Surprised to see me again? I know I am. Anyway I am so into this story right now I can't stop writing, so that's good news for all of you so expect more updates. I'm currently having a break from writing my other monster story so I have nothing else to do right now except work on this one.
Also I have fine tuned out my plot and I will let you all know that after the end of season 2 this story will became AU. While I love the series and I personally wouldn't change anything because I was happy with the way it ended even though it was sad as fuck. I do believe with the introduction of new characters it can change the course of a story. And let me tell you, what i have come up with I think is some of my best work. I'm excited to get it written out. But yes if you aren't a fan of AU stories then that can't really be helped but it's just the way I'm going.
My take will be a lot darker then the series, and will have major character deaths. Obviously I'm not going to spoil anything but be prepared. I feel like even though the series had it's fair share of darkness and angsty shit, it would've been a lot worse in actual medieval times. Enough of my rambling, enjoy the chapter!
Nightmare
Cassandra knocked on the door softly. She waited patiently before the door slowly opened and Morgana's tired and frightened face greeted her. "Can I come in?" Cassandra asked hesitantly. Morgana looked on the verge of crying as she nodded and stepped aside to let the shorter girl in.
Cassandra walked around her and glanced over to the corner where the scorch marks were evident on the wall. Her broken window had been boarded up with wood.
"I heard about what happened last night, with the fire. I wanted to come see if you were ok?" said Cassandra. She heard the door shut as Morgana dragged her feet over to her bed and sat down heavily. Cassandra followed and sat down next to her.
"It was horrible, Cass. I don't know what to do." Morgana whispered as she played with her fingers, avoiding the piercing emerald gaze of her friend.
"Tell me what happened, Morgana. You know I can help."
Morgana lifted her gaze slowly. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying and the skin under her eyes was dark and bruised, evidence of her trauma from the night before. Morgana lips pulled up into a gentle smile, "Cass you are the only one who believes that I have visions. I fear it was magic. I know I started the fire."
"I believe you, Morgana, I really do." Morgana looked hopeful. "But being afraid of this isn't going to help you. The more you fear it the worse these outbursts will become."
"How can I not be scared?" Morgana cried out. "If Uther finds out what really happened in here he'll execute me!"
Cassandra could see that Morgana was getting worked up again. Her eyes were darting all over the room and she looked on the verge of tears. Cassandra took one of Morgana's hands in hers, "I won't let that happen to you, I promise. I am going to help you."
"Help me?" Morgana said in disbelief. "No one can help me, Cass."
"Do you trust me?" Cassandra asked, her green eyes serious.
Morgana looked stunned at the question, thinking that she was asking an absurd question, "Of course. I don't know where I would be without you."
Cassandra squeezed her hand reassuringly, "Then trust me now, Morgana." It took a moment, but Morgana nodded her head. "There are some things I need to take care of, but I will be back later. Try and get some rest."
"I don't think I'll ever be able to sleep again," Morgana muttered sadly. Cassandra looked stared at her for a second, before hugging her quickly, trying to convey her reassuring feelings from the simple hug as she left her room.
Cassandra made her way to the lower town and found herself walking into the Blacksmith shop. Lucas was hammering away on a newly constructed sword as he glanced up when he saw her.
"Hey," he said with a smile. Wiping his dirty hands on his trousers.
Cassandra stopped a few feet away from him, "Were you serious when you said that if I ever had to leave again you'd come with me?"
Lucas stumbled into the bench but regained his composure and stared at her weirdly, "Of course I meant it. What's going on?"
"I need your help." Cassandra said.
Lucas pushed the long strands of hair that had fallen into his eyes away from his face, "With what?"
Cassandra bit down on her lower lip, nervous about telling Lucas about Morgana. She knew that Gaius didn't want anyone knowing about Morgana's magic, Gaius didn't even know about Lucas' magic. But if Cassandra was going to do this, she needed his help.
"You can't say a word to anyone about this."
"Ok…"
"I mean it," Cassandra threatened.
Lucas laughed, "I get it, Cass. I promise I won't say a word."
Cassandra took a deep breath in, "Morgana has magic."
Lucas looked surprised, but it wasn't like this was earth-shattering news for him to hear, "Ok, so what's the problem?"
"Where do I start?" Cassandra scoffed. She rubbed her forehead, "She's scared, Lucas. She can't control her magic and I think the only way for her to understand without revealing my own magic is to take her to the druids."
Lucas' eyebrows shot up, "The Druids? You really think that's wise? She's the king's ward; they'd be terrified of her.
"I don't think she'll turn them in. Morgana wants help. She already knows that I have a connection to the Druids so she'll go if I take her."
Lucas rolled his eyes, "And you want me to come along."
"I can't let Morgana go alone, and I can't defend myself without using magic. And I'm not sure if I'm ready for her to find out yet. Please, Lucas."
Lucas laughed, approaching Cassandra as he placed his hands on her shoulder, "I already said that I would go anywhere with you. When do we leave?"
"Tonight." Cassandra said with a firm nod.
Lucas returned her nod, "Ok, I'll get my things ready."
Cassandra hugged him around the waist, "Thank you. Meet me outside Camelot at midnight. Don't tell anyone about this."
"I won't."
~25~
At dinner Cassandra was eating with both Merlin and Gaius. Merlin was sulking as Gaius had refused to let Merlin tell Morgana that her powers were magic, but little did they both know Cassandra had already told her and was planning on smuggling her out of Camelot that night.
"So," Cassandra said suddenly. "Lucas and I are going out of Camelot for a few days. He got sent word that his family is visiting a village just outside Camelot and he wants to go."
Merlin didn't bat an eyelid and Gaius smiled at her, "Sounds like a lovely trip. When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow morning. Early. Probably before anyone wakes up." Cassandra said, grinning at Gaius. The old man gave her a suspicious look but didn't question her on her strange behavior. "Merlin should be able to help you with the potions and your rounds while I'm gone, won't you Merlin?" Cassandra took the attention off her as Merlin snapped his head up and glared at her.
"Me? I'm busy, you know being tortured by Arthur on a daily basis. Not that you two would have any idea what that's like."
"No, I wouldn't." Cassandra said with an innocent smile as Merlin narrowed his eyes at her.
Cassandra knocked on Morgana's door after dinner, the lady in question opened it up a few seconds later and looked relived to see her, "I was beginning to think you weren't coming." Morgana said, stepping aside to let her in.
"I said I would come." Cassandra said as she turned to face Morgana as she closed the door. "Is Gwen here?"
Morgana shook her head, "No, she's gone to fetch my dinner."
Cassandra studied Morgana's face again; she still looked tired and frightened. "I'm going to need you to trust in me now."
"I do." Morgana said instantly.
"The Druids can help you, Morgana." Cassandra told her. Morgana looked surprised. "I know where they are and they can help. We can leave tonight if you want."
Morgana looked away, finding herself staring at her reflection in her mirror. She was silent for a long time before she slowly turned her body to face Cassandra. The fear and doubt weighed in her mind but she could see Cassandra's reassuring expression.
"I want to go." Morgana said finally as Cassandra smiled at her.
"We'll leave tonight. Don't be afraid, Morgana."
~25~
"Lucas?" Cassandra called out into the darkness. Morgana stood next to her garbed in a red cloak with the hood pulled up obscuring her face. Cassandra's own face was hidden behind the hood of her own dark cloak. Underneath she wore her dark brown tunic and black trousers and boots.
"Over here," Lucas replied, appearing out of some bushes. He spotted Morgana and bowed to her. "My Lady."
"Thank you for coming with us," Morgana said sincerely. Lucas nodded in appreciation as Cassandra gently took Morgana's arm.
"We need to get moving. The forest of Ascetir is a long walk and dangerous beasts inhabit the area around the Druid camp."
Morgana looked terrified at the mention of beasts but allowed Cassandra to direct her the right way. Lucas took up position behind them, one hand resting on his sword at all times as the trio started their long trek.
They made camp a few hours after starting their journey so that Morgana could rest. She had argued that she was fine but Cassandra had given her a stern look and told her that she was exhausted from her magic plaguing her. With a promise that she wouldn't let anything happen to her while she slept Morgana had passed out curled up at the root of a tree.
"You really care about her, don't you?" Lucas whispered, taking a seat next to her on the log she had perched herself on.
"She's my friend," Cassandra replied, leaning against his shoulder.
"You could get into a lot of trouble doing this. Once the King finds out that she's missing…"
"We won't stay for long." Cassandra reassured him, "I just want Morgana to see that magic isn't to be feared. The Druids can do that for her."
"I'm not questioning your decision, but do you think you're doing the right thing?" Lucas asked.
Cassandra pondered his question for a moment as her gaze lingered on Morgana's sleeping body, she was sure that the woman was asleep but was nervous about her overhearing anything.
"I got lucky with my magic," Cassandra said hesitantly. "I had my father to watch over me, and then the Druids. You had your brothers and the Druids too. Morgana…she has no one. She can't confide in Uther, as he'll have her killed so she's alone in this. She can't even properly confide in me, as I haven't been completely honest with her. But I know what it's like to be alone in this world, and I can tell what she's feeling."
Lucas tossed his arm around her shoulder and pulled her roughly against him, "You're a good person, Cass." He said, ruffling up her hair. The red head swatted him away, laughing. As Lucas looked out into the trees, making sure there were no followers or beasts lurking around their camp. Cassandra gazed down at her feet.
I haven't always been good, she thought sadly. Remembering Nimueh and her original quest that only Gaius knew about. Helping Morgana and the Druids, it was the only way she felt she could make up for her wrongdoings in the past.
"Merlin?"
The young warlock turned at the sound of his voice. He had placed Arthur's breakfast down in front of him and had hoped to the God's he wasn't going to question him on his lateness, but it looked like the God's weren't on his side today.
"Yes, sire?"
"Is there any reason why you're an hour late to work this morning?" Arthur asked, leaning on his elbows.
Merlin pursed his lips and scratched his head; "I had to help Gaius with his deliveries this morning. I assure you that tomorrow I will be on time."
"You better be, I'm starving." Arthur warned as he started to eat his breakfast. Merlin began his chores of tidying up Arthur's room, making his bed and collecting his dirty clothes.
"I thought Cassandra helped Gaius with his deliveries?" Arthur asked with his mouth half full of meat.
Merlin glanced over at him underneath a pile of dirty clothes he held in his arms, "She does. She's gone on a trip with her friend Lucas for a few days out of Camelot. Something about his family—I wasn't really paying attention to her last night."
Arthur had suddenly lost his appetite; he leaned back in his chair as he glared at the table hatefully. Merlin saw his sudden change in behavior as he cleared his throat, "I'm sure it's not like a roman—"
"Merlin. Finish that sentence and it'll be the last thing you ever do," Arthur threatened, glaring over at his servant as Merlin froze. The warning bells suddenly started chiming as Arthur jumped out of his seat.
"What's going on?" Merlin asked no one in particular.
"I don't know," Arthur snapped, storming out of the room. "Hurry up, Merlin!"
~25~
The trio arrived at the Forest of Ascetir the next night after the sun had set. All three of them were exhausted as they crept through the forest. "So where is their camp supposed to be?" Lucas asked, jumping slightly when he heard a sound off to their right.
"Deepest part of the woods from what I remember," Cassandra said casually. She seemed to be the only one out of the three that was comfortable walking in the creepy woods at night. Morgana and Lucas were jumping and every little sound they heard.
"Right," Lucas drawled. "And what beasts are most likely to be around their camp?"
"Serkets most likely. Nasty little things they are. I was stung by one when I was a child, hurt for a long time."
"Good to know." Morgana mumbled nervously.
They walked for a little longer before they began to hear noises close by them. Lucas drew his sword as Morgana moved closer to him, seeking protection from him. Cassandra was a bit further away, staring intently into the forest as she tried to find any sign of the camps. She knew they had to be close; they had been walking for hours. She decided to try and reach out to Mordred, if he was near he could send someone to find them and bring them to the camp.
Still, telepathy wasn't her strong suit, and it always worked better if she could see the person she was talking to. Cassandra shut her eyes and reached out with her mind.
"Mordred? Mordred its Cassandra. If you can hear me I'm here in the forest. I'm trying to find the camp, I need your help."
Cassandra waited for a reply. She was loosing hope when Mordred didn't reply. She was either still too far away or her telepathy was still weak that it hadn't even worked.
"Ah!"
Morgana screamed from behind her as Cassandra spun around. A large Serket had appeared behind them. Cassandra then heard the noises all around her as she spotted more Serkets closing in around them.
Lucas shielded Morgana protectively as he swiped at the beast with his sword, "Cass!" Lucas called in warning.
Mordred! Cassandra screamed in her head, using all her magic. Morgana screamed again. This time it was in pain as Cassandra spun around. The large Serket had stung Morgana as Lucas crouched down to her and tried to pull her up.
"Morgana!" Cassandra cried out as she ran to them.
"Cass, we have to do something!" Lucas cried. His vivid blue eyes wide as he stared at the Serkets surrounding them and enclosing fast. Cassandra knew she would have to use her magic. She stared down at Morgana, seeing the woman falling unconscious from the poison. Cassandra met Lucas' frantic gaze as she nodded. It was now or never.
They both spun around at the same time, their hands outstretched as their eyes glowed gold and the Serkets were launched away from them.
"Forbærne yfel!" Lucas yelled. The largest Serket went up in flames in front of him as Cassandra used the same spell on the others. The Serkets started scuttling away from the trio as Cassandra knelt down by Morgana once more. She pulled up her cloak and dress so that she could see the wound on her leg.
"Is she going to be ok?" Lucas asked as he knelt down too.
Cassandra glanced around, "I'll need to make an antidote from some of the Serkets poison, but we need to get her somewhere warm and safe."
"Cassandra." A voice said off to their right. Lucas and Cassandra looked to the person who had spoken.
"Aglain," Lucas said in surprise.
The dark skinned man, garbed in a pale red cloak looked to each of them, "Lucas and Cassandra. It has been a while since you two have been here together." Aglain's gaze went to the unconscious Morgana. "Although bringing her here was something I never imagined you would do."
"She's injured," Cassandra said. "I need to heal her back at camp, will you let her come?"
Aglain thought on it, and then nodded. Lucas took it as his cue as he sheathed his sword and picked Morgana up and settled her in his arms as he walked after Aglain towards the Druid camp. Cassandra hurried to one of the dead carcasses and began to harvest the venom from the Serket.
Morgana awoke with a start, feeling someone wiping her forehead with a cloth. She spotted an unknown man hovering over her as she gasped and tried to move away. "It's alright." Aglain said kindly. "I'm not going to hurt you."
Morgana tried to move away again but felt a sharp pain in her leg, "Ah!"
"Try not to move, you were stung by a Serket and you're still healing." Aglain explained.
Morgana eyed him sceptically, "Who are you? How did I get here?"
"My name is Aglain, Morgana. You are in our Druid camp."
"How do you know my name?" Morgana asked him, frowning in suspicion.
"I told him." A voice said in her head as Mordred appeared in the tent. Morgana was stunned to see him as he greeted her with a smirk.
Morgana suddenly remembered about Cassandra and Lucas, "Cassandra…and Lucas. Where are they? Are they alright?" Morgana asked worriedly. She couldn't remember anything after falling unconscious from the Serkets.
Aglain smirked, "See for yourself." He said, moving his body slightly so that Morgana could see out of the tent. Morgana strained her neck as she spotted the long red tresses of Cassandra standing in the middle of the druid camp.
Cassandra was facing slightly away from Morgana but she knew it was her from her height and hair. She was talking with an older man with grey hair as he grinned at her kindly as Cassandra had her attention taken by a young woman. They hugged quickly as Lucas appeared by her side. They were all talking and laughing. Morgana felt a smile appear on her face.
"She really did stay with the druids, didn't she?" Morgana whispered more to herself.
Aglain answered her anyway, "Yes. Cassandra is a wonderful healer. She came to us as a young child, Lucas not long after her. They became very close. I am glad to see that friendship is still there between them." Aglain said with a smile that Morgana returned.
The tent door suddenly opened as Cassandra appeared, "You're awake." She said in relief, stepping in as Aglain excused himself so that the two women could talk. Cassandra sat down next to Morgana as Mordred placed himself next to Cassandra, leaning against her shoulder. "Mordred told me." She said with a grin directed to the young boy.
"Did you heal me?" Morgana asked.
"Of course, what kind of physician would I be if I couldn't cure a Serkets sting?" Cassandra said proudly.
Morgana chuckled, "Thank you. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't been there."
"Aglain's a good healer too. I learnt from him."
Morgana looked between Cassandra and Mordred, "I know you told me a long time ago that you stayed with the Druids, but it's still hard for me to believe. Even after all this time, you still surprise me with your secrets."
"That's why they're secrets." Cassandra said with a wink.
Morgana watched as Mordred looked up at Cassandra. There was a moment before Cassandra glanced down at him with a smile, "For a little while."
"How do you do that?" Morgana asked suddenly, knowing that Mordred was talking in her mind.
"Mordred is special," Cassandra said, hugging the boy tightly. "He's one of the few people who has a powerful magic. He can speak to people with his mind. When he was younger he never used his words, he only talked to people through his magic. I guess it's just stuck with him."
Mordred glanced up at Cassandra again, another silent conversation passed between them as Cassandra nodded her head, "He should be talking with Iseldir. Go and find him, we're not going anywhere anytime soon."
Mordred scampered off eagerly as Cassandra and Morgana watched him go. Morgana smiled, "You're very close with him. He's like a brother to you."
Cassandra nodded, "He was five when I came to the Druids. He had recently lost his mother to a sickness. I knew what he was going through after loosing my own father. Lucas and I treated him like our little brother. It pained me to leave him when I left but I knew he would be all right. I'm just thankful he doesn't resent me for leaving." Cassandra stood up from her position on the floor, "I'll let you get some rest. You should be able to start walking without pain in a few hours."
Morgana reached for her hand, "Thank you, Cass. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't brought me here."
Cassandra smiled down at her, "You're welcome."
~25~
Cassandra and Lucas were sitting on a log each talking about their time as children with the Druids. They had been in the camp for a day now. "Do you remember the time when we levitated Cerdan's dinner above his head?" Lucas said through a grin.
Cassandra laughed, "Yes and then you lost your concentration and the soup went all over him!"
"And then he chased you all around the camp," Lucas laughed.
Cassandra glared at him, "Because you told him it was me! I had to climb up a tree to escape him…"
They both laughed again. Suddenly, they heard a dogs howl off in the distance. Followed by more barking. "Lucas…" Cassandra said tensely.
"Hurry!" A Druid man yelled out. "Prince Arthur and his knights are upon us. Everyone we must leave!"
Lucas and Cassandra shared a terrified look. They most definitely couldn't be caught in the Druid camp. "Cass we have to go!" Lucas yelled, collecting his sword and cloak.
"We need to get Morgana." Cassandra yelled back.
"Cassandra!" Aglain called out to her as the red head turned. She spotted Aglain helping a hobbling Morgana. Mordred was by their side and—
"Merlin?" Cassandra said in shock when she saw her friend. Merlin looked equally as stunned to see her.
"Cass? So it was you that brought Morgana here."
"We don't have time for this!" Lucas shouted at the pair.
Aglain nodded as he shoved Mordred towards Cassandra and Lucas, "Take Mordred and run. I'll meet up with you."
"Aglain…" Cassandra said.
The screams of the druids sounded all around them. The Knights had entered the camp. Cassandra grabbed a hold of Mordred's hand as she followed Lucas as they began to run.
Cassandra half dragged Mordred with her as the three of them darted through the foggy forest. They could hear the howling of the dogs and the slicing of flesh behind them. Cassandra didn't want to think about all the people being slaughtered behind her, she had to get Mordred to safety and hope that her and Lucas were not seen by anyone.
"Stop!" Lucas hissed, ducking behind a large boulder. Cassandra crouched down, pulling Mordred against her chest as they panted quietly. They heard footsteps running ahead of them, crunching the dried up leaves and twigs.
"We can't be seen," Cassandra hissed to Lucas as he nodded in agreement. Cassandra felt Mordred shift in her arms as she glanced down at him. He was staring at her with his ice blue eyes.
"Thank you, Cassandra." Mordred pushed himself out of her arms and ran, gaining the knights attention.
"Mordred!" Cassandra screamed. He was using himself as a diversion so that she and Lucas could get away.
Lucas tugged on her arm and tried to drag her in the opposite direction, "Cass we need to get out of here."
"I'm not leaving him!" Cassandra argued.
"Mordred can look after himself. If we're caught we will be killed."
"He's a child, Lucas! I'm not leaving him!" Cassandra managed to pull her arm out of his grip as she chased after the figures running through the trees. She could see Mordred's dark green cloak ahead of the knights as the men ran after him, their swords drawn. Lucas shook his head at his insane friend but ran after her anyway, he wasn't going to abandon here after all they'd been through.
Cassandra watched as Mordred was suddenly surrounded by the knights, his young face scared but determined as he let loose a cry and a large push of magic that sent all of the knights flying away from him. Cassandra was in awe at the sheer power that Mordred had released as she stumbled in the foliage. She paused for a second, making sure that the knights were unconscious before she ran to Mordred, gripping his shoulders tightly as she bent to his eyelevel.
"What were you thinking? Are you alright?" She asked him, checking over his face for any injuries.
"I wanted to help you," Mordred spoke through his mouth.
Cassandra sighed in relief as she pulled him to her, hugging him tightly. She had been terrified that he was going to get hurt or killed by the knights. Lucas ran into the clearing, out of breath.
"We need to keep moving."
Cassandra took Mordred's hand once more as the three of them ran off deeper into the forest.
~25~
Cassandra crossed the palace courtyard tired and hungry. Their trip home had taken longer as they had waited around for some druids who had escaped the raid to collect Mordred and go with him into hiding. When they had sent him off, Iseldir had told Cassandra and Lucas that Aglain had died, killed by an arrow while trying to get Morgana away. In the end Arthur had 'saved' Morgana and returned her to Camelot.
Cassandra entered her home, where Gaius and Merlin were waiting for her at the table.
"I'm sorry." She said, wanting to be the first one to apologise. "I thought I was helping Morgana. I didn't want her to feel alone like I did."
Gaius stood from the table as Cassandra averted her eyes from him, she didn't want to face his scrutinising gaze. She was stunned when Gaius hugged her warmly.
"Aren't you mad at me?" She asked.
"I know you had Morgana's best intentions at heart," Gaius said to her as he pulled back and patted her cheek. "It may not have been the smartest decision, but I'm just glad that you are ok."
"I wish you would've told me." Merlin said with an eye roll. "I wanted to help her too, you know."
Cassandra smirked at him, "Well next time I promise to tell you about any crazy ideas I have."
"So she knows then?" Merlin asked her.
Cassandra nodded, "The Druids told her that she has magic. Gaius I know you didn't want her to find out…but if Morgana hadn't of gone, her outbursts might have gotten so bad that Uther would've started suspecting her. Now that she understands I can help her control it."
"You'd best hope you can," Gaius said in warning. "We must pray that Uther never finds out what really happened." Cassandra and Merlin exchanged nervous looks.
Cassandra left Morgana's room later that night. She had gone to see how she was and let her know that Mordred was safe. She didn't mention that Aglain had died. Cassandra knew that Morgana would've blamed herself for his death. She had fallen unconscious from her leg wound when Aglain had been killed. It was best not to make her more upset. She had expected Morgana to still be fearful about being back in Camelot, but she was pleasantly surprised to see her smiling and at peace about being back.
Cassandra had promised her that she would help her with controlling her magic, coming across as though she had learnt a few things from the Druids about magic without actually having it. Cassandra wondered if Morgana suspected that she had magic? She hadn't brought it up and Cassandra didn't really want to reveal it to her yet, but maybe in time she would.
"What are you doing sneaking around the castle?" A voice said from behind her. Cassandra turned, seeing Arthur leaning against the far wall. His blue cotton shirt untucked and his arms crossed over his chest.
"I wasn't sneaking," Cassandra defended with a smirk. "I went to see Morgana."
Arthur's expression softened slightly, "How is she?"
"Fine." Cassandra said simply. "I couldn't believe when I had heard the Druids had kidnapped her, it's not like them."
Arthur scoffed, "Yes well, people can surprise you."
"You sound like you're saying that from experience," Cassandra said knowingly. There was a large space between Arthur and Cassandra, but it felt like they were inches from each other.
"Maybe I am."
Cassandra looked away, the direction their conversation was heading wasn't pleasant. The last time they had spoken it had been about her embarrassing escapade in Gwen's home. They hadn't exactly parted on good terms.
"Did you enjoy your trip with Lucas?"
Cassandra heard the annoyance in his voice when he said Lucas' name, she didn't comment on that however, "How did you—Merlin…"
Arthur smirked, "He may be in idiot, but he does have good gossip once in a while."
"It was fine," Cassandra said. She folded her arms over her chest. "It was nice to get away from here for a while."
"So the six months away weren't enough?"
Cassandra bit down on her lip. She hadn't expected Arthur to suddenly bring up her departure from so long ago; he even looked surprised at himself for saying it. Cassandra angled her body away from him, not wanting Arthur to see the hurt on her face.
"Sorry," Arthur said quietly. "That was…I didn't mean…"
"No…it's ok." Cassandra said with a weak smile. "I kind of deserved it, didn't I? I should go now, it's late and Merlin said something about looking at his bug collection." Arthur looked absolutely disgusted at what she had said about Merlin as she chuckled, "Goodnight, sire."
Arthur nodded in reply as he watched her turn and walk down the corridor, her long red hair swaying from side to side. He watched her until she reached the end of the corridor, where for a second she glanced over her shoulder at him before she disappeared.
Sigh, when will these two realise they're being idiots. Hopefully soon *wink wink*. I am very excited for the next chapter as it is my favourite episode in the series. Thank you to those who have returned to this story after my time away, I was so surprised to see familiar names reviewing again! Thank you all so much and let me know what you think about the story!
