Good to Be the King
Sajin Kommamura stepped out of his office and into the courtyard of his division. It was a nice day out, the sun shining overhead and not one cloud in the sky. Sajin looked around and noticed several of his Division members out and about in the courtyard. But amongst them he noticed one that did not look like the rest.
Walking towards him was Head-Captain Hitsuguya. Sajin glanced around quickly to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. Then he looked forward as Toshiro approached him. They exchanged a quick greeting before Toshiro dived right into the point.
"Who are your seated officers, Sajin?" He asked." Do I know any of them?"
"I believe you know Jirobo, sir." Sajin replied." He's my forth seat. The Slicing wind they call him."
"Yes I know him. But he wouldn't make a good officer, that's what I'm getting at." He said. With Genshiro's death and Renji's promotion both Squad's Nine and Six were left without Lieutenants, leaving a great deal of strain on their Captains." If you have any suggestions or ideas report them to me."
"Yes, sir." Sajin nodded. And with that being said Toshiro turned and left the Seventh Division. He always made it a point to go around and visit the divisions. It reminded everyone who was really in power and give him any insight on how the division is being run. Granted he had little to worry about since he trusted the Captains like family who felt the same about him.
Toshiro then had returned to his office, and was sitting behind his own desk. He went through paper after paper, but his mind wasn't totally on paperwork right now it was still on the lack of Officers.
As he mused the though over in his head Rangiku entered the room with a cup of tea in her hand. Toshiro looked at her through the cracks of his fingers.
"I thought this mind keep your strength up." She said handing him the glass.
"Thank you." He said taking the glass and bringing it to his lips. But immediately as the drink hit his tongue he knew something was wrong. The Head-Captain reared his head forward and looked as if he was about to spit his drink everywhere. However right before him was his paperwork and his Lieutenant, so he gulped it down hard so as to not get either wet. Then he wiped his mouth and grimaced as he turned to her." What is in that?!" he demanded.
"I always like to spice my tea with some rum." She said casually." A little buzz helps me get though the day." Toshiro slapped his hand to his face and groaned loudly.
"Head-Captain." Said another voice getting his attention. Toshiro looked up to see Sasakibe standing next to Rangiku." I have the deliveries from the 2nd Division here, sir." He motioned to an envelope in his hands. Toshiro reached forward and took it from him.
"Thank you." He said. Toshiro put the envelope aside and began working on his other documents. He found paperwork a chore when he was at Squad Ten and it was an even greater hassle now at Squad One. But it was a stress he tolerate but it was a stress none the less, and it would often show in his angered writing or narrowing brow. And this was often noticed by his Lieutenants.
"Captain?" said Rangiku." Are you alright?"
"Fine." He said not taking his eyes off his papers. He seemed tense, his neck was stiff and his writing seemed violent. However his words weren't believed and his two Lieutenants looked to each other curiously.
"If you'd like sir." Spoke up Sasakibe." I could brew you up some tea, it'll help you relax."
"No." Toshiro said firmly.
"Or if you want." Rangiku whispered as she left Sasakibe's side and strutted over to Toshiro, leaning over his desk." We can take a break from work and 'fool around'." She pulled her sleeve down revealing some bare shoulder.
"We will do no such thing!" Toshiro said picking his head up and looking at his two Lieutenants standing before him, first Rangiku and then Sasakibe." Your dismissed, both of you." Without another word the two Lieutenants turned and left neither spoke until the office door closed behind him.
"What's up his butt?" Rangiku commented." That's never happened before."
"The General has many pressing issues currently. He-"
"He's never been too busy to turn down sex with me!" She might as well have screamed it since every first division member in the hallway turned and faced their Lieutenants. Sasakibe cleared his throat and ran his hands threw his hair.
"General Hitsuguya is new to the position." He said." In time he will learn to balance his…priorities easier." Thinking the matter was closed he turned and walked away leaving Rangiku behind. But to her the issue was not closed and since she couldn't talk to Toshiro about this openly without facing his wrath, she'd find others to help her.
And those people were the Women's Association.
"So he's been under a lot of stress lately." Rangiku told her fellow members. In past years the Head-Captain was left out of the women's conversations but when Toshiro took over he became a topic of great interest, mostly because Rangiku made it so. "And it's been affecting him a lot lately."
"Like his work?" Rukia suggested.
"Our sex life!" Rangiku yelled. All the women ducked their heads or covered their mouths, most of them blushing.
"In what ways?" asked Matsuri. Rangiku gave the Captain of Squad Five an annoyed look. It was not a happy day for her when the Captain joined their group.
"Go on." Said Captain Unohanna." I want to hear more about this." And Rangiku did just that. They talked amongst themselves but then they talked to others, and then they talked to other people and within an hour everyone in the Gotei 13 knew about Head-Captain Hitsuguya's situation.
A knock at the door suddenly broke Toshiro from his work.
"Come in." he said, not looking up. He heard the door open and floor creaking as heavy footsteps made their way towards him. When Toshiro picked his head up there was Sajin Captain of Squad Seven.
"Captain Kommamura." Toshiro addressed him. IT wasn't very often Toshiro's friend paid him a visit at this time of the day, something was up.
"Good afternoon General." Sajin said with his hands behind his back." I-I heard something's troubling you."
"Troubling?" Toshiro questioned.
"Yes." Sajin pulled his hands from behind his back to reveal a large fluffy pillow." This is for you." He handed it to his superior." I like to put it on my chair, adds some cushioning and lets me sit easier." Toshiro not wanting to appear rude accepted the gift.
"Thank you." He said when he had it in both hands. Then he did as Sajin suggested and placed it on his chair.
"You a very welcome sir. I only hope this helps releases some of your stress." Toshiro looked at him curiously but said nothing on the subject.
"Thank you for your visit." Was all he said. Sajin thinking he'd done what he came here to do nodded and made his exit. Toshiro sat down in his chair and found it much more comfortable than usual.
Rangiku stayed later at Squad Four than she expected. When Captain Unohana heard Toshiro was having troubling she immediately began pecking his Lieutenant's brain for any and all information on the matter.
"And when would you say this started occurring?" asked the Captain. Rangiku pondered for a few seconds, tapping her chin with her finger.
"Not too long after he took the Head-Captain's position." Unohana nodded.
"And when would you say the last time you two were intimate?" Rangiku pondered again.
"Before he took the position." Evidently Toshiro's new position had taken up more space in his life than anyone would have expected.
"And what strange things have you noticed about him?"
"He's just been stressed out a lot. I mean A LOT more than usual." Rangiku told with a flail of her arms.
"Well that's not good. Stress can often lead to many health problems including heart failure, headaches, depression and obesity." Rangiku gasped at all of them especially the last one.
"What can I do?" she asked.
Toshiro was sitting behind his desk in his new comfy chair when there was a loud knock at the door.
"Come in." he said. The door swung open and Captain of the Tenth Division Gosuke Kiganjo lumbered in, his big arms swinging from side to side a large sack in one of them." Captain Kiganjo. "Toshiro addressed him." What brings you to-"
"I heard you were having some troubles." Gosuke said as he stood before Toshiro's desk. He raised his arm up and dropped the bag onto it." So this is for you. Helps me when I'm feeling down." Toshiro looked at the bag with a raised brow, then looked to Kiganjo and back to the bag. He placed one finger in the top of the bag and spun his finger around opening it. The bag dropped and it's contents were revealed, needless to say Toshiro was not happy with what he saw.
"The finniest in all the Soul Society. I grow it myself." He motioned to the pipe attached to his belt. Toshiro turned his head upwards and glared at Kiganjo.
"Captain Kiganjo." He said in a voice of authority." The contents of this bag are highly illegal. You will remove it from my desk and remove it from your division, do you understand?!" Gosuke looked started with determination and went to wide-eyed shock.
"Yes, sir." He nodded his head. With one hand he grabbed the bag from the desk, turned and left." You know if you'd like I can have my bitch pop by and-"
"OUT!" yelled Toshiro. But after Kiganjo's exit it was only a few seconds before he had some more visitors.
Without a knock Captains Zaraki and Soifon marched in and up to his desk. He was about to lecture them on manners but was stopped as Kenpachi spoke.
"We heard about your predicament." He said as he walked up and stood over Toshiro. Soifon made a motion with her pinky finger that got Toshiro's attention." So we thought we'd come over to help."
"Help?" Toshiro said questionably.
"Yes. You know you add tons of things to your usual routine, helps livin things up and keeps it interesting." Said Soifon." Stuff like this." The two began reaching into their pockets and pulling items out and handing them to Toshiro. Items like whips, chains, gags and assorted other items he'd never seen before.
"If you'd like we can show you how to use them." Kenpachi said. Before Toshiro knew it a leather whip was tossed into his hands and Soifon was standing before him bent over.
"Only if this'll help." She grumbled. But this was certainly the last straw. Toshiro had no idea what had been said about him lately but this was the breaking point. His eyes began to glow blue and the two Captains watched as the whip shattered into tiny pieces of ice in his hands. Next thing they knew they were dodging balls of ice as they ran out the door.
"OUT!" Toshiro yelled.
In their aftermath he was left huffing and puffing he was left in a room covered in ice. When his breathing calmed down the ice melted and the room turned back to normal and he returned to his desk.
But right as he sat down and before the pillow could ease his tension there was a knock at the door.
"Oh what is it this time?" He sighed as he looked up. When he did there was Captain of Squad Five Matsuri Kudo." Captain Kudo." He addressed her once he'd gotten over the slight shock of seeing her there. He was at least relieved since he knew nothing strange would happen with her around.
"Good evening General." She addressed him." May I approach?"
"You may." And she did just that until she stood right before his desk, her hands fiddling together. They were both silent as he looked at her, forcing her to drop her eyes." Is there a reason for your visit?"
"I heard you were having some trouble." Toshiro sat back in his chair and crossed his legs.
"Evidently everyone has. Do you know what this is all about?"
"You don't know?"
"I have my theories." He extended one arm out and pointed her in the direction of a vacant chair." Now why don't you be a good subordinate and report to your superior." Matsuri went to the chair and sat herself down across from him, meeting his eyes for the first time.
"Lieutenant Matsumoto said today at our meeting that you've been feeling 'under the weather' lately." Toshiro nodded as his first theory turned out to be the right one." And that got people to talking."
"And what do they say?" She bit her lip for a moment but one stern look from him and his deep ocean blue eyes made her speak.
"Different things. Some lower members of the divisions say you're not fit to lead us." Toshiro's jaw tensed." Others like the Captains and myself worry about your health." Toshiro exhaled a breath.
"Let the lower members talk. I suspect Genryusai Yamamoto had trouble being Head-Captain when he first began. " He said rising from his seat." But none of you should worry about me." He made his way over to a small desk by the window where a pitcher of water and several glasses sat. He poured one for himself and one for her. Then he turned back and handed one cup to her." It's actually the other way around." He went back to his own chair. He sat down in his chair standing tall and firm, his back rested against the chair before he lightened up and spread his legs out.
"Perhaps that's where all your stress is coming from." Toshiro took a sip from his cup.
"I have a lot to be stressed about." Toshiro grumbled after a long drink. He rose to his feet and marched to refill his glass." These days now will determine the future. Both mine and the Gotei 13." He looked out the window and into the city that was his to command." Some will say I can't do it, others will try to take it from him." It looked as if there was a slight twinkle in Toshiro's eyes as he spoke.
"It sounds like you could really use a friend then." Matsuri said as she appeared next to him. Toshiro turned and looked down at her." Someone to help you." He was Leader of all the Gotei 13. He'd fought Quincy, Hollows even other Soul Reapers, he'd stared the Soul King right in the eye and spat at him. There was nothing he feared, nothing he couldn't overcome but he realized that he never acted alone."You can always ask for my help, with anything."
"Anything." Toshiro repeated. Silence filled the room as they stood there looking at each other. Matsuri reached up and grabbed Toshiro's hand and placed something in it. When he looked down he saw a red colored candle.
"It smells like strawberrys." She said." Maybe it'll cheer up when you need it."
"Thank you." Toshiro said. He turned and placed it on his desk." If that'll be all." He said with his back to her.
"Thank you for your time General." She said bowing her head." Good evening."
"Good evening." He said. Then she left. He stood there silent for several minutes strumming his finger along his desk until he decided that his work day was over, and before anyone else could hound him gifts or useless advice he would go home for the night.
He expected his room to be as he left it, clean. But when he pushed the door open to his room he saw rose peddles laid all around the ground and a ling of candles leading to the bed. And on the bed was Rangiku dressed in lingerie which covered next to nothing.
"Rangiku." He said in a voice of stern astonishment." Put on some cloths."
"No." she said immediately. He tensed up.
"A lot has happen to me today. All on account of you. "She rose up from the bed and took a step towards him." So put on some cloths." She took another step." Put out these candles and- AH!" That was when she jumped on him and took him to the ground.
The next morning all of Squad One was gathered in formation at 0800. They snapped to attention when the Head-Captain made his way towards them. Lieutenant Sasakibe stood at the head of the group.
"Good morning, sir." He said. Toshiro did not give the usual reply of a 'Good Morning' back and instead groaned as he rubbed his eyes." Are you feeling alright, sir?" Toshiro groaned and grumbled some more.
"I didn't sleep very much last night." He said. Sasakibe looked away from his Superior and watched as his co-Lieutenant Rangiku skipped past the two of them with a strange smile on her face.
