Sonny looked at the woman he loved and felt helpless. She had been staring at the picture of her son for hours without speaking a word. She had finished her work on the magazine hours ago and was now sitting in the room Alec once slept in when he lived there. It had been years, and Sonny had changed it, but he often found her sitting in there when she needed to clear her head.
Sonny had been racking his brain trying to figure out something he could do to pull her out of this funk she was in. He had been pouring over leads to info about Jax and Jerry but had nothing. He had even reached out to an unlikely source and spent countless hours wanting to shoot himself. Spinelli had a way with the nicknames, and he absolutely hated them, but he needed the smartest man in town looking into his stepson's whereabouts. He was almost at his wit's end.
He leaned into the doorway to see her just staring at the picture and called her name just to see a sad smile flash across her gorgeous lips. "Honey, you need me? Is Avery home?"
She was great with Avery. She had even built a bridge between him and Ava. He was letting Avery stay over a few nights on the weekends. "She's going to spend some time with Molly, Kristina, and Parker. Uh, the girls they want to spend a day with you soon."
She had been spending a lot of time with the girls, but the past week had been off. She hadn't really spent much time anywhere besides with Jason and Carly. Well, more Jason than Carly, but him being at her house made her a part of the deal.
Jason and Carly. He hadn't seen that one coming. They had a thing years ago, but he hadn't thought it would ever resurface. Jason seemed to be so in love with Sam he couldn't see straight, but that had also been before he came back. He really did come back with a piece of him missing; well actually, he had come back with more than he left with. Now he was just trying to figure his life out. As much as it should bother him about Jason and Carly, Sonny had to admit he was relieved.
The mess with Kim strained Carly and Sonny's relationship. They were friends, but he didn't feel as if they had the closeness that was once there. He used to go to Carly for almost anything, and for a period, he didn't have either her or Jason. It was hard. Now they were falling back into place, the dynamics were different, but he was comfortable around them again. Their romantic relationship would take some getting used to, but he would do his best to understand. He couldn't expect them to be behind his life with Brenda if he didn't at least try to understand whatever they had going on.
"I would love to do something with the girls soon," Brenda got his attention and Sonny grinned. She was trying so hard to sound upbeat, and he could see right through it.
"Come here," Sonny extended his arms and Brenda walked into them willingly. Her head found his chest, and he kissed the top of it. Her hair smelled like vanilla and honey, and he sniffed it, while her sweet giggle surfaced.
"You're weird." She held him tighter and exhaled into his chest. "You're smelling my hair?"
"I like memorizing things about you. Sue me."
"You know I'm not going anywhere, right? I promised you forever."
"We promised that before, and you left with Alec."
Sonny hated thinking the way he did, but he would be lying if he didn't admit that a part of him was worried about her taking Alec and running.
"Oh, honey." She ran her hand over his cheek and brought it down to her lips. "I love you. I made a whole life without you, twice, but it was never full. Alec and I were happy, but I missed you every day."
"Even when you hated me?"
"When I hated you I loved you. You're one of those hard to shake things. There will never be a day where forgetting you will be easy. Especially now."
"Why especially now?"
"You have my blood," she kissed his palm and slid hers over his shirt clothed chest, "and now I have yours. It makes me hot. It makes me feel as if I'm more connected to you, and that's all I ever wanted to be. I wanted you to let me in, and I finally feel like you have. You tell me the things I want to know, and what you can't you do your best with. I'll never be able to give you up, not like this."
He didn't think they were going to recover from the fight the other night, but she had surprised him. Brenda was pissed and made no secret of it until he talked her down. She was mad at him, and she was mad at Jason. Jason more because she trusted him to not lie; he never had. She said expected lies from him because of his insane need to protect her, but she expected more from Jason. In an attempt to be the bigger person, Sonny admitted he talked Jason into withholding the truth and explained his reasoning, and she calmed down. She insisted on apologizing to Jason, which prompted their trip to Carly's house.
Sonny slid his fingers over her cheekbone and smiled, letting his dimples show. "What if I told you I can't keep you safe? What if I said you'd always have a target on your back?"
"What's new? I'm never safe with you." She smiled. "My body or my heart. They've never been safe with you because you can control every orifice of me. I'm powerless."
"I'll always protect both. I'll do more than protect your body; I'll show it ecstasy."
"You've shown me a time or two."
"Just a time or two?"
"Every time you touch me," she breathed out. "Gentle or rough, angry or happy, you drive me crazy."
"In a good way?"
"In the best way. It's magnetic. I think I will always find my way back here."
"What if I lost my temper and pushed you away?"
"I would scream back, we would probably break a few things, one of them being our bed once we made up, and I would make you apologize all night long."
"All night?"
"I feel like you would have a lot to be sorry for," she laughed. "You say a lot of hurtful things when you're angry, but you also say the sweetest things when you're holding me."
"You say the sexiest things when I'm bleeding, and my life is in your hands. I think you get off on it. You have me right where you want me, and you try your hardest to get me all riled up."
"I try to keep you breathing. You have this knack for getting shot around me. You've ruined a few of my better outfits," she joked. "I think I've held your hand through just about some of the worst physical trauma you put yourself through."
"And you didn't hesitate. You've always come to me when I needed if you were close enough. Even when you weren't mine, you were still mine. You worry about me, and I like that."
Brenda looked off, and Sonny could see a few tears gathering in her eyes. The light moment they were just having had turned into something more. "What's that look?"
"When Morgan died, I wanted to come to you. I wanted to hold you and tell you I loved you, but I knew you had your family and Carly. You didn't need me. I sent you this huge bouquet of flowers, but I told them to leave the card off. I didn't want you to know it was me."
"Pink and white roses," he nodded. "I looked at them probably a hundred times and felt like I knew who sent them, but I thought I was crazy. In my mind, there was no way they were from you, but I hoped. I always need you. There is not one day that goes by that I don't need you. I thought you wanted me to leave you alone, so I did. I wished you would have called. I would have loved to hear from you."
"And have you abandon your life and family to come after me? I don't think so."
"You stayed away because you wanted to, and I stayed away because I thought it was what you wanted, but here you are in our home. Why aren't you running?"
"You're the only one I want to run to. Moths to a flame."
She quoted one of his lines, and he couldn't help the smile that broke out across his face. So much of his history was wrapped up in her. His first love, the first woman he ever lived with, the first to break his heart, and the first to ever hear the words I love you from him. She was perfect, everything he ever wanted.
Sonny's fingers tangled through her light curls, and he tilted her head back. "You're beautiful." Her lips curved into a smile and she fluttered her eyes. "What?"
"That feeling."
"What feeling?"
"The one you get when your world is almost perfect, and then it comes crashing down around you. I don't want to lose us, but I don't want to hesitate too long and not find him."
"If Alec is out there we will find him. Me and Jason haven't agreed on much lately, but we agree on you and Alec. We will do whatever it takes."
"And then what?"
"We will bring him home. I want you here; I want him here."
"Can you handle that? A teenager and Avery? Is it too much? It was too much last time."
"This time I know what losing you feels like."
"You've lost me before."
"Not as my wife. The day I slid those first two rings on your finger I swore to never let go, and the day the third went on bonded us. Our wedding day was one of the happiest and scariest of my life, but I wouldn't trade marrying you for anything."
"I was frightened that day, I thought I would die at one point, but I knew you would come for me. That time, that danger was all me. I brought that problem to you, so we've both been in situations because of each other, but we made it. I feel like I could do anything as long as I'm with you."
"And I would do anything to make you happy. I didn't want more kids when I had Avery, but I love her. My kids are my world, and I will do anything I can to make Alec feel like a part of that. He's a part of you."
"You're different."
"Different, how?"
"When I look at you I see this calmness even though I'm terrified of how things will turn out. How do you do that?"
"I wanna make you happy. I want you to be comfortable."
"I'm comfortable, baby." Her arms crossed around his neck, and her head found his chest. "With you is the best place in the world. I can't think or anywhere that feels more like home."
She felt wonderful in his arms, and sliding his hands down to grip her waist, he lifted her and moved against the wall. His tongue tasted her sweet lips first, and his finger tilted her head to lock their eyes. He saw everything there. Passion, pain, love, lust, and fear. He'd work hard to erase the latter.
"Mmmh." His lips found there place against hers, and what was once meant to be a simple act of reassurance turned primal. Her legs were spread around him, and her hands fought against themselves for the perfect resting place. He could feel the tremors and uncertainty on where they needed to go. He loved it.
While he could see the internal struggle coursing through her brown orbs, he saw when the decision was made because her small hands ripped his shirt open with little hesitation. Buttons flew as she brushed it from his shoulders and he pushed her body further against the wall.
"Uh, Sonny," she whispered. "I want you."
Brenda's legs were wrapped tightly, but Sonny managed to slip his hand down and flicked the button on her jeans open. Once his hands found her zipper, she bit down on his ear. She nibbled lightly and ran her tongue over the slight ache and followed it up with a gush of cool wind across it that made him shiver. His senses were going haywire. She was driving him crazy.
"Don't do that."
Sonny forced her hands down and moved her to the bed. She was still wrapped around him when he went for her shirt. He was stripping the buttons down when she moved his hands and tossed her shirt to the side.
They fumbled their way to undressing, their tops already discarded, her hands were working on unbuckling his pants, and he was undoing the clasp of her bra allowing her perfect breasts to fall free on his bare chest. He had no idea how they'd accomplished being practically naked so fast, but the thought fell away as his hands reached up to cup her breasts, her nipples already hardened with desire.
As his pants fell to the floor and he moved her back further on the bed, he reluctantly removed his hands from her chest and worked on pulling the skin tight jeans from her perfect ass, sliding them down and off her body, leaving her thin panties the only barrier between them. He reached down to remove them feeling the small scrap of material soaking beneath his fingers, her desire for him seemingly as strong as his for her. His rock hard shaft ached with desire as he maneuvered her legs apart.
She pulled him close to her, and their mouths met once more before he began to trail kisses down her skin. He parted her folds with his fingers in preparation for the slowly leisurely flicks of his tongue on her clit. He felt her hands digging into his scalp, and she grasped his hair. She was squirming and thrusting her hips forward while urging his head closer to her as she began to shake and shudder in the throes of ecstasy. As she came down from that high, she pulled him up, guiding him into her. He sighed as he first entered her, thinking there could be nothing closer to heaven than this feeling of burying himself into her scorching, drizzling love box.
He thrust slowly and deeply, raising her leg over his shoulder, allowing him to push further inside of her. Her breath caressed his face as she bucked against him, pushing her hips forward as if begging for more. He increased his rhythmic manipulation of her body and slammed further into her. He watched as her eyelids fluttered and her chest heaved with her heavy, ragged breaths. She twisted and moved beneath him, her walls clutching him tighter.
As he continued, her orgasm came, and her moans increased in frequency and volume as her head fell back in pleasure. The tightening of her walls pulled him over the edge, and he fell onto the bed beside her as she looked over at him with an epic smile. He traced the contours of her face as her long brunette locks spread over the pillow and felt a surge of love within him. She curled her small body up against his, and he wrapped himself around her. They were sated and relaxed into their own bliss when he heard a sound from behind him.
Sonny's first reaction was to reach for his gun, but it was down the hall. He raised from her body and could see the confusion clouding her features and placed his finger to her lips. She nodded her head, signaling that she understood and he moved closer to the door after slipping his boxers on.
Sonny was unsure about how he would protect them with no weapons, but he was counting on having the element of surprise. Brenda laid against the wall after grabbing her shirt and tried to slip it back on, out of sight from the door, and he was proud of his girl for knowing what to do. He smiled at her briefly, and it was short lived when a body came through the door of the room. Sonny lunged and knocked the person to the floor as they both tumbled.
Sonny was about to swing when he heard a voice call his name. "Sonny, stop." Jason.
His blue eyes were wide with surprise when Brenda sat up, clutching her half-open shirt. "Jason? So you're just paying us back? We were in the middle of—"
"I know what you were doing," Jason cut in. "I've been calling your phones; you didn't answer. Sonny." He narrowed his eyes at him. "We need to talk. Alone."
Sonny tossed a glance back at Brenda and she nodded her head. He wasn't used to her letting him go without questions. This was new; he liked it. Sonny pulled what was left of his shirt together as he followed Jason. The went all the way downstairs and ended up in his office, and Jason closed the door behind them.
"What is it? If this is about you and Carly, then you don't have to say—"
"We found Jax," Jason cut him off.
"Where?" Sonny dropped the whole Jason and Carly talk as his anger took over.
"He was coming into Port Charles."
"Where is he now?"
"In our warehouse. He's not going anywhere."
"Good. Extend a welcome to Candy Boy. I'll be dressed and ready in five minutes."
Sonny made his way back up the stairs and saw Brenda standing at the top. He knew she hadn't heard what was said, but she took one look at him and nodded. "You have to go?"
"Yeah. Just stay here. Don't leave the house, honey."
"Sonny, I want to go—"
"Brenda," he stopped her. "I'm not going to discuss it, and I can't sit here and argue with you. Either you want me to handle business, or you want me here. You can't have it both ways."
"Just come back, Sonny. Come back." Her arms wrapped around him, and he held her for a second before pulling out of her embrace.
Sonny went and got dressed afterward and made his way downstairs. To his surprise, he was met with the boisterous objections of his favorite ex-wife. "I'm not going to just sit here, Jason! If you and Sonny want to go out playing renegade, then I'm going. You don't get to talk to him without me."
"You told her?" Sonny sighed.
"I told him," Carly huffed. "He called my house. You wouldn't have this information without me!"
Sonny felt something shoot through him. Something was off, but he shook it, throwing his hand up to silence Carly. "We don't have time to argue, Carly."
"I'm not going to argue, Sonny. Take me with you. Jax will tell me more than he tells either of you."
"It's not up for debate; you will stay here."
Sonny waved his hands, and two guards walked in and stood next to the door. "You will not hold me captive," Carly protested. "You can do that with your little wife."
Brenda walked into the room and took a seat on the couch. She glanced at Carly and rolled her eyes. "He doesn't hold me captive, and if I were you, I'd shut that mouth of yours. I'm in no mood."
"Bite me," Carly crossed her arms.
Sonny shook his head and stepped toward the door with Jason right behind him. He walked all the way to his car and Jason slid into the passenger seat. "Are you sure those two will be okay?" Sonny started the car.
"They will be fine."
"At least you have faith. I'm not sure I ever will with that pair."
"For once they aren't focused on the same men. They will be fine."
Sonny wasn't sure how to feel about that, but he pushed it aside. For now, he had other thoughts much bigger than his wife's rivalry with his ex. He had his own score to settle, and he was going to enjoy beating some answers out of Jax.
