after this," Lyn said to Red, staring at Vance straight in the eye. "There is one, solid reason why... and you might be quite surprised..."
"I'm... the Dark Flame."
Platinum's P.O.V:
Yellow was now on the ground, unconscious and barely breathing. Her neck was swelling and her head must be bleeding. The guard looked at me, glaring.
"You see what you did?!" he exclaimed. I felt tears roll down my face like a running river as I braced myself for his strike.
"You! Why the hell are you about to attack our precious hostages?!" a sharp male tone called. We both turned around, spotting two guards with black hoods standing near the doorway. They both marched in, staring sharply at the guard who was about to hit me.
"Leave, now! We'll deal with her!" the one on the right ordered, his voice sounding bossy but very familiar. The guard's body tensed up, but nodding, quickly walking out of the room. The two guards then walked inside the cell looking at Yellow. The slightly taller guard kneeled down to get a better look at her.
"Don't you dare touch her!" I yelled. The other one looked at me, removing his hood. My eyes widened, and filled with tears of happiness when I saw who it was. My anger easily washed away as I managed to open my mouth to speak.
"D-Diamond... i-is that r-really you...?!" I asked, barely managing to say those words. Diamond smiled at me, pulling me into an embrace.
"It's me. It's really me, Missy. I'm sorry for being late..." he muttered. I only hugged in back tightly, drenching the back of his shirt with my tears.
"I-I still would have w-waited for you..." I replied, smiling. The other guard removed his hood, revealing his distinct blond hairstyle, carrying Yellow on his back.
"C'mon, Missy. Let's get out of here before they actually find us," Pearl said. Diamond nodded, letting go of me and frowning.
"That's right. We need to get out of here fast, before the guards catch you, Yellow, and Pearl escaping," Diamond said. "I'll distract them while you and Pearl take care of Yellow and get yourselves out of here," Diamond explained.
"But what about you? You'll come out with us too, right?" I asked, worried about Diamond's safety. Diamond smiled, nodding.
"I'll meet up with you guys as soon as I can," Diamond pulled something out of his pocket, placing it carefully into my hand. "This is a map of the whole castle. Find the north back entrance and escape from there. Pearl will lead the way after that," he said. Pearl nodded, grabbing my hand.
"There's really not a lot of time we got on our hands, Missy. We have many of our friends struggling to live, but we all know that they did it for the purpose of getting you out of here. Especially one you're totally not going to believe..." Pearl said, his voice trailing off. He shook his head, tightening the grip on my hand as Diamond put his hood back on.
"Follow my path and pretend to be injured," Diamond said to me. Pearl did the same as Diamond, pulling that large hood over his head. I noticed a pretty long cut along Pearl's cheek that was crusted with dried blood. When I reached my hand out to touch it, Pearl looked at me and shook his head.
"I'm okay. Get ready," he said. All I had to do was look a the ground the whole time, or at least, that's what Pearl told me to do. Either way, I still felt bad about it. Once we left the prison room, a bunch of guards came in front of Diamond.
"Hey! Where the hell do you think you're going with our hostages?" one of them shouted. I glanced up to look at Diamond's face. Usually in these kinds of situations, his face would have been sweating bullets, but now, it looked so calm yet serious.
"I'm taking them back to the lair. One try and no answers aren't good enough for the Dragon Master to be please with. Besides, the other soldier who tried to succeed failed his duties, therefore, I will be taking over the position." Diamond stated boldly. A guard eyed Yellow's body that was laying limply against Pearl's back.
"What about the blondie? It doesn't look like she can do anything in that state," they said. Diamond let out a frustrated sigh, making me wonder if he was either getting tired of these guys or if he's just doing that for the whole act.
"She got knocked out by that idiot of a guard I talked about earlier. But, she is good friends with the other lady over here, so we can use her as a sacrifice if she doesn't obey our orders," Diamond replied. The crowd looked at each other, shrugging their shoulders and whispering to each other. Pearl cleared his throat, catching everyone's attention.
"Now then, I advise all of you to get your butts back to work! This is our job, so continue yours, got it?!" Pearl exclaimed, the intimidation in his voice fake, but loud and scary enough to make the group scatter hastily and nervously. Diamond sighed again, but it sounded like he was relieved, as he looked at me.
"I apologize, Missy. I never thought you would have to hear me bark like that," he said. I shook my head as he continued his sayings. "But in any case, you three need to get out of here now. I promise to meet up as soon as I possibly can." While no one was looking, he pulled me into a quick hug. I got surprised at first, but the warmth from his body made me feel a little better.
"I promise..." he muttered, letting go of me. I frowned, but put my head back down as I followed Pearl's lead while Diamond walked in the other direction.
"Missy, don't worry about Diamond," Pearl whispered to me. "He's a big kid now. He knows what he's doing. If I can trust him, I think you can trust him even more. You didn't choose a bunch of weaklings for servants, did you?" My eyes widened when he said that.
"I didn't..." I couldn't finish what I was going to say because my smile closed my mouth. The memories...
After a couple of minutes passed, I silently checked the map. Based off our surroundings, we were close to reaching the exit.
"We're so close..." I mumbled to myself. Just then, Pearl stopped walking, causing me to almost bump into him. I looked up, wondering what was going on.
But then I saw it.
"Diamond!" Diamond was struggling in the grasp of two guards while about ten more stood behind them. His face was dirty and a little it bruised.
"Going the lair again my ass, dimwit," the one on the right said. Pearl grit his teeth, pulling out his spear.
"Leave him alone, will you?!" he shouted. The guard laughed.
"Heh, you're so called scary voice isn't going to help you this time, pal." he said, pulling out a sword and placing it in front of Diamond's neck. "Now then, release the hostages, leave this castle, and we won't kill your friend nor tell our boss that you came in here with no warnings." I felt my legs starting to get wobbly as I glanced up a Pearl, who's expression told me that he had no idea what to do either.
"Stop..." Yellow muttered unconsciously. I looked her, my eyes widened in shock.
"Yellow-!" Yellow raised her arm up, her hand out towards the crowd of guards.
"Stop..." she repeated. A ball of light appeared in her hand and it grew larger and larger. Once she released it, her arm fell back down and she didn't speak. The ball of light created a distraction and blinded the guards. Pearl took this time to hand over Yellow to me and run towards the guards, releasing their grip on Diamond's body. He grabbed his arm and began sprinting, and I followed in suit.
"Let's hurry up and find that damn exit already!" Pearl called to us. I nodded, carrying Yellow on my back and running as fast and as long as I possibly could. We then came to a halt, as more guards came our way. Pearl groaned, pushing Diamond and me away from the scene in another hall.
"You two go on ahead! I'll handle these guys!" he commanded. Diamond held my hand, giving Pearl a small nod. Pearl shot a glance at me, smiling.
"I'll be with you guys soon, promise," he whispered, before turning his attention back to the swarm and started attacking. Diamond dragged me away from the scene, running towards the direction the exit was in.
Red's P.O.V:
"I'm... the Dark Flame."
Silence filled the room as Lyn said those four, simple words that explained everything.
Everything but my mind. Vance's laughter broke the emptiness, smirking at Lyn.
"Do you really expect me to believe that you are the one who can tame the deadly beast: the Dark Flame Dragon?" Vance questioned. Lyn nodded, her eyes flashing again.
"I am the guardian of the Dark Flame Dragon. If you don't trust my words, then would this count as evidence?" Lyn reached inside her shirt and pulled out a long, gold chained necklace with a coral pink pendant. Vance's eyes widened.
"That's..." Vance wasn't able to say the rest of his sentence, but he grinned instead. "I see. You had the core of the Coral Orb the whole time. I'm assuming you also have the curse mark?" Vance asked. Lyn nodded again.
"The more anger boiling in the guardian, the faster the curse mark seals within their body. That's what the legend says. And I'm not surprised that it's true." Vance glanced at Lyn's midnight black sword.
"And I'm guessing that's where you got your sword from? The Shadow Blade, is that correct?" Vance questioned.
"One hundred percent." Lyn replied. I got back up, but only on my knees, taking a better look at my sister. Her eyes were lit up and the necklace was glowing a bright red. Her face didn't show it, but I knew she was in pain.
"Lyn..." Blaze muttered. She then shook her head, taking this small opportunity of silence to charge at Vance. Vance noticed her quickly, clashing her sword against his. As she was doing so, she turned her head to Lyn and me.
"Run! Find the Dragon Master and get the hell out of here already!" Blaze called. Lyn stood there, wide eyed, but then nodded, rushing to my side. She helped me up and then we fled out of the room. We then stopped and hid inside a small, dark room because of all the guards outside.
"What do we do now? They'll find us sooner or later and we can't stay here for too long!" Lyn hissed at me, her tone sharp and angry. At this point, it wasn't that hard to find out where she was; her eyes illuminated and almost lit up this room. I could only make out her face, but it was stern looking.
"I don't know! I do know something though," I replied. "The faster we find the Dragon Master, the faster we get this over with and save Blaze and Silver from dying in that room with Vance." Suddenly, we heard voices from outside the door.
"Hey, did you hear noises from inside here?" one asked.
"I don't know, but we should check." the other one replied. Lyn covered my mouth and hers while shutting her eyes, pulling me down underneath a wide table to hide. Once the door opened, we could only see the guard feet walking around the room.
"I guess you were just hearing things again, huh?"
"I swear I heard something!"
"Whatever, let's just get back to work," Once the door closed, Lyn sighed in relief, opening her eyes and helping me up from under the table.
"That was close..." Lyn muttered.
"We still have to find a way to get out of here, y'know." I told her. She glared.
"I know that, dumbbutt." she replied. She pointed at the wall behind us. "There should be a way we can break through there and then escape from another room."
"What?! Are you crazy? Breaking down things are just going to make us more noticeable!" I yelled, but in whisper level. She rolled her eyes.
"You have any better ideas?"
"No, but if I were to think of some, it wouldn't involve smashing down a wall." I replied bluntly. Lyn sighed.
"Fine," She walked over to the door and kicked it open, creating her Shadow Blade again. "Let's do it this way." My mouth fell.
"What the hell are you doing now?!" I exclaimed. She shook her head and looked around.
"Just follow my lead, alright?" Lyn replied. I sighed, following her out the door. The moment we got out, we were automatically noticed.
"Hey! Who are you guys?" one asked. Lyn smirked.
"We don't want to pick a fight, unless you guys are okay with dying today," she threatened. Some of the guards that looked fairly young shook, while the others glared at my sister.
"What was that?!" he screamed, rushing towards Lyn with a battle ax in hand. Taking a step back, she used her non-weapon holding hand to shoot a dark fire ball straight at his chest. The flames spread, slowly consuming and burning his flesh. As he yelled in agony and pain, Lyn looked at the other guards, causing them to tremble.
"Who's next?" she asked darkly, cracking her knuckles. No one replied, satisfying her. "That's what I thought," Lyn then took hold of my arm, dashing down the halls.
"Where are we going?" I questioned, the heat omitting from her palm felt like it was burning my hand.
"I have no idea! But I'm hoping to find an exit somewhere!"
"What?! You mean you're just planning on running around to find somewhere to leave?"
"Well, not necessarily! We do still have to look for the Dragon Master!" she retorted. A picture of Yellow flashed in my mind, causing me to unintentionally grip Lyn's hand tighter. She glanced at me, curious.
"What's wrong?" she asked, slowing down. I shook my head.
"Nothing. Let's keep going," I replied quickly. Lyn just nodded, turning to her left. I closed my eyes.
"Wait for me a little longer, Yellow... please... I promise to get you out of here soon... and then tell you how I really feel..."
Blaze's P.O.V:
I fell to the ground for the seventh time already, feeling my energy slowly draining away from my body. Vance snickered, walking towards me with his Lightning Sword in hand.
"Oh Blaze... when will you learn that it's time to give up?" he asked. I tried to get up, but to no avail. I looked up, seeing him still walking. That's when I noticed something shining across the ground.
"Silver..." I thought. I laughed, causing Vance to become confused.
"You know... you're right. I should just give up," I said. Pushing my hair out my face, I turned to Vance with a confident grin. "But not so easily." Vance was sill confused, but then realized his mistake when he looked down.
He already crossed the line.
The trap we walked into exploded the floor, making him hit the wall forcefully. As soon as that happened, a barrage of knives came towards his way. He was lucky to dodge the majority of them, but a lot cut and pierced his body, and some even pinned him to the wall. A shadowy figure appeared next to me, a knife spinning on his finger.
"That took way longer than expected," Silver commented. He then smirked. "But at least the preparation paid off." I managed to get up this time, walking over to Vance with my Flame Blade in my hand and pointed the fiery sword at his neck. Taking closer inspection on his body, the knives did a lot of damage to him than I thought. It stabbed through his chest and some areas of his arms, while there were numerous bleeding cuts on his legs, face, and hands.
"I thought I made this clear before we even started this fight, Vance," I stated. "I'll make sure that the darkness that took the real Vance away will die this time. Sadly, the only way of doing that is to end your life." Vance chuckled, closing his eyes.
"My time has finally come, huh..." He looked up at me, smiling sincerely. This made my eyes widen and start to water; it's been so long since I've seen that smile.
"I'm at least glad that I die by your hands, Blaze... tell Forrest and Aqua that I'll miss them both..." Vance said. The tears fell down from my eyes as I gripped the handle of my Flame Blade tighter.
"V-sama..." I muttered, raising my sword up. "I-I'm so sorry..."
"STOP!"
?'s P.O.V:
Flashback...
"Hey, you!" I called. The kid with dark brown hair covering the left side of his face looked up at me with hate.
"What the hell do you want from me?" he growled. He's been pissed at me ever since we kidnapped him from Demon Mountain and almost killed his friends. I mean, I would understand the fact that he's mad, but for how much longer do I have to endure that glare? I placed my hands on my hips, pointing a finger at him.
"You listen to my orders from now on! Now that you're at a qualified age to be apart of a member group, Boss has recruited you to be apart of mine! SO whether you like it or not, you're friends are gone and you're stuck with me!" I informed. He just rolled his eyes.
"I don't care what you have to say, old man."
"What was that?!" I shouted. He looked up at me, glaring.
"I'll never go back on my word." he stated boldly. My eyes widened.
"I promised them I would come back for them. That's a promise I'm willing to stick with. If darkness were to possess the insides of my body and turn me into a psychopathic monster like you and the rest of this organization, then I hope to never let you or myself lay a hand on them and hurt them, no matter what." he said. I chuckled.
"You got a long way to go kid," I replied. "Life isn't an easy road. You have to be willing to sacrifice the things you love for your own sake." He looked up.
"Then I'll crush those thoughts you believe and make you learn that everything is here for a reason," he then said. "Listen, I don't care about you or anyone else here. But to know that you would get rid of the people and things that make you happy just so that you can continue living is pointless. What would e your drive to move on in life? What would the lives of those you sacrificed do, knowing that the person they cared for destroyed them?"
Never before has someone said those words to me. The sentences flew out of his mouth smoothly, never hesitating. And it touched my heart a little; would I really give up on everything to continue my path?
"Alright, alright then. I get it, okay? But either way, starting today, we're partners, got it?" I asked. He nodded, grinning.
"Got it, old man." My face became hot with embarrassment as he began to laugh. This was actually the first time I've ever seen him really happy before. And although his rude comment made me mad, it caused me to smile for some reason.
"Will you quit calling me that?" I asked.
"I'm not ten years old, idiot," he replied, his laughter abruptly stopping as he talked in his usual angry tone. "I'm sixteen now. I know when to stop." I waved a hand at him.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let's just get a move on, alright?"
"Fine."
"..."
"Old man."
"Why you!"
Present...
Oh how scorching hot it felt when it went through my body. It stung like hell, but that didn't stop me from intercepting that attack.
The blood fell. My consciousness was fading away. Life literally flashed before my eyes. But I didn't lose my stance.
"V-Vance..." I managed to say, choking on the blood spilling from my mouth. The red liquid splattered on the floor, and some got on the attacker's face as well. I weakly smiled, letting out a small laugh.
"I-I remember the days... when w-we would fight non-stop... when we would accuse each o-other..."
I started breathing heavily. Everything was turning black.
"You were... like a... brother... t-to me..." I said. I turned around to face Vance, who's dark gray eyes were widened and flooding with tears, finally showing emotions of sadness and surprise.
"T-Thank you... for teaching me what it's like... t-to do something... for the ones you really c-care for..."
I felt sleepy. My eyes finally closed.
"I'm sorry, Vance. Looks like my story ends here."
Vance's P.O.V:
What just happened? Everything just came and went, but I still have no idea what happened. I felt like th air in my lungs disappeared and I couldn't breathe. The figure in front of me fell with a loud thud. My legs were trembling. The wounds on my body hurt, but the truth of what just happened hurt more.
"I..." I said, but that was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I saw that red haired imbecile walk towards me, standing next to Blaze who's expression was still in shock.
"That was unexpected," he said. He looked at me, those piercing silver eyes of his staring me down. "I didn't know his life would end like that. He must've done it for a certain purpose." I clenched my fist, grabbing the knives that held me close to the wall away and got up. I looked at Blaze straight in the eye, creating my Lightning Sword again.
"Blaze. Let's finish this, right here, right now." I stated. But to my surprise, she shook her head.
"No. I-I can't..." she replied. Anger boiled inside me.
"Why not?!" I exclaimed. "Didn't you say that you would kill me earlier?! To erase the darkness in my soul?! Then go ahead! I'm allowing you to kill me! Just do it!" I yelled at her. Tears fell down from her face.
"Damn it... that idiot's death really made me mad... but how come...?" I thought, frustrated.
"I said I can't you moron!" Blaze cried. I gritted my teeth.
"Why the hell not?" I asked, my rage lowering its bars a little. She looked at the floor.
"Because... because..." she repeated that word, unable to search for the rest of them to complete her statement.
"Just say it already!"
"I can't kill you because I love you, goddamnit!" Blaze finally said. My eyes widened.
"...What?"
"You heard me! All those days we spent together, the memories of them flew through my mind and I remembered how much joy it brought me! When you left, you swore to come back, and I promised to save you in case you don't. When I heard from Silver and Alto about the passwords to open the doors, I was surprised to know that you favored me the most, yet I was also so glad. That was because I love you, Vance!" she exclaimed. "I didn't care that you turned into hell's slave! I didn't care that you became such an arrogant asshole! All that mattered to me was that you were safe!"
"Blaze..." Silver muttered, but he smiled. "I understand you."
"Blaze, I-"
"Just shut up!" Blaze said. She stared into my eyes, her pretty orange eyes drenched in tears. "You wanted a fight, didn't you? Like you said, we're going to end it here. You're right; I did want to kill you to destroy your dark side. And I know how," Blaze walked over to me, grabbing my Lightning Sword out of my hand and pointing it at my neck again.
"This is the only way. I'm sorry..." I shook my head.
"It's fine. I deserve to die from all of the mistakes I've made..."
"Okay, seriously you guys, will you both shut up already?" We both turned our attention to Silver, who was tapping his foot impatiently with arms crossed.
"And you said Platinum and Yellow were cliché. Just look at what's going on right now." Silver said. (A/N: ...Yup.)
"I-"
Silver walked over to me and slapped me across the face. I glared at him.
"What was that for?!"
"I just said, shut up," he replied. Silver turned to Blaze.
"If you really don't want to kill him, then don't. It understandable why, and Vance can change." Silver explained. Blaze dropped the Lightning Sword and pulled me into a hug, crying on my back.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." she mumbled. I was shaken up at first, glancing at the redhead for advice. All he did was chuckle, nodding his head. I smiled, embracing Blaze back.
"It's okay."
Lyn's P.O.V:
"Well shit."
Red and my current situation was against a bunch of random guards that somehow followed us while we were trying to escape, blocking any kind of exit we could think of. As much as I wanted to activate my powers to beat the shit out of these guys, there wasn't enough hatred within me anymore, and I was pretty tired from all of the running we did earlier. Red sighed.
"Got any plans this time, genius?" he whispered. I glared in his direction.
"Shut up." I replied. I looked for possible exits, but didn't find any. And then it hit me.
"Hey, I got an idea," I told Red. He glanced at me.
"What is it?"
"Plan B: Breaking walls." With a swift kick, I broke away the wall to my left, causing Red's mouth to drop in awe.
"What the- why?!" he complained. I shook my head.
"C'mon, before we get into more trouble!" I yelled, grabbing his arm and beginning our running spree again.
