Loved the reviews! Hoping to wrap the story up soon. Thanks for sticking with it!
"OhMyGod!" Caroline screamed, before jumping to throw her arms around her best friend.
Elena and Damon had been home a while now and had just told the others their news.
"Are you okay?" Caroline demanded, pulling back, then looked at Damon, "Is she okay?"
Elena laughed, "Care, I'm fine, I swear. Damon took me to get a check up, everything's fine."
"Oh, good!" The blond sighed, having been worried that something in the past days events might have hurt the baby. She started to ramble about baby names, and clothing ideas when she was interrupted.
"Thank you, by the way," Damon muttered to her, and she looked at him surprised, "The others told me what you did, so, thank you."
She nodded and hugged him too. Damon seemed affronted a little at first, then slowly, hugged her back. Elena stifled another giggle, then accepted hugs and congratulations from the others too.
After everyone had settled, Mason came in announcing that he'd ordered pizza, and that made everyone happy. Damon however, decided that then was a good time to lay down the new law, so to say.
"Guys, we need to talk," he started, knowing that everyone would listen.
"Things around here, they have to change." He looked down at Elena, who smiled encouragingly.
"No more drugs are going to be brought into this house. Nothing illegal at all. You can buy your alcohol, but keep it in your room, or at least put up. No more partying either. There's plenty of night clubs in this city for that." He took a breath.
"If anyone has a problem with that, we can talk, or you can leave, no one's making anyone do anything. But with this baby coming...things will be different around here. Now, I care for everyone here, but my family," he pulled Elena to his side, "Will come first, and my child will not be around anything dangerous, nor will anything threatening be in this house for us to get in trouble with. We got lucky this time, but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Everyone nodded, seeming okay with the idea, Caroline was even smiling.
Kol muttered something about Damon already in daddy mode, and that caused some giggles.
Then Damon kissed Elena's head, and she knew everything would be okay now.
Two weeks later.
"So what time are you coming?" Katherine asked, "Jenna's making a big supper and wants to make sure it's done."
Elena laughed, "Probably be there by four, but you know how these guys are."
She could almost feel Kat rolling her eyes, "Oh, yeah, I know."
Elena smiled again, "But I promise we will be there. Damon took three weeks off work, so we'll be down there for at least that long. Besides, we have to find a lake house."
"Oh yeah!" Katherine noted, "I forgot to tell you, the Johnson's put theirs up for sale. It's only about three miles from ours, around the lake a bit."
"Sounds good, you can show us when we get there." She looked up to see Stefan motioning at her.
"Hold on, I think your boyfriend wants to talk," she joked, and Kat laughed.
"Okay, put him on. I love you, sis."
"Love you too, and I'll see you tomorrow."
She handed the phone over to Stefan, and the two started chatting away.
Elena was happy the two had also been able to work things out. Jenna was a little more tolerant now, especially after hearing everything that had happened, and she'd chosen to be supportive, and to give the Salvatore's a chance. She even offered up the guest bedroom and the couch, so they could come down and stay for a bit, at least until they were able to get the lake house in order.
Elena walked back upstairs, making sure her bag had everything she needed in it, changed into pajama shorts and a tank top, then laid down on the bed.
Soon Damon, who'd been in the bathroom, also getting ready for bed, joined her.
She waited until he was completely succumbed under the blankets before curling into his arms.
"Comfortable?" He asked, and she nodded happily.
"I'm getting everything I've ever wanted, Damon."
He smiled at her. "That's a good thing, Elena...you deserve to be happy."
"It's all because of you," she pointed out.
"I'm just returning the favor," he joked, kissing her nose.
She leaned against him.
"How did the hearing go?" She asked him after a moment. He'd gone yesterday afternoon, and had yet to bring it up.
"They put him away, a fifty year sentence, he'll come up for parole in twenty," he stated, "And Silas didn't make it. Passed away last week in the hospital."
Elena almost felt guilty at the relief his words brought.
"So, we're free of them, for good?"
She asked this so tentatively, it made Damon smile.
"Yes, baby, their gone for good. No one is going to hurt us, ever again."
She kissed his bare chest, letting the happiness overwhelm her.
"God, I love you." Damon sighed into her hair and she looked up into his eyes.
"And that's the best thing that's ever happened to me," she smiled at him.
He leaned into her body, kissing her lips. She moaned against him, then pulled back, giggling.
"I thought we decided to have sex before the shower so we could actually get some sleep tonight," she reminded him, "It's a long drive tomorrow, you know."
He smirked at that, "We'll make Stefan drive," he told her, and she couldn't help but smile when he reclaimed her mouth.
She gave into him, after all, they did have a lot of time to make up for.
As promised, Stefan did drive most of the trip the next day, though Damon stayed awake to keep him company as Elena napped in the back seat.
Damon could feel the excitement coming off his brother, and had to once again, remind him to watch his speed.
"Sorry," Stefan smiled, slowing down.
"You in a hurry?" Damon asked jokingly.
"I just want to see her again, it's been weeks, maybe even months."
Damon shook his head, "It's hasn't even been two months, Stefan."
"Whatever," the younger Salvatore shrugged, "Still too long."
Damon looked back at his sleeping angel, "I know the feeling."
They made the rest of the trip in comfortable small talk, Elena waking up about an hour away from their destination. And soon, she was calling Kat, letting her know that they were in town.
Shortly after, they were pulling into a driveway. Damon took in the place, and could instantly tell why Elena would have liked it.
He grabbed his bag, along with the two she'd brought, as Stefan opened the door for her.
However, his brother's attention didn't linger long on Elena when the front door opened and Katherine came running down the steps. He started toward her, and soon she'd jumped in his arms, and the two were kissing like the world was ending.
Elena chuckled as Damon came up behind her.
Finally Stefan released Kat, and put her down, but still pulled her into his arms.
"I missed you," he told her, and she gripped him harder.
"And I, you." She promised, then noticed Elena behind him.
"Hey!" She quickly jumped over to her sister, the two embracing just as Jenna came outside.
"Elena?" She called, and the younger girl looked up and smiled.
She motioned toward the others to follow her, and started up the walk.
"Hey sweetheart," Jenna took the girl into her arms, just glad to know she was safe. She'd been worried the evening that Kat called her, telling her what had happened, and even more freaked when they returned to find Elena gone. Finally, Stefan had called, giving them a load down of all that had happened.
"How are you?" she asked, pulling back to look at Elena's face.
"I'm good," Elena smiled, and Jenna truly believed it. Her adopted niece did look good. She looked happy, and she'd bet that it had to do with the gorgeous dark-haired man, standing behind her.
"Well, I have supper fixed, why don't we all come in?" she suggested, and the girls nodded, followed by the brothers.
Damon was able to drop the bags off at the door, and look around. The place was nice, simple. Then suddenly a younger boy ran in.
"Aunt Jenna, is it time to eat yet? I'm starving!" He looked up at the guest and blushed, then noticed Elena.
"Lena! Your back!" He ran to hug her, and she wrapped her arms around his little frame.
So that must be the brother, Damon concluded, feeling the smile on his face. The kid did favor both Elena and Katherine.
"Hey, Jer! Yeah, we're all gonna visit for a while," Elena told him.
"Awesome!" He grinned, then turned to Jenna, "So can we eat now?"
And soon enough, everyone was eating. Elena had helped Jenna and Kat set the table and now the food was out and being dug into. Ric also joined the group and Elena found it funny that he and Damon hit if off immediately. The two were talking like old men all throughout the meal.
She and Jenna shared a few glances and smirks. Then once the food was gone, Jenna took all the plates to the kitchen. The chatter was moved to the living room, as there were more comfortable places to sit there.
Jenna took note of Katherine, who was curled into Stefan's side while Ric put on a movie that no one was really watching, and saw how Elena did the same with Damon.
She shook her head, but didn't comment, simply taking her own seat next to Ric.
"Dinner was good," Stefan complimented, and Jenna thanked him.
"Yeah, and we really appreciate you letting us stay here and everything," Damon added, not really sure why he faltered under the look Katherine's aunt gave him. He was use to being able to sweet talk women of almost any age, but something in her gaze told him not to try it.
However, the conversation flowed without a problem and after a few hours, Jenna insisted that Jeremy go to bed, as it was still a school night, but he fought it.
"Everyone else gets to stay up," he complained, but Elena shook her head.
"Nah, Jer, we're all pretty tired. I think we'll be heading to bed too," she stood, and Damon followed her in suit.
"We'll be here tomorrow," she promised him.
He sighed, "Okay, fine." And ran up the stairs, Jenna chasing after him.
Elena giggled, then turned to say goodnight to everyone, hugging Kat, as Damon and Alaric shook hands.
"Come on," she called to him, picking up one of her bags from the front of the door, leaving the others for Damon to grab, then she led him to what was once her room there.
"It's nice," he commented as she dropped her things.
"Yeah, I really liked it."
He looked at the full sized bed, and the small dresser with the topped mirror, and finally the nightstand adorned with a lamp and an alarm clock.
"This is where you stayed?" He asked curiously and she nodded.
"Yeah, right down the hall from Kat. I'll bet you twenty bucks Stefan trys to sneak up to her room, even if Jenna puts him on the couch."
"Hell yeah he will, he's my brother isn't he?"
Elena smirked at that, "Yeah, yeah, Mr. Rebel."
She walked over to kiss his lips sweetly, "Oh, will you run downstairs and get a glass of water, please?" She asked him, pulling back to lay out some clothes to sleep in.
"Sure," he agreed and turned out the door.
Once down the hall he almost ran straight into Jenna. "Oh, sorry," he stated, stilling so she could go around him. Instead, the woman stopped too, looking at him.
"So you're Damon?" she asked, "Elena talked a lot about you."
He nodded, guessing at her tone, "I get the impression that you don't like me very much."
Jenna sighed, "I don't really know you, Damon, so I can't say I like or don't like you, however I know your type. I've dated many of you, and I'm worried about Elena, I care about her, and she's been through so much."
Damon nodded, "I know, Jenna, believe me."
"But she's crazy about you," She stated, and he couldn't stop that smirk from his lips.
"The feeling is mutual," he told her.
"Oh, I know. I see the way the two of you look at each other." Jenna smiled, shaking her head, "I'm not going to contest to the way you feel about each other, but I also know she went through hell for a while. When she was here, she seemed...better, but something was missing. And tonight, she's a completely different person."
Her voice sounded distant, as though she was thinking back, "I was hesitant to let her come here at first, you know, but with Katherine going wild, I didn't know how everything would work out, but when she did come, she was so lost. I'd been so quick to blame her, well, all of you, for what happened to Kat, I never stopped to think that my niece might not have been the only victim. Elena was strong though, I could tell that about her, and she did help Kat get back on track. I'll always love her for that," Jenna looked deeply at him.
"And I know she put on this secure mask a lot, but there were nights she'd cry, thinking everyone was asleep. For a while I didn't know what to think about it, until finally I went to her room, and she told me everything...about you, and Chicago, her life there with all of you. She even told me about watching Katherine fall into it. I could tell the guilt was getting to her, and she hated what she'd left behind, so much, but she loved it too, because it's where you were...and then we found out she was pregnant, and I swear she looked so scared...it hurt to see her that way, she's still so young."
Damon's head hung, "Yeah, I know I've put her through a lot."
Jenna shrugged, "Maybe, but we all make sacrifices for the people we love, Damon, I'm just glad you made the right choice here."
He nodded, "Me too, and Elena's happy. That's all that matters."
She sighed a little, staring down the hall toward Elena's room.
"She'll be a good mother," she commented out loud, and Damon agreed.
"But God, that baby will be lucky if it gets your eyes," she winked at him, and he definitely couldn't stop the grin on his face.
"Elena said the same thing," he chuckled.
"I'll bet!" Jenna laughed, then motioned toward the stairs.
"But it'll be lucky anyway," she added, as they walked down them, "The two of you obviously love each other, and a child needs that more than anything."
Damon nodded again, beginning to like Katherine's aunt a little more now. She did seem to really care for Elena. And he couldn't hate anyone who loved Elena. It just wasn't in him.
He followed her into the kitchen.
"You got a glass? Elena wanted water," he told her, and she dug around a cabinet, pulling one out.
"Here you go," she gave it to him, and he filled it up, and added some ice.
"I should probably take this to her now, if she's not already asleep," he joked, beginning to walk out, then turned to face the older woman.
"Oh, and thank you, for this...and for looking out for her when I...didn't," He added and Jenna nodded.
"That's what family does, Damon."
And he couldn't agree more.
Loved this chapter! Jenna and Damon just had to have a bonding moment!
