Duel Identity Part 2

Hey, I'm Joey. Let me sum you up. Mai's got Yugi on the ropes—he's down to 300 life points, while she hasn't lost any. Yugi stares at the field in horror, thinking that as long as Mai has Shadow of Eyes on the field, he can't play any monsters in defense mode. But if he attacks, his monsters lose half their attack when they hit her Mirror Wall. This ain't good. Hold on Yug!

Ella's POV

This is getting interesting. I looked over to see my ever faithful partner in the corner. "Psy?" I whisper into my ear piece. "Yeah?" "Record the duel." "Where are you going?" "A little investigating." I slipped out unnoticed and headed straight for the demon's room.

"Let's see...guitar, books, laptop...What?" Am I in the wrong room? I pulled my staff out of my bag and twirled it around. This is her Magical Energy Trail. Not that there'd be another. I started going back through her stuff. Trying to find something...anything. I eventually found a locket, that contained a picture of her with 6 other girls. The ever-so-famous Winx, I presume. On the other side was a picture of her and that blond boy. Hmm...looks serious. I laughed to myself.

Back to business. I looked through her books. Most of them were spell books. This isn't getting me anywhere. I looked back at the black laptop on her bed. Worth a shot. I opened it up.

Password:

Hmm...What could it...

Password: Demon /Incorrect./

Okay...let's see... I soon recalled something I heard the boy call her.

Password: Oni /Correct/

Piece of cake. Pictures, music...UGH! Where's the stuffs!

I soon found a file marked 'Diary'. "That'll work."

Password:

"Must she have a password for everything?"

Password: Oni /Incorrect/

"Ugh." I thought about it long and hard. It's not Oni, can't be demon, though it must still be something close to her...

Password: WinxClub /Incorrect/

Okay...how about we try in general.

Password: Friendship /Correct/

She's worse than that Tea girl... I started skipping through. "Bingo."

October 15th, 2008. Before I could read any further someone interrupted me. "Can I help you?" I looked over at the 'someone'. "Daniel Rand I presume?" "Yes...Ella?" "Correct." "What are you doing in Latara's room?" "That...is a good question. One I cannot answer." I back-flipped over to the window, opened it and jumped down. I grabbed my staff and wedged it in a hole. Curses!

Let me tell you what's been happening for the past minute. Yugi summoned Catapult Turtle and Brainwashed Harpie's Dragon, turns out it didn't work. It only obeys Harpie Lady. Hence the 'Harpie's' Pet Dragon. Anywho...Mai then used Elegant Egotist and turned 1 Harpie into 3 Harpies. Neat trick, huh? So that's what had happened in the last minute. Let's continue.

Latara's POV

Yugi activated Monster Recovery, which allowed him to put his Catapult Turtle and his hand back into his deck, shuffle, and draw five new cards.

Mai said that each of her Harpie Ladies now has an attack of 2450. "There are only a handful of cards in all of Duel Monsters that can stand up to that, and from the look on your face, Yugi...You haven't drawn one." Yugi will never survive—unless... Yugi played a monster in defense. Mai said it won't work—Shadow of Eyes lures all monsters into attack mode.

But Yugi said, not all monsters, and that's what will save his life points. He flipped over his monster, revealing Mystical Elf. "Shadow of Eyes lures men into battle, but it doesn't work on female monsters."

(A/N Girls Rule 4 Life! Yeah, we do. Uh-huh. Known Fact. *Keeps singing like this*)

Mai said she forgot about that! Téa sighed with relief. He made it with all of his life points intact. But Bakura pointed out that Yugi's not out of the woods yet—it wouldn't take Mai long to destroy Mystical Elf.

Mai's turn, and she used Monster Reborn to revive Harpie's Pet Dragon, now powered up to 2900 attack points by the three Harpie Ladies on the field. Then she used the three Harpie Ladies' X-terminator attack to destroy Mystical Elf, leaving Yugi defenseless.

Mai told Yugi his time had run out. Next turn, she'd eliminate the rest of his life points. And then she'd go on to the finals. Mai smiled. There's nothing Yugi could do against her monsters' attack power. One more turn, and it would all be over.

The next card he drew would decide the fate of so many lives! But what would happen if he drew the wrong card?

Mai said that she'd wipe out whatever card Yugi draws. But Yugi played Swords of Revealing Light! Mai was astonished that he drew Swords of Revealing Light. How can anybody be that lucky? Joey said that will hold Mai at bay for three turns, and buy Yugi some time to find a way out of this mess.

Yugi played...Kuriboh. Mai started cracking up laughing. "Oh no! It's the ferocious 3 toed fuzzball!" She kept laughing. Harpies Dragon looked at Kuriboh and Kuriboh got an angry face on. "I think it want's to challenge Harpie's Pet Dragon!" She kept on laughing. I'm surprised she did fall down.

"Laugh all you want, but don't mistake the Kuriboh for a joke. It's an important step on my way to victory." "Kuriboh couldn't be an important step on the way to anything, except maybe choking a cat." Espeon made a scowly face at Mai. "Ha Ha." I laughed at her. (Espeon) Anyway, she couldn't attack with Swords of Revealing Light on the field, so she drew a card and ended her turn. But soon, she said, Yugi will be history.

Yugi played Monster Reborn to bring back Gaia the Fierce Knight (2300 ATK). Mai wasn't impressed. "I supposes he's an improvement over Kuriboh, but he hardly represents a threat to my Harpies and their supercharged Pet Dragon." She drew and ended her second turn under Swords of Revealing Light.

Téa worried, but Joey told her to keep her cool. He said you can tell by the look in Yugi's eyes that he's not about to give up.

Mai drew."Mai isn't even trying to hide her next move! She's got so much firepower, she thinks she has it in the bag!" I yelled.

Mai's turn ended, and the three turns have passed. Swords of Revealing Light disappeared, and Mai taunted Yugi, saying he didn't get much out of his three free turns. Yugi stared at his deck. "One card—it all comes down to this." Yugi silently said, Joey, Téa, Bakura, Danny, Tristan and I all watched anxiously, while Pegasus chuckled to himself.

Slowly, he began to draw his final card.

I was stunned by the sudden surge of power I sensed from Yugi.

Yugi held up his card and smiled, telling Mai that she put up a good fight, but now the duel ends. "I play the magic card, Black Luster Ritual , sacrificing Kuriboh and Gaia the Fierce Knight to summon the mighty Black Luster Soldier, with an attack power of 3000 points!" We were all astonished—was that really the legendary Black Luster Soldier?

Black Luster Soldier attacked Harpie's Pet Dragon, destroying it, and reducing Mai's life points to 750. "Just like that, my most powerful monster is gone." Joey said, it's outstanding! "For a minute there, I didn't think Yugi would be able to pull it off." Tristan said he didn't think Mai did, either. Mai just stood there, stunned by the sudden turnaround.

Disheartened, Mai laid her hand on her deck. Joey said, no way! Téa asked what happened, and I explained that putting her hand over her cards like that means she surrenders.

"I rather not see my Harpie Ladies destroyed on the next turn. The duel is yours, Yugi." And she started to walk away.

But as she went to leave, Yugi stopped her to thank her. "You told me a duelist can learn more from defeat than victory, and you were correct. But you taught me a lot today. I had to confront my own fears and weaknesses, or I could never have defeated you."

She told him it was nice of him to say that, but it seemed she still had a lot more to learn about dueling and herself. "Maybe the most important lesson is that defeat doesn't have to be forever. You won this duel, but there will be others. I'll meet you in the arena again, and when I do, you better watch out!"

Yugi gave her a thumbs up, and she returned the gesture with a wink.
