AN: This is one of my favourite scenes in 'Tangled' along with Rapunzel's realisation of who she really is. I just thought it fitted Merlin and Freya perfectly whenever they're surrounded by the floating candles Merlin conjured up for her.

A lot had happened the past few days since she had been captured by the Bounty Hunter. Yet the last thing Freya had expected to happen was to be freed by a handsome young man who cared for her. He helped her to hide; he brought her food and drink as well as a dress Freya dreamed only a princess could wear. Freya's dreams of finding someone to love ended that horrific day that brute's mother placed the curse upon her. Yet as she sat with Merlin in the tunnels under Camelot surrounded by beautiful golden lights which Merlin had created from the candles he had smuggled down to her; Freya never felt so happy or so in love before. Unable to stop herself; Freya began singing to herself.

"All those days wandering alone
All those years outside looking in
All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've been
Now I'm here, blinking in candlelight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
Standing here, it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to be."
Freya sang softly. Merlin who had been imagining how they could run away together; build a house by the lake to live in as well as picturing the look on Arthur's face when Merlin finally yelled those two wonderful words at him. 'I Quit!'; turned and looked at Freya. Freya stopped singing and blushed. Merlin however grinned and took her hand, squeezing it tightly.

"Don't stop," Merlin asked. Freya smiled and continued her soft singing.

"And at last I see the light
And it's like the curse was lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And my fears have somehow shifted.
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you."
Freya reached over and stroked Merlin's face. For a moment they sat in silence; both dreaming about the future they could have. Merlin had magic and if he could find a way of breaking the curse; they could both be free. They would be young, in love and have no reason to fear or hide from anything anymore. Neither of them needed to speak in that moment; they had one another and their love and that was all that mattered. Merlin kissed Freya's hand and began to sing.

"All those days chasing down a destiny,
All those years living in a blur.
All that time never truly seeing
Things, the way they were
Now you're here shining in the candlelight
Now you're here and suddenly I know
If you're here it's crystal clear
My destiny is here and now."
Merlin sang. He meant it; he knew his destiny was marked out for him. But who said he had to do it alone. If anything; his destiny would be even greater with Freya at his side. Just as Merlin knew that Arthur needed Gwen's love to become a good king; so too did he need Freya's in order for him to become Emrys. Together they would be able to overcome anything. He knew it.

"And at last I see the light," they sang, holding onto one another's hands and looking into each other's eyes.

"And it's like the fog is lifted." Merlin sang.

"And at last I see the light," they repeated.

"And it's like the sky is new." Freya claimed, the lights reflecting in the shining of her eyes; they cast shadows on the walls and flickered yet never faded. They seemed to be symbolic of their love; casting light and hope into the respective darkness of their worlds caused by their secrets and fear. Just as the light was able to overcome the darkness, so too would their love conquer any problems they would face.

"And it's warm and real and bright
And the pain has somehow left me
All at once, everything is different
Now that I see you now that I see you,
Now that I see you!"
they harmonised and Merlin leaned over and closed the gap between them; capturing Freya's mouth with his own. In that moment everything was perfect; they were two young lovers with the world at their feet and dreams which were just in their grasp. It seemed like nothing could or would break them apart.

Up until midnight at least.

AN: I always get so sad when I write Merlin and Freya because it just is so tragic; I honestly wish they could bring Freya back somehow. Anyway next up is 'So This Is Love' from Cinderella.
