The day after Alistair and I shared a passionate kiss, I felt so childish. We had been batting around the matter like kittens, pawing the twirling yarn of adoration into each other's faces until one got hit a little too hard, and then the kittens started clawing at each other and then finally they made up and kissed. But do kittens kiss? Or do they nuzzle each other?
A kissing kitten is a strange image.
Anyway, the sun rose and I awoke, feeling feverish and tired in my tent. Sunlight streamed through the thin leather, baking my face with a slight cover of warmth. I stretched, with difficulty, and heard talking from outside.
"Alistair, where did you and Fiona head to last night? It was growing very late and you two weren't back yet, yet here you are now." I heard Elayna ask. Of course she would. I rolled my eyes. I was about to trample out and slap her around for being nosy when Alistair responded.
"We simply reconciled after yesterday's events. She was really, really, really mad and I had to apologize. That's what you do when you make people mad, see?" He said, and I heard more shuffling. Elayna was silent and I wanted to run out and give Alistair another kiss. Good on him! He was standing up to Elayna and even throwing some gentle sarcasm her way. The stupid girl probably didn't even register he was being sarcastic.
"How long does it take to apologize, exactly? Listen, Alistair, I don't really care what you two did, but avoiding it and being sarcastic really doesn't help. I'm feeling so attacked right now by all of you, and I don't appreciate it." Elayna said clearly. Huh. That was oddly responsible and mature of her. What did she eat last night?
I could tell by Alistair's silence that he was taken back as well.
I took it as my cue to exist, and quickly rolled out of my tent. Elayna was flushing, her fists clenched. Alistair was packing up and Morrigan nowhere in sight, along with everyone else. Mischief was sleeping, even still, by the flaps of my tent.
"Morning everyone!" I said loudly, hoping to dispel the tension. Elayna and Alistair quickly looked over. Mischief snorted and rolled over, his big eyes falling on me and his nub-tail flapping wildly.
"Oh, uh, good morning Fiona." Elayna said quickly, avoiding me. I noticed the red mark on her face, still slightly purple. Alistair looked relieved to see me and rushed over, engulfing me in a giant bear hug.
"Good Morning my dear." He whispered in my ear, causing hundreds of nerves to dance under his touch. My emotions were immediately recalled to the other night, and I felt my face growing warm. I gave in and hugged him back. I restrained throwing him to the ground and kissing him all over. Come now Fiona, you sexually frustrated creature, you aren't a young girl anymore.
We broke and Elayna looked embarrassingly uncomfortable. I giggled slightly and she glared.
"Well, since you're up now, we can get going." She remarked, turning on her heel and disappearing into the woods. I hid my smile and turned to Alistair. He was flushing as he smiled down at me.
"Oh I'm glad you got up. She was pestering me forever! She's horrible at acting subtle." He rolled his eyes and turned to gather more supplies into a sack. I took out my bedroll and folded up my tent as we spoke.
"I could hear. What was she going on about? I only heard the last bit."
Alistair audibly sighed. "She kept asking about our relationship and what happened last night. I refused to tell her anything truthfully, as I wasn't sure if you wanted to tell anyone...unless you do...or don't." He gave a small smile, laced with worry. I smiled myself and shook my head.
"Are you insinuating that I'm ashamed of being in a relationship with you?" I asked, dropping my things and walking over to him. I caressed the side of his face. He looked up at me with a trembled glance. "Never. You're something most girls would be proud of. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if you were ashamed of me! I'm not exactly the perfect example of a girlfriend." I chuckled. Alistair froze, the smile growing on his face.
"Girlfriend? Are you my girlfriend?" He asked.
I quietly gasped, then began to laugh out loud. "I don't know, am I?" I retorted.
He stood up slowly and got very close. My heart rate accelerated. His hands found the side of my face and pulled me close. Our lips touched and electricity sparked, this time not purposefully. My chest hungered for him, brain as well, and cried out when he pulled back.
"I think you are. Do you agree?" He asked. I nodded quickly and pulled him back for another kiss.
Smooth.
a/n: well it's been like ten years since I updated. Sorry. I lost inspiration for this story, and am not even sure if this spark of inspiration is going to last very long. thank you all for reading and favoriting and joining me on this journey. I wasn't exactly the best writer a few years ago, and I'm not even sure if I've gained any experience or talent. Hopefully you still enjoy it. This is really short, but I promise for sure that the next update will be nice and long and full of action instead of this mushy gushy romance.
