"Nasuada, I—" He tries to make her understand why. He did those things for her, and for Eragon.
She, of course, refuses to believe such a thing. The rain streaks her face and her eyes flash desert fire. Such a fierce, proud, unforgiving woman.
"You expect me to believe that you murdered for me?"
"Yes?"
"You idiot! You gods-cursed—"
Without thinking, he kisses her, spice and oranges, sweet and wild, like wine.
The punch to the jaw sends him reeling.
But she's blushing, and he smiles, despite his aching face.
And Eragon, damn him, snorts into his potatoes.
