Chapter 25 Class 2 Nonverbal Wandless Magic
During lunch the main topic of conversation between all of the sixth years was their first class of the day and how easy she had made using wandless magic for them, and the fun that they had, had that morning. On hearing their conversations the seventh years couldn't help getting excited as well. By the time that lunch was over the seventh year students all were just as excited to about the new class.
After kissing Michelle and Davey as they snuggled in their beds for their afternoon nap, Pamela walked happily to her classroom for her next class of the day. The seventh year's students were lined up in the hall outside of the classroom so she waved he hand and the door to the classroom opened allowing the students to enter. "Don't just stand there, please enter the classroom and take a seat," she said as she walked up behind them quietly making a few of them jump in surprise.
Hermione and Draco instantly took the Slytherin and Gryffindor colored seats closest to the front of the class and a few of the others quickly chose seats in their respective house colors. As Pamela entered her class room she noticed that many of the students hadn't taken a seat, but instead stood there in confusion. "The colored seats and desks are to aid in school and house unity. Please take any seat that you wish in your house color."
"Do not try to sit in any seat that is not in your house color or attempt to move any desks around or there will be consequences," she started just as Ron and Lavender tried to sit together at the same desk. Lavender had taken a seat in one of the Gryffindor colored desk while Ron tried to sit in a Ravenclaw colored seat next to her. He was unable to Blue and silver desk, and was thrown onto his backside when he tried to simply sit in the seat.
"Mr. Weasley please take another seat at another desk," said Pamela as Cho Chang gently squeezed passed him and slid into the blue chair making his jaw drop. Ron looked around and saw that the only desk available was one that was occupied by Millicent Bulstrode.
"But Professor Malfoy, I don't want to sit next to Millicent Bulstrode or any Slytherin for that matter," he said crossing his arms defiantly.
"Mr. Weasley, My husband is a Slytherin, my best friends are a Hufflepuff, and a Gryffindor, and my many times great grandparents are Salazar Slytherin, and Godrick Gryffindor. If they can get along, than so can you now please take your seat," she said leaning against her desk with narrowed eyes.
"No, I won't do it," snarled Ron angrily.
"Fine that stay standing and you will help me demonstrate how to cast both wandlessly and nonverbally," he said as she stood straighter and leveled her eyes on the boy.
"Class anything that you can cast with your wand, you can cast nonverbally and wandessly. I will show you first and then we will take this one step at a time. She smiled sweetly at Ron and suddenly he turned around and quietly walked over to the only available desk, took a seat and took out a roll of parchment and his quill. Pamela relaxed her gaze and smiled sweetly.
"That, class was nothing more than a simple confundus charm. "Mr. Weasley you man speak now, and you will join me in my office after the completion of all of your classes today for detention, and I will be writing your mother about your behavior. Class please take out your quills and a blank piece of parchment," she said as she pointed her finger to the blackboard and words appeared.
Before we get to the fun, I'd like each and every one of you to write your name, and house, followed by the one spell that you personally find easiest for you to cast, the spell that you personally find hardest to cast, and a spell that you would like to learn to cast wandlessly and nonverbally. Once you are finished writing your parchments will vanish from your desks and appear on the parchment box on mine," please get to it," she said as she walked to look out a window at the grounds below.
Once the last parchment had appeared on her desk there was a knock at the door and she opened it from her place in front of her desk without even stopping her conversation to the class or drawing her wand. "Welcome to my class Headmistress, how can I help you," she asked with a smile at the older witch?
"Professor's Malfoy and Runyon informed me of how your first class went and I wanted to see your teaching style for myself. Is that alright," she asked?
"Its fine, Headmistress, You can sit my desk and observe if you'd like I won't need it for the rest of the class" she said making her chair change into a comfy armchair.
Minerva took the offered seat and watched as Mrs. Malfoy continued her class. "Alright, now class before we begin is there anyone who does not sufficiently understand how to cast a spell nonverbally? Please be truthful as if you need help I will offer tutoring and help anyone who feels that they need help in that area," she said as she waited expectantly. No one raised their hand so she smiled and went on with her class. "So be it class, since none of you have stepped forward and admitted that you need help with nonverbal magic, from this day on, any spell that you cast must be nonverbal. No excuses and I promise that I will know if you break this rule," she said as nonverbally and wandlessly summoned a note that Ron was attempting to pass to Lavender Brown.
She opened the note and read it before making it vanish into her robe pocket. "Mr. Weasley you've just added another week to your detention, and have lost twenty points from Gryffindor. Now may I have a volunteer to try their first wandless nonverbal spell," she asked as she looked around the room? Nevil raised his hand attentively.
"Please come up here Mr. Longbottom. We'll start easy, what is a spell that you can cast the easiest nonverbally," she asked with a smile?
"Um I-I can cast the patronus charm nonverbally," he said looking down at his feet nervously.
"Really, would you please demonstrate for the class," asked Pamela backing up to give him room to move? Nevil nodded and cast his patronus charm.
A silvery dog erupted from the tip of his wand and the class, who never imagined that it was even possible to cast that particular spell nonverbally all clapped. "Very good Mr. Longbottom, now I'm going to show you how you can cast that spell both wandlessly and nonverbally," she said as she flicked her wrist and her Arabian horse patronus materialized from nothing and galloped around the room before vanishing before their eyes.
"Now, you all know that to cast nonverbally all that you have to do is to clear your mind, and think the words to the incantation that you used as if you had spoken them, and preform the wand movements just as you would had you actually spoken the incantation. Now we will take that a step further. To cast wandlessly you can either stand completely still or can mimic the wand movement with your finger. For the time being until you get the hang of it I want you to try to cast your patronus charm without using your wand."
Nevil handed his Professor his wand for safe keeping and tried to cast his spell without his wand. Everyone gasped in shock as his silver dog patronus appeared out of nowhere and bounded around his head happily than vanished as he lost concentration. "I did it, I actually did it," he said excitedly!
"Yes you did Mr. Longbottom ten points to Gryffindor. Please take your seat. Now I think it's time for you all to try and to have a little fun as we learn. For this exercise we are going to use the wingardium Leviosa charm on these bean bags," she said as a box floated around the room and a bean bag floated out and landed on each desk.
"Put your wands away, please then I'd like each of you to levitate your bean bag using what was discussed." Once all of the students had managed to get their beanbag into the air she asked the students to get out of their desks and the desks vanished. "Now please stand in a large circle, it's time to get some fun practice," said Pamela as she entered the center of the circle.
When I give the word you may wandlessly and nonverbally make your bean bags fly at me. Whoever is unable to make their bean bag move from the ground without using their wand and words, will take my place in the center of the circle. If everyone is able to make their bean bag move, the one who tosses the beanbag that gets through my defenses will take my place in the center. If the beanbag that I deflect away from me hits you, you have to take my place, or the place of the one who deflected the beanbag. If you are unlucky enough to take my place, you must nonverbally and wandlessly cast your shield charm to deflect the beanbags," said Pamela as she crossed her arms and waited for the first beanbag to fly.
The students looked at each other uncertain if they should toss a beanbag at their professor when Minerva decided to see for herself exactly how good Pamela was and grabbed a beanbag from the box and tried to toss it at Pamela's head. She had seen the older witch out of the corner of her eye and without even blinking the beanbag stopped inches from her face and she smiled.
"You surprise me Headmistress McGonagall; I never thought that I'd have to defend myself against my employer today. I'd toss this back at you if I wasn't worried about getting fired," she smiled as the beanbag flew across the room and halted inches from Minerva's forehead.
"This is for teaching purposes, lets show the class what they will be capable of once they have completed your course," she said as she took half of the beanbags from the ground in front of the students and made them levitate in front of her in preparation for her attack.
For the next five minutes the lass rooted for their new professor and their headmistress as they sent beanbags flying back and forth at each other laughing. Finally Minerva was down to one beanbag and was over powered by Pamela who had gained control of all of the other beanbags and bombarded the older witch with them.
"Do you give up now headmistress or shall I turn you over to my class," asked Pamela as the beanbags floated over the old witches head?
"I give up, let the class have their turn while the two of us talk," said Minerva letting her beanbag drop to the floor. The beanbag instantly floated with the others to the students who took over the game laughing as they let the beanbags fly.
While the class was having fun with their practice just as the sixth years before them, Minerva and Pamela talked. They discussed Pamela's arrangement of the students and her way of making the classes not only extremely educational, but fun for the students as well. She commented on how it had been a long time since she had seen so many students smile and laugh after attending a single class, and wanted Pamela to help in planning major changes to the way that Hogwarts classes were held and handled. Pamela agreed to share her ideas at the next staff meeting, and smiled as the bell to signal the end of class rang out.
"Your homework for tonight is to practice the one spell that each find the easiest for to preform nonverbally. By Friday, I expect you to all have mastered casting that spell wandlesly and nonverbally. On Friday we will have each of you demonstrate your spell for the class," she said as the students gathered their things and left the room chattering excitedly.
