Wow so I posted three chapters for my stories in the same day and I feel so accomplished! Woooh go me! Anyways on with the story! I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA!

She had sensed several jewel shards up in the mountains to the east so that is where Toga had started leading them to. But with the way that he, and Inuyasha were acting you would think that Naraku himself was ahead of them.

They were both growling low in their chests, and Touga had practically glued himself to her side. She spared a glance at the rest of their traveling party, all of them looking just as confused as her. "Toga why are you acting so strange?"

For a moment he did not answer her, just stared ahead with the same scowl on his face. "Ookamis." Was all he said, well it was more like an irritated growl.

So he did not like ookami demons...? Well it was not like it was of particular importance to her whether he liked wolves or not. So she shrugged it off and brought his large hand up to her mouth to kiss it. "I am sure that Sango, Miroku, and I can handle it if you, and Inuyasha do not want to go here..." She trailed of knowing that he would most likely get angry.

And he did not disappoint. He pinned her with a warning glare and bared his fangs at her. "There is no way that I am going to let my mate walk into ookami territory without me." His tone was sharp, and cutting, and his body was tense, and rigid.

"May I ask why?" He did not answer her question and she started to get irritated. "Touga I know that you want to go everywhere with me but you cannot! So if there is not a valid reason for this sudden protective streak, than there should be no reason for you to cling to me right now. And do not even say it is because the mating bond!" She cut him off when he opened his mouth. "It has been several weeks already and the bond is more than settled!"

"Be that as it may my answer is still no." He ground out linking his arm through hers and yanking her closer. "Ookami demons are worthless beasts that do not respect anything! They take the mates of other demons and rape them, or they force their mating mark on them, killing them in the process. A demon who does not respect a mating bond is a disgrace, and that makes most ookami demons disgraceful."

"But I thought that I could not mate another male... And I thought that I could not be marked by another male." Confusion raced through her mind. Had he not said that very same thing before? She met his eyes expectantly, she would have her answers.

"You cannot willingly take another male to your bed, or it is better to say that you will never want to. The bond between us makes us desire only each other, and no one else. That does not mean that you cannot be raped my love. And ookami are notorious for raping women, at least in the southern tribe. I have never been in the eastern tribe's territory... Still any ookami here will still try and test the bond between us... And if they are enticed enough by you, they may try and force their mark on you." His hackles raised visibly at the thought.

"But that would kill me would it not?" Strangely enough she was not afraid, she was strong enough to defend herself. Still something about her mate was not right. It was like there was more to mating bonds than he had told her.

"Most females would die." He answered her curtly. "Though some are strong enough to withstand having another mark forced upon them. In some cases a female has even survived having a mating mark removed forcefully, though it was an excruciating process from what I have heard."

"So you are worried that a ookami is going to try and force their mark on me?" She felt the need to clarify.

"Hn."

"You do know that I am strong enough to fight off any ookami that tries this right?"

"Hn."

"Are you going to answer me? Or are you going to pout about what has not happened some more?" She giggled despite herself. He actually looked like a pouting child who had not got their way.

"Do not make fun of me love." He growled down at her warningly. "Or do I need to take you aside and show you dominance?"

She snorted at the fact that he still thought of that as a punishment. "Oh no sex with my mate is such a bad punishment...Whatever will I do?" She drawled dramatically. Their bantering was cut off when a sharp scream rang out through the air, followed by the howling of wolves. "I guess we have to put this off for later huh?"

"Hn. Troublesome mate." Touga growled hefting her up and taking off towards the screams.

Blood hit his sensitive nose, along with the scent of agony, and pain. And as the group came upon the village it was easy to see why. A pack of ookami were attacking the small village and killing the villagers. The situation was no challenge to him, so without even sitting Kagome on her feet he lashed out with his lightning whip and dispatched the majority of them. They splattered apart in a shower of flesh, and blood under his vicious assault, raining down on the ground in a spray bloody carnage. Those that were not hit retreated towards the opposite side of the village and they quickly howled for reinforcements. He contemplated just killing them now, or waiting for their leader to show up so that he could teach the bastard a lesson. These ookami were the underlings of ookami demons, and he needed to teach the bastards to respect human life.

Kagome stiffened against him and tugged on his mokomoko to get his attention. "Jewel shards are approaching fast!"

He sat her on her feet and brandished his claws. "Stay behind me unless I tell you otherwise."

She did not have time to protest before a burst of youki signaled the arrival of the one carrying the jewel shards. Everyone got into defensive stances with weapons at the ready as a dirt tornado sped towards them like a bullet. When it got close enough to them it dispersed to reveal a young man. He had long dark hair held in a high pony tail, ice blue eyes without a pupil, and pointed demon ears. His outfit consisted of silver, and black armor that covered his midsection, a fur wrapped around his lower half with a bushy tail peaking out every few seconds from behind him, a brown fur headband rested across his forehead, and a pair of fur shoulder guards, and leg guards completed his apparel.

"Who the hell is killing my wolves?" He spat out as the remains of the pack rushed up to him whimpering, and whining. "And why the hell does this place smell like inu shit?"

He ignored the jibe against his race and approached the ookami cub. "You really should keep a better handle on your pack ookami cub." He sneered raising his claws defensively.

"Oh? And maybe you should just mind your own business inuturd!" The ookami laughed uproariously at the stupid insult before he sobered up. "My name is Koga and I am the leader of the Eastern Ookami demon tribe."

"I care not about who you are cub." He sneered and lunged at the cub with lightning coating his claws. Though when he got close enough to hack Koga to pieces the cub simply disappeared, and reappeared behind him. He spun and blocked a harsh kick from the ookami before he wrapped his lightning whip around his leg and scalded the flesh, before throwing the bastard away. So he was fast enough to almost match him, too bad for the ookami he was not really trying. Koga lunged back at him and they quickly erupted into a vicious battle of clanging claws, and ruthless insults, well at least on Koga's part. They locked claws over, and over, Koga always being the one that was forced away by Touga's brute strength. Clang, block, disengage. Sizzle, slash, block, dodge. They kept up the dance and Touga found that the ookami was not that bad if he was being honest. That being said if he put everything he had into the fight he would destroy the ookami in seconds. But where was the fun in that? What lesson was to be learned through a swift death?

He smirked and lashed out catching the ookami through the shoulder with his lightning whip. Koga quickly jumped back and landed in a crouch sliding back on his haunches. He gave the ookami no chance to recover before he was back on him slashing, and clawing at the now winded ookami. It was all the cub could do to avoid having his head taken clean off. "Are you seeing how pointless your struggle is?" He mocked slashing out and leaving a nasty gash down Koga's side. "I am not even trying yet...and you are already losing your life essence."

"Shut up already inuturd!" Koga spat before he summoned his whirlwind and used it to quickly maneuver around his back.

He sighed growing tired of this game. "Love where are the shards at?" He asked casually while he spun to catch Koga's leg with his palm.

"There is one in his right arm, and one in each leg!" Kagome called out from across the field.

Koga's entire demeanor changed once Kagome had spoken, and with a sharp twist he quickly disentangled himself. His eyes immediately sought out Kagome and locked on her form as he sniffed out at the air. "She can see the jewel shards?" He whispered his gaze unwavering on her.

"Yes she can and she is my mate so you had best take your eyes off of her cub!" He snarled drawing Shiroiraikiba and calling for his youki to enter the blade.

Koga quickly spun back around to face him, hackles raised before he summoned up his whirlwind and quickly fled from the battlefield.

"Did he just run away...?"

He sheathed his sword and turned to Inuyasha. "Yes I believe that he did, not that he will escape from me."

"So we're gonna go after him?" Inuyasha questioned cracking his knuckles with a wide grin spreading across his face.

"Yes you and I are going after him. Kagome, Sango, and Miroku will stay behind and wait for us here."

"Uhh no!" Kagome huffed hands coming to rest on her hips. "Collecting the jewel shards is my duty not yours! So I am going to get the shards from that wolf whether you like it or not!"

He snarled and grabbed her up with a quickness that surprised even Inuyasha. "I am the dominant mate and I have given you an order! Must we go and have another lesson in obedience?" He threatened eyes bleeding red as his beast threatened to take over.

She had the audacity to glare at him in blatant challenge. "Why would I care whether you want to take me into the forest and fuck me? If you want to go ahead! It will not stop me from doing my duty! Let me go and I will assume the position right now!"

The rest of their group gasped in surprise. "KAGOME!"

"No! Just because I am his mate does not mean that I do not have the right to personal choices! He orders me around all of the time! I am not an inu bitch! I am a miko who is fully capable of making her own choices! AND I WANT RESPECT GODDAMMIT!"

He covered her mouth to cut her screeching off before she made him deaf. "I do respect you. That being said I am still the dominant mate, and as such I have the right to order you around for your own safety. So you will stay here and wait for me to return. No arguments!" He hastily cut her off before she could protest again. "You two keep her here until we return." Pinning Sango, and Miroku with his most scathing glare to make sure that they understood.

"Right..." Sango muttered quickly looking away.

"No problem." Miroku answered coming forward to fetch Kagome from his hold.

She went with a heated glare towards him, even going so far as to brush him aside when he tried to kiss her goodbye. "No."

"Love I will be back soon I promise. There is no need to be so angry." He tried reasoning with her.

"Then go! Go and be a big tough male while I stay here and play the part of a useless housemate!" With that she turned and stomped off into the trees, Sango quickly took off after her with Kirara, and Shippo.

"I believe that Kagome-sama has a point Touga-sama." Miroku started slowly while he watched the women disappear. "Oh? And how do you figure that monk?"

"You do treat her as if she is defenseless, when we all know that she is not. You act as though she is unable to complete her duty. At least that is how I feel that she sees it. And unlike most women of this era, Kagome-sama does not want to be treated as a weakling. Perhaps you should talk to her, or give her more room to breathe and do what she wishes." And with that the monk turned and sauntered into the treeline after the women.

He considered what the monk said to him though it would not change his decision at this point. The ookami had scented of arousal when he had looked upon his mate, and it had made his blood boil. As the male in the bond he would not tolerate another male looking at her that way, as it was it was bad enough when Inuyasha did it. The only reason that Inuyasha was still alive was because the boy was his son. "Come Inuyasha."

"Keh! Let's just do this shit already before your troublesome female gets herself into trouble." Inuyasha groused stalking off ahead in the direction that the ookami had wandered off in.

She was pissed! No pissed was an understatement! She was downright raging mad and it was all because of her overprotective mate! Did he see her as useless or something? Is that why he was always leaving her behind, or ordering her to stay away from anything remotely dangerous? It made her see red swimming in the edges of her vision.

"Kagome-chan are you okay?"

She stopped and spun around to lock eyes with Sango. "No I am not!" Throwing her hands up in exasperation she stalked about kicking tree roots and shattering them. "Who the hell does he think he is?! He is always telling me what to do!"

"Kagome-chan..."

"No Sango! It is my duty not his! Midoriko is counting on me not him! The Shikon no tama is a part of me not him! He has no right to keep me from my duty! What does he see me as some weak defenseless girl?" She screamed on he verge of a full on temper tantrum, which she had not had since she was a small child.

"I don't think that is it Kagome-chan. Touga is a male inu and they are viciously overprotective over their mates. It is instinct for him to keep you from danger..." Sango sighed and reached out a hand to comfort her. "He does this because he loves you."

"I know but...I am not an inu Sango..." She slumped down against her friend almost defeated. "I feel useless when he does this... I feel like he sees me as a burden when he leaves me behind to go and face danger. It hurts when I watch him walk away from me into danger... I want to be there for him too." Against her will tears welled in her eyes and cascaded down over her cheeks.

"Shh! I know..." Sango cooed hugging Kagome close to her.

That was how Miroku found them when he walked into the small clearing a while later. Instead of saying anything he simply patted Kagome on the head sympathetically before going over and propping himself up against a nearby tree.

They sat in companionable silence for a long time, her just crying, and Sango comforting her, while Kirara, and Shippo cuddled into her lap. Her thoughts kept racing. She understood him, she really did, but that did not always help. To her it was like he did not care for her sensibilities, or instincts because they were different from his. Did he even make a conscious effort to understand how she felt when he did things like this? Or was it unimportant because she was his female, and thus subject to his whim? Still she was not some needy little girl that was useless! She was a strong miko! Probably the strongest miko since Midoriko herself! She would not sit around and listen to his orders like she was some useless child! As soon as she had a chance she was going after the ookami whether Touga liked it or not. And speaking of the devil and he shall appear... Her mate landed in the clearing in his orb form, and neither he, or Inuyasha looked pleased.

"Could not find him huh?" She snickered though she wondered how two inus could not sniff out one ookami.

Inside she was cheering that now he would have to take her with him if he wanted to find Koga.

"The scent of ookami is too strong to pick out any one scent..." Touga growled obviously less than pleased.

"The auras of a multitude of ookami, and a group of other demons are so numerous that I cannot even pinpoint the cub's aura." He came over to her and sat down next to her, immediately reaching out for her.

She scooted away slightly and pinned him with a harsh glare. "Do not act like the doting mate Touga."

"Love why must you be so stubborn? Why can you not just trust me to do things for your safety?" Touga huffed out exasperated. The others in the group just moved off to let the two talk it out.

"Did you ever think that it hurts me to watch you walk away and leave me behind?"

"Kagome-!" He stared before she cut him off.

"No! There are no excuses! It hurts to see you walk away from me and into danger! It hurts to think that after everything I have gone through you still do not see the strength that I have worked so hard to achieve! Every time there is danger you leave me behind like some defenseless little girl! I know that I am being stubborn but I cannot help it! I want to know why!?" She watched him closely for any sign, any emotion to flash through his eyes. There was anger first, then regret, and guilt, and finally a mixture of the three. When he reached out for her again she reluctantly crawled back into his arms and snuggled into him.

"You never see clearly love." He started, nuzzling her hair affectionately. "I did not know that my actions hurt you as much as they did, but I truly felt the need to keep you safe from the ookami cub. He was looking upon you with lust, and awe, and it sent my instincts into overdrive."

"But I would never ever take anyone over you! Even if you decided to remove my mark, or kill me! I love you and only you! That is why I want to go everywhere with you! I know that I have gone off on my own a couple of times, and that it must have bothered you but... Something in me called to me and I knew that you would not let me go regardless! So before you bring that up it was different!" She defended herself before he could inevitably bring it up.

Touga just stared at her with an exasperated scowl on his face, while he clutched her tighter to him. "Still that means that I have been in your place before no?"

"Yes but-!"

"No buts!" He chastised her before she could make her full rebuttal. "You have done the same thing to me love, and as an inu it was nearly unbearable to endure being separated from you! While I am glad that you saved my son's mate, I am still upset about how you went about doing it! So you have more than earned this punishment." Though the look on his face was becoming more and more displeased.

She pushed his hand away and spoke out against him. "You already punished me for it!" And a pleasant tingle jolted through her at the memory of said punishment.

"Yes I did, though I never implied that your punishment was over did I?"

"Tooooouuuugaaaaaaaaa!" She growled threateningly while she fingered at the inside of her chihaya where a kotodama similar to Inuyasha's sat. This kotodama had onyx colored beads, and pure white fangs, instead of the purple, and gray of Inuyasha's kotodama. She had acquired it from her master's old belongings and if Touga did not cut it out she was going to subjugate him.

"Though I suppose I can let it slide this time love, as we cannot find the ookami without your help." Touga started though he looked pained even saying it. "There are too many scents in the mountain range, it had made it impossible to pick up the cub's scent. So we need you to lead us to him."

She resisted the urge to do a victory dance where she was sitting in his lap. Instead she acted on impulse and tackled him to the ground where she proceeded to kiss the living hell out of him. And for all intent's and purposes he did not seem to mind, if the way he was grabbing at her bottom was any indication. It was still worth it, and even Inuyasha's gagging noises, and the resounding slap echoing through the trees could not distract her.

The wind flowing through her hair felt better than it ever had before. Maybe it was because of the fact that she had gotten her way, and then she had had her way again after she had beaten her mate in getting what she wanted...But whatever it was, she was not going to complain at all.

"Mama I don't like ookami..."

Startled she turned to look at Shippo who had been so silent from where he was sitting on her shoulder, that she had forgotten that he was there. "Do not worry baby. I will protect you from the big bad ookamis..." She cooed

reaching out for him, and then cuddling him to her chest. Shippo had never called her mama before... If she was being honest she already considered the kit a son, so it bothered her not at all to have him call her such.

"You won't let Bakayasha feed me to them?" Shippo persisted shooting a sulking Inuyasha a death glare.

"Keh! I'm too scared of the wench to do that to ya runt! You don't ever mess with a bitch's pups! Even I know that!" Inuyasha grumbled from where he sat at the back of the youki cloud. "Don't look at me like that bouzo! I can see ya smilin at me like the idiot that you are!" He called back to where Sango, and Miroku were trailing after them on Kirara.

"I did not say anything my inu friend!" Miroku called back more than a hint of amusement in his voice.

Kagome tuned them out and focused on rubbing Shippo's back soothingly. "Touga will protect you too! Right Touga?"

"Of course I will. We are mated now, and your pups are my pups." He answered her, eyes growing soft as he patted Shippo on the head affectionately.

Of course Shippo's eyes brightened up and he instantly latched onto the big inu's shoulder. "Really?! I have a papa now too?"

"I did just say that did I not?"

"YEAH! TAKE THAT BAKAYASHA! YOU CAN'T HIT ME ON THE HEAD ANYMORE CUZ PAPA WILL PUNISH YOU FOR IT!" Shippo cheered, quickly scurrying down Touga's leg so that he could pester Inuyasha.

"Thank you Touga."

"There is no need to thank me love. You see him as your pup, and that makes him mine as well." Touga glanced back at where Shippo was pestering Inuyasha, his eyes instantly turning mischievous. "I find that I am quite fond the kit..."

Anyone with eyes could see the truth plain as day in the Daiyoukai's eyes. If you did not know him, or Shippo you would think that they were actually father, and son. It warmed her heart that her little kit would not have to grow up without parents, without a family as she had.

A sharp tugging on her awareness dragged her attention back to the shard hunt, a shard that she had not immediately sensed was closing in on them fast, along with multiple youki auras. In a flash she had Kibou drawn and an arrow notched towards the sky. "Touga..."

"I sense them." He answered her drawing Shiroiraikiba from its' sheath. "Inuyasha protect Shippo."

Inuyasha did not have the chance to respond before the cause of the youki auras made their presence known. A massive group of bird demons descended from the skies to surround them. They closely resembled an enlarged pigeon, apart from the blue torsos adorning the top of their bodies, and the large gaping jaws with sharp teeth.

"Harpies?" She muttered distractedly drawing her bowstring tighter while she tried to locate the one with the jewel shard. Not that she had to because a twin headed harpy made its' way to the front of the flock.

"Miko you possess a fragment of the Shikon... My brother and I will be taking it from you! GO AND TAKE THE SHARD FROM HER!" It ordered, and the rest of the flock immediately lurched down at them.

Touga lurched in front of her swinging Shiroiraikiba out in front of him in a wide arc."RAIU!" He called out and the sky darkened, lightning bolts immediately raining down and clipping the wings of several of the birds. While he was doing that she lined up and let fire several arrows striking each target dead center in the head. "HIRAKOTSU!" Sango's hirakotsu raced by and cleaved several more birds in half before it returned to its' wielder. Body parts rained from the sky and crashed into the earth below.

The lightning still rained down from the sky as she fired arrow after arrow, each one lighting up the electric sparks a brilliant neon pink as their power mingled with each others, feeding, and drawing from one another. She switched to taking out whole groups of harpies with her arrows, instead of individual targets. With how many there were it was necessary, and more were descending down from the sky as well.

"Kaminari kizuato!"

A massive lightning based attack similar to the kaze no kizu shot up from Touga's sword lighting the sky up a haunting blue color. The harpies' skin sizzled and disintegrated before they were literally ripped apart, in a similar fashion to Inuyasha's windscar. That attack finished off all but the twin headed bird.

She raised her bow to finish it off but a sharp tugging on her senses made her falter. A second later Koga vaulted over the cliff face and punched out at the bird's face. "That's for eating my packmates you overgrown turkey!" Now she could not shoot for fear of killing the ookami, and though she held no feelings at all for him she could not kill one who had not wronged her.

Though her mate seemed to not care at all for the ookami's life. He raised his sword, youki swirling around the blade painting it a haunting luminescent blue before he moved to swing it down.

"TOUGA WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" She screamed latching onto his arm and stopping his attack. "What has Koga ever done to you? Why are you trying to attack him?"

He glared at her and attempted to shrug her off. "He leered at you with lust! You are mine and not his!"

"We talked about this Touga! Put the sword down!" She demanded though it seemed to not matter to him. From her peripherals she could see Koga quite frankly getting his ass handed to him by the bird, though in his defense the bird did have the ability to fly in an aerial fight... And she found herself questioning the ookami's intelligence... Sango apparently decided to come to her rescue, or more like Koga's rescue because a second later hirakotsu flew by and ripped the bird's wing clean off. It fell from the sky with a terrible screeching sound, and Koga quickly disentangled himself from it, before jumping to a nearby rock face.

She released Touga's arm and quickly lined up her sights on the bird before firing at it and hitting it dead center between the eyes. It turned to ashes with a piercing keening sound.

"Are you going to go grab the shard?" When her mate made no move to go grab the shard she became confused. Though when she followed his gaze and saw him glaring at Koga, who was leering at her, the reason became apparent. "Gods dammit all..." She muttered gesturing Sango forward. "Could you go and grab that shard?"

"Sure Kagome-chan!" Sango nodded before she gestured Kirara down to retrieve the shard from the ashes. That left her to stew in the rising tension between her mate, and her perpetually stupid new suitor. This could only end badly... Still she plastered on a fake smile and gestured to Koga. "Uhhh thanks for the help Koga! My MATE and I really appreciate it!"

Instantly both of their attentions were completely on her, but Koga was the first one to break the silence. "A beautiful woman like you mated a dogturd? You'd be much better off with a real warrior like me!"

Sango, and Miroku had just drifted back up between them with the shard, and both of them turned shocked eyes on the ookami who had just signed his death warrant. "I wish that I had that kind of audacity." Miroku muttered though he looked somewhat amused.

Kagome ignored him and placed a warning hand on her mate's arm when he tensed. "I AM MATED AS IN I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER MATE! I DO NOT PLAN ON EVER LEAVING MY MATE! SO YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME!" She purified the shard that Sango handed her before stuffing it into her chihaya.

"I don't care! You can see the jewel shards so you're perfect for me!" Koga persisted vehemently.

"Did you even hear what I said? Wait! Do you even know my name?"

"Of course I do! The dogturd called you Kagome earlier!" Koga smirked in what was supposed to be a suave manner, though it served no real purpose here.

"Kagome..." Touga growled irate. His whole body was tensed beyond belief, and he was practically foaming at the mouth.

"Touga I love you." She dragged him to look directly at her before she lightly pressed her lips against his. "I will not ever leave you...Not in life or even in death. So do not worry about Koga." She placated him her hands soothing over his crests. It seemed to help him relax a little bit. So with hesitance she pulled away and gave Koga a warning look. "I will never leave my mate for anyone."

"You don't have to! I can kick his ass and take you as mine! The miko who slayed the Birds of Paradise that were plaguing my tribe will be hailed as a goddess in my pack! You are perfect!"

"Is he stupid?"

Her brows twitched despite herself at Shippo's question.

"Yes it appears so... I am surprised that Touga has not killed him yet."

That was Miroku though she barely heard him over her racing thoughts.

"Should we leave before the mountain range gets destroyed?"

Should they? Sango had a point... Yes that sounded good to her. "Touga let us go before things go too far."

"No! He just challenged my claim over you!" Touga snarled instantly going all crazy inu male on her.

Instead of even trying to reason with him she hastily reached into her chihaya and slapped the kotodama over his neck, chanting a quick prayer as she did so. "Lay down." She muttered exasperated.

In an instant the kotodama lit up and slammed Touga into his youki cloud in a similar manner to Inuyasha, when she sat him. He went down snarling, and snapping his jaws like a rabid animal. She paid him no mind before she turned back to Koga. "Look just give me the jewel shards, and leave before Touga kills you. And get over the idea of me ever being your mate because I am NOT INTERESTED!"

Of course Koga had to do the opposite. "I will not give you the jewel shards my love! I will need them to protect you after I take you from that dogturd there!" He turned and waved before disappearing into the distance.

"Did he just...?"

"I think he did my dear Sango."

"LECHER!" A sharp slap sounded.

She could not even look away from the spot where the newest thorn in her side had disappeared to, to look at Miroku's descent towards the ground below. The only thing that could catch her attention was a massive pulse of a furious youki aura.

"KAGOME!"

She gulped and turned wide frightened eyes to her mate who was looming over her. "Uhhh is it too late to apologize...?" She whimpered.
