Temporal Paradox

The Megapod shot across the surface of the Cortex.

"Come on Odd. I'm sure you can go even faster," said Jeremy.

"Don't worry Jeremy. There's more where that came from!" They accelerated.

"You're 23 seconds ahead of Yumi and 37 ahead of Aelita."

"Brace yourselves, it's going to be a bumpy ride," warned Odd as he shot out of the gap and skidded to a halt next to the dome.

"Transferring you."

As soon as they got out of the Megapod, they started to run.

"Go, go, go!" shouted Odd. Aelita unlocked the door as they reached it and they entered.

"It's done Jeremy," said Aelita as they reached the terminal.

"Twenty two minutes and twelve seconds. It's a new record. Well done Odd."

"Yes!"

"If we ever have to put a virus in Tyron's supercomputer in a hurry, you'll be driving the Megapod Odd," continued Jeremy.

"I know, I'm the boss."

"Mother nature is amazing," said Yumi as she looked at the picture. "Not only is Tyron a villain, but he also looks like a villain."

"You've got that right Yumi," agreed Harry. "Though he can't help how he looks."

"Ok Ulrich, get ready. It's your turn."

"Hey, Jeremy, you could upload a turbo so Ulrich might stand a chance of beating me," suggested Odd.

"Or you could upload a trunk for Odd to lock his jokes away in," retorted Ulrich.

"Guys, focus! Training's not over!"

"Uh, Jeremy, was that normal?" asked Aelita as the Megapod vanished. "The Megapod just disappeared!"

"No, that's not normal at all. I'll send it back to you." Jeremy tied to do that but it didn't work. "Uh, there's a huge bug here and I have no idea where it's coming from."

"Uh, what should we do Jeremy?" asked Yumi.

"I think we'll just stop training for today."

"But, um, a little question. How do we come back?" asked Ulrich.

"You use your legs. Why do you think you have them?" asked Harry.

"Oh, wow. Nice training session Jeremy," moaned Odd. "Remind me not to come next time."

"Really funny Odd. I love your humour."

"Well, that wasn't really humour," muttered Odd as they started to walk back to the Skid.

Kadic

"So you reconfigured the system?" asked Aelita.

"Yes, of course. I tried everything last night. I don't understand where this bug is coming from. I can't materialise any vehicles. I was working on this the whole night."

"Weren't you running a program alongside the Megapod last night?" asked Harry as he sat down.

"I'm going back."

"What about gym?" asked Ulrich.

"I am excused." Jeremy raised his arm to show the cast. "The only advantage of having a sprained wrist."

"I'll come with you." Harry smiled slightly as one of his clones took his place. "After all, my clones are me."

"Cheater," grumbled Ulrich. "And I'm worried Jeremy might sprain his brain."

Aelita laughed.

Later

"Come on! Call me, call me, call me!"

"Um, Odd?" asked Ulrich as the boy paid more attention to his phone than his surroundings. "Are you alright?"

"I can't talk to you right now. I'm expecting a really important call."

"A girl?" asked Aelita with a smile.

"No, better than that! I have an amazing tip for the Pumpkins Machine concert! A friend of mine is going to call me to tell me if there are still tickets," explained Odd. Aelita and Ulrich looked confused. "The Pumpkins Machine! It's going to be HUGE, EPIC, an amazing concert!"

He stepped back and knocked into Laura.

"Hey, watch it!"

"Sorry Laura."

He helped her collect her stuff.

"Alright kids!" yelled Jim as the bell rang. "The time for relaxing is over! Get in and be quiet!"

Laura frowned as she picked up the card she got from Graven. She quickly hid it inside her book.

"I'm warning you, you better keep it down today!" warned Jim. "I didn't sleep last night because of a mouse or a mongoose and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm in a bad mood."

Odd pulled out his phone as it rang.

"Della Robbia, where do you think you are?!" yelled Jim.

"It's important sir," protested Odd as Jim strode over to him. "I have to pick up."

"Your phone." Odd reluctantly gave it to him. "Confiscated."

"Sorry Odd," whispered Harry.

"I'm sure you'll get it back," said Luna.

Lab

"And now for the moment of truth." Jeremy pressed a button. "Yes, it's working! A conflict with the scan reader. I should have thought about it earlier."

The Megapod appeared on the Cortex.

"Things would go my way seeing how awesome I am!"

Harry slapped him on the back off the head before looking at the holomap as a tower activated.

"We can't have a moment of peace, can we?"

"Nope. That's how it is with Xana online."

"Xana's attacking in the Cortex. I'll call the others."

Kadic

"So there's absolutely no way?" asked Odd into the phone. "Ok, well, thanks anyway. Bye."

He put it away. "I missed the concert of the century. I'm so gutted. I was this close to paradise."

Luna reached up and pecked him on the cheek, causing him to blush. "I'm sure you'll find a way."

"He's calling me back, he's calling me back! That's a good sign!" Odd eagerly pulled out his phone as it rang again. "Oh no, it's Jeremy. I'm listening."

"Odd, you need to come. A tower activated on the Cortex!"

"What is it? A network attack? A spectre?"

"No idea but there's no way we're risking it. We need to deactivate it."

"Ok, we're on our way."

They walked towards the lab as Jeremy sent Yumi a text.

"Damn. An alert."

"And what should we do about the chemistry test?" asked William.

"I don't know… What should I do?"

"Go on. I'll find something to show the teacher."

Lyoko

"Jeremy, how are we going to travel the Cortex without the Megapod?" asked Aelita as they appeared on Lyoko.

"Yes, that's true," agreed Odd. "Don't tell me that we're going to wall because I still have virtual blisters on my feet."

"Stop being such a pansy Odd," said Harry with a sigh.

"Don't panic guys. I debugged the whole thing. It was a conflict between the scan reader and software that I just installed," explained Jeremy.

"I have nothing to say, you're the best Jeremy," said Yumi as she arrived.

"Where's Sissi?" asked Odd randomly. "I haven't seen her for a few days."

"Didn't you know? She has the flu," explained Aelita.

Digital sea

"Jeremy, do you know more about the attack?" asked Aelita as she piloted the Skid between the upside down buildings.

"No, I'm detecting nothing."

"Are you sure that it's not a new bug in the system?" asked Ulrich.

"And if it's coming from the Cortex, how do we know it's not Tyron who's activated the tower?" asked Harry.

"It's still weird, that story," commented Odd.

"Yeah, I know but it's not like we have much choice."

Kadic

"A quantum physics lab," muttered Laura as she dialled the number on the card.

"Hello, I'm listening."

"Hello, I'm Laura Gauthier, a student at Chadic Academy and I'm very passionate about Quantum physics."

"How did you get our contact details?"

"I found them on a card in my bag…"

"In your bag? That's very interesting. Our director will contact you. Are you free for an interview at one o'clock through a webcam?"

Laura's face light up.

Cortex

"Jeremy, I have a visual of the tower," said Odd as they screeched to a halt.

"It's bizarre, there's not welcoming committee," said Ulrich as they found no sign of any monsters.

"I can confirm that, there's no signal of any of Xana's monsters." Jeremy transferred them out of the Megapod.

"Huh? Jeremy, it's bizarre, the tower is…. Violet," said Yumi as they stared at the oddly coloured tower.

"Violet?" asked a surprised Jeremy.

"Yeah, you know like the Pumpkin Machine costumes," explained Ulrich.

"Ha ha," said Odd. "Very funny. I'm dead laughing."

"Harry's right then. It has to be Tyron. That's why there's no attack from Xana. Be on your guard for ninjas. I can see them on the screen."

They prepared to fight as seven ninjas rose from the path and attacked them.

"Seven ninjas? Why seven?" asked Harry.

"Seven against five, it's a little unbalanced don't you think?" asked Odd. "Are you scared of us or what?"

The ninjas continued to attack but then stopped and surrounded them in a circle.

"What are they doing?" asked Aelita.

"I don't know." Ulrich attacked but the ninja kicked him, sending him back into the circle. A giant sphere formed from the ground up and started to surround them.

"What is this thing?" asked a panicking Odd.

Harry jumped out of the circle as did Yumi. Once the sphere had fully formed, the ninjas dematerialised and the two approached it.

"Jeremy, there's this kind of sphere which has formed on the others," said Yumi.

"A sphere?"

"Tyron set a trap," added Harry.

Kadic

"I'm warning you, you better keep it down today!" warned Jim. "I didn't sleep last night because of a mouse or a mongoose and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm in a bad mood."

Odd pulled out his phone as it rang.

"Della Robbia, where do you think you are?!" yelled Jim.

"What? I honestly don't know what's going on."

"Your phone." Odd reluctantly gave it to him. "Confiscated."

"I'm sure you'll get it back," said Luna.

"Well, today we have a rope demonstration." Jim grabbed one and started to climb.

"I don't believe it, we returned to this morning," said Aelita.

"But what is this madness?" asked Ulrich softly.

A light flashed and the scene repeated.

"I'm warning you, you better keep it down today!" warned Jim. "I didn't sleep last night because of a mouse or a mongoose and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm in a bad mood."

Odd's phone rang again.

"Della Robbia, where do you think you are?!" yelled Jim.

"We're caught in a temporal loop," explained Aelita.

Cortex

"Do you hear me? Odd, Ulrich, Aelita? Answer me, please!"

"Yumi, I've lost their signal. It's like they've disappeared from the Cortex," said Jeremy. "I don't understand. That can't happen. What is this sphere?"

Harry rubbed his head. "I'm getting some weird signals from my clone. It's like it's repeating the same cluster of memoires again and again. Do you think Tyron could be doing something to try to track down our location?"

"It's possible."

Kadic

"Only a quantum computer can bend space-time. There aren't very many," explained Aelita quietly as the scene repeated. "So who can we send to get Jeremy to help...?"

"You're funny, you! And how do we prevent it in the future" asked Odd. "It doesn't have a spatiotemporal telephone!"

Just then, his phone rang.

"Della Robbia, where do you think you are?!" yelled Jim.

"I know! To call the Jeremy of the future, we have to call the Jeremy of the present!" Aelita exclaimed quietly.

Lab

"So what's happening?" asked William as he entered the lab. "How's it going?"

"Bad. We have a big problem. Aelita, Odd and Ulrich are trapped in a sphere created by Tyron," explained Jeremy as William froze.

"A sphere?"

"I'll explain alter. Get to the scanners, the Skid is on site. I'll send you straight to the Cortex."

Kadic

"I'm warning you, you better keep it down today!" warned Jim. "I didn't sleep last night because of a mouse or a mongoose and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm in a bad mood."

"Jeremy, it's Odd," Odd said into his phone.

"Della Robbia, where do you think you are?!" yelled Jim. Odd ignored him.

"We have a very big problem."

The class started to laugh.

"He mocks me!"

"We're stuck in a time loop," continued Odd. "I assure you it's true!"

Jim knocked Odd onto the mat, causing him to lose the phone. "You will not have a punishment, you will have the punishment."

"You know what Jim? I don't care."

"What do you mean; a temporal loop?" asked Harry.

"I forgot you had a clone here Harry. We're stuck in a loop created by Tyron," explained Aelita. There was a flash.

Lab

"Now where was I? Ah, yes. This may be a conflict between the scan reader and a piece of software I installed recently."

"I told you it was because of that."

Cortex

Yumi sent her fans against the sphere but they did nothing.

"That can't be possible!"

"Tyron made this thing?" asked an impressed William as he arrived. "It's worse than Xana."

"The others are trapped inside this thing and we can't get in touch with them," said an annoyed Yumi.

"Uh, calm down Yumi," said Harry as he tried to placate her. William approached the sphere and touched it.

"What is it made of?"

"It's indestructible but I don't know what it's made of," said Yumi.

"That could be anything here," added Harry.

"Indestructible? Really?"

"Yep."

William started to rain blows on the sphere but stopped once he got out of breath. "I don't understand, there's not even a scratch."

Harry send a shuriken at it and it exploded. Nothing happened.

"I wasn't expecting that to do anything," he explained as the other two stared at him.

"What do we do Jeremy?" asked Yumi.

"I don't know. I managed to get some data, it's like this sphere doesn't exist.

Kadic

Laura glanced at the clock as it changed to one o'clock. A phone symbol appeared on her tablet and she pressed it. The screen changed to show Tyron.

"Miss Gauthier?"

"Err, yes."

"How did you get the card for my business?"

"I found it by chance in my bag," explained Laura.

"You should know that chance doesn't' exist Miss Gauthier. So, like that, you're interested in quantum physics?"

"Yes, it's been my passion for years."

"That is a very original passion. You feel that you're too good for a place in your school? I created my centre for people like you. When you have a superior intelligence, you need a stimulation environment and the right tools. Like for instance, a supercomputer."

"I would dream of working on a supercomputer…"

"You've never seen one?" asked Tyron as his face tightened.

"No, never."

"That is unfortunate."

Laura looked confused.

Gym

The loop returned to the start.

"I'm warning you, you better keep it down today!" warned Jim. "I didn't sleep last night because of a mouse or a mongoose and I'd rather not talk about it. I'm in a bad mood."

Odd pulled out his phone as he ran away. "Jeremy? It's Odd. Listen to me, it's important!"

"Does he think that he's more important than I am?" asked Jim as he chased Odd. The students laughed.

"Please don't leave Jeremy!" Odd put his phone in his pocket and climbed up the rope to the surprise of everyone.

"Get down from there Della Robbia!"

"Jeremy, we're stuck in a time loop," explained Odd as he reached the top. "We're trapped by Tyron!"

"A time loop?" asked Jeremy. "Is this another one of your jokes Odd?"

"No Jeremy, I promise you. A mission messed up and we got stuck in the past! Well, this for you!" Jim started to climb up the rope. "Listen, I know the future! The bug, it's a conflict between the scan reader and software you just installed!"

He dropped the phone as Jim shook the rope.

"No!"

The sequence restarted.

Lab

"How can he know about the scan reader?" muttered Jeremy. "I haven't told them about it. So they are stuck in a time loop. I have to send my future self a message…"

Cortex

Yumi paced in front of the sphere as Harry and William waited by the Megapod.

"There has to be a way to destroy the sphere," muttered Yumi.

"There's no way, we tried everything," said a defeated William before looking at the Megapod. "The Megapod! We haven't tried the Megapod! Jeremy, can you transfer us?"

Jeremy did that.

"What are you trying to do?" asked Yumi as they appeared inside the vehicle.

"Use the hard way."

William fired at the sphere but it did nothing.

"It has no effect," commented Yumi. William continued to fire like a madman.

"William, stop. Yumi's right," said Jeremy. William stopped and sighed in disappointment.

"How about we try to do the same thing that happened with the Megapod earlier?" asked Harry.

"I'll transfer you back out." He did that as he muttered to himself. "There has to be a way. There has to be a solution."

A message symbol appeared on the screen.

"What's this?" He clicked on it and read the message. "A message to me from me? It's sent at 10:35 that I receive at 13:35. Odd, Ulrich and Aelita are stuck in a time loop. A time loop? That's it! I know why there's no signal from the others! They're in a time loop! A temporal bubble!"

"What do you mean, a temporal bubble?" asked William.

"They're stuck at one moment in time," explained Harry. "Tyron bent space-time around them and kept them there."

"Yes, at Kadic!"

"But why trap us in a loop?" asked William.

"Theoretically, Tyron could work on the same time sequence," said Harry thoughtfully. "And if they keep repeating the same cluster of moments, he'll have a repeating signal from Kadic so he could track us down."

"That means he'll be able to locate us," said Yumi. A horn blasted and the ground began to shake and tilt. The three started to slide down the slope. William looked up and saw the sphere rolling towards them.

"Oh no! The sphere!"

The sphere picked up speed.

"IT's gaining ground!" shouted Yumi as she noticed a hole in it. "Jeremy, there's a hole in the sphere!"

"A hole? Don't fall in!"

They jumped onto another slope and the sphere followed them. They reached the end and Yumi found a relief in the wall. Harry flew up but William got engulfed by the opening.

"No!"

"William!" Hurry tried to go back but Yumi grabbed him.

"There's nothing you can do. Jeremy, William was absorbed by the sphere!"

The sphere continued its course until it stopped by a block.

Kadic

Odd started to call Jeremy again when William appeared next to him. "William? You also got yourself trapped?"

"We're stuck in a time loop," explained Aelita.

"I know. The others are going to try and get us out of here."

Jim froze as he saw William. "Dunbar? Where did you come from?"

Lab

"Yumi, Harry, if my calculations are correct, Tyron only need four more loops before the signal is accurate enough to tell him where we are," said Jeremy as he finished the calculations.

"And what do we do?" asked Yumi.

"I don't know."

"Well, time travel takes a lot of energy. That's why we don't use the return to the past too often," said Harry. "If we divert the energy for long enough, we could break the loop."

"Yeah, that would work. Get to the dome. You have to beat Odd's record."

He transferred the two and Harry took the controls.

"Why is he driving?" asked Yumi.

"Well, he goes the fastest. You know the Overjet? On full power, you wouldn't stand a chance of getting anywhere Yumi but Harry would."

"Here we go!" Yumi screamed as Harry drove the Megapod towards the centre.

"There's only three time loops left. When you get to the terminal, you need to insert a key packed with programs that conflict each other."

The two nodded as they teleported out of the Megapod and ran into the heart. Jumping down to the terminal, Harry inserted the key. The codes started running as three ninjas appeared.

"We have visitors," said Yumi as the two prepared to fight.

"Keep the program running. It needs a bit more time."

"I don't know if we can make it…" Harry stabbed one from behind before kicking another in the head.

"One more time loop…."

The cortex suffered a drop in voltage as it went dark.

"Jeremy, it's working! The Cortex is losing energy!"

"Super!"

The sphere exploded, releasing the four trapped inside.

"Yess!"

"Checkmate!" exclaimed Yumi. "Goodbye dear Gentlemen!"

Harry stabbed the last two.

"You know, I'd never thought I'd say this but I'm glad to see the good old Cortex," said Odd.

"You are too much," said Aelita with a headshake.

"Yeah, really too much," agreed Ulrich.

Later

"We got very close there," said Jeremy. "Tyron was on the verge of locating us. Harry, Yumi, thank you."

Harry rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Yeah, you're totally covered," agreed Ulrich.

"You know, we were lucky that you had that sprain," said Odd. "You'd be in gym and we'd be stuck with Jim the terrible forever! I say thank you to your sprain!"

Everyone laughed.

Kadic

"In fact, your knowledge of quantum physics is very theoretical, Miss Gauthier. I waste my time. I look for people with knowledge of… how to say this? More practical experience." Tyron paused then images of the Lyoko Warriors' avatars appeared on Laura's tablet. "Do you recognise these people?"

Laura studied them. "They look like caricatures of Jeremy's Belpois' gang."

"Jeremy Belpois?"

"He's a student in my class and he's also interested in quantum physics but uh… I'm smarter than he is though one of his friends, Harry, is even smarter though he doesn't show it… and, uh…"

"Thank you, Miss Gauthier. This interview has been productive," cut in Tyron. A small, satisfied smile appeared on his face before he hung up.

Harry

"Jeremy, we have a problem."

"What Harry?"

"Tyron called someone at this school. I have a feeling he knows where we are now."

"What?"
