Devils Never Cry

Lady looked up at the sky as it the sun peeked through the dark clouds. It was over. It was finally over. She looked over at the blonde girl beside her, "Thank you for tending to my wounds." The girl smiled at her, her violet eyes gleaming in the new sunshine. "You just so happened to be there, that's all." She replied, looking back at the sky. Lady blinked then shook her head, "Where you looking for someone?" The girl nodded, "Yeah. Two actually. They're friends of mine." Lady watched her, "They don't happen to be two girls are they?" She turned to her, "What of it? Have you seen them? They've gotten themselves into some… trouble." "What kind of trouble? If I may ask." "Boy trouble." She replied. Boy trouble huh? Lady chuckled weakly and turned at the sound of shuffling feet.

It was Dante, low and behold. The fiery she demon was slung over her shoulder, she seemed lifeless. What happened back there? The girl beside her ran forward, "Kortniee!" Dante placed the Kortniee girl down as the mysterious one caught her. "Kortniee? Hey! What happened?!" she demanded. Dante looked at them, then walked up to Lady. "What a dilemma." He said, looking around.

Kortniee stared blankly ahead, as the girl shook her. "Where's Tayler?! I came as fast as I could!" she shouted, shaking her. Kortniee looked up at her, eyes widened. Brandy? "What the hell are you doing here?" she asked weakly. Her friend smiled softly, "I was looking for you two. I knew this mess had your names on it." "Brandy, I'm sorry we didn't tell you. Ta-"she choked, her throat swelled. She couldn't say her name without breaking down. Her friend's violet eyes softened, "It's ok. We'll get her back. Together." Kortniee hiccupped and hugged her tightly. " I could've saved her! Brandy, I could've brought her home!" she wailed. Brandy rubbed her back, tears threatening to leave her eyes. She should've got there sooner. She should've come out to her friends sooner about who and what she was. Tayler wouldn't be stuck in Hell if she had. Now her she was, holding the last friend she had. Brandy swore in the moment she wouldn't lose Kortniee too. Her friend's shoulders shook, "You're all I have, Brandy. Don't-""Oh you don't have to worry about me." She assured her.

Dante blinked against the bright sky, a tear slowly ran down his cheek. Damn it. Lady looked over, "Are… you crying?" she was shocked. She just met the guy but she had the feeling Dante wasn't one to cry easily. He shifted on his feet and turned away, "It's just the rain." Lady reached her hand out, but felt not one drop. "But ... the rain has stopped." She said, looking to him. "… devils never cry." He replied his back turned to her. She watched him for a moment. For a devil, he wasn't heartless. That man who looked like him. Was that his brother? Or his friend? She watched as Dante's shoulder slumped a little. "…maybe somewhere out there even devil may cry when he loses a love one." She said, then looked away, "Don't you think?" After a few moments, Dante looked up. Vergil was still gone. "Maybe." He replied.

Vergil coughed hard as Tayler rubbed his back. She didn't know what else to do for him, except offer comfort. He shook his head and looked up at her, "I'm sorry I wasn't stronger." Her eyes softened, "Vergil, you are strong. You don't need your father's power to be, not to me." "You don't understand, do you?" he replied coldly, "I could've had it all. All of it. The power, Hell, and the Human World. No one would stop me." Tayler watched as he cursed to himself and struggle to stand. She stood with him, her hand on his lower back. "Vergil... I understand just fine." She kissed his cheek and rested her forehead on his chest. He looked down at her. How could she ever understand? But something in him was ok with not having the power of Sparda. At least for now.

He held her tight and winced as the wound opened more. "Tayler…" he began. She looked up, "hmm?" He looked at her and his heart skipped slightly. Her blue eyes seemed to glow in the darkness around them. Even though they were standing in Hell, he couldn't but think she was the most beautiful thing here. "I lo-"he said but was interrupted by the ground shaking beneath them. Then a laugh shook the air, making Tayler's blood run cold. She froze and looked warily at the dark sky. There above them were three blood red orbs, lighting cracked around them. Vergil tightened his grip on her and held up his sword. It was him. His father's superior, Mundus. How could he forget that'd he would be here. He was the overlord here. "It would be fun to fight with the Prince of Darkness." He said, pushing Tayler behind him. She couldn't take her eyes off the sky. The feeling of pure evil shook her very soul. This felt very, very wrong. "If my father did it … I should be able to do it too!" he cried, and with his last words Vergil ran at the being. Determined to prove that he, a Son of Sparda, could defeat Mundas as well. The last thing Tayler remembered before passing out with fear, was watching Vergil be swatted away by a giant stone hand.
