Chapter 25
'Hold onto me, I will tend to your foot as soon as we get you to your room. Legolas help Ginny.' Soon we were back in my room and I was sitting on the bed, as Aragorn worked on my foot. I could tell he was angry. But I was too.
'I know you are mad but…'
'Do not speak, your foot is not broken it is just a sprain.' He said as he rubbed my foot with his warm hands. 'Can I trust you to stay here while I collect some herbs to lessen the pain you are so obviously in?' He asked with a cold stare,
'Don't be daft I can hardly walk on my foot without falling over myself. And where would I possibly go? I doubt any elves would let me out of Rivendell.' He did not reply, he just walked out. I let out a sigh and hoped Ginny was not getting too much of a tongue lash after that horrid experience. I was deep in thought and failed to notice Aragorn's return. He skilfully rubbed some herbs onto my foot, I hissed in pain, his eyes turning from anger to concern.
'If you must know, I broke my foot and tried to fix it but it did not really work. The bones are not broken but they did not heal correctly.'
'Why did you not tell me sooner? I could have fixed it for you?'
'I forgot, I had so many injuries most left me when I was turned into an elf but a few scares and my doggy foot remain.' He nodded grimly,
'Magic did not work?' I shook my head.
'At the time I did not have my wand and it is very complicated I could have attempted it but it would have been a big risk especially as I was trying to survive and with no wand. The last thing I needed was not to be able to use my foot at all. So I let it go and soon I couldn't feel it anyway.' Again he nodded,
'Hermione I am very sorry but in order to fix your foot, I will have to reset your bones that will mean braking them. I will speak with Remus to see if he is able to help fix this. But first I want to know why.' I sighed,
'I should be asking you that?'
'Answer my question.'
'Not until you answer mine.'
'Which is?'
'Ginny and I overheard your conversation with Remus and Sirius. I do not like to be talked about. And I certainly do not like people making a decision on my behalf. You have no idea who you are dealing with. I am not who you think I am. By the way if it means anything I am sorry, and there is only one way to fix my foot. I'd rather leave it, it has not bothered me since it healed. '
'You have no reason to involve yourself in matters which do not concern you. Stay in your room and do not leave. If you do I shall know.' I sent him a glare back and he walked away. I had to see Ginny and make sure she was ok. I waited a good half hour before testing my foot. It was still sore, but not painful enough to stop me. I quietly opened the door wondering what Aragorn had meant that he would know. As soon as I walked out I made my way to Ginny's room where I saw Aragorn giving her the same lecture. I would not have walked in if Ginny looked fine. But she did not, her eyes held fear. She was still stuck in the past. I burst into the room. Aragorn turned around,
'I told you not to leave your room.'
'Shut up, I do not care what you said, you do not have the right to tell me what to do. Now get out so I can clam Ginny.' He did not move, 'Go now.' He walked up to me and stood dangerously close,
'Do not speak to me like that. Remember I am responsible for you, in which you agreed. I will warn you, you have already crossed a line today do not cross it again or I can guarantee you will regret it. Now I have healed Ginny and I have spoken to her. You are both grounded that means you are confined to your room for the rest of this week. When the week is up you will formally apologies to Lord Elrond. Come back to your room.' I decided I did not like this so I decided to try and suggest something else.
'Wait, I am sorry, we both are. Can I please just have a moment with Ginny please. I will explain why we did what we did? But right now I have to make sure she is ok.' Aragorn looked at me for what seemed like hours,
'Very well. But any lies and you will be sent to work in the kitchens and when not working you will be writing lines.' I nodded and rushed to Ginny.
'I am so sorry, If I had known I would not have made you come,'
'I would have come anyway you should know that by now. It is fine I was just shocked at feeling so powerless, I felt like I was being possessed again.' I pulled her into a hug as tears ran down her pale face. I could feel she was still shaking.
'Do not worry about Aragorn I will deal with him.' I said standing up and walking to Aragorn, 'She will need help sleeping tonight. And she should not be left alone.' I told Aragorn, who nodded and called for Legolas to come. A little while later Legolas took over my position and held her hand and softly sang to her. I hesitated at the door,
'Do not fear, Ginny is in very good hands. She will sleep tonight. Remus will check up on her soon.' I felt guilty about leaving but I knew I needed to make amends, 'Do not feel guilty.' He led me out and into a side room. It was set up like an office, and at that moment I felt as if I was back in school. Oh how I missed school, I missed so much, my friends, my family, and my school. Aragorn gestured me to sit down I did so as he took a seat behind the desk.
'I will cut straight to the point.' I said wanting to get this over and done with as soon as possible. 'Firstly I became mad at you for talking about me to my friends. I wanted to know what type of power was loose in Rivendell I could feel it. So Ginny and I decided to get information. That is when a so called ring started speaking to us in our minds. Suddenly I was back at my school watching Harry die. Voldermort would scare us by speaking to us in our minds it was a horrible feeling. Ginny having been possessed by him got the worst of it. I tried blocking out the noise but then before I knew it I was falling and Ginny was right next to me and my foot was on fire. There that's the whole story and nothing but the truth. In future you need not protect me nor Ginny. We have been through enough to know when something is amiss.' Aragorn was still yet to say something as he looked me in the eyes which was a little uncomfortable, I was trying to match his stare but failed.
'Very well I will inform you of the evil in our world. But I have your word that you and Ginny will stay in Rivendell no matter what. Your word Hermione, and you will go unpunished.'
'Agreed.' And with that said, Aragorn launched into detail about what the meeting was about and he spoke of Orc's and powerful white wizards. He spoke of the wars that would take place once the enemy found out about the ring of power. It sounded like the war back at home. The difference being is that the creatures were out to kill the race of men. Whereas Death Eaters were hoping to turn pure blooded witches and wizards on their side. Both as evil as each other. Remus walked in, and nodded at Aragorn,
'Another matter I wanted to speak to you about is your foot. I suspect that even if you do not feel it, you would feel better if we re fixed the bones.' My heart started beating even faster than it did when I was being glared at by three men who looked like they could kill me in a blink of an eye. I looked to Remus and knew without a doubt the only way to do this was to brake all my bones.
'No it is fine, please leave it.' I said,
'I would not use magic as I would be too worried to cause more damage. I am no healer, but I can make a numbing potion. The longer we wait the worse it will get.' I knew he was right, and I had a point to prove, that I was stronger than I seemed.
'Fine, let us get it over with.'
'Very well then. Remus would you call Lord Elrond to Hermione's room, also Legolas. When you have done that could you see to Ginny and make sure she is well.' Aragorn led me to my room once again this time though he made sure I was comfortable. I found myself shaking slightly, as Legolas and Lord Elrond walked in.
'Legolas would you please hold her and keep her calm.' Legolas moved my body until he was holding me on his lap. That is when I really started shaking,
'Ada would you see if Remus has any numbing potion handy and if not ask him to make some up.' Aragorn turned to face me,
'I will make this as quickly as I can.' Soon Lord Elrond came back holding the potion, I quickly drank it explaining to them that it should start to numb my foot straight away, but it would not take away all the pain that I was about to endure. Legolas started rubbing my back, and somehow completely calming me down.
'Put this in your mouth to bite down on just in case.' I put the wet cloth into my mouth and before I could think another thought I was already biting down hard as an agonizing pain shot through my body I recoiled trying to get my foot away from more oncoming pain, but Legolas held me down, tears blinded my vision, as Aragorn snapped another bone. I thought I would pass out as I screamed. I was breathing hard, and panic settled in, I spat the cloth out of my mouth. And soon was drifting into a sleep.
Remus knew he could have used magic but he also knew Hermione very well. Knowing she and Ginny would follow the group he told Aragorn this and he agreed. They had decided that after two days of travelling that they would allow Hermione a full recovery. The elves knew this and had agreed. Remus's only regret would be not saying goodbye.
