Chapter 25

Fight to freedom

As I raced over the ground, my rage helping my feet to fly. I could smell the wet dog smell of the wolves in front of me, guiding me in, guiding me to her. I pushed myself myself faster, I didn't even think Edward could keep up with me, my determination to get there first driving me faster than I had ever run before. I could only just hear Edward behind me talking to some one on the phone, from the pitch of the person's voice it must be Alice, he must be asking her to get Jasper here to help.

As we raced far over the misty mountain trails, as faster as Edward and I were the wolves were still faster. I could hear the wolves up ahead, they were growling at some thing. So they had her, they must have cornered her, I smiled at this, she was mine.

I came into the area that the wolves had trapped her in. I knew why they had not killed her as they moved to make a gap, they were waiting for me to start my fight against her. To look at her now, I saw how much she had changed since I saw her last.

Her Hair was like orange flame, her eyes a more vivid red. She did not smile, her lips were pressed together and a growl was heard in her chest. Her body was coiled, feline like ready to spring on her prey.

I heard her through Edward, she was thinking that now that she was so close to what she had wanted, and that she knew that my father's death would bring me to her to have my revenge upon her for what she had done. She smiled at me, her canine teeth glinting with wet blood.

We circled, two lionesses positioning ourselves, trying to get the best place to spring from. I was stalking her with perfect concentration, even though I wanted to get back at her for my father, my focus was to make sure some one killed her, she would not live to see any more days on this earth. She hissed, I knew that unlike me, the newborn, she was not inexperienced, she was lethal. A predator in her prime. I shifted lower into my lioness crouch again, then suddenly I struck, moving so fast but I lost none of her moves. I kicked at her hard and she flew across the clearing and across to a small cliff edge gap on the other side, I growled, she would not get away from me.

As I prepared to jump, I felt Edward's hand on my shoulder, I could hear him saying not to jump, not to go to her, that we will find away to get to her together but I could not handle the waiting as my newborn instincts took over. She was was just over there, and I just saw red.

I pulled out of Edward's hold and jumped across to where she was, I growled again. Some part of me knew I was loosing control and was becoming the wild animal that newborns could be but if she was killed, that was all that mattered to me right now.

I could hear Edward and the wolves calling to me, trying to get me to come back, but this was my fight and I wanted to finish it.

"So the human becomes the monster. I should think you would be greatful to me for changing you as your boy toy did not do it before" Victoria said, her voice like a cat - like growl.

"No I am not a monster, I am me, I am Bella, and as for changing me you only did it sooner than Edward. He was coming back for me because unlike your James, my Edward loves me more than life itself but James only kept you around because you know how to get away. That's all you were to him, silly to waste energy avenging some one who never had a heart to begin with. You were never more than a convenience to him, but I will never let you get away. You will die today for what you did to my father" I growled out.

With a screech, she flashed forward her fingers, like claws as my words made her see rage not reason but as fast as she moved I could see it. It was like she was moving in slow motion, her eyes were still on me, were filled with ferocious anger that made her look deranged, which I think for half a second she probably was.

"No, how are you doing this?" her voice was like a baby's shrill with disbelief.

"You'll never touch me" I murmured as I stalked closer again.

Our dance increased. Adrenaline jolted through my veins. The increasing blur of shapes that was us, flashed over the ground. This dance of the vampire lionesses was turning deadly, and it had to end soon.

I turned invisible with speed as I got around to her back and grabbed both her arms and pulled them off. She growled and then she did some thing I did not think she would do, she kicked her own detached arm at me, I just moved out of the way.

I smiled at that, she was disparate, the win was mine, I flashed forward and with one last step, the dance was over, her head was no longer connected to the rest of her body. I had, had my revenge for what she had done to me and my father.

I dropped to the ground, my legs gave way in relief. Then suddenly I felt Edward's arms around me. I could smell the fire that the wolves had started to get fid of Victoria. I turned my head in time to see her head being thrown into the flames, her face still held the same smug look it had held as she had taken my life.

"Victoria"I could think her name now but it was still unsteady as if I could not believe that it was over.

I buried my face into Edward's chest and started to dry sob as I heard him say in his thoughts and with his soft voice "It's over, it's over".

I clung to him until I could relax again and then I was kissing him as my mind caught up with what my body already knew, what Edward knew, what the wolves knew and as I looked back to the flames I thought I could see my father's ghost smile as if he knew now too.

I was safe and free forever.
