Dick Grayson
Volume II
Chapter 1
Where It All Began Part 1
-Location Unknown-
Darkness engulfs my mind and all I can do is listen to the voices of others pleading for help. Screams of agony and pain grow louder as time passes by. Each second that ticks, my world quickly starts to reveal itself. The pieces of my mind reform and I find myself in a deep slumber. That is until I feel the touch of water run past my arms and move back. I can smell the ocean and can hear seagulls yelping in the distance. Soon enough, my eyes open and I find myself on a shoreline with large pieces of machines and glass scattered around. I slowly stand up and rub the back of my head. I wipe away some dried blood that was apparently there and start walking towards the top of the beach line. In no time, the sounds of a siren heading towards the beach whines in the distance. Without thinking, I rush off through the sand and head towards an unmarked parking area. I see some bushes and quickly jump behind them.
"Where the heck am I?"
"Lost I presume kiddo. Where else would you be?" says a voice in the back of my head. I quickly turn around and my race pulses when I see no one around.
"Who said that? Whose there?"
"Tsk tsk. Don't worry about me kid. Just keep looking down and quiet. It looks like we have company not too far away."
Just as suddenly the voice appeared, it vanished and I quickly ducked as I heard the sounds of police sirens stop just ahead of where I hid. I kept my face to the ground and peer through the bushes. All I can see are black boots. Two sets step out of the vehicle.
"Hey Gordon, take a look over here." Say's a voice from the furthest set of boots.
"Sure Stevens. What is it?" asked the booted man nearest myself.
"Don't know, but the commissioners going to be freaked when he sees this." Gordon walks in the direction of Stevens and that's when I was able to slowly raise my head. But before I could poke out any further, a force slams my face back to the ground.
"Don't be stupid kid. I told you to keep your head down. We don't know where we are or who these people are. Not to mention if we can trust anything we see or hear." Says the creepy voice that's starting to get on my nerves.
"Gah, fine. But next time watch the face. Geeze."
"Ah right. Sorry kid, just heed my words alright. You may not know who I am yet, but I'll explain when we are alone again." I regain control of my body and I begin to crawl away from the policemen. As I do so, there is a flash of lightning that hits the entire beach line where the broken machines and glass were. All the men and women who were slowly reaching the area, scream in fear and race back to their vehicles. All I hear soon after that are men yelling the words "Gone, it's all gone." I use this as a chance to race off into the nearby woods. As I run away, I begin to notice that I wasn't wearing any shoes again. I constantly grab my torn pants and shirt to make sure they don't fall off. I run for what feels like hours before I make it to an abandoned camp site. I take a seat and pant for breath.
"Ah, alright man….so tell me, what the heck is going on here?" as soon as I asked, I begin to see a fuzzy being standing a few feet away from where I was looking. It was taller than I and had glowing green eyes.
"Dicky boy right? Well this is hard to explain, but to make it simple, you no longer exist. At least not right now." I raise an eyebrow and shake my head.
"What do you mean not now? I don't understand."
"What I mean to say is that based on what I can tell, you've managed to travel us back in time. A time where you don't exist yet….which is why your not rupturing the timeline from the looks of things."
"Whoah, I time traveled?! That's possible?...cool." I let out a laugh, but quickly shake my head.
"Wait, time travel is cool and all, but before that, don't you think that maybe you should tell me who the heck you are first of all?"
"Ah right. I never introduced myself, have I? well I don't want to spoil too much for now because you aren't supposed to meet me for another few years. But let's just say I'm a friend."
I shake my head and point my finger at the figure.
"Nuh uh. You better give me a name, because I do not trust some weird creepy fuzzy thing that can control my body at will. "
"Gee golly kid. Fine, the names Marvel. But you cant tell anyone who you talk to whenever I pop in and out. No one's supposed to know of my existence or interference with the mortal realm." I just stare at Marvel in confusion.
"Yeah….i don't think I want other people knowing that I'm talking to some ghost thing. Not to mention, I have no idea who you are still. But sure, your secrets safe with me."
"Whaaaaaa-, what do you mean you don't know who I am? I'm captain Marvel or the apprentice of the great Shazam. How?…..right….your still young." Marvel begins to pace back and forth before he turns to me and starts to slowly fade away.
"Look kid, my time with you is starting to run short, so here's my advice for now. Keep out of sight. Do not do anything to mess with the past. There can be dire consequences. And whatever you do, stay away from the circus!" Marvel completely fades away and a fire sparks on the ground where he once stood. I lay down on the ground and stare at the darkening sky.
"Yeah yeah weirdo. I know how to stay out of trouble. I close my eyes, but before I can rest, I hear the sounds of a woman crying for help in the distance. I quickly jump to my feet and start racing towards the screams. In a matter of seconds, I make it to an abandoned church. There's about twenty men in red robes chanting in some weird language. They stand in what appears to be a large circle. They are all holding candles with the flames slowly lifting into the sky.
"Hey! Hey, what's going on here?! Sto-" before I can finish talking, I see a red flame appear above the sky as all the candles go out at once. A set of glowing red eyes, followed by two other sets of eyes appear within the flames. A naked man falls from the fiery sky and lands in the middle of all the robed men. Just as he landed, the fiery hole in the sky separate and fades away. The woman stops screaming for a few moments. But soon enough, she begins to yell at the top of her lungs. As soon as I hear her scream again, I snap out of my daze and rush to the scene as quickly as I could.
"Hang on lady, I'm coming! Hey weirdos!" I run and slide under one of the men. I drop a spin kick and knock down two men who vanished into the air.
"Well that was weird." I snatch one of the robes before it lands on the ground to feel that there was nothing in it. A few of the other robed men dart towards my direction. I jump as high as I could and lift both my legs to kick them in the faces. Their robes fall to the ground empty just like the others. However, they others also start to rush my way. So I did what I knew best. I kicked as many robed men as I could until I was able to stop them all. As soon as I was done, I turn back to the center of the circle. There was no more yelling, but instead I hear the sounds of crying and moaning. And there, right then and there was when I see the most unspeakable thing…..but… at the same time was something that I can't seem to look away from.
TBC…
Far from Grayson. There is a cave. We see a man sitting on a chair in front of a computer.
"It's time."
The scene fades to black.
Next time on Grayson:
The Boy who meets TRIGON and lives!...
Or does he?
