Lost Along the Way
Chapter 25, Blackbird
Kye dragged her feet on the train track. They had been walking for what seemed forever. Her tongue glided between her plump chapped lips, glancing over at the trio beside her. Faint hissing and groaning came from several feet in front of them. The group glanced over toward the sound, each of them slowly taking a breath. It was too far to do any harm at the moment.
Kye scoffed to herself, a slick grin on her face, glancing at the trio again
"Hey... Hey guys." Kye whispered, nudging Carl. The three looked over at her. Kye glanced over at the walker one more time before turning back to them and whispering "I see dead people."
Carl shook his head, causing the loose stands of his chocolate hair to fall from it sticky place on his skin from the sweat. Rick let out a chuckle followed by Michonne. Kye laughed with the trio, staring at her feet while they walked. It was good to hear them laugh, especially after what she put them through.
The laughing stopped when the group noticed the walker stumbling closer. Rick glanced at them before wrapping his fingers around the handle of his knife, lightly tapping the tip with the pad of his thumb. Rick pulled the knife out of its cover and dove it into the walkers' skull, causing blood to spew on his shirt. The walked hit the ground with a loud thud while Rick gripped onto the handle and yanked it out of its forehead and wiping the remains on his jeans before shoving it back into its cover. The group shrugged it off and continued to walk.
Kye wiped the sweat forming on her brow and placing the other on her back for support. Michonne glanced over at Rick, the two grinning at each other, watching the smiling teenagers beside them. For them to be just slightly happy for even just a little bit fills a hole with joy in their stomachs. Having to grow up in a world so terrible, forcing them to grow up too soon can break somebody. They are the poster children of strength, they can do anything.
A/N: Just a filler guys, sadly. I'd make it longer but I don't want to make it too confusing for the next episode. Anywho! I love you guys and I love the feedback so keep it coming! I figured i'd make a happy chapter cause it's been awhile since I have and it feels good. I'll see if I can come up with another filler before the next episode, it will most likely be a flashback.
