Chapter 25- I Guess I Still Care…But Only a Little!
~Chase's POV~
"Now what should I get…lilies? Sunflowers? No…daisies?" I muttered to myself, lost in my own little world. I could tell Ruth was staring at me like I was crazy, but I really didn't give two shits. I needed to get some flowers. "Maybe some roses?"
I had no freaking idea why I was buying her flowers. I couldn't think logically these days. Kathy, who hadn't talked to me at all lately aside from telling me the customer's orders, finally said something to me earlier this week.
She was muttering under her breath and pacing back and forth, driving me absolutely crazy. She had run out of the bar faster than a bullet about ten minutes ago for no apparent reason. When the door had opened once again, she strode in and just began pacing.
"That idiot…can't watch over Coryn…boys are so incompetent! If only I was a guy…be much better if I could take care of her…nah, that'd be weird…" Kathy mumbled rather loudly. My eyebrows scrunched together. Coryn? Did she say Coryn? Was something wrong with her? I started freaking out a bit on the inside, but maintained my usual cool demeanor.
I walked over to Kathy and tapped her shoulder insistently. She snapped out of her reverie and turned to face me. When she realized it was me, she scowled and wiped her shoulder. I rolled my eyes at her stupid antics.
"What do you want Chase? Can't you see I'm a bit busy mumblin' here? She grumbled.
"And what exactly are you mumbling about, Kath?" I asked sarcastically.
"First off, NEVER call me that. And second, why the hell would I tell you?!" she yelled in my face, making Hayden, who was over at the counter, glance over at us and raise an eyebrow. I sighed heavily.
"What wrong with Coryn?" I questioned irately.
"Why should I tell you? And why would you care anyway?" Kathy spat icily. I winced a bit at the coldness in her tone.
"I was…just wondering…" I said slowly, trying not to provoke her more than necessary.
"Well, for your information, asshole, Coryn fell out of a tree! Now her foot's all broken and she'll have to walk around on crutches!" she screamed at me, becoming increasingly angry. Then she kicked my shin and sprinted to her room in the back of the bar.
I bit back a curse. Her kick hurt like a b*tch. Stupid cowgirl boots of hers. I huffed in frustration. For some reason, I felt nervous and anxious. I wanted to see how Coryn was doing. But I couldn't face her…not now.
So instead, I decided to get her some flowers to place on her doorstep. It was the best I could do.
I walked up to her small farm, a small bouquet of peonies, lavenders and lilacs balanced on my left hand like a tray. I really couldn't decide on which flowers I wanted, so I picked three at random that looked semi-nice when put together. I'd placed them nicely in a glass vase Ruth gave me and filled it with water.
Once I got there and was almost to her house, I heard a sound coming from the barn. I felt my chest clench in anxiety. Then I saw Renee walking out of the barn with a bag of what looked like fodder. She locked the door behind her. Then she began walking in my direction.
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath. In a spur of the moment decision, I dove into a rather pointy bush, thankfully not breaking the glass vase or squishing the flowers in the process.
"Is someone there?" Renee said aloud, a bit of concern laced into her voice. I held my breath while crouching in that uncomfortable prickly bush as a precaution. After a couple seconds, Renee simply shrugged and began making her way towards the path to Flute Fields. Once she was out of sight, I began extracting myself and my clothes from the bush. I shook my head to rid it of small leaves, but it really didn't do much.
Holding the delicate vase in both of my hands, I gently lowered it onto the doorstep. I made sure it was in a spot where she would notice them so she wouldn't end up stepping on them and hurting herself even more. She was kind of a klutz, after all.
I turned and started to leave once they were in place.
I didn't leave a note or anything. I didn't want her to think I actually still cared about her.
Because I don't. Really.
Oh Chase...You're such a conflicted person. Poor guy.
Haha:)
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! Remember...tell me which team your on in the poll on my profile page! :)
