Life had been quiet thus far for the Mc'Queen family. Abigail was gaining speed and chasing after her father. Logan was healthier but still staying back most of the time.

Though Lightning was growing worried for Logan who while very intelligent for a young child, didn't seem to like spending time out in the sun at all if he could avoid it.

"Logan? You up buddy?"

Logan looked up before ducking his head back into his book.

"Yes." He said quietly. Lightning went over to him, kneeling in front of his son.

'That a good book son?" He asked.

"Ahuh…"

"Won't it be better outside? I mean it's a great day out…" Lightning tried to coax him out opening his curtains as the sunlight poured in.

Logan hissed and ducked next to his bed, taking his book with him. "Too bright!"

I swear if I didn't know vampires didn't exist for a fact I'd think that he was half one….

"Just leave him to me… " Doc whispered as Lightning sighed giving a nod.

"Alright, you win this time kiddo… But please… Try to poke your nose out at least once today…"

"I make no promises Daddy… I love you."

"Love you too…" The racer headed out as Logan quickly shut the curtains.

"Much better." The six year old sighed before curling up with his book again. Now… Where was I…?

While Lightning adored his son and wanted the best for him… They were quite the opposite at times especially now. Logan preferred keeping to himself reading most of the time instead of running around, chasing after his sister. They still got along just fine, the boy just prefered to be a loner.

Hmph… Who needs sunlight anyway? It's bright enough in here to read by…

Before he realized it, his book was turned down as he saw the unimpressed face of Doc Hudson.

"You know the sun is actually good for you in moderation. Or did you go turning into a vampire on us?"

"Vampires are sparkly pansies. I'm too cool for that... " Logan stuck his nose up in the air a little before giving a sheepish look. "And… I'm not fast so what's the point? I don't wanna be a racer Grandpa…"

"Who said you had to be a racer?" Doc asked sitting on the edge of the bed. Logan cuddled up to his side, hiding his face a little.

"Everyone says Abby and me will be the next Mc'Queen stars… Especially me cause I look like Daddy…"

Doc frowned, stroking his hair. "You don't have to be anything you don't want to be, you know that…"

"Then why doesn't everyone just leave me alone? I just like going it slow…"

"Because they worry… Your father especially… He hates seeing you hurting, you know that…"

"But I'm fine…" Logan pouted moving away. "I'm not a baby anymore!" I mean… I just see ghosts… There's nothing special…

Doc sighed. "You're thinking of the wrong kind of hurting…" He tipped his chin up. "Don't think he doesn't notice you're unhappy."

Logan felt guilty as he gulped. "I… I didn't wanna hurt his feelings…" The boy glanced to the side. "I just… I dunno… I don't like being fussed over…"

"I know kiddo… but just know… he wants you to be happy… He wants you to know it's okay to be you… that it's okay to talk to him about anything… He's your father, he loves you so much and wants the best for you."

"I know… I love him too… I just…" He shrugged sighing. "I guess I just worry he'll think I'm weird if stuff starts distracting me… Remember how much he freaked out when I wandered off last year because I was trying to help that ghost?"

"I remember, I was the one who had to calm him down."

"... I'll try harder not to be stubborn… I'll try harder… I just… I wanna be me… I don't wanna be a racer, or ride horses, I wanna read stuff… I wanna write stuff… Help ghosts… That's what I wanna do… So I don't wanna rev around Willie's Butte a million times a day… That's not bad right?" But I guess sitting in the dark all day reading isn't great either...

"It's not bad in any shape or form… I think just being there by it would be fine with your father. You'd be outside, and more importantly… you'd be with him."

Logan pondered this before nodding quickly brushing his hair out of his eyes when it fell in his face. "Okay… I think I can do that." He smiled. "I can bring my books too right? And… You'll be there too right?"

"Of course kiddo. Just… be you."

Logan hugged Doc tightly. "I will… Thanks Grandpa… I love you." He smiled up at the spirit, feeling better.

Doc hugged him back, smiling. "I love you too Logan…"

The boy grinned before jumping up grabbing his book off his bed and running out. "Last one to the Butte is a muggle!"

Doc shook his head, following after the boy.

At Willie's Butte, Lightning and Abigail were whipping around the turns, laughing their heads off, kicking up dust.

"YEAH!" Abigail shouted, striking a pose like her dad. "KA-CHOW!"

Lightning grinned ruffling her hair. 'That's my girl!"

Logan came to a stop watching them waving. "Hey guys!"

"... Logan!?" Lightning was surprised but he smiled waving back. "Hey kiddo!"

"... Can I try?" I dunno… But they looked like they were having fun… No one said I couldn't try.

"Of course! Right Abby?"

"Heck yeah of course you can try bro!"

Logan grinned before putting his book down and running down to join them. "Betcha I can beat you sis!"

Abigail smirked. "Let's see then."

Logan smirked getting into a ready position. Can't let sis win… She'll get a swelled head!

"Let's sweeten the deal… Winner gets a free favor from the loser! You win I clean your room, I win you reorganize my shelves. Deal?"

"Deal!"

With that they took off, Lightning keeping an eye on them making sure they didn't try any tricks on one another. "Huh… He's pretty fast... " He glanced to the side as Doc made himself visible. "Thanks…"

"He just wanted to be himself... " Doc smirked a bit watching the kids. "Though it seems part of that is speed regardless."

"Yeah… He's a Mc'Queen alright. Just glad to hear him laugh…" Lightning smiled.

He can be himself… Long as he's happy…
