I still don't own anything that has to do with The Vampire Diaries or The Originals. This is a chapter I have tried to plan carefully for quite some time and I've worked really hard to make sure everything falls into place, so I hope you'll like it (I know some won't).
I have also made this story a crossover now (TVD/Originals) and while I will keep this story my own I might take bits and pieces from the shows.
Just to remind you, it's still the summer before they're supposed to begin college.

…
Here I begin to fail the steps of a battle without sense
I've nearly began to understand as I grown my way
There is no light out of all the places
There is no sign of our help
There is no time and a chance of relations
What if I choose to live?
Living in a dangerous womb
Its like falling every moment every stage
Living in my own little world
Outcoming every sequence of this dream
How did this begin and turned in such inhumanity?
I'm hoping for myself to escape the insanity,
I'm open
What if I choose to live and what if I killed you,
Inhumanity

There was a faint cloink as the copper pots dangled and hit eachother, like a beggars wind chime where they hung above the counter. Their swaying cast dancing shadows on her face as Elijah stared at the witch. Her words were slowly sinking in to him as he sorted through his mind.
It was true. The last few days Caroline hadn't fed at all. She had turned down each and every blood bag that was offered to her.
His eyes had faltered for a moment as the thoughts had filled his brain, but within a second they returned to look her in the mirrored, dark maple eyes.
"I assume you have an explanation why." He said, ordering her to tell him everything. She snorted and tilted her head.
"For an old one with such moral you still need to work on your manners." She said and placed her palm against his chest, pushing him off her slowly. He backed away just enough to let her stand up straight. "I'd rather tell her first."
There was a bright spark in his eyes as she said this.
"If you think I'm going to let you near Caroline you should think again."
It was evident by his low voice that Elijah was getting angry and impatient. Sophie sighed and closed her eyes.
"I can't tell you… but I can show you." She said and opened her eyes again, letting out a shaky breath as if it had been the hardest thing to say. "Let me come with you. That way you can babysit me all you want while I talk to her."
The Original vampire seemed to consider her words for a moment, going through the pro's and con's in his mind before he gave her a simple nod in agreement.
"Though, be aware miss Deveraux…" he began. "If you remove even the slightest strand of hair from her head, the last thing you'll see will be your beating heart in my hand."
…..
Klaus enjoyed catching up with Anthony after all those years. They had first met just a short while after the originals had reached New Orleans and Anthony had the resources Klaus was after when it came to building his family an empire.
Anthony had been a scientist of the morbid kind and through this he knew a lot of people that had been of use to Klaus, in exchange for fresh cadavers. It had been a win-win situation for Klaus. All you could eat while someone else handled the leftovers. and minions in exchange for them.
As time passed they had become quite close and Anthony had heard a rumor of so called 'creatures of the night' that lured the innocent in by their human form. To any normal human being, this would have been gruesome and terrifying, but to Anthony it was nothing less of extraordinary and since Klaus trusted him he shared his secret. Well, not without turning Anthony straight after, just to be sure.
They were walking up Church Street and the sun was on it's way back down. The day had passed quickly and it had seemed none of Anthony's contacts knew of the White Oak. Basically because they weren't originals and didn't have to know.
Klaus had begun to doubt it's excistence, but he was not about to give up after just a day.
He had kept his family together, in one way or another, for over 1000 years and he was not going to let anyone or anything get in the way.
He made a sudden stop and focused his senses. Anthony got the idea and looked around. Someone who was not supposed to be there was close by.
Klaus growled as he recognized the scent and marched straight into the Church Street Park.
Within a second he had the vampire pinned against a tree.
"What an unpleasant surprise." He spat while his fingers squeezed Damon's windpipe.
The Salvatore brother gurgled with his blue eyes glaring at the hybrid.
"I'd say the same thing." Damon coughed. "Except I came here with the purpose of finding the only thing that can kill your ass."
A smirk spread on the hybrid's face before he let out a menacing laugh.
"Do you honestly believe you will succeed this time? Because as I recall you failed miserably the first time."
A breeze caught the massive, green crown above them and a few leaves escaped. They twirled in the air around them and reminded them of the thick silence.
Then the source of the sudden gust of wind revealed himself next to them.
"Let him go."
The hybrid turned his head to face him, a sceptical, yet amused expression on his face as blue eyes met green.
"Ah, Stefan." He greeted. "I'm actually not that surprised you'd come to save your brother from me. What surprises me is that you know why I'd want to feed him his own intestence."
Klaus was far from amused. He was angry and frustrated, but most of all blood thirsty like never before. He hadn't killed anyone in a while and every sinew and muscle in his body was screaming for it.
Stefan sighed and closed his eyes briefly.
"Well, the second I found out that Caroline told you I put two- and two together."
"About that." Damon said, coughing up dark blood. His eyes again met with Klaus'. "Where is Caroline?"
The hybrid's gripp tightened around the vampire's neck as he lifted him. Bark scraped against Damon's back as his feet left the ground and he choked painfully.
"How dare you speak of her?!" Klaus spat as his eyes were plated yellow.
Damon kicked his legs as he felt his lungs go dry. The hybrid returned his attention to Stefan Salvatore. "You should've dealt with him yourself the moment you found out, or perhaps you and Caroline aren't the close friends she seems to believe."
"Klaus, please." Stefan pleaded softly. "You know as well as I that Caroline wouldn't want anyone to be killed because of her. Now, let him go and let's find what you came here for. The sooner we get back the better."
It bugged Klaus badly that Stefan was right. He'd come there with a purpose and despite how much he hated to admit it, Caroline would've been miserable to know that she was the reason for his murder in revenge.
With a frustrated sigh, he settled with only snapping the vampire's neck and Damon fell to the ground.
Klaus grinded his teeth as he took a moment to calm down.
"Right, now I demand an explanation." He turned to face the other Salvatore. "You left Caroline alone with my sister and our pain of a brother in a danger-infested city to save this pathetic piece of filth. Are you really that dumb, Stefan?"
The Salvatore shrugged and looked him in the eyes.
"They're not in immediate danger." He explained. "I wouldn't have left Rebekah there otherwise, I hope you know that… and no matter what, Damon is my brother and I'll always protect him."
The hybrid laughed and shook his head.
"You think you act of righteousness…" his face faded into a stern, dark expression. "… and yet not even I, the most feared creature on this earth has done what he has."
He pointed at Damon's body and disgust was written all over his face as he spoke thos words. Stefan blinked and nodded slowly.
"I know." It came out a whisper. "But since Caroline lets him live I don't think it's up to you to decide otherwise."
They were interrupted by Anthony who cleared his throat.
"I don't mean to interrupt but isn't that a white oak?"
They stared at him, then at eachother, before they slowly backed away, heads tilted back as they looked up the high trunk. A few leaves were still twilring down from the massive crown.
It seemed that in the heat of the moment, none of them had recognized the ancient tree, and now, there it was right in front of them. But that was not all.
"Woah…"
Stefan turned and scanned the area of the park. He couldn't believe it.
Klaus clenched his fists. This was not possible.
"What is the meaning of this?!" he spat.
Anthony found a sign on a podium on the other side of the tree. His finger traced the letters as he read from it out loud.
"The old tree was the last of it's kind. With an age of twelve hundred years and still not a scratch in sight, we were lucky enough to ensure it's survival by planting it's acorns, and did so with success." He sighed ad shook his head. "With close to a thousand trees growing at this time, the rare white oak is no longer facing extinction…."
The Church Street Park had turned into a death trap for the hybrid as white oak trees surrounded him.
Stefan was gaping in surprise.
"Maybe now is a good time to make that phone call to Rebekah."
…..
She saw nothing but silky darkness and still it seemed to be spinning around her… or maybe she was the one spinning.
Her body felt heavy and she was getting nauseus from the feeling of spinning round and round through the black.
In the distance she could hear voices.
"What sort of spell could affect a vampire like this?"
It was Kol and he sounded concerned, but at the same time frustrated. There was a sigh and then Rebekah's voice.
"I don't know… It must be expression or something." She sounded stressed and through the haze Caroline could make out thuds and the russle of paper, as if books were scanned through and thrown at the floor. "Maybe she needs some blood."
Elijah had hesitated for a second as he heard a ruckus coming from inside the mansion. Sophie looked at him questioningly as he listened for what his siblings were talking about. A frown of suspicion formed on his face as he marched inside with Sophie in tow.
"What is this?!"
From the entrance hall he could see Rebekah in the sitting room, tearing out book after book from the cases, searching through them briefly before she tossed them over her shoulder.
A different sound caught his attention and he snapped his head to the right as his eyes fell upon the the livingroom. He could hear deep, slow, heavy breathing.
He hadn't felt that feeling in a very long while, but all of a sudden his dead heart was racing and and uneasy sensation flled his stomach as he saw the blonde locks dangling from the side of the white sofa. He could tell from those breaths that something was wrong- very wrong and he was quickly at her side.
Sophie remained in the entrance hall, shocked and confused by the chaos, while Rebekah's heels clicked against the marble flooring from right to left with her golden hair flowing like a cloak behind her as she joined Elijah in the living room.
"Yes, the Bennett witch did something to her and we don't know what." Rebekah said. "She went dizzy and fainted and hasn't come out of it since then."
Elijah frowned in confusion as he placed the back of his hand against her damp forehead. She was sweating and her skin was burning hot. He swallowed hard before his eyes fell upon the witch. His dark orbs had never seemed so threatening before and as he got up and walked towards her, Sophie took a few steps back.
Kol hurried out of the kitchen with a blood bag in his hand and was quickly at the same spot his brother had been just seconds earlier.
She was pushed up to a sitting position and her head was spinning even worse. She heard a 'pop' and the smell of blood filled her nostrils. Her stomach turned and she was sure she'd throw up straight into the darkness of her mind. Her eyelids were too heavy to open.
Sophie was grabbed harshly by the shoulders as Elijah shook her violently.
"Tell me what this is!" he growled as dark veins grew under his eyes. Sophie's bottom lip quivered in fright, but she answered him firmly.
"She needs to feed!"
While Rebekah sat Caroline up, Kol opened up the bag and managed to place it between the baby vampire's lips. While the dark, red fluid rolled down her pale chin, she also managed to swallow most of it.
Disgusting! She felt horrible, like a hangover but ten times worst at least. The blood tasted like iron and it turned into a sticky slime in her mouth.
A groan escaped her lips and Kol removed the bag. They stared at her in silence as a look of discomfort formed on her face and her eyes opened.
Like a zombie, she got to her feet and staggered away from them, stumbling after just a few steps. Her slim fingers tightened around the front of her shirt as she fell to her knees and hurled as blood cascaded out of her.
Within a second the witch had been slammed hard against the wall. The back of her head was pulsating painfully and Elijah's fingers were digging into her ribcage.
"You have ten seconds before I kill you!"
Caroline fell to the floor once more, as if she had been drained of all energy.
The situation was chaotic, with Caroline once again collapsed, this time in her own vomits of blood, and Rebekah kneeling beside her in them- in two hundred dollar jeans. Kol was standing in silence for the first time ever and Elijah merely seconds away from murdering the only remaining Deveraux witch.
"This must be Katonda's revenge…" Sophie panted out in pain. "She didn't agree with the spirits decision and therefor she tried to intervene…"
Elijah's red eyes glowed angrily at her.
"Go on!"
Sophie swallowed and squeezed her eyes shut. Her every muscle was aching painfully.
"I'm sure you can tell…" she groaned. "She's been magically transformed… She has a human pulse, and yet she's still a vampire."
Elijah tightened his grip on her and she let out a squeal of pain.
"WHY?!"
Sophie swallowed hard. It was not supposed to be revealed until the fall. The spirits had been specific. However, if the girl didn't feed soon it would all be compromised.
"She needs to feed from the vein…" she said, closing her eyes. "She needs to use her predatory instincts."
With a flash Kol had left to find a warm body for Caroline to feed on, while Rebekah still tried to wake her.
"You're not telling us everything."
The emotion in the female original's voice and on her face as she glared at the witch with glossy, green eyes was a hard blow for her. It was difficult for her to understand that this was the cold hearted hybrid's sister. Sophie swallowed and her ebony eyes fell upon Elijah again.
"You should ask your brother to come home." She said softly and the vampire released her. Sophie hissed and rubbed her sides while she continued. "Marcel will know if I use magic and without it I can't remove the curse. She has been cured halfway, meaning she is mortal and yet she will die unless she feeds from the vein… and I won't let her die."
Kol soon returned, carrying an unconsious woman bridal style inside the house.
Elijah turned to the witch once again.
"What made Katonda do this?" he asked. "What is this plan the spirits have that she could hinder by making Caroline sick?"
Sophie bit her lip. She gave the other two a quick look to make sure they were occupied before she looked Elijah in the eyes.
"When your mother magically turned you into vampires the spirits made one mistake… To let it work on Klaus. He was already a supernatural being and it's decided that you can only be one or the other." She said in a low, almost whispering voice. "Because of their mistake he was able to become a hybrid… Now, with Caroline they made another mistake."
Sophie made a pause and Elijah took in her every word. "A vampire is no longer human. It shouldn't be able to feel empathy, and yet Caroline never lost hers."
"I thought the spirits didn't make mistakes." Elijah said suspiciously and Sophie nodded.
"Very rarely, however the big thing here is that two of these little mishaps ended up in the town called Mystic Falls, and that because of yet another mistake… Two doppelgängers alive at the same time, in the same town."
Elijah realized that what she was telling him was big and secret. He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her with him further away from his siblings.
"Please, continue." He asked. She sighed, but nodded.
"Mystic Falls acted as a big supernatural magnet. The spirits had to change destiny to make all pieces fit and when Klaus met Caroline, nature decided to cook up something new…"
She thought Elijah would figure it out by then, since he was wise and a thousand years had earned him some experience, but he still seemed confused.
"They were not supposed to have met… ever. They weren't even supposed to co-exist…"
Sophie nodded.
"And now they're mates, something the spirits accepted- perhaps even wanted, and Katonda didn't."
And then he understood. His lips parted but not a sound escaped them and he looked at her as if he was pleading for her to confirm what he thought it meant. She remained confident and the look in her eyes told him it was true. For werewolves, being mates was something far bigger than between vampires. It's a bond with a magical effect.
"That's impossible." He whispered in a sort of daze. "They're both undead."
Sophie shook her head.
"Nothing is impossible. Especially when it comes to nature's mistakes." She crossed her arms over her chest and sighed. "I guess the spirits found something poetic with it. The dark soul of a beast, a man unable to love still falls for a vampire full of light and humanity… and she loves him in return, so deeply that she'd be willing to lose that humanity. You're all here in New Orleans for a reason and the witches have been keeping an eye on you. This is why I was watching Caroline- to find out if the rumor was true and thanks to my special gift it was confirmed."
Elijah paced back and forth as he listened to the witch explain it all for him. He had always thought there was a purpose of goodness for his brother somehow, someday, but this was not something he'd ever expected.
Shadows were forming on her face as the sun was setting.
"How will her current state affect the baby?" he asked, still a bit perplexed and not really sure of what was reality and dreamland. It had been a strange day to say the least.
Sophie fingered the sore spot on the back of her head.
"With this partial cure her organs are changing. She was a vampire when they concieved. Her blood was low on oxygen, her circulation minimal. Nothing is supposed to be able to live and grow under those circumstances but it did, and now it's environment has changed drastically… It could terminate this pregnancy- and nature's plan for her and your brother."
Then shock turned into determination and Elijah knew he had a bigger purpose than he ever could've guessed. This could be the happiness he and his two siblings had always wanted for Klaus.
"I'll do whatever it takes."
Sophie nooded and glanced around to make sure they were still alone. It was getting darker.
She returned her attention to Elijah and with a serious tone she explained it to him.
"Get your brother to come home but do not tell him about this. Not yet." She swallowed and licked her dry lips before she continued. "I will look after Caroline and when she's stronger I will tell her, but before that no one else can know about this pregnancy. She's a target already for being his mate."
Elijah nodded.
"I trust you." He said. "And I hope you don't betray that trust- for your own sake." He scanned her features and she nodded. "Good. In the meantime I will have a little chat with my siblings about why the girls joined Kol in the first place."
He turned to leave but stopped in his tracks. With his back turned against Sophie he asked one last question. "Does the Bennett witch know?"
Sophie sighed, ut he wasn't sure if it was one of relief or one of sorrow.
"No." she replied. "But I'm afraid she knows they're mates. If she were to see Caroline again she would soon figure it out."
And with a small nod Elijah left the witch in the shadows.
….
Klaus and Stefan carried Damon's lifeless body to Anthony's hideout, an ancient church actually. It was genius and unless you had an insight on true vampires you would never suspect one was living on holy ground.
The rows of seats were long gone and the floor covered in oriental, red rugs. In the middle of the massive room was a set of luxurious leather couches and a bar trolley of smooth mahogany and brass. On top of it were crystal caraffs filled with old, smokey whiskey. Semi-secluded by a fold-out-wall stood a King size bed, right below the figure of Christ on the cross.
The large painted windows spread a colored light of yellows, reds and blues and swirls of dust danced in it.
They placed Damon in a chair and tied him down for safekeeping.
"Well, welcome to my haven." Anthony greeted them as he spread his arms out from where he stood in the center. Klaus smirked and took a look around.
"Well, well." He said with a pleased tone. "I never saw you as the type who's got Jesus on the cross above his bed."
Anthony chuckled and poured the three of them a drink.
"A man above it, a woman in it and…" he turned and handed Klaus the glass. "A secret below it. Come with me."
He then handed Stefan a glass of fine whiskey and took one for himself before he lead them behind the head of the bed, where the altar had once been and kneeled. A part of the floor was marked as a grave, but as he moved the headstone it instead revealed a set of stairs to the underground. Anthony grabbed golden candelabra from the window pane and lead the men downstairs.
It was dark and damp. A light dripping echoed between the thick, stone walls and in the distance was a squeak from a rat as it fled their prescence.
"This system of tunnels is connected to the sewers. If we find the spot beneath the Church Street Park we could destroy the root system of the white oak and kill all of them before we burn the actual trees."
Klaus was intigued by this and a deep, pleased laugh escaped him.
"Anthony, I knew I did the right thing when I turned you back in the day."
Anthony chuckled and made a sudden turn to the right.
"Well, I've had time to perfect my experiment and it would seem we have the perfect opportunity to test it out."
They entered a room with an arched ceiling. Along the walls were old barrles stacked up and in the middle was a large, wooden table with alchemy books scattered all over it and glass bottles and jars placed in steel frames.
Stefan glanced around the area. It had a thick smell of gunpowder and… something else.
"I trust ou have cooked up something good." Klaus said and approached the table, scanning through the notes of the open books. Anthony nodded with a grin on his face.
"I could wipe out entire cities with this and no one would see it coming." Anthony explained. "You see, humans can't smell it and it's form is simply a clear liquid, but as you might understand it's far from safe. It's highly poisonous, much like Sarin gas, but in liquid form. As soon as it touches exposed tissue, or in this case the roots of a living plant, it's toxins will spread rapidly through the veins and infest all organs. A human is dead within thirty seconds. I'm not quite sure how long the trees will survive but that's not really of importance. Eventually their root system will be eliminated and we can burn it's remains."
Klaus was exstatic. For a moment he had been worried that there had been too many trees for them to take out before someone else got there, but these were excellent news.
"You're scarier than you look." Stefan said and Anthony gave him an amused look before he clicked his tongue.
"Well, we should get out of here. It's also a very explosive substance and I'm the one holding the burning candles."
….
Twenty days in New Orleans and there she was, feeding of an innocent girl in the middle of the Mikaelson livingroom. For some reason there was blood all over the floor and she was slightly slipping with the girl's weight pushing against her frame.
What the hell happened here?
However, the strangest part of it wall was that Rebekah was standing there observing her with her arms crossed and Kol was observing her with concern written in his large, brown eyes.
Caroline was disappointed to find the girl's veins dried out far too quickly and she dropped the heavy body on the spot. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She was feeling a lot better, despite the thick coat of sticky blood on her skin.
Just great. Everything happens to end up in my bra. If it's not popcorn it's blood. So fucking annoying.
"Caro', how are you feeling?"
When she opened her eyes she found Rebekah standing right in front of her. It surprised her a little, but she didn't jump anymore. Her skin had gotten thicker.
Caroline raised her eyebrow but smiled at the obviously worried original.
"I really need a shower." She said with a giggle and from the corner of her eye she could see Kol let out a breath he'd seemed to be holding.
At first she was confused by what was up, and then she remembered. Bonnie had done something to her, made her really dizzy and she probably passed out.
She glanced around at the blood covering the floor.
"Seriously? What happened here?"
Rebekah was smiling brightly and shook her head. Not a trace of worry left on her face.
"Don't worry. Have a shower and we'll talk afterwards." The blonde original said, pushing Caroline towards the downstairs bathroom. "I'll get you some clean clothes while you're in there. Tea?"
Caroline was a little bit suspicious but she felt disgusting and the shower was practically screaming at her. She nodded with a small smile on her face.
"Yeah… Thanks, 'Bekah."
Rebekah nodded again and Caroline closed the bathroom door. A sigh of relief escaped the blonde original's lips and she closed her eyes. What a day.
She made her way towards the kitchen, but stopped right before she reached the archway to the dining room. Elijah and the Deveraux witch were whispering, which meant there was a secret not even she was supposed to know of.
She focused her hearing to be able to hear what they were saying.
"I will look after Caroline and when she's stronger I will tell her, but before that no one else can know about this pregnancy. She's a target already for being his mate."
Rebekah frowned. Had she heard it right? No… It couldn't be. It was impossible.
"I trust you… and I hope you don't betray that trust- for your own sake."
Rebekah swallowed hard and took a few steps back. There was a strange feeling in her chest. Happiness, excitement… but most of all fright. If it was true, then she didn't just have Caroline to keep safe anymore, but a niece or nephew.
And from what she gathered, Niklaus had no idea, and niether had Caroline.
Speaking of the Devil, her phone rang and the caller ID said 'Nik'.
