Chapter 25:

Caroline slowly stirred in her sleep, she yawned keeping her eyes closed. She felt good, rested. Slowly her memories from what happened the night before came back flooding in her head and she opened her eyes.

She blinked because of the light that was entering the room and looked around to see that she wasn't in the bathroom anymore.

Had it all been a bad dream? No it hadn't, she was sure of it.

She looked next to her in the bed to see that Klaus wasn't there and she sighed in relief. She looked up and jumped of surprise when she noticed him seated on the couch on the other side of the room looking at her.

Klaus watched as Caroline slowly woke up. Last night he had waited outside the bathroom for what felt like ages waiting for her to calm down before eventually entering it to find her asleep on the floor, curled up in a small ball. He had put her in bed not waking her up and he had spent the night watching her, seated there, on the couch, not wanting to disturb her and not wanting to fall asleep and risking her waking up before him and leaving.

"Did you sleep well?" Klaus asked not moving from his spot.

"Yes." Caroline answered before hesitantly asking, "And you?"

"No, I didn't sleep at all." Klaus admitted and Caroline nodded in understanding, "Do you feel better now that you slept? Because last night you were tired and you said things you didn't mean."

Caroline frowned, "I meant everything I said last night."

"No, you were tired and you didn't know what you were saying. It's not over, Caroline, it will never be. Always and forever, you remember?" Klaus continued.

"Maybe it's not over for you but it is for me, Klaus." Caroline assured trying to sound determined even though it was difficult.

"No, I don't accept it." Klaus said trying to stay calm.

"It's my choice." Caroline exclaimed.

"I said I was sorry, I made a mistake and I said it wouldn't happen again. What do you want me to do?" Klaus asked standing up and walking toward the bed before sitting on its edge to be next to Caroline. He tried to ignore the way she moved her legs to be sure he wouldn't touch her even though it hurt.

"How do I know you won't try to turn me again?" Caroline asked, desperate.

"I told you I wouldn't do it again." Klaus said impatient.

"Do you know how I felt last night?" Caroline asked, "I felt like I used to feel with Tyler." she admitted looking down and missing the repulsion on Klaus' face at what she had said, repulsion for himself.

"I'm not like him. Don't compare me to him, Caroline." Klaus warned angry. But he was angry at himself.

"I said no, like I used to say no to Tyler. And you didn't care, like Tyler didn't care. And I thought...I thought I would never have to beg like this in my life ever again, I thought that now that Tyler is gone I would never have to cry and scream and beg and kick for someone to stop doing something I didn't want this person to do to me. And of all people, I never thought the person who would make me feel so powerless and weak and pathetic again would be you." Caroline's voice was trembling but she didn't cry, she had cried enough the night before. She saw Klaus' knuckles becoming white as he balled his fistd and she looked up at his face.

"I didn't rape you, it's not the same situation don't compare me to him." Klaus raised his tone, "I stopped, I didn't even turn you and I didn't want to make you feel powerless, weak and pathetic, you are not, you are strong."

"It wasn't the same situation but I still said no." Caroline yelled, "And a no, is a no, you don't get to do something to me when I said no."

"Caroline..." Klaus started but she cut him off still yelling.

"And you didn't want to make me feel powerless, weak and pathetic? What were you expecting me to feel when I ran? Because it was the only thing I could do to try to escape you, because let's be honest, I had no chance against you. What did you expect me to feel when you grabbed me and put me onto this bed keeping me from moving? Yes I felt powerless, yes I felt pathetic next to you. And you didn't stop, Klaus. I was the first to stop. I stopped first, I gave up and I stopped fighting so yes I feel weak. I am in no way strong." Caroline continued pointing an accusatory finger at his chest.

"And as if that wasn't enough, I also feel lost. I'm lost, Klaus. I don't understand what's happening to me. I always want to hit people if they anger me. I want to kill them, I tried to kill Elena yesterday and it's not me. I'm not a killer and I don't understand what is happening to me. When I'm angry I lose all control over my body and I do things but I only realize it only once it's done. And I've had enough of all of this." Caroline said and the last sentence came out with a sob.

"I just wanted to protect you." Klaus said as it was the only thing he could say.

"Well, your methods to do so suck." Caroline exclaimed before standing up and walking away from him. She walked toward the wardrobe and took out her dresses that were inside.

"What are you doing?" Klaus asked watching her every move.

"I'm taking my clothes and I'm going back in my old room." Caroline said calmly.

Klaus stood up, "Elena is in your old room. Please Caroline stay here, I'll sleep on the couch."

"I don't want to be in the same room as you." Caroline whispered and for Klaus it would have been the same if she had plunged a stake in his heart. He walked toward her and grabbed her arm turning her around before cupping her face in his hands.

"Do you hate me that much?" He wondered caressing her cheek with his thumb. Caroline was looking straight in his eyes but she didn't answer anything, "I think you don't." Klaus added before bending closer over her before kissing her lips tenderly and she kissed him back bringing her hands in his hair. Klaus broke the kiss and looked into her eyes, "I know you don't."

"I don't hate you. I love you, but I can't trust you anymore and when you are close to me I'm scared you'll snap my neck to turn me and I don't want to always be scared." Caroline explained before pushing him away from her.

"You can keep the room I don't want to be in this room if you are not with me." Klaus announced before walking out of the room not wanting to stay here any longer and watch Caroline leave him. He was so angry at himself, but he wasn't angry for trying to turn her because he had done it to protect her, he was angry for making her feel powerless, pathetic and weak.

"Klaus." Caroline called before he closed the door, "It's your room not mine."

"No, Caroline, it's our room." Klaus corrected her.

"Please, Klaus, stay in this room. Where will you sleep?" Caroline asked.

"Don't worry for me. I just want you to be comfortable." Klaus explained.

"I won't be comfortable anyway, I'll have nightmares." Caroline pointed out and she quickly added scared that Klaus would think she was telling him to stay with her in this room when it was not the case, "Can you leave me alone now?" And with that he closed the door and left.

Caroline went in the bathroom to get ready. Maybe she had been too harsh on Klaus? Maybe she should believe him when he said he wouldn't try to turn her again. She would talk about it with the girls even though she already knew what they would think. Katherine would say that she was right to leave him but she could still have sex with him. Caroline rolled her eyes at the thought. Bonnie would say she would not give her opinion but she would still make it obvious that Caroline was right to leave him and Rebekah would try to find excuses for her brother's behavior.

Caroline stopped in her movements abruptly as a thought crossed her mind. If she wasn't with Klaus anymore, would he start to fuck other girls again? Because she wasn't sure she could handle it, actually she was sure she couldn't. Her thoughts were broken when she heard someone storm into her room and then into the bathroom.

"What happened?" Rebekah asked.

"You could have knocked, I could have been naked." Caroline scolded.

"Caroline, last night Nik tried to turn you even though you didn't want him to. He broke mine and Kol's neck because we tried to help you and if I understood well he also broke Katherine's. But after that what happened?" Rebekah said hurriedly.

Caroline frowned, "He spent the afternoon in the library and when he went to bed I told him it was over." she explained not giving the details.

"You left him yesterday? And what happened this morning?" Rebekah wondered.

"He said he didn't accept me leaving him but I said it was my choice and we fought and he left." Caroline said.

"You two are not together anymore?" Rebekah asked thinking.

"No, we are not." Caroline affirmed trying to sound strong.

"I understand better." Rebekah stated even though Caroline had no idea what she was talking about.

"You understand what?" Caroline asked.

"Nik just left." Rebekah said sitting on the edge of the bathtub.

Caroline's eyes widened, "What do you mean he left?"

"He turned. He is somewhere in the woods in his wolf form." Rebekah explained.

"In the middle of the day?" Caroline exclaimed horrified, "But there are hunters who are hunting wolves in the woods during the day."

"I would worry for the hunters not for Nik if I were you." Rebekah pointed out, "They can't kill him."

"No, they can't kill him but they can hurt him. They have weapons." Caroline stormed out of the bathroom and then out of the room. Rebekah followed her.

"I think he wants to suffer." Rebekah stated with a sad voice. Caroline stopped and Rebekah bumped into her.

"What?" Caroline almost screamed.

"Nik turned because he wants to suffer because he is angry at himself." Rebekah explained.

"You mean he turned hoping hunters will find him and shoot him." Caroline asked horrified.

"No, I don't think it was his way of thinking. Have you ever seen a werewolf or hybrid change into a wolf?" Rebekah asked and Caroline shook her head, "It's painful, it's torture, especially if they don't do it on the full moon."

"What do you mean it's painful?" Caroline wondered.

"Every bones in their body break, twist. Even Nik screams in pain while turning, you didn't hear it because you were too far away." Rebekah explained.

"Why would he do that to himself? It's not a full moon." Caroline exclaimed.

"I told you, I think he wants to suffer for what he did to you." Rebekah repeated.

Caroline started to walk once more and descended the stairs. Klaus would be the death of her. What was he thinking? Making himself suffer. Did everything come with pain for him? Did he think she would forgive him if he made himself suffer?

"Caroline, you realize I won't let you go in the woods, right?" Rebekah asked still following her.

"I have to find him." Caroline said with a little panic in her voice, "Is he stronger in his human or wolf form?"

"I don't really know, why?" Rebekah answered.

"Because Mikael is out there and he wants to kill him." Caroline yelled before opening the front door but Rebekah grabbed her arm.

"I said I wasn't letting you go in the woods." Rebekah insisted.

"Alright, I'll wait here until he gets back." Caroline said as she sat on the front stairs.

"You must be freezing." Rebekah pointed out after a few minutes, she sat next to Caroline.

"I don't care." Caroline announced.

"I don't know when he'll come back, Caroline. I don't even know if he'll come back today. He never turned when it was not a full moon before." Rebekah informed her.

Caroline looked away not wanting Rebekah to see the tear that fell down her cheek, but of course the other girl saw it.

"It's not your fault, Caroline. If he wants to suffer it's because he made a mistake and he wants to punish himself." Rebekah tried to reassure her.

"Maybe I was too harsh on him." Caroline admitted after a few seconds.

"No, I don't think you were. Even him knows you weren't and obviously he believes you weren't harsh enough seeing as he tries to punish himself." Rebekah put an arm around Caroline, "But you know, Nik just wanted to protect you even though I disagree with his ways, I was turned against my will so I know how you must have felt last night. But Mikael will want to kill you to hurt him and if you were a vampire you would be more able to defend yourself."

"Do you think Kol could teach me how to fight?" Caroline wondered looking back at Rebekah.

"Why don't you ask Nik." Rebekah raised an eyebrow.

"It doesn't change anything that I'm here, outside waiting for him to come back. We are still not together. I don't trust him anymore. He could kill me while teaching me how to fight and say it was an accident." Caroline stated and Rebekah looked at Caroline horrified.

"He would never do that. He wasn't able to turn you against your will last night. He won't be able to do it ever." Rebekah pointed out, "He wants to suffer for doing it, he won't do it again."

"Yes, I wasn't thinking about that." Caroline said in realization, "Alright, so Klaus wouldn't turn me. We are still not together."

"Alright, as you wish. We'll ask Kol later." Rebekah agreed, "Just, he is not Nik, he won't be as careful as Nik would be with you."

"Good, I don't want him to hold back, I want to be able to fight against someone who fights, not against someone who is being careful not to hurt me." Caroline nodded determined.

"Alright then." Rebekah smiled and Caroline smiled back at her.

A few hours had passed and Caroline was really freezing now. She decided to go back inside, it wouldn't help to stay outside. She had hoped Rebekah would leave even for a few minutes and she would have run in the woods even though now it sounded stupid. What would have she done once in the woods anyway?

"Let's go back inside." She said and Rebekah nodded seeming happy to finally go back inside.

"You were waiting for me to leave weren't you? So you could run in the woods." Rebekah said smirking.

Caroline sighed, "Yes, but I just realized how stupid that would be so I changed my mind."

"Good." Rebekah said smiling as they walked back inside.

As soon as they were inside they were met by Elijah who looked at them questioningly.

"We were outside, Caroline wanted to go in the woods to get Nik so I stayed out with her not wanting her to do something stupid." Rebekah explained and Caroline hit her with her elbow.

"Niklaus will be alright, Caroline." Elijah said intending to reassure her.

"There are hunters and Mikael out there so you can say as much as you want that he is going to be alright but I will still worry." Caroline said nicely smiling at Elijah with a weak smile.

"I understand your point of view." Elijah said and Katherine stormed in the room. Katherine couldn't enter a room normally, she had to make herself notice.

"Caroline, I was looking for you." She exclaimed sounding panicked.

"What is happening?" Caroline asked a little scared.

"You are not seriously asking that. Last time I saw you Klaus was attacking you." She said dramatically.

"He wasn't really attacking me." Caroline said with a small voice.

"Excuse me but I was alerted by your screams, you were asking for help and you sounded very scared. When I arrived he was holding you ready to throw you on the bed and you were screaming and kicking and I don't know what he was going to do to you, but you were asking him not to kill you and Kol and Rebekah were lifeless in the corridor so yes he was attacking you." She said not breathing once and taking a large breath at the end.

"He wanted to turn me." Caroline explained.

"Oh that bastard." Katherine exclaimed.

"Katerina, please..." Elijah started but Katherine cut him off.

"Don't start, Elijah. You didn't even try to help her." She growled and Elijah looked at Rebekah to see her reaction at the way Katherine was talking to him.

"I know you are with Katherine for a long time now, Elijah, don't worry." Rebekah said chuckling.

"What made him stop? Why didn't he turn you in the end?" Katherine wondered.

"I don't know, he couldn't do it." Caroline said looking down.

"Don't tell me you already forgave him, Caroline!" Katherine yelled, always the dramatic one.

"No, we are not together anymore, it's over." Caroline announced and Elijah looked taken aback for a second but he quickly went back to his serious self.

"You left him?" Katherine asked surprised.

"I left him." Caroline confirmed.

"What about sex? Will you still have sex with him?" Katherine wondered.

"Katherine!" Caroline exclaimed blushing, "No, I won't sleep with him if we are not a couple."

"It's going to be hell." Katherine sighed.

"What?" Caroline asked confused.

"He is going to be insufferable if he doesn't get laid." Katherine clarified and they all rolled their eyes. Caroline even caught Elijah rolling his eyes.

"I think there are enough women in this castle, he'll find a way." Caroline said sharply. Katherine raised an eyebrow not believing a word of what she was saying.

"You'd let him touch other women?" She wondered skeptical.

"We are not together anymore I don't have a word in it." Caroline said trying to sound as if the thought wasn't enough to hurt her deeply.

"There might be a lot of women here but the only one he wants doesn't want him it seems." Rebekah declared.

"I'm out of this girl talk." Elijah announced throwing his hands in the air in defense before leaving the room.

"Can I tell you something Caroline?" Rebekah asked. Caroline nodded so she continued, "You can ask any vampire you want, our emotions are heightened. When you love it consumes you and even destroys you sometimes, when you are angry you are furious, when you are sad you are devastated. It's so strong that a lot of vampires decide to turn off their humanity so they don't feel anything anymore. And to be honest, I'm sure that if Nik could he would turn it off right now but he can't because it only works for young vampires. His love for you is stronger than you can imagine and you are his mate, it's even worse, I or Katherine can't even imagine how strong his love for you is."

Caroline nodded understanding, "Are you trying to tell me I don't love him as much as he loves me? I love him Rebekah, more than anything."

"No, it's not what I'm trying to say, you love him as much as you can love him I'm sure of it." Rebekah reassured her.

"Life is so much easier without emotions." Katherine pointed out.

"You turned it off before?" Caroline asked surprised.

"Of course I turned it off. Almost every vampires turned it off once in their vampire life." Katherine stated.

"Not us. Not only are we old but we are the originals and we can't turn it off, not even after our transition." Rebekah said.

"Klaus does, or at least did before Caroline, a pretty good job at looking like a vampire without humanity." Katherine said amused.

"Nik doesn't care about anything except family and Caroline. When you are a vampire for so long you sometimes forget how it is to be human." Rebekah explained.

"I'm going to change." Caroline announced not wanting to talk about this anymore. Both Katherine and Rebekah nodded and Caroline left them to go back in her and Klaus' room.

At the end of the day Caroline started to worry seriously seeing as it was dark outside and Klaus had yet to come back. Yes she had left him, yes they were not together anymore, but she still worried for him. She didn't want him to suffer, especially not if it was for her. Of course it was only Rebekah's theory, that he wanted to suffer because of what he did to her. But if it was true, it was not what Caroline wanted.

Something made her smile though. Today Caroline had learned that Elena couldn't leave the slave quarter and Damon had left during the night. She didn't have anything against Damon, it was more because Elena was alone that she was happy.

She was supposed to go to bed but she refused to do so until Klaus came back so she would take things into her own hands. She walked toward the front door and opened it. Just as she did, Kol and Rebekah appeared next to her.

"What do you think you are doing?" Rebekah asked disapprovingly.

"I'm going to search for Klaus. I've had enough now." Caroline said determined.

"Well then, Bekah and I will accompany you." Kol agreed.

"What? Kol are you crazy? Nik will kill us if we take her into the woods." Rebekah exclaimed horrified.

Caroline ignored Rebekah and turned toward Kol as they started to walk outside, "I was wondering if you could teach me how to fight."

"Of course, darling. You just had to ask. I'll teach you how to kick my brother's ass." Kol exclaimed happily and Caroline smiled gratefully. Soon enough Rebekah was following them even though she didn't agree with it at all. They reached the woods and stopped walking looking up at the trees for a few seconds not really knowing what to do.

"What now?" Rebekah asked annoyed.

"Klaus?" Caroline screamed. Rebekah and Kol both turned toward her raising an eyebrow, "What?"

"It's a wolf not a dog." Kol said amused.

"Well, at least I tried." Caroline pointed out before yelling again, "Klaus?"

They waited in silence a few minutes and nothing moved, Caroline sighed in desperation.

"Maybe I should hurt you, he would come." Kol said not intending to really do it of course.

"Niklaus Mikaelson you bring your ass over here and you better have your tail between your legs when you do." Caroline yelled looking at the woods angrily now. And Kol burst into laughter.

"Stop laughing at me, Kol. Let's go back inside. I'm not going to freeze all night just because mister decided he didn't want to come back. I already caught a cold from staying outside this morning." Caroline said turning around and starting to walk away. Kol and Rebekah did the same.

They all stopped when they heard a growl behind them. They turned around to see a large wolf looking at them just at the entrance of the woods. Caroline swallowed looking at Klaus. She didn't remember him being that large and scary.

"You don't have your tail between your legs but I guess it will have to do." She said more to herself than to anyone else.

She started to walk once more toward the house and Klaus followed in his wolf form. Rebekah hurried toward Caroline terrified.

"It's following us." She half yelled half whispered.

"He better be following or I'll kick his ass." Caroline said with a strong voice and a loud growl resonated behind her, "Alright, maybe I won't kick his ass, I'll try to be nice, I'm not sure he wouldn't hurt me in this form." She said with a small voice this time.

Kol was now next to Rebekah and Rebekah next to Caroline, so no one was on the other side of Caroline, and Klaus came next to her walking side by side with her. Caroline's heartbeats fastened, she was not really comfortable with Klaus in this form, lately she was not even comfortable with him when he was in his human form anyway. Klaus came even closer and put his head under Caroline's hand so she was touching his fur. She pulled her hand away abruptly looking down at him. If he thought that she would touch him and take advantage of his wolf form he was wrong.

"Don't take advantage of this form." She said between her teeth, "I'm still mad at you and we are not together anymore."

Klaus growled and showed his teeth menacingly and Caroline took a step closer to Rebekah taking a step away from him at the same time. He was pretty scary in this form, she didn't really want to end up being his meal. Klaus came back close to Caroline once more not growling anymore, he did not want to scare her, he would not hurt her. Caroline looked up acting as if she was ignoring him but put her hand on his fur. Klaus pushed his head against her hand and she turned toward him once more.

"Being that close to and touching a wolf is incredible. Don't get your hopes up." She whispered.

"You know I think you shouldn't talk to him about you two not being together anymore while he is in his wolf form." Rebekah recommended taking a step away from Caroline perfectly knowing her brother didn't recognize her in this form.

They entered the castle and Klaus stayed next to Caroline the whole time. Katherine choose that moment to arrive with Elijah and they both looked at Klaus and then Caroline with horrified looks. They looked like a cute couple horrified expression on their face.

"Caroline you should not bring Niklaus in his wolf form inside the house. It is too dangerous." Elijah commented putting himself in front of Katherine protectively.

"Wait, that's Klaus?" Katherine exclaimed, "I have to admit he is pretty big and scary. Oh Caroline you look like a Queen with your wolf next to you waiting for your order to attack."

"I guess it's a compliment, thank you, Kat. But I have to admit I'm not too comfortable with him like this." Caroline admitted.

Klaus started to move forward once more seeming to forget Caroline and growling looking at his siblings and Katherine that were in front of him. He moved toward them menacingly never taking them out of his sight.

"Caroline call him back." Rebekah whispered as if Klaus couldn't hear her.

"I don't know how , it's not a dog." Caroline said panicked, and she put her hands on her mouth in horror as Klaus jumped on Kol and they both landed on the floor.

Klaus was growling showing his teeth and there was drool falling on Kol as this one was trying to push the wolf off of him.

"Klaus!" Caroline screamed and he didn't move, "Stop." She screamed again and he looked up leaving Kol just enough time to push him away and stand up joining the others that had simply been watching the scene, happy they were not the ones Klaus had attacked.

"Why isn't he turning into his human form again?" Caroline asked desperate.

"We don't know how it works when he turns when it's not a full moon. I guess he has to want to." Kol said curtly rubbing his clothes angrily.

"Klaus sit." Caroline exclaimed pointing a finger at him and he looked at her with a mean look, "Alright, don't sit. I was saying this for you so you would be comfortable." Caroline said uncomfortable. What was she supposed to do?

"Oh that's enough now! I don't want to play anymore." Caroline yelled toward Klaus, "You and I, it's over and you need to understand it and it's not because you are in your wolf form that I will be sweet with you. Turn back into your human form."

Klaus growled showing his fangs once more but this time he directed his anger toward Caroline and he approached her slowly and menacingly but Caroline didn't budge, she even crouched down to be at his level, face to face. It might be a wolf in front of her but inside that wolf it was Klaus.

"Caroline, I think you really shouldn't do this." Rebekah warned.

Klaus was now just in front of Caroline and his muzzle inches away from Caroline's face, "I'm not scared of you, Niklaus Mikaelson." She said looking at him straight in the eyes. He kept growling and showing his fangs menacingly, "What are you going to do now? Are you going to attack me again, like you did last night? Maybe you are going to kill me in your wolf form and then tell me you didn't have control." She yelled getting even closer to him. "I am not afraid of you." She whispered menacingly.

Klaus darted his tongue out and licked Caroline's face which took her by surprise and she fell backward on her butt. She started giggling as Klaus continued to lick her but when she heard the disgusting sounds the others were making she tried to be serious again.

"No." She said but not really firmly and he stopped a second before starting again and she giggled a little before remembering that they weren't together anymore, not that she really had forgotten but what can she do when he is in his wolf form? She loved wolves and it was her dream to get close to one, "No." She said once more but this time she kept her serious.

Klaus took some steps away letting her stand up and she turned toward the others to see that they were looking at her with disgust on their face.

"What? It's Klaus." She defended herself, "And I had a little moment of weakness but it won't happen again."

"If you have moments of weakness when he is a wolf I doubt you two will stay single for long." Katherine scoffed.

"You'll see." Caroline said before leaving the room. They all looked at the wolf in front of them wondering what his next move would be but he left the room and went back outside. He came back a few minutes later naked like the day of his birth and they all opened their eyes widely in shock.

"I think I prefer you as a wolf." Katherine pointed out, "Nice package though. Caroline is going to miss that" and with that she left the room. Like they all did.

"What? Is it the first time you see a naked man?" Klaus yelled after them amused but his amusement soon disappeared when he turned his head toward the way Caroline just took off to.

He started to walk toward their room perfectly knowing that that was where she was. He was glad he crossed path with no one on his way seeing as he was completely naked. He arrived in front of the room and entered it without knocking. As soon as he entered his eyes met Caroline's and she looked at him up and down before walking toward the wardrobe, taking trousers out of it and throwing them at his face before facing away from him.

"It's nothing that you haven't seen before, sweetheart." Klaus stated.

"Oh yes, and I guess you were proud to walk naked in front of Katherine." Caroline snapped keeping her back to him.

"Is it jealousy I hear?" Klaus asked playfully and Caroline turned around facing him abruptly but he didn't let her say a word, "Why do you care anyway? We are not together anymore." he said curtly. He approached her to be just in front of her, he had put his pants on while talking to Caroline when she still had her back turned to him.

"So what? I left you yesterday and you are already going to see other women?" Caroline exclaimed sharply.

"I don't see what the problem would be in that, I am a man after all, I have needs and you are not offering me your body anymore so..." Klaus said but was cut off when Caroline slapped him forcefully across the face. When he looked back into her eyes they were shining from the tears that were filling them. His chest tightened, he had hurt her again, was it all he was able to do? But why did he feel bad when it had been his intention to hurt her? He had perfectly known it would hurt her if he said that but of course he didn't believe a word of what he had said.

"I'm sorry." She apologized as soon as she let her hand drop next to her. She rubbed her hand and tried to walk past him but he stayed in front of her keeping her from doing it.

"I deserved it." Klaus admitted.

"No, you didn't deserve it. You are right, you have all the right to see other women." Caroline continued to apologize.

"I don't want to see other women though. I want you." He announced with a nice voice, "And I deserved the slap, Caroline. What I said I said it with the intention of hurting you."

"No, you didn't deserve it." Caroline repeated, "You don't deserve to suffer for what you said, or for what you did, at least no physically, Klaus. You need to take that idea out of your head."

"I don't want to disappoint you, love, but your slap wasn't really painful." Klaus pointed out.

"Why did you turn?" Caroline asked looking up into his eyes.

"Because I wanted to clear my mind and to run." Klaus answered, "Why?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to know." Caroline lied.

"I'd appreciate you not treating me like a dog when I'm in my wolf form." Klaus said after a few seconds of silence as Caroline eventually walked past him.

"I would appreciate you not turning into a wolf without warning me. And I did not treat you like a dog." Caroline defended herself.

"You ordered me to sit." Klaus said raising an eyebrow.

"I'm sorry but I don't know how to act around a wolf." Caroline exclaimed, "And you attacked Kol, and I didn't know if you would have hurt me."

"I wouldn't have hurt you." Klaus hurriedly said, "I recognize you when I am in my wolf form and the only thing I can think about is to protect you at all costs. I would never hurt you."

"Yeah, well, I heard that before." Caroline scoffed not looking at him.

"Caroline look at me." Klaus ordered but she didn't, "Look at me." He said a little more dryly. Caroline looked up and met his eyes with hers, "I was a fool to think I would be able to turn you against your will. I realized that even if you would have been willing I don't know if I would have been able to do it. When I was about to snap your neck I just couldn't do it. I listened to your heartbeats and then I imagined you with no heartbeats, lifeless, just a body, and even though I knew it would last only for a few hours I couldn't do it." Caroline didn't say anything.

"And you know what? I'm not sorry for trying because I just wanted to protect you and it kills me that I wasn't able to do it. I'm sorry for making you feel powerless, pathetic and weak and I'm sorry for trying to turn you in that way and not making it less scary for you." Klaus explained.

"And I turned to make myself suffer." He eventually admitted, "I wanted and still want to suffer for the way I made you feel. I want to suffer because you are right, I'm no better than Tyler."

"You don't deserve to suffer." Caroline eventually said, "I was so worried about you. What were you thinking? There are hunters out there and Mikael. And don't tell me I should worry for the hunters and not for you, they have weapons."

"I'm glad I turned. It was more painful than I imagined it would be but, I'm glad I did." Klaus insisted.

"If you ever decide to turn again when it's not a full moon you better not do it because of me." Caroline raised her voice, "I don't want you to suffer for me. I stayed outside all morning waiting for you and I caught a cold. I hate when I catch a cold, I always catch illnesses so easily." She complained.

Klaus remembered Caroline's father telling him Caroline was always weak when she was little and he thought it had changed but it seemed it hadn't, seeing as Caroline just said it.

"Did you tell Bonnie?" Klaus wondered frowning in worry.

"Oh it's a cold, Klaus, I'm not going to die." Caroline scoffed.

"I saw people die from a cold before." Klaus announced.

"I know I'm weak but not that much." Caroline said crossing her eyes in front of her chest offended.

"You are not weak, you are strong, Caroline." Klaus assured, "I just want you to tell Bonnie so she gives you some tea."

"Alright then. I'm going to find her." Caroline accepted and walked toward the door of the room to leave.

Klaus watched her leave and he felt a pain in his chest. It was the first time in a long time that they talked to each other not kissing once, not even touching one another, not even her hands, her hair, her cheeks, nothing. And he hated it. He wanted to be close to her, he wanted to have her in his arms, but he had screwed up.

When the night came Caroline found herself alone in their big bed. Dinner had been awkward to say the least. Klaus and Caroline had sit far from each other and Caroline hadn't talked to him once. Everyone around the table had been trying to act as if they were comfortable but it had been obvious they hadn't. Happily, Elena hadn't been here, she couldn't attend to the dinners with them anymore, they had tried it once and it had been a disaster.

To be honest, Caroline had felt as if she had nothing to do there. When she had been with Klaus it had been normal for her to attend dinners with them, but now that she left him… was she still supposed to attend with them? They were having dinner together, they were a family and Caroline wasn't a part of it. It hadn't helped that Katherine and Bonnie hadn't been there, Stefan had, but she never really talked to him before. She knew he was Klaus' more trusted friend and she had caught him looking at her more than once.

Since when did someone attend the dinner of their ex lover's family, of course she felt apart now that she wasn't with him anymore. But Rebekah had insisted so she had attended. She had felt Klaus' eyes on her all dinner long but she didn't dare to look at him once because she knew that if she did she would see the pain on his face. What was she supposed to do? She wanted to be with him but she couldn't forgive him that easily. It couldn't always be that easy. They were always fighting anyway, so maybe a break was what they needed. Maybe they weren't good together. Maybe they loved each other too much for their own good.

She looked at the roof as she was lying on her back in the bed and sighed before looking next to her where Klaus should be. She really was uncomfortable, she had nothing to do in his bed if they weren't together anymore, he was the one supposed to be lying in this bed but she knew that if she fought him on this he would get angry once more.

She sat up and climbed off the bed to go in the bathroom, she took the shirt he had worn earlier and put it on smelling him. She went back to bed and lied down on his side of the bed to smell his pillow as well. He smelled so good. She didn't know where he would sleep tonight, all she knew was that he had insisted for her to stay here. She went back to her side of the bed taking his pillow with her and hugging it not letting go of it, and she slowly drifted off to sleep.

An hour later Klaus entered the room quietly being careful not to wake her. He looked at her and smiled when he noticed she had his shirt and his pillow, he was obviously not the only one missing her, she was missing him as well. He watched her as she pushed her head deeper in the pillow in her sleep. He watched her for hours and when he noticed she started to have a bad dream he came closer, slowly caressed her cheek whispering sweet words like he always did when she was having bad dreams, she wouldn't even notice it and wouldn't know he had been there all night.

"Ssh, it's okay, love. I'm here." He whispered and a strangled sob escaped her lips.

"Klaus." She called in a whisper.

"Yes, I'm here." He said staying next to the bed, next to her, "I love you."

And every night for the following week it would be the same. Klaus would stay up all night and stay by her side watching her sleep. They almost never spoke during the day, she avoided him most of the time, she stopped attending dinners to be sure she wouldn't cross path with him. She looked at him worried sometimes but he knew it was because he looked exhausted, that was what happened when you didn't sleep for an entire week. He didn't feed much either anymore, the other's blood was fade and tasteless next to Caroline's and he had no real pleasure in feeding safe from the moment he would hear his victim's heart stop.

Mikael hadn't made a move yet, he had stayed hidden, it was as if he wasn't there. The only proof that he was there were all the hybrids Klaus had turned and positioned around the castle and in town. Poor Elena, she must be drained, not that he really cared.

Caroline had thought a lot, Klaus trying to turn her against her will had made her think about her life. She wanted to make her own choices. She would think more about herself and less about what Klaus and the others thought about her, if she decided to do something even though someone didn't agree she wouldn't care, she was her own person and she could take her own decisions.

Of course she was missing Klaus to not end, she wanted him, she wanted to be in his arms and to kiss him so badly. And to be honest she also missed sex. It was not what she missed the most of course, it was him, just all of him that she missed. Katherine kept telling her that she could have him sometimes, just for sex. But Caroline didn't want him for sex even though she wanted him inside of her a lot. Since the first time she had had sex, it was the first time she stayed that long without having sex, who would have thought she would miss it?

Caroline walked in the corridors and entered the library to find Katherine there doing God knew what. Elijah hadn't talked to Klaus yet about them so she still had to act like a slave but she was never doing chores, it looked like she did but Caroline was sure Katherine had never cleaned a single thing in this castle of her whole life.

"Caroline, where is that smile I love so much?" Katherine wondered turning toward Caroline.

"Just here." Caroline said forcing a smile on her lips and it looked awful.

"Might I remind you that you were the one leaving him?" Katherine stated raising an eyebrow.

"I know and I'm glad I did. It feels good to be alone and not to have to explain all of my actions to him. He is too much on my back, never leaving me any choice. He tries to make me feel like I'm the one choosing most of the time but I'm not stupid, I can tell when it's my choice or when it's his." Caroline rambled.

"How is life without sex?" Katherine asked changing the subject.

"Did you ever have a conversation without saying the word sex or making an allusion?" Caroline asked exasperated.

"It's not my fault if your face screams 'I want sex'." Katherine defended herself and Caroline scoffed, "Have you thought about having sex with another man?"

"What? No." Caroline exclaimed outraged, "No, what is wrong with you?"

"Oh don't react like this, I was just proposing." Katherine rolled her eyes, "You can still touch yourself."

"I won't touch myself, it's inappropriate." Caroline declared.

"You are a woman, Caroline. You touch yourself if you want to give yourself pleasure. You do whatever you want with your body and you don't care about what others think of it. I touch myself sometimes and it's very enjoyable. Do you really think Klaus stayed an entire week without touching himself? Please." Katherine said dramatically.

"I don't think it would work. It's his hands, he does something and when he touches me it's incredible." Caroline said sighing in nostalgia.

"You just close your eyes and imagine it's his hands on you and not yours." Katherine explained, "What are you still doing here?" She asked after a few seconds of silence.

"What do you mean?" Caroline asked confused.

Katherine showed her hands moving her fingers, "I think you have things to do."

"I'm not going to do this right now." Caroline exclaimed.

"Of course you are, you are bored." Katherine said as if what Caroline had said was absurd.

"I want to go back with him you know." Caroline said in a whisper.

"I know, Caroline. I'm not stupid I have eyes. Let him come to you and make the first move." Katherine advised.

"I don't know if he will. He didn't even try to kiss me or touch me once in an entire week." Caroline said disappointed, "I was really mad at him for what he did and I still am but I want to be with him more than anything."

"Of course he didn't try, he doesn't want to force you into anything after what happened. And you avoided him all week, maybe you could show him that he can try something by avoiding him less." Katherine suggested.

"I didn't forgive him yet." Caroline admitted.

"I'm lost. You just told me you wanted to be with him." Katherine said confused.

"I want to be with him, and I'm trying to forgive him, I understand why he did what he did. But, I've been abused before and I was so scared and I felt like it all happened again." Caroline said her voice cracking at the end of her sentence as she tried to keep the tears from falling.

"I know you were scared." Katherine said with a nice tone of voice, "I saw it, you were terrified."

"But I love him." Caroline said her lower lip trembling as tears fell down her cheeks. Katherine approached her and took her in her arms. It was the first time Katherine took her in her arms that way and Caroline was glad she did. She sobbed on Katherine's shoulder encircling her waist with her arms.

The doors opened and Klaus entered at that exact moment. His eyes landed on Caroline as she pushed Katherine away hurriedly and dried her tears before rubbing her nose with the back of her hand and sniffling in an unladylike manner. She looked him over, he was pale he had dark circles under his eyes, he looked exhausted but of course she didn't know it was because he didn't sleep at all. Fortunately he was a vampire, a human wouldn't survive that long without sleeping.

Caroline cleared her throat, "Do you feed properly?" She wondered.

"Yes, I do." Klaus answered wondering why Caroline had been crying seconds ago, "Is something wrong?"

"No, everything is alright." Caroline assured a little hurt, did he not guess why she was crying? Did he think she would be alright without him? "Now, if you would excuse me." She said before leaving the room leaving Klaus with Katherine.

Katherine lost her nice expression and a dark one took over her features, "Is something wrong? Really? Is something wrong? You've got to be kidding me." She exclaimed.

"I'm not in the mood to deal with you." Klaus snapped.

"Yes something is wrong. You know what makes her cry? She cries because she is trying really hard to forgive you and she is not doing well without you. She cries because she misses you, but do you even understand how you scared her? She was abused in all the possible ways by Tyler. How could the idea of turning her against her will could even cross your mind?" She raised her tone.

"You think I don't know that? You think I don't realize that now?" Klaus yelled angrily.

"A part of me wishes she will forgive you because she is miserable without you. But the biggest part of me hopes she won't, because what you did was wrong and it was low." Katherine spat and in a second her back was pressed against the wall as Klaus' hand gripped her throat forcefully.

"Is it what you say to her? I truthfully hope for you and for my brother that you don't share your ideas with Caroline because if I learn that she can't forgive me not because it is her own choice but because you told her she shouldn't forgive me I will kill you." Klaus growled.

Katherine's eyes opened widely, "Your brother?"

Klaus chuckled darkly, "Elijah talked to me about you this morning. But that's not the point, you will talk to Caroline and you will tell her she should forgive me." Klaus let go of her and took a step back.

"What? Do you realize that once more you are trying to take her choice away from her?" Katherine exclaimed outraged.

Klaus tightened his lips in a thin line balling his fists realizing it was true, "Alright, don't tell her that but don't tell her she shouldn't forgive me and let her make her own choice."

"You want to know what I told her? I told her I would support her no matter what choice she makes and that's what you should have done since the beginning. And I also told her that she could do whatever she wanted to do and if she wanted to she could even have sex with another man now that she is not with you anymore." Katherine provoked him but at her surprise he didn't hit her or hurt her.

Klaus growled, "Be careful, Katherine. Don't play with fire, you might get burnt." And with that he left the room.

When Caroline left the room she directly went to her and Klaus' room. She entered it and closed the door behind her before sitting on the edge of the bed closing her eyes. She hadn't planned on Klaus catching her crying but she didn't really care. What she was worried for was how he looked tired.

Mikael was somewhere ready to attack even though they had no idea when he would do so seeing as he hadn't made a move yet. And seeing how tired Klaus seemed she doubted he would be at his best to fight him if Mikael decided to attack now.

And there was another problem, when she had seen Klaus she had wanted so much to run in his arms and kiss him and touch him. Maybe she should try what Katherine had said, that way she would take Klaus out of her system for at least a few minutes. She wasn't thinking about sleeping with another man of course, she was thinking about touching herself.

Caroline looked at the door quietly for a few seconds before standing up and locking it. She walked back toward the bed and sat on it, her back against the head of the bed. She put her hands awkwardly on her stomach over her dress before closing her eyes and trying to imagine it was Klaus' hands. She went up and cupped her breasts over her dress but Klaus' hands were much bigger and his movements weren't like hers and it wasn't the same at all. She decided to ignore it and try even more to imagine it was Klaus' hands on her and not hers.

She massaged her breasts over her dress before stopping to unfasten her laces as best as she could on her own. Once it was done she brought her dress a little down and started to touch her exposed breasts. She couldn't take the dress off completely because she hadn't been able to completely unfasten her dress but it would be enough. It was a little awkward to think that she was touching herself but she forced herself to imagine it was Klaus even though the warmth of his body close to hers wasn't there, actually it was quite cold.

She pinched her nipples and she moaned as she felt pleasure and it took her aback. She hadn't thought it would really give her pleasure to do it herself, of course it was not as intense as when it was Klaus but still. She closed her eyes and imagined Klaus once more. His hands cupping her breasts, his fingers playing with her nipples and Caroline's breath became raged. One of her hands descended down bringing her dress up as she caressed her inner thighs with it, wait no, Klaus' hand did this, not hers. She imagined Klaus' hands reaching her core and her own hand copied the movement.

She touched her core with her fingers and was taken aback to find out that she was wet. She continued and when her finger circled her clit she moaned.

"Klaus..." She breathed continuing to touch herself. One hand on her breasts and the other between her legs as her legs were spread open on the bed. She started to move her hips against her own hand and other moans left her lips. It felt so good after an entire week. She brought one then two fingers inside of her and she moaned louder as she pushed them in and then out and in again and out again. She imagined Klaus being between her legs and moving in and out of her, pushing his hips against hers.

And the door broke open making Caroline jump, she hurriedly took her hands off of herself and closed her legs bringing her dress down before holding her dress against her breasts to hide herself. She looked up to see Klaus and she closed her eyes in embarrassment turning away from him trying to fasten her dress with her trembling hands. Her face was burning and she must be as red as a tomato.

Klaus had been in the corridor when he had heard her moan. He had felt his blood boil instantly and had tried to open the door but found it locked. The thought of Caroline having sex with another man made him so angry, he exploded and broke open the door ready to kill the man that was touching his Caroline.

But when he entered Klaus was surprised to find Caroline lying in bed alone one hand on her exposed breasts and the other between her legs. She jumped and hurriedly tried to hide herself flushing in embarrassment. When she turned away from him he closed the door finding it was still possible to close even after him breaking it open. He looked back toward Caroline to see her trembling hands fight with her laces. He felt his need for her grow remembering how he had found her, pleasuring herself. He could smell her excitement and he had missed this scent so much.

"I apology, I thought you were with another man." Klaus declared.

"Well, obviously I wasn't." She snapped.

Klaus approached her and positioned himself behind her bringing his hands up and grabbing her trembling ones to keep them from trembling and they both felt the electricity going through them at the contact of their skin.

"You don't need to be embarrassed, love. And no need to hide from me it's nothing I haven't seen before." Klaus said keeping her hands in his.

"Of course I'm embarrassed. You just caught me touching myself." Caroline exclaimed.

"I heard you moan in the corridor and I became crazy, I thought you were with another man." Klaus stated, "What were you thinking about?"

Caroline took her hands away from Klaus' and brought them in front of her to keep her dress up before turning around to face Klaus, he was so close to her she could smell him.

"This is none of your business." Caroline said not sounding as strong as she had intended.

"Were you thinking about your hands on yourself or were you imagining someone else was touching you?" Klaus insisted with a husky voice.

"If you must know I was thinking about you." Caroline admitted keeping her head high and not missing the smile that appeared on Klaus' lips. And before she knew it he threw himself on her and his lips were on hers.

Klaus captured her lips with his, penetrating her mouth with his tongue and Caroline kissed him back passionately. They kissed like this for a few seconds before Caroline let go of her dress to bring her hands in Klaus' hair and Klaus' hands found her naked breasts. She moaned on his lips and Klaus lifted her up to bring her to the bed. He dropped her on it and climbed on top of her kissing her jaw, her neck and her breasts capturing one of her nipple in his mouth and twirling his tongue around it. Caroline arched her back and moaned loudly in pleasure. He brought her dress up with his hands and soon his finger was teasing her clit. He went back up to kiss her parted lips.

"I love you." He whispered against her lips and Caroline's eyes jerked open his words bringing her back to reality, "I love you so much."

"Stop, Klaus." Caroline whispered and Klaus immediately stopped his movements, "We can't do this, we are not together, I haven't forgiven you yet."

"Please, I know this doesn't mean we are back together and I know I'll have to prove myself to you and fight to get you back but just once let it go just for a few minutes. You want it, you were touching yourself imagining it was me. I need you and I know you need me." Klaus tried to convince her.

Caroline looked at him in the eyes and she placed a small peck on his lips, "Just for a few minutes." She agreed and Klaus kissed her passionately once more.

Caroline hurried things bringing her hands to his trousers and freeing his hard manhood before pushing his hand away from her core and placing his tip at her entrance.

"Are we in a hurry?" Klaus asked amused.

"I'm frustrated you interrupted me just when I was going to come." Caroline said rubbing his tip on her core which provoked Klaus to growl before bringing it back to her entrance waiting for him to push inside of her, "Please, Klaus, I need you." And with that said, he was inside of her, always kissing her lips, always touching her and looking at her intensely because he perfectly knew that it was just for a few minutes and then it would go back to the way it had been for the last week.

And when Caroline came undone in his arms and encircled her waist with his arms and kept her close to him soon following her as his orgasm hit him. And even then he kept her close to him staying inside of her for a few more seconds, his head on her chest, kissing her skin as she was trying to control her raged breathe.

Caroline didn't move and let him lie down on her chest. When she had said it would be just for a few minutes, she had known it was a lie and now she knew it even more. She didn't want it to be just for a few minutes and she would stay with him and she would forgive him with time, she knew she would. She smiled knowing he couldn't see her.

After a few minutes Klaus pulled out of her and stood up before fastening his trousers. He didn't want to make this awkward for her so he wouldn't stay until she had to ask him to leave, even though he really wanted to stay more than anything. He walked toward the door and opened it before turning around.

"Thank you." He said before turning away.

Caroline's mouth fell open. He had to be kidding. What was she for him? Because right now she really felt like a whore. He came in the room made love to her and left thanking her. Caroline was so offended. She jumped up and fastened her dress without any problem this time before walking out of the room and catching up with him, he was still in the corridor. She grabbed his arm and turned him around forcefully.

"What is wrong with you?" She yelled, "You are disgusting, you disgust me." She screamed before turning around and running back in the room before he had time to say something.

Klaus followed her, lost, he entered the room just after her, "Nothing is wrong with me, you are the one acting crazy right now." He said not raising his voice.

"I don't want to talk to you." Caroline said and she wasn't screaming anymore, she was hurt, "Is it all you wanted?"

She didn't need to tell more and Klaus knew what she was talking about, "No, I want so much more and you perfectly know it."

"Oh really? Because you just barged into the room, fucked me, thanked me and left." Caroline screamed before going in the bathroom and closing the door behind her.

Klaus closed his eyes, he hadn't thought about it but from her point of view it actually looked as if he had just wanted to fuck her. He didn't know how to do it, every time he tried to do something the right way it turned out being the opposite of what he should have done.

He opened the door of the bathroom, "I'm sorry if you misinterpreted my actions but that was not my intention. I left because I didn't want you to have to kick me out. You said it was just for a few minutes. And I thanked you because you said 'yet'. You said you haven't forgiven me 'yet', which means you are trying to forgive me." He declared and she looked up at him.

"I was lying. It was not just for a few minutes but you ruined everything." Caroline admitted and Klaus smiled but his smile soon disappeared, "I think we aren't going anywhere, anyway. Look at us, we are always fighting." She added.

"Give us a chance, Caroline, take a chance." Klaus pleaded.

"The problem is that we love each other too much for our own good." Caroline explained, "You love me so much that you would do anything to protect me even if it means going against my will and I can't accept that."

"I'll respect your choices, from now on I'll respect your choices and I won't go against your will. But I want you to try and see things from my point of view as well, Caroline. Imagine if you had to live forever and the love of your life would refuse to stay with you forever and would rather grow old and die." Klaus said seriously, "We need to learn to trust each other again, especially you. If you agree then meet me in the hall in an hour, if you don't come it means you don't ever want to be with me again." And with that Klaus left.
