PART TWEENTY-FIVE - The one where they don't want to know.
2 months later.
Monica and Chandler walked into the coffee house. All their friends were seated in their usual spot. They all greeted the couple happily.
"Hey guys" said Ross
"Hey" Monica replied as Chandler helped her sit down.
Monica was now six months pregnant. She had started her maternity leave from work and spent most days hanging out at her apartment or with Joey. She also had become very annoyed at the fact that people were always touching her large stomach. It had gotten to the stage where she would only allow Chandler to touch her. And even he sometimes got snapped at.
"So are you excited about today?" Rachel asked
"Excited...scared. Same thing" Chandler said with a shrug.
"Scared?" Monica asked, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"Did I say scared? I meant extremely happy" Chandler said, trying not to get into an argument.
Monica glared at him and moved to the other side of the couch, closer to Phoebe. Chandler sighed and leaned back into the couch.
"Are you guys gonna find out what sex the babies are?" Joey asked
"I never really thought about it" said Monica. She turned to Phoebe "Pheeb's what made you decide to know what the triplet's were?" she asked
"Well it wasn't up to me" replied Phoebe "Frank and Alice wanted to know"
"Oh...Ross what made you decide that you didn't want to know Carol was having a boy?" Monica asked her brother
"I guess I just wanted it to be a surprise" replied Ross. He leaned over to whisper to Chandler "If you do want it to be a surprise though don't tell Rachel"
Rachel looked down a little guilty.
"Again. I am sorry about letting it slip" she said "But it was like four years ago. Get over it"
"Oh, now I don't know what I want" Monica sighed as she folder her arms.
"Well, Honey if you did know then you could organise and plan everything" said Rachel
"Yeah" Monica agreed, a little more upbeat.
"What about you?" Joey asked Chandler "Do you want to know?"
Chandler thought for a moment and then shook his head.
"No" he said "I like the idea of it being a surprise"
Monica turned to Chandler for the first time since moving away from him.
"Really?" she asked
"Well, yeah. Just imagine when the Doctor hands you our first baby and says 'Congratulations. You have a healthy...whatever' And we're having twins so we get to be surprised twice" Chandler explained
"But, Chandler what happens if we go shopping for girl's and we have boy's?" Monica asked him
"You could have a boy and a girl" suggested Ross
"Look I said that I didn't want to know...But Mon, if you do that's okay" said Chandler
Monica thought for a minute. Then she smiled and moved over to her boyfriend once again. She placed one hand on his knee and the other on his shoulder.
"I want it to be a surprise too" she said
"Are you sure?" he asked, moving her hand from his shoulder to hold in his own hand.
"Yes. I want to find out when I first hold our children" said Monica "I want to share it with you"
Chandler smiled and they kissed.
"Can we know?" Rachel asked, interrupting the couple's kiss
"No" both Chandler and Monica replied
"Well how am I going to go shopping for the babies then?" Rachel asked with a pout
"You were gonna go shopping for them?" asked Monica, a little shocked but completely happy at the same time.
"Of course" replied Rachel
"Awe" sighed Monica
"Mon" said Chandler
"What?" she asked looking over at him "I'm not gonna change my mind. Don't worry. I just think that it's sweet"
"Yeah...me too" said Chandler
"So what are you guys going to do about shopping for the babies?" Ross asked
"Well, I guess we could just buy a few things. Make sure we buy colours that both boy's and girl's can wear" said Chandler
"So, no Pink?" Phoebe asked
"Exactly" said Chandler
He leaned closer to Monica and gently kissed her temple. Monica smiled and snuggled closer against him.
"Hey, Mon weren't you mad at Chandler a minute ago?" Joey asked
"Thanks man" Chandler hissed sarcastically
"No, Joey's right. I am mad at you" Monica told Chandler firmly
"Babe, I'm sorry" Chandler apologised. He grabbed both her hands "When I said I was scared, I just meant that...well...sometime's I still worry about you. Don't forget that you still have that...um Toxey thing"
"Toxemia" Monica corrected
"Yes, that. So I'm sorry"
"Okay" Monica said as she kissed him gently. She then looked his watch "We better get going"
"Yeah, alright" said Chandler
Chandler stood up first, then helped Monica to her feet.
"Good luck, guys" Rachel said
The couple smiled and then left the coffee house.
