like the start of something new

Ginny meets Fleur for the first time at Hogwarts, when Beauxbatons comes for the Triwizard Tournament.

Fleur comes to the Gryffindor table to get bouillabaisse – and whatever that is, now Ginny wants to try it – and all Ginny can think is that this girl is the most beautiful girl she's ever seen.

Her hair shines like spun moonlight and her skin possesses the same inner light as a star, and when she walks away Ginny can't tear her eyes away from her back.

It's the weirdest thing too, because she remembers seeing the Veelas at the World's Cup and not reacting to them – in fact, she remembers mocking her brother's actions – but now that she's close to this girl who has to be at least part Veela, that seems to be no longer true.

She's far from being as affected as the guys around her – who seem to be drooling and lose their words at every look from Fleur – but she still can't stop staring.

(when no one's looking, she sneaks a look at the other girls around her, and oh)

(yeah, not just a Veela thing)

They chat some after the Second Task – both their siblings were taken after all, and though their feelings about it were definitely different, it did give them an opportunity to start talking.

They have a lot of differences – most glaring among them being their age difference – but still, when Fleur smiles her way, it feels like the start of something.

Something good.
