"Prim, wake up."
It had been a week since Prim and Katniss had met with Coin.
Prim's sleep was consumed by nightmares. Her nightmares main character was Haymitch and her family. Prim was no longer grateful for time to think - thinking became her number one fear. Thinking led to thoughts, and thoughts led to fears, and fears led to thinking of Haymitch and what exactly he was going through.
Prim hated it. She hated feeling so helpless. Prim wished Haymitch was right beside her, telling her what to do. All Prim could do was hope - hope for survival - hope for the demise of Snow - hope for Haymitch. The only thing Prim had of Haymitch was the wooden ring that he had made for her in the arena. Prim guarded it with her life.
The rescue was postponed. Coin told Prim the day after their meeting that the Capitol had figured out that they were the ones that had rescued Prim. The Capitol had also made it known that the guards would double around Haymitch, Johanna, and Enobaria's cells. Prim yelled and fought for the mission to be continued, Coin resisting, insisting that they would end the idea of rescue.
"Prim, come on." Prim stretched out on her bed, sitting up. A knock made her stand, opening the door. Katniss was there.
Katniss smiled at her sister, "Your hair is a nest." Prim stuck her tongue out.
Prim said, "I haven't even gotten ready yet." Katniss nodded.
"Well we're waiting on you. Coin wants to see you again." Prim nodded.
Prim said, "Alright. I'll be ready soon." Katniss nodded, walking away. Prim sighed, shutting the door. Prim took a quick shower, putting worn jeans and a t-shirt on. She braided her hair to the side, not wanting it to have it down in her face. Prim put her shoes and exited the room. Mary and Katniss were in the living room, sitting down on the couch. A military man sat across from them, not Cody.
Once the man saw Prim, he stood and said, "Hello, my name's Boggs. I'll be escorting you, Prim, to President Coin." Prim appreciated that he hadn't called her Primrose.
Prim said, "I know where President Coin's office is." Boggs nodded.
"Coin wanted to meet you somewhere else - at her grandmother's house." Prim was caught off gaurd - Coin's grandmother's house?
They left, without Katniss - she had told them that she needed to help her mother. After about a five minute walk, they arrived at a worn down house. Coin was sitting on the front steps, on a rocking chair, across from an old lady. The old lady caught Prim's eye, giving her a small smile. Prim returned the smile.
Coin stood and said, "It is nice to see you here, Primrose. Please, let me introduce you to my grandmother, Elizabeth," Coin looked over to Boggs, "Thank you, Captain, you are dismissed." Boggs nodded, turning around, leaving.
Before he left, he turned to Prim, and said, "It was nice to see you, Prim. Be well." Prim smiled. Boggs left, leaving Prim and Coin to talk.
Prim walked up the porch steps, in front of Coin.
Coin smiled and said, "Primrose, meet my grandmother, Elizabeth." Elizabeth held her hand out to Prim. She accepted the gesture, putting her hand in hers.
Prim smiled and said, "It is nice to meet you, Elizabeth." Elizabeth patted Prim's hand.
Elizabeth said, "Likewise, dearie," she had a gravelly voice, "I have always wanted to meet you - in person. It is not everyday that you meet the Primrose Everdeen." She said it in admiring way - it was just how she said it unravelled Prim.
Coin said, "Alright, Nana," Prim liked the nickname - her mother called her grandmother Nana, "It's time for your nap," Coin turned to Prim, "Be a darling and help me take my Nana to her bedroom." Prim nodded. Coin grabbed one arm, and Prim the other. The two led Elizabeth to her room, sitting her down on her bed. After Coin bid her goodbye, leading Prim out of the house.
Coin said, "Let me show you something, Primrose." Prim nodded. Coin led Prim into the small market place they had set up - hidden by the forested areas. There were small, worn down buildings with children, six years old at the latest, running around and playing, the women cutting fruits and herbs, and the men off at the factory, building things, getting ready for the war. Coin cleared her throat.
Many people recognized Coin, giving her single nods, symbolizing their respect for her. Once Prim and Coin walked through the small town, Coin led her to a hill, overlooking the town.
Prim said, "It's beautiful." Coin chuckled.
"Why thank you, Primrose, but it is the farthest thing from beautiful. The buildings are worn down, children are playing with rocks and stick, wearing hand-me-downs from their great-grandparents, and people look absolutely filthy." Prim shook her head.
"No, President Coin, it is beautiful how their lives are shaped - how they go about their day. They have no fear of the Hunger Games - no fear of losing their children to the Games. It's a beautiful life you have created for them." Coin nodded.
Coin said, "I'm not the only one," she glanced at Prim, "tell me, what does a person have to have in order to live?" Prim was caught off by this question - where was Coin going with this?
Prim responded, "Food, water, and shelter." Coin shook her head.
"You're wrong," Prim looked at her questioningly. Coin continued, "You have to have friendship - family - love - hope." Prim agreed. There is more to a person than their exterior.
Coin continued, "Friendship, family, but most of all hope helped these people, giving them something to live for." Prim nodded.
"By giving them this chance - you have given them a place to meet with their families and friends - you have also given them hope, by getting them away from the Hunger Games."
Coin said, "I wish. We give the people a choice here - watching or not watching the Hunger Games. A handful of people choose to watch it, including myself. That's how we know of you, Girl on Fire," Prim flinched at the name, "You were the one, not me, that gave my people hope. You defied the Capitol. You were the one that sparked the rebellion," Prim was still confused on where the conversation was going. Coin continued, "If I could have the honor of asking you to become what the people need and want - become the rebellion's leader - become what people will fight for," Coin looked intently at Prim, "Will you become the Mockingjay?"
A/N: I know, a sucky place to end it. But thank you so much for the reviews - thank you to Potterhead97617 for reviewing! :D
