.Love The Way You Lie.
.[Spin-Off] - Till Death Do Us Part.
Part 1 out of 2.
"You look like you have bitten into a lemon." A familiar figure spoke in a concerned tone, "Kai, is there something wrong?"
Although the retired captain had nodded negatively, Kai's grandfather still wasn't satisfied with the response. He paced himself into the office and he calmly closed the door behind him. Not for one second did he shift his curious eyes away from his grandson, whom was sat at his desk filling out some paperwork. For some reason, Kai had such a bitter energy surrounding his persona today. In fact, the negative energy was so strong that nobody had deemed themselves brave enough to approach Kai. Everyone was frightened of his wrath, especially when his words were more lethal than a shot-gun wound.
"I know that we may not have the best relationship at times, but it's clear to me that you have a problem." Voltaire frowned when Kai slammed his pen onto the desk. "You are not leaving this room until we discuss what your problem is."
"It's none of you business-"
"If someone is bothering you Kai, I can make a phone call and take care of that." Voltaire straightened himself up to look down at his successor. "Because as of right now, I do not think that you are well enough to continue working here."
"Is that so?" The dual haired phoenix wielder raised his head up to reveal the fire that was blazing vibrantly inside his crimson eyes. "Voltaire, are you threatening to fire me?"
"Believe me Kai, I am trying to help you." Voltaire approached the desk to circle his grandson, he was studying him. "Many powerful people within this company are against you right now. They believe that you are incapable of moving this business forwards because you have such an unapproachable attitude. And after how you have presented yourself today, I am beginning to believe what they are whispering to me Kai."
"Give me a break-"
"No." Voltaire barked. He'd dramatically changed his tone of voice. "If you want to be successful in this industry, then you have to be willing to sacrifice everything. There is no 'free time' in this business world! So no Kai, I will NOT give you a break."
Now that the issue had been brought to light, Kai's subconscious traveled back to the trigger of his bad mood – his girlfriend, Pearl.
"It better not be that little nobody that sits at home all day, doing nothing useful with her life." A loud growl cooed from Voltaire's throat when Kai pinched the bridge of his nose and groaned impatiently. "It is, isn't it?! For goodness sake boy! Take back some control in your life and focus on yourself! Leave her before she costs you your entire future."
"Do you honestly think that I haven't thought of that?" By this point, Kai had shot up onto his feet to stand up to his grandfather. He swallowed the last of the saliva in his mouth to extinguish the steam that was mounting up inside his chest. "I too don't want to keep feeling this way anymore. So let me deal with this in my own way."
"I see." Voltaire placed his hands onto his grandson's tensed shoulders to dryly comfort him. "Look Kai, I don't know this Pearl girl like you do. So I strongly suggest that you resolve this issue quickly before I have no choice but to sign this company over to someone else. You have until tomorrow morning to sort your mood out. Now go home before the staff demand your resignation."
"But it felt so real." Pearl's pupils enlarged with fury when she witnessed the sight of Kai walking through the corridor with his bags packed. She picked herself up from the sofa and drifted to the corridor to confront her suspicions. "Are you- Are you leaving me?"
Her voice may have sounded slightly erratic, but it didn't intimidate Kai in the slighest. He just continued his journey down the flat stairs to make his way out to his vehicle. He loaded his belongings into his car and then rushed back up to double check that he hadn't left anything valuable behind.
"Er, excuse me, did you hear me?" The blonde reached out her hand to snatch it onto Kai's wrist. "I asked if you were leaving me!"
The Hiwatari swirled his neck around to unease the tension in his spine. He really didn't want to lose his temper here, but with how provoking Pearl could be, Kai was prepared to switch off his emotions to avoid gas-lighting this scene. After all, like Kai himself, Pearl wasn't the purest angel in heaven.
He snatched himself free from her grasp, then turned briefly to face her. "What does it look like?" He bluntly replied.
Pearl gaped and her figure numbed with shock. She truly couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"I'm tired of your games Pearl. It's over."
"Games?" The brown eyed girl muttered quickly. "Do you honestly think that I made all of this up? I wouldn't lie about being pregnant Kai-"
Despite that Kai didn't fire back a retort to her accusation, the reaction on his pale face had said it all. Naturally, Pearl's heart shattered and she froze in the corridor like a lifeless dummy. All she could hear now was the sound of the doctors voice replay over and over inside her head, she said:
'I'm sorry Pearl, but your scan results are 100% accurate. You are not pregnant.' She said from the other end of the phone. 'If your symptoms consist, then you need to see a mental health therapist. I can give you a number to contact-' Pearl had hung up the phone at this point because she wasn't strong enough to hear another word.
Why did everything feel so real despite that I wasn't pregnant? I had morning sickness! I haven't had a period either. Wait, what if I had lost the baby? My whole world is just disappearing and I just can't find a way to stop it~
"Kai." Tears filled Pearl's view when that last thought voiced itself inside her clouded mind. "Do you think that I lost out baby?"
A loud sigh could be heard from the other room. "I'm just going to pretend that I didn't hear you say that-"
Pearl scolded him ruthlessly, "You really are one heartless bastard! Why won't you believe me!?"
"Nothing you can do nor do will change my mind, so spare your lies for another loser." Kai coldly stated as he stepped into the corridor to make his way towards the front door. "So stay away from the world championships and stay away from me too whilst you're at it."
He didn't spare a second to gaze at his now ex-girlfriend, but Kai did flinch when he registered the sudden sound of a vase smashing up against the wall beside him.
And this is the Pearl that I know - Kai thought to himself as he licked his lips with delight. She really doesn't disappoint, does she?
He wanted to laugh at her pathetic aim, but he had to remind himself that Pearl was just crying out for his attention, so he ignored her and walked out of the door without saying another world.
I am done with wasting my time with you.
"You self absorbent arsehole!" Pearl was breathless, but that didn't stop her from screaming at the top of her lungs. She made sure that Kai could hear her. "I can't believe that you would do this to me! I hate you Kai Hiwatari! You're scum!"
A/N: I was driving home and I was listening to Madonna – Till Death Do Us Part. This song reminded me so much of this fic. Too be honest, I am going back to basics with myself to figure out who I was before I got so lost in this cyber world. I have changed so much that I don't know who I am anymore. However, I have really enjoyed writing this spin-off and I hope you guys thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected twist. Take care and have a wonderful holiday season - Granger~
P.S: I'm sorry if this was badly written, I am a little nervous.
