Momiji POV

The two brothers met. To an observers eye, it seemed as if they just stood there. A genjutsu battle. Of course; Uchihas were pro at genjutsu, especially those who mastered the use of their sharingan.

I closed my eyes and put my hand on Mistleaf. Slowly, my brain started to see some of the battle that she saw.

Due to her unquie vision, she could slightly map out one's chakra. I had taught Mistleaf how to use her powers, and she had become a fine medical ninja. Her sight allowed her to see the chakra nature, how the chakra was molded, weaknesses, strengths. And now finally, she could partially gauge the time a dying person had life.

Genjutsu was a power that disrupted the flow of chakra, which, at the same time, messed up the senses.

By seeing the chakra, she could tell one was in a genjutsu, and sometimes, what the genjutsu was about.

It was rather useful for spying on people who communicated through genjutsu.

The same thing happened twice; Sasuke attacked Itachi, discovered it was fake, only to attack another fake Itachi. He finally ended up with the correct one.

The genjutsu ended, but I stayed with Mistleaf. Genjutsu was sure to pop up again.

Sure enough, a bit later, Itachi had Sasuke enter another genjutsu. This time, it was

...a history lesson.

It covered Madara and his younger brother, Izuna. How they activated Mangekyō Sharingan, how Madara eventually killed Izuna for his eyes.

Then, Itachi changed. His voice begame more excited, desperate. It lost the usually cool tone it had.

The genjutsu soon ended. I was rather amazed by Itachi's acting skill. The facade he had just shown was totally fake.

Sasuke slowly started to take of his bandages. They revealed seals.

The two entered a tense shuriken battle. The weapons flew everwhere, yet not one of them actually hit the other. The skill demonstated was unbelievable. Espacially when I saw Itachi make a quick hand seal in the middle of it all.

This was the power of the Sharingan eye.

The two suddenly flashed toward each other, each grabbing an arm, and having thier attacking arm be blocked.

The two pushed against each other's grip for a bit, until Itachi's clone came up and threw three kunai at Sasuke, who was immediately protected by a white snak. That wrapped around him.

The snake disappeared, and Sasuke was revealed with a giant shuriken. He threw it at the Itachis, and charged it with chidori. The clone was taken out, but the original kicked Sasuke to the wall. He flew back and was held to the wall bu Itachi's iron grip.

Genjutsu came into play once again, this time extremely morbid.

Itachi reached his hand out...and pulled out Sasuke's eye. Sasuke screamed out loud in pain, and brought a hand to cover the bleeding eye.

Pain was coursing through his body. I winced as I imagined the pain.

As Itachi reached for the second eye, Sasuke's curse seal activated. A claw-like wing sprouted from his neck and it blew Itachi backwards. Itachi pulled out a container and dropped the eye into it.

Another Itachi appeared behind Sasuke, and he restrained Sasuke's movements. once again, Itachi reached for the eye. as he did, the curse seal activated, and spread to Sasuke's eye. The genjutsu started to shatter and then ended.

That genjutsu had been special; it was stronger than any of the previous ones. It was Tsukuyomi.

Sasuke had broken free from it. Genjutsu was pointless now.

It was time for Ninjutsu.

Sasuke used Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu/Giant Fireball.

The flames blasted through the ceiling, thus moving the battle to the roof.

The two faced each other, and then as once, performed the signs for the next jutsu.

Two great balls of flame charged at each other. They fought for control. Finally, Sasuke started to gain the upper hand.

There was a sudden burst of chakra in Itachi's eys, and black flames sprung forth as his own regular flame was swallowed up.

Amaterasu. A Mangekyō Sharingan technic that I hadn't seen in a long time. The last time was when Madara had used it.

The air around the fire was extremely distorted, the heat messing up the air.

Sasuke's flames were overpowered. The black flames headed toward him, but then Itachi's eys snapped shut. The concentration was lost; the target was gone. The fires fades away.

Sasuke ran around Itachi, who aimed jets of Amaterasu at him. The blazes hit the surroundjng trees and such.

Eventually, Sasuke was hit. He screamed as the flames covered him.

Itachi collapsed to his knees, exhausted. I waited. Sasuke wasn't finished yet.

Massive amounts of chakra built up below us. The younger Uchiha was using Katon: Gōryūka no Jutsu/Great Dragon Fire Technique.

Streams of flame crashed through the cement. Itachi darted around, narrowly avoiding the flame.

I frowned. Sasuke couldn't see Itachi, so how did he know where to fire?

Unless...his target wasn't Itachi. But what else would it be?

A rumble drew my attention to the sky. Clouds gathered in the previously clear blue sky.

Of course. It was like one of Kaname's powers. Fire was sent up into the sky to create currents, which then created a large amount of energy. Lightning, water, and just raw natural energy, which could be used as Senjutsu Chakra.

Sasuke held up his hand which held a chidori.

"This is my final attack. Its name is Kirin. Itachi! Disappear with a thunderclap!"

As the jutsu flew toward Itachi, I began to think about this whole battle.

Sasuke jumped down from his perch, pretty much totally out of energy.

This whole fight happened because of hate. Hate, greed, love, revenge. All these emotions created this battle.

This battle that was tearing apart Itachi.

He loved his brother, he sacrificed his pride, his love, his family, for Sasuke. And yet, right now, he was fighting that brother.

How could he do it? With a greater goal in mind, love could be conquored. Emotions, feelings, human nature could be destroyed. For Itachi, his greater goal was Sasuke's survival and thriving.

He had to mask the love he had, he had to inflect pain on Sasuke.

All this pain from dark chakra and the negativity is generated.

Itachi was a victim of what we had strived to do away with. Shinobi in general were. Hate was passed from generation to generation. It grew, but it had no reason to. The new Iwa genin hated the Yondiame for what he did to the generation before. The hate had been passed down, and it thrived.

It was unreasonable hate.

People, villages, culture, all these arose from ashes. Sure, people died, but the village survived. The village continued and thrived. It grew. There was no lasted damage besides death. But humans died every day. Shinobi knew that they could die in a few hours. That was what they were.

So why was it that people got so upset over something that was meant to happen?

Attachments. Bonds. Love.

Once those were broken, the light would fall into darkness. But that was just how we, as humans, were.

It was like a wall with weeds. The wall was our basic instinct for survival; how we started. Then, weeds and vines grew. They changed the wall. Lives were risked for revenge. Basic instincts were just survival. Now, it had changed.

A baby starts with a perfect balance of good and evil. A blank wall. They are influenced to change. They make bonds, they find goals. The wall changes. However, they change because they don't know anything. They have no protection, no knowledge to make their own choices.

By the time they do have the knowledge, evil has already set its roots. Pulling them out results in a collapse of the basic foundation that has been taught since one was a child.

However, what if one could pull out the weeds without collapsing? Then they could change. They would bring light.

There was a sudden change in the atmosphere. The strong tang of fear.

Focusing back to the battle, I saw the source. Sasuke.

Red chakra loomed out of the smoke. Itachi's figure stumbled out.

"Is that all? Surely, you most have a final trump card left to use?

Itachi stumbled toward Sasuke with the Susano'o surrounding him. Vile chakra came into the air. I searched for the source.

Once again, it was Sasuke.

The vile chakra however, didn't seem like Sasuke's. It was more like-

A giant, nine-headed snake came from Sasuke's neck. One of the mouths opened to reveal...

-Orochimaru.

Itachi held out his blade and stabbed Orochimaru. He laughed, taunting Itachi and saying that a mere blade would do nothing.

I scoffed. As if the Susano'o would be holding a mere blade.

It was the Sword of Totsuka. It had seals engraved on it that even I couldn't figure out. It was made by the first Uzumaki.

My mother's sister's descendent.

Orochimaru was sealed away, and Itachi approached Sasuke. I waited.

Mistleaf stood besides me.

"Momiji-sama, Itachi's life is fading. He has minutes, at most."

"Just a bit more..." Itachi tapped Sasuke's forehead.

"His life is ebbing away even faster!" Mistleaf exclaimed. Indeed. He was using his life force, which was already small, and was dying.

"Let's go." Grayback's jutsu cancelled, I ran up to the collapsed Itachi while forming seals.

"Medical art: Life force transfer."

I placed my hands on his chest and concentrated. He was still alive, just barely.

The jutsu allowed me to give some of my life energy away. It would shorten my life, but it didn't matter.

If our plans went right, I would be dying soon either way.

Deep stuff... And foreshadowing!
