Gain never comes without sacrifice. Keyblade wielders knew that better than most. Sometimes, in order for things to get better, you have to give some very precious things up.
Ventus was the first. He gave up his heart in order to stop the forging of the χ-blade, and it worked. Vanitas was taken down, but Ven faded away, a mere shell of who he once was.
After him came Aqua. To save Terra, she cast herself into the Realm of Darkness in his place. Anyone with any sense knew that she would last longer down there. That made her sacrifice worth it.
Sora surrendered his heart to rescue Kairi. Riku relinquished his freedom to stop Ansem. Xion gave up her life to keep the worlds safe and buy her friends time. Roxas faded away to give Sora another chance. Axel died to protect the people he cared for the most.
Gain never comes without sacrifice... but that doesn't mean that it stops there. Everything has a way of coming back in the end.
It was only the beginning.
Finally done! Now that this is finished, I can focus more on completing my two multi-chaps and one-shot series. I hope you enjoyed this, but now I have to say goodbye.
