An initial state of confusion washed over the young Lola Martinez. But as the time went by, only clarity developed from within. And as much as she knew that it was an aspect that she should not entertain, she knew the truth. Fight it as much as she wanted to, she did…
"I think I do like him…" She said in an almost whispered tone.
Michael looked at her defeated eyes. They stared at the park bench moments later, but he could tell that she was not liking the feeling she was currently having. "Lola, you know this isn't going to end well if you try to act on those feelings."
"I know…" She whispered again, using the same tone. Looking back at her friend, she added, "It's not like I can't stop the way I feel. I mean, he should be someone that I shouldn't have feelings for. I know how deep he is involved with Tori. How connected he is to her, and how… " She paused… "Michael, I just…"
He edged closer, and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. Hoping that she would get the hint that he was trying to be the close friend. "Every guy I like doesn't work out for me…" She whispered to him. Pulling out of his embrace, she added, "I mean, sure, dating has worked out for me some of the time, but nothing substantial ever worked out…"
Michael gave her a look, "And you think making a go at with Robbie would be…"
She interrupted him, "I don't know." She let out a sigh. "I mean, of anyone that I did ever date, I think Robbie… He's just…"
"Not available." Michael clarified. "You know that." He shook his head. "Seriously, do you want to recreate another Tori/Cat problem?"
Lola let out a breath. She knew he was right. "Of course not." She insisted. "I get it, I do. I have to get over him."
"Do you think you can do that?" Michael asked, concerned. "I know how close you are to him, and to Tori. You try and actually make an attempt with this, then you…"
"I know, Michael." Lola admitted. "I know about just how hostile Tori can get if someone tries to drive a wedge into her relationship with Robbie." She shrugged. "They both went through hell. I try anything, and… I just have to get over him."
"And you can do that?" He asked.
"I'm going to have to." Lola reasoned. "I just don't know how." She shook her head. "Who knows. If we really can't find them then maybe it'll eventually fade. I'll eventually have to get over him because we have no idea where they are." Sorrow filled her voice. "I still don't know where they are…"
Michael looked at his friend, and could understand the emotional state that she was in. Ever since Tori came to PCA, there was an anomicity toward each other. It was easily understandable. Anyone who found out that there was a 'double' out there that not only looked like herself, but to find out that she had a history of mental problems was a dangerous situation for anyone to endure…
It was ever a wonder that the two of them actually found some common ground. But during those two weeks when Tori was alone, Lola couldn't help but want to understand the reasoning behind Tori's problems. Sure, her gut instinct was telling her to stay away from the 'crazy twin,' and for a while, she did listen to her inner musings.
But what did bring Lola over the hurdle of avoiding Tori's behavior?
Zoey Brooks...
Zoey actually asked Lola to wake Tori up so she could go make an appointment with her therapist. At first Lola resisted, but Zoey just said to wake her up. That's all. And eventually, Lola agreed to wake her from her troubling slumber. And when she did wake up Tori, she got a full face of an agitated, reckless, deprived young woman. Lola immediately tried to pull away, but when Tori finally started to gain some composure, she quickly apologized. Tori finally told Lola what was really happening in her life as an attempt to finally make some peace between the two of them…
And it was just enough…
Lola finally listened. She listened to Tori detail the remifications of her last week at home, and even the two weeks at Yerba. Finally letting her in on the reality of her quote unquote insanity. And allowing her to tell her just how much her boyfriend, Robbie Shapiro, broke through her troubled state, and finally find some solace.
Robbie Shapiro was her savior, her present boyfriend, and the one person who understood just how screwed up she was…
Lola understood.
Finally.
"This must be hard for you." He said to her, his voice soft.
Lola looked up at his caring eyes, and could see the friend that he's always been for her; ever since she came to PCA all those years ago, how helpful, friendly, and understanding…
Michael Berret was a great friend, a best friend. And if anyone who really didn't have close ties to the Vegas, then that would be him. Sure, Jade's words of warning were crucial, and she knew that she was right. In order to keep Tori and Robbie out of the grasp of the Vegas, she had to remain quiet…
But she did have to tell someone. She did have to finally get another set of eyes to help look at her predicament. With Jade? Jade at least had her boyfriend who knew what was happening to some degree. Who did Lola Martinez have?
No one…
She let out a breath…
"Michael?" He looked at her. "I want to tell you something…"
"Wait. You mean, you knew about this, and you didn't tell anyone?" He asked, shocked by what Lola told him.
"It's not like they had a choice." Lola pointed out. "Tori was in a difficult decision, and she made a judgment call."
"Yeah, a bad one." He admitted. "Lola, Tori and Robbie just up and left. They didn't think about the consequences. They just left. They just…"
She cut him off. "They did what they had to do." Lola got to his feet and looked down at him. "Look, I'm like you. I don't like that they did this. It's driving everyone crazy, but I honestly think I do know why they did it. And I spent enough to know that whenever, and I mean whenever their love comes into question, they come together and pull off some amazing things."
"Amazing things?" Michael asked. "How can do anything amazing? They ran away from home. They…"
"They survived, Michael." Lola interrupted. "They were imprisoned in another country, trapped, and stranded. They were barely holding themselves together when Robbie was in the hospital and when Tori almost got raped! Hell, they both almost got raped! And if they can survive that, than I think they can survive out there!"
"Lola, they're sixteen. There's no way they can make it on their own." He told her, trying to reason to with her.
"Love doesn't care about age." She argued. "Who cares that they are only sixteen years old?!"
"Reality." He identified. "If you are sixteen, then you ARE NOT considered an adult by law. They're still teenagers, and their parents are doing what's best for them!"
"I get that. I do." Lola said, agreeing; finally letting her voice calm down. "Mr. and Mrs. Vega are great parents." She then took the moment and sat back down on the bench, "But the fact remains. They have no idea. They can't fathom the love Robbie and Tori have for each other. Sure, they say that they lose all reason, and that they get obsessed. But what they don't understand is just how connected they are to one another. They have a love that is worth fighting to keep safe, pure, and alive…"
Michael couldn't help but notice just how drawn out she got toward the end of her last sentence… "Lola…"
She looked up at him. Tears starting to well in her eyes. "I really have no chance…" She smirked. "I am not going to be the one that would break them, Michael. I can't be." Lola shook her head. "And Mr. and Mrs. Vega aren't either."
"Lola, they know that Tori and Robbie will stop at nothing to stay together." Michael said to her, keeping his tone matched with hers. "They're just worried about them, and they want them home. You need to tell them what you know."
"I can't."
"Why not?" He asked.
Lola let out a breath. "Because, Michael. I am one of Robbie's girls. I may not agree with how everything went down, but I won't be the one to wreck it for them."
"Lola, think about what you're saying."
She smirked. "Believe me, I have. This has been driving me crazy all day." She placed a hand on his lap. "And I need you not to say anything."
"Lola…"
"Please, Michael." He let out a breath, not pleased with her attitude. "At least give them some time."
"What you're asking… Lola, that's allot. They have a right to know what you do."
She let out a breath. "Then at least let them come home on their own." Michael didn't like her suggestion. "Ok, how bout this. Give them a couple days. If they don't get in touch with them, then I'll them know what I do." She shrugged. "Which by the way, isn't much compared to what they already do know."
"That doesn't matter. They should know any lead they can get." He paused for a second. "They don't know where they are, and they don't know if they safe or anything like that. They don't have that type of money."
Then her eyes widened…
Money…
Jade did say that they had to get some advice. And who would they turn to if money was a scenario that they had to deal with…
Lola had to go find Logan.
She got to her feat. "Michael. I got to go. Something just came up."
"Lola, I…"
"I'll talk to you later, Michael." She wrapped her arms around him, and kissed his cheek. "Thanks, Michael. You helped me allot." She then started to head for an unknown area with her phone coming out of her pocket. "Bye!"
Then she left, leaving a confused Michael Barret.
