Jack knew he'd caught a venomous snake by its tail, and he was certain he would get bitten, but for the moment, the snake was sleeping.

Now he had to deal with a very wide awake and very angry Ash.

The look he received as he stepped through the cell door told him that Ash was still angry. He couldn't understand…no, that wasn't true, he could sort of understand, why Ash had gone with the Doctor.

James was Ash's and the Doctor's son, that alone would be enough for any man. But Ash had gone way beyond that; he'd willingly assisted the Doctor in various crimes. He was still waiting for Martha to run tests on Ash's blood. He hoped, no wanted to believe that some kind of chemical influence had made Ash act as he had.

"If you've come to persuade me to turn against him, you'll be wasting your breath."

Jack sat down opposite him, "Wouldn't dream of doing that. In fact, I admire your loyalty."

That earned him another look.

"And flattery won't work either. Besides, I won't be here for long."

Jack smiled, "Really, since we have the only person who could get you out locked up in a cell, I very much doubt that."

He didn't like the smile he got in return…did Ash know something?

"Where are the boys?"

"Somewhere safe," he replied.

He was hoping for a reaction, but there wasn't one.

"You're not angry that they've been taken away?"

Ash shrugged his shoulder and said.

"Again….not for long."

One again, where was this confidence coming from? He expected it from the Doctor, but Ash.

"You seem pretty confident, why is that?"

But Ash didn't seem inclined to tell him, and after that no matter how Jack phrased it, the question remained unanswered.

He didn't like this, and again the feeling that this wasn't over returned.

He left Ash alone and went back up to the Hub. Martha had arrived in his absence.

"I'm sorry Jack, but there's nothing in his blood. It's possible that the Doctor used something I can't detect, or…."

"You think he went willingly," Jack finished.

"I know you don't want to think that. But Ash and the Doctor were together, and there is James. When it comes to choice, parental instinct will win over anything else. But I'm more concerned about the Doctor. His serotonin levels are all over the place, it's no wonder his unstable."

"Can you stabilise the levels?"

She shook her head, "The drugs we have would be metabolised by his system within hours. What I really need is whatever the Master was using, and that isn't about to be forthcoming, is it?"

Jack shot her a look; he knew she was unhappy with him. She'd been unhappy about handing the boys over to the military and she wasn't happy about them being where they were now.

"So, what do we do?"

"I hate to say this…really hate this, but you may have to keep him locked up. He's a danger to himself and to others."

Jack wasn't happy at that, but in reality he knew that would have to happen. He'd let him out once; he wouldn't make the same mistake again.

"I need to take more blood," Martha said. "If I can monitor the serotonin, I might be able to make something temporary."

He nodded.

"Ianto, we're going down to Level Seven. Make sure all the doors are sealed behind us, and watch the cameras."

"Yes sir," Ianto said.

The Doctor knew by the taste in his mouth, that there was Serum Five in his system. For a few moments he wasn't sure where he was and what had happened. But it was only a few moments.

When memory crystallised, his blood burnt with anger.

He didn't move from the floor….one because he knew there would be a camera and two, he could feel the restraints…no, call them what they were…chains; no doubt attached to the wall.

His lips curled in a silent snarl, he was a prisoner…for now. He closed his eyes and reached out, hoping to make a connection with the Master…but there was nothing. Either the Master was still too far away, or his mind was fogged by Serum Five. But once his mind was clear and if the Master was eventually close enough, he wouldn't be a prisoner anymore.

"Is he still out?" Martha said.

"I had to give him the full dose…so he should be," Jack replied.

Martha stepped forward, just as the Doctor let out a low groan.

"Wait," Jack said.

Jack crouched down next to the Doctor and studied him.

"I think he's coming round, take your bloods now."

Martha crouched down next to the Doctor. She carefully inserted the needle and began drawing blood. She felt the Doctor shift under her….this wasn't good, but she couldn't rush.

Then the Doctor let out a growl...so not good.

"Martha, hurry it up," Jack was saying, she could hear the urgency in his voice.

The growl turned to a snarl, she felt it vibrating through the hand she had on his neck. She jumped when his eyes snapped open and she was staring into eyes that held not one shred of sanity.

The Master was slowly losing patience; the fleet was taking too long to reach Earth. He wanted to use the vortex device, but once again it wasn't working, and he didn't have the Doctor to fix it.

His anger was building, he hadn't wanted to leave the Doctor behind, nor did he want to leave the body of his eldest son; didn't want to leave it to be dissected like some kind of lab-rat.

When he reached Earth, he would find the Doctor, find his two sons, retrieve the body of Seska, and then the Earth would burn.
