Chapter 25

Matt quickly moved to answer the door as Gabby pretended not be nervous as she stood in the kitchen looking through the fridge.

"Hey Antonio," Matt greeted as he held the door open and shook Antonio's hand.

"Hey man, is my sister around?" he asked as he stepped through the doorway.

"Yeah, she is in the kitchen."

Gabby heard the footsteps from the front room followed by her brother's voice. She took in a deep breath and made her way into the living room. She did her best to put on her brave face. "So what brings you by?" Gabby asked as she stood next to Matt, who instantly wrapped his arm around her mid section.

"You were never one for small talk," Antonio said as he crossed his arms. "I got word this morning that DA is thinking of cutting Devon a deal, apparently she knows some information on a couple of cases and she is ready to roll over."

"What is the deal?" Gabby asked looking away from her brother and doing her best not to let her emotions control her.

"She would serve six months with time already served," A look of disgust filled his features with each word.

"What!" Gabby screamed as she took a step closer to her brother. "That bitch tried to kill me then kidnapped me and she is only getting six months!"

"Gabby I wish that I could do something, but it's not my call."

"How long does she have to accept the deal?" Matt asked still in shock over the news.

"She has until tomorrow to give her answer."

"Unbelievable," Gabby mumbled as she ran her hands through her hair. So many thoughts raced through her mind.

"Baby," Matt said as he placed both of his hands on her hips. "I promise that everything will be okay and she will never get to you."

Gabby meant his eye contact and see the same fear in his eyes that filled her own. She knew that she should say something, but she didn't know how to form the words, instead she simply nodded her head and allowed Matt to pull her body into his.

"I will keep you guys up to date about the situation."

"Thanks Antonio," Matt said without letting go of Gabby.

"Call me if you need anything and that goes for the both of you," Antonio said as he watched the couple.

"Thanks," Gabby said as tried her best to hold back the tears in her eyes.

"Hey Matt can I talk to you for a minute," Antonio asked as he tilted his head toward the door.

"Um, yeah," Matt said as he released Gabby and followed Antonio out of the house.

Once they were on the porch, Matt shut the door behind him, "Is there more?" Matt asked wanting to lay all the cards on the table.

"No I was straight with the both of you. I just wanted to say thank you for being there for my sister. I'm really glad that she has you."

"That means a lot," Matt stated. "But to tell you the truth I would be lost without her and there is no way that I'm going to stand by and watch this happen to her again."

"I get it and as her brother I'm right there with you, but as a cop, I got to tell you don't do anything stupid."

"I just want to know what has to happen for this deal to fall through."

Gabby climbed into the bathtub filled with warm water, she needed to relax and think clearly. How could this happen? How could someone hurt another person and get a slap on the wrist? Gabby took a drink of her glass of wine.

Matt slowly opened the door to the bathroom to find Gabby in her favorite place. With her eyes closed and hair pulled back in a messy bun, he could tell that she was completely lost her thoughts.

"Baby," Matt called out as he leaned his body against the door frame.

She slowly opened her eyes and turned to face him, "It was crazy how happy we were just a few hours ago and now everything has changed."

Confusion set into Matt's features, "Nothing has changed."

"Hasn't it?" Gabby asked quietly. "For the next sixth month we are going to be worrying about what will happen when she gets out. Then after she is out, we will look over our shoulders wondering if she is ever going to come back. We will never be fully safe and happy."

"I wish that I could tell you that everything you said won't happen," Matt began to say as he moved closer to her. "But I can't. What I can tell you is that this is our lives and it will be what we make it, together." He leaned down and placed a kiss on the top of her head and then kneeled down to the floor.

"I love you Gabriela Casey and tonight we are not going to worry about anything expect the two of us, everything can wait until tomorrow." Matt quickly brought his lips to Gabby's. He knew that she needed him and he planned to always give her what she needed.

Author's note: SOOOOO excited for tonight's episode. I really think that Matt is going to ask Gabby to marry him, but based on the spoilers, I don't think they are the couple that will be getting married this season. I hope that she does yes, but I think it could go either way. Anyways, I hope you liked the update and please tell me what you think.
