Episode 101 : "Deadly Force : Part VI"
Soltorn's eyes opened, and she found herself in a solid glass tube once again. He blood boiled.
"What is the meaning of this?" she shouted. "I had Voltron in the palm of my hand, and yet here I stand, locked away!"
"Patience, General," Maaahox said, with his usual beaming demeanor. "The Sky Marshall will give you another opportunity to destroy Voltron."
"He has hindered my efforts far too long!" she growled. "I want my revenge! If not on Voltron, then on Wade himself!" Maahox pushed a button, and the tube filled with a noxious purple gas. Within moments, she slumped over, unconscious.
"She seems eager to die," Wade commented as he walked into the lab.
"Charles," Maahox said, turning to look at him, "she is merely eager to fulfill her objective."
"As am I," Wade replied. "Nothing would please me more than to see those Academy brats put down for good. Mere 'cadets' who think they should have the honor of piloting Voltron." He balled his mechanical right hand into a fist. "Once Iceorb and Solan have been rebuilt and retrofitted with Xyan cloaking technology, and laced with haggarium, Soltron and her team will be the most powerful robeasts Korronith has ever seen!"
"I agree," Maahox replied, "but we still must proceed with caution. If the General suspects for a second that you have no intention of fulfilling your end of the bargain…."
"She really doesn't have much of a choice, does she, Maahox?" he asked, grinning. Maahox paused for a moment before replying.
"No….sir," he replied.
"If you need me, I'll be on the bridge," Wade said. "I think it's time we complete our little project on Earth's moon." He walked out of the room, Maahox turning back to the glass tube. He placed a single hand on the glass.
"Oh, the things I have in store for you," he said, laughing.
Commander Stormclaw walked into the office and saluted.
"You wanted to speak to me, Space Marshall?" he asked.
"Have a seat, Mike," she replied, the door closing automatically. He took a seat in front of her desk. "I heard the Voltron Force returned from Quantus unscathed."
"Yes," he replied. "Between them and the Panthers, they were able to drive the Drule forces back."
"Good," she replied. "I know Commander Steele has been pushing the Panthers a lot, especially with his son being squad leader."
"Yes, Space Marshall," he replied.
"I just want to make sure the teams haven't been clashing," she said. "You know as well as I do that we need to proceed with caution as the new Council is put into place."
"I understand completely," he replied.
"That said," she continued, "I do need you to perform some tasks pertaining to your new position."
"As in?" he asked.
"As in I need you to travel to Mira and assist them with selecting their representatives for Council," she replied. "With the refugees from Hydra trying to displace themselves on Mira and other nearby systems, it's important they too get representation in Coincil, so that we can more effectively make decisions on their behalf."
"But….to have me travel to Mira?" Mike asked. "Lenora, you know I put in for leave weeks ago. I was looking forward to getting away for a while."
"And you will," she replied. "Think of it as a miniature vacation. You'll only need to advise. It won't be your full responsibility to pick their representative." He gave her a blank stare. She leaned forward in her chair and rested her chin in her hands, looking at Mike with her chocolate brown eyes. "Mike, you do know the beaches there are some of the most beautiful in this part of the galaxy? Jon and I were at one of their resorts, and you wouldn't believe how much fun we had."
"But you weren't there on business, Lenora," Mike protested.
"Details, details," she said, waving her hand. "You'll find a way to have fun, even if you coup yourself up in a hotel room, and I know YOU would." She let out a small laugh.
"I had so many plans though," he said. "Surely someone can go in my place…perhaps Admiral Fabrere?"
"The Admiral has gone to Dradin to get some affairs in order," she replied. "Believe me, Commander, there's no one else I can afford to send." A signal came over the com. She hit the button. "Yes?"
"Space Marshall," the voice said, "your guest has arrived."
"Send them up immediately," she replied, ending the com. She looked back up at Mike. "I don't think any plans you made were as important as this mission."
"I beg to differ," Mike protested. "Lenora, you must understand, I…." Before he could finish his sentence, the doors opened, and the guest walked in.
"Ah, Miss Deville, I'm glad you could make it," Lenora said with a smile rising to her feet.
"I don't think I understand," Mike said, standing up, astonished.
"You didn't think I was going to let you fly off alone, did you?" Lenora replied with a smirk. "And I'm sure she wouldn't want you to."
"How soon are we departing?" Stasia asked.
"As soon as you're ready," Lenora replied. A grin began to tug at Mike's lips.
"Thank you, Space Marshall," Stasia said. She grabbed Mike by the arm and led him out the door. As it closed, Lenora let out a small laugh before continuing her paperwork.
Dariana walked into the living room of the apartment to find Roxy sitting in the chair, seemingly deep in thought. She walked over to the couch nearby and sat down as well.
"What's on your mind?" she asked innocently.
"That snartbag Ryan and his group of thugs," she snapped. "Am I the only one ticked off about what happened out there?"
"No," Dariana replied, "but we can't let our differences with their team get in the way of our own mission."
"But what is our mission, Dar?" she asked. "Voltron is the Defender of the Universe. But we keep getting upstaged by that scruffy piece of snart! And to top it off, we're still no closer to stopping Kala."
"I know," Dariana said, "but it isn't just Kala."
"I know," Roxy replied. "I'm not ignoring this Lord Kanji guy you keep mentioning. If the Drules have found a new leader, then the Alliance forces will want to take him out. But we still need to focus on what we know….but we've lost all leads."
"We know they're still within reach of Quantus," Dariana said. "We know they need lazon."
"True," Roxy said, her ears perking up at the thought.
"It's only a matter of time until they come up with some way to get what they need," Dariana said. "Question is, where can they get that much lazon besides Quantus?"
"I think I have an idea," Roxy said. "It'll have to wait until morning. We'll fill in the others and see Lieutenant Commander Stoker." Dariana nodded.
Dariana opened her eyes and saw a tower before her. She felt a sudden feeling of dread, and took a step backwards, but someone beside her grabbed her hand.
"You musn't fear it, little one," a familiar voice spoke to her.
"What is it, papa?" she asked, looking once again at the tall structure before her. "It scares me."
"It is a remnant of the Old Ones, my child," he replied, gently rubbing her back, trying to comfort her. "It is dormant. The power of Voltron has stopped this monster from continuing its rampage through the galaxy. I want you to see the reason your mother did what she did."
"I still feel her, papa," she said. Dariana was not in control, but she felt something making her listen closely…as if this tiny piece of information was the most vital of all. "She is still alive."
"The only part of her left alive is in the Defender," he implored. "Everything else is dead."
"But she wasn't dead," a voice in her head whispered. "She was more than a memory, and more than the elements that bound the Defender. The half of her that survived the process…she became so tortured…..so cold….that her very blood held the key to Voltron's destruction."
"What are you trying to show me?" she asked in her head, realizing Kovinx was once again trying to warn her of something.
"There is a reason I feared the beast before us that day," she continued. "Just like her….they are not dead. Only dormant. Awaiting the day of awakening."
"Papa!" she shouted as she pointed. "It's waking up! It's waking up! It's waking up!"
To be continued…..
