End Game

The Briefing Room was full as Tariq jogged in and grabbed his customary seat next to Calum and Beth. Ruth stared at the iPad in front of her while Ros folded her arms and leant against the wall.

"Eurostar officials contacted me earlier." Harry began. "They've closed the Dover terminal, officially due to a technical fault but in actual fact."

"They found something." Tariq interrupted.

"Yes, a man fitting Towers description was there and is currently being observed." Ruth stated. "A technical fault has kept everyone on the train carriage until we can get there to pick him up."

"Ros, you do the honours. Take a team with you. Adam, you take a team and bring Moran back here." Harry watched Adam smirk.

"Zaf, Lucas, Zoe and Beth with me." Ros walked out of the room leaving no room for argument. Lucas pushed his chair back as the others followed. Adam frowned slightly.

"Beth, Dimitri, Alec and Erin. Tariq you watch Ros' team, Calum keep an eye on our comms."

"Boss." Calum nodded once. Minutes later only Malcolm, Ruth and Harry were left in the room.

"I don't like this." Malcolm frowned.

"Neither do I." Harry paused. Ruth ran a hand over her face, clearly in pain she ignored the concerned looks from both men.

"The field where Adam and I were supposed to die." Harry felt his blood run cold. "He told Adam that was where the bodies were buried. It was where we were going to be buried, he knows we'll look there. He is going to be waiting."

"Then he won't be disappointed."

"He's a killer, he's going to be ready."

"Yes, but this time so are we." Harry held her gaze as she narrowed her eyes. The fear gripped her stomach. She dreaded to think what could happen if Adam and Moran were left alone together, she knew Moran wanted his revenge and would go to any lengths to get it.

The early autumn sun did nothing to improve Ros' mood as she left the oppo van on the corner of the busy high street.

"Ros." Lucas spoke calmly.

"What?"

"You sure about this?"

"Zaf and Zoe are checking out the carriages." Ros ignored the question. Lucas nodded. "Zoe's looking at the cctv while Zaf talks to the staff. We know his ticket number, it's a straight forward pick up."

"Hope so." Lucas looked her in the eye wondering what his wife wasn't telling him.

"Does the phrase needle in haystacks mean anything to you?" Dimitri stated as Adam looked around. "He could be anywhere."

"Yeah." Beth frowned. "There could be a dozen bodies out there."

"There were two deaths." Adam kept his voice low. The police ripped this place up looking for them. A journalist and an undercover police officer."

"Oh God." Erin shook her head.

"Hunted." Adam glared, remembering the fear that had twisted his guts as the crossbow wielding maniac had hunted him and Ruth like animals. "Ruth saved the day."

"Sounds familiar." Dimitri smiled. A gunshot rang out through the air as Beth flinched.

"I think he's expecting us."

"You don't say?" Erin ducked as another shot rang out. Adam grabbed her, pulling her into the undergrowth as Dimitri flung himself behind a half dead tree. Beth returned fire hoping she had hit the target.

"Starting to get a bit annoying now." Adam ran towards the small bird watchers hut hoping that he'd reach it before Moran shot him or any of his friends.

"Adam's team are coming under fire." Malcolm couldn't keep the concern out if his voice. Ruth bit her lip, listening to the same footage remembering how her and Adam had run through the woods and undergrowth knowing how long they could rely on the trees for cover.

"Any news on Ros and the others?" Harry asked. He was as worried as Ruth but he knew he couldn't show Ruth and the others how concerned he really was.

"Not yet." Calum glared at his computer screen. The hacked CCTV camera the only bit of tech that he trusted since they had discovered the mole was Sophie's ex. Harry nodded once, glaring at the screen.

"Keep me informed." Harry marched toward the Pods. Ruth pushed her chair back from her computer.

"Harry."

"Keep me informed." Harry repeated before leaving the Grid. Ruth swore under her breath before turning back to the computer ignoring the concerned looks of the other desk bound spooks.
