"I love you Erica Tamshii."
Brendan's confession had finally been released. His face started to burn red with a blush.
All Erica could do was simply stare back at him with a bright blush of her own. She was at a loss for words and couldn't think of anything to say.
"E-even if you don't like me like that...I just...wanted to tell you...anyway."
Brendan then started to let go of her hands and part with her. But instead of letting go, Erica latched onto his hands and refused to let him leave.
Before anymore words could be said between the two, their lips met. Brendan was surprised at first, but he soon melted into the kiss. They remained connected for several more moments before Erica broke the connection.
"Brendan Kobushi, I love you too."
He couldn't say anything, all that Brendan could do was stare back with surprise while Erica looked away. The brunette did muster the courage to ask.
"What is it about me that you liked then?" Erica looked back at him with a smile.
"I always liked how you loved pokemon, how you sacrificed your happiness and your safety to protect others, and how you've always had so much passion."
After hearing that answer, Brendan blushed again and smiled greatly. To have his crush say that she loved him back was more than enough to make him happy.
Erica too, could feel so much happiness that words couldn't express it. Not even her victory against her teachers was enough to surpass this feeling.
Right now, all that mattered to the two was that they had each other in loving embrace.
But this union wouldn't last forever as the ground began to quake again, and they were reminded of their task. The super ancient pokemon couldn't be too far from the cave now.
"We have to split up now, huh?" Asked Erica disappointingly as she looked to the ground.
"Yeah, but I know that you'll win." Reassured Brendan.
"But what about you? I have faith in you-"
"Then that's all that we need, and we'll have the passion to win."
Erica knew that the argument wouldn't go on any longer, so she just chose to accept her lover's choice.
Brendan leaned in and kissed her one last time, trying to give her more confidence than before.
No more words were said as they parted ways towards the separate chambers. There they would fight to save the entire world, everything was riding on those two and the bonds that they have with their pokemon.
This was it, a future, or calamity.
Along Route 131 stood a large tower. A tower that was inconspicuous, yet remained ignored. At the entrance stood the girl who had attacked Brendan at the Magma base.
"It'll only be a matter of time now, I can only hope that things continue to go as planned. But I wish that Groudon came this way instead of Kyogre." Said the girl.
As she was entering the tower, a tiny pink pokemon approached her.
"Oh, hello there. Mommy's back."
Erica continued to descend further into a new chamber, not one that she was expecting though. Instead of finding Kyogre, she found a large pool of water.
Taking a closer look revealed that the water was a channel, and intuition led her to put on the Aqua Suit. But the gear was loosely fitting to her body.
"How am I supposed to wear this thing?" Asked the slightly irritated girl.
Erica continued to probe around the suit for anything useful until she came upon a switch on her neck.
Pressing said switch compressed all of the air around her body out and the suit instantly fit.
"Oh, that's very convenient." Said the girl before putting the helmet on.
Somehow, the yellow glass of the helmet appeared clear to Erica. This would make it so much easier to traverse in this suit.
Making a few steps forward, the blonde aimed to jump in the water and swim towards the Cave of Origin.
But right before she could come any closer, the Latiasite started to shine brightly. A thin, clear layer of energy formed around her and gave the girl another layer of protection.
Suddenly, the ground began to quake again and Kyogre arose in the pool ahead of her. Before surprises could be over, the inside of the Aqua Suit began to ring.
"Uh, hello?"
'Hey scamp, do you read me? It's Archie. We got the signal that the suit had been activated.'
"Yeah I read you, Kyogre is right in front of me. It looks like excited." Explained the girl.
'That beastie is more than likely trying to head to the cave through an underwater channel.' Said Archie. 'You'll have to jump on and ride it.'
Before anything else could be said, the communication line was cut. The action of grabbing onto what could easily kill her wasn't appealing to the blonde at all. But since the world was riding on her shoulders, she did it anyway.
Right as she landed on Kyogre's backside, the pokemon began to submerge. Erica quickly grabbed one of its dorsal fins and held on with both her arms.
Riding on Kyogre wasn't the easiest thing to do in the world. Even though Latias's power and the Aqua Suit were protecting her, Erica still felt a torrent pushing against her, and the only thing she could do was continue to hold on.
'Come on Kyogre, get to the chamber.' Begged the blonde in her mind.
But suddenly, the sound of cracking caught her attention. Erica could clearly see a crack forming in the glass, due from the pressure of the water.
'Oh crap!' Water began to leak into her helmet and she panicked. Holding her breath was the best option available.
Because she was holding onto Kyogre, Erica couldn't pinch her nose and water flooded her nostrils.
Pain flared from her nose and her lungs, and there was nothing that could be done about it. As Erica was struggling to keep her grip, she could feel Kyogre speeding up.
Kyogre burst out of the water into a new room. As it was flying, Erica jumped down to the ground and immediately removed her helmet.
Before Erica could do anything else, she had to cough up the water in her lungs.
"...'hugh'...What is...'hugh'...this place?"
The Cave of Origin wasn't exactly something that she expected. It was wet with moss growing all over the area and water falling from the ceiling. Kyogre was positioned under blue crystals that was shaped like a set of four claws.
Energy was radiating from the crystals as Kyogre roared at Erica. Practically, it was beckoning for her to come over.
Erica removed the Aqua suit and bagged it before approaching the super ancient pokemon.
Brendan had made his way down into the chamber and had the same heated experience from before. At the base of the room was lava and another passageway.
"I guess this is where the safety suit comes in." Said Brendan before pulling it out.
But unexpectedly, the suit was much too loose to fit. The brunette probed around it for any kind of way to tighten it. He soon found the switch on the collar and flipped it.
Just as the Aqua Suit would've done, the Magma Suit compressed the air around Brendan's body.
"Oh, one size fits all." Said the brunette before equipping the helmet.
Brendan approached the lava and got the impression that he was supposed to walk through it to get to the Cave of Origin. The Latiosite he had casted a shield around him before he could get in.
Suddenly, the ground shook and Groudon burst out of the lava. It wandered around with a happy eyes. Brendan was about to lash out at the pokemon when he could hear his Magma Suit ringing.
"Uh, Brendan here."
'Fear not for it is, I, the great Maxie. We've traced your point to see that the Magma Suit is active.'
"Yeah that's right, and Groudon is right in front of me. Any ideas on what I should do?"
'Groudon is about to head to the cave, you'll need to hop onto its mighty back.'
The communication line was abruptly cut before anymore instructions could be given. Brendan decided not to waste any time at all and jumped up to latch onto Groudon's back. The legendary didn't even pay any attention to him as it walked through the lava.
Even with the protection of the Magma Suit and Laitosite around him, Brendan could still feel the overwhelming heat surrounding him. It placed a lot of strain on his body as it continued to get hotter.
If that wasn't bad enough, his grip started to slip. He started to skid down off of Groudon but quickly regained grip.
'No! I've gotta hang on!'
Groudon then entered a massive chamber with lava almost everywhere. Three long crystals hung from the ceiling and were shaped just like claws.
Brendan took this chance to dislodge himself from Groudon and jump onto the ground not covered by lava. Oddly enough though, the room was at a temperature were the brunette didn't need the helmet.
"So this is the Cave of Origin, huh?" He stood up to get a better view of the area, but quickly fell to the ground as he vomited.
Once he got the mucus out, he could clearly hear Groudon roaring at him again. The ancient being was right below the set of crystals. Brendan put away his Magma Suit to see what was going on.
They could feel it, the primal power fluxing through their bodies. The super ancient pokemon looked down at the humans who stood in front of them, perfect for practice.
Suddenly, the energy started to build up. It came faster and faster as a crystal layers were formed around them.
Everything shook as the blue and red crystals started to darken to black. But then, alpha and omega appeared.
Kyogre burst out with a body that appeared translucent. Its eyes glowed an unnatural shade of yellow, and Alpha adorned both of its flippers.
Groudon burst out with its under half appearing burnt. The cracks along its body flowed as if it was lava into the eyes, and Omega marked both its claws.
"I won't let you succeed!"
"Bring it on!"
Outside in Sootopolis city, the weather began to rage even harder than before. But as it began to worsen, green energy began to form a seal above the crater city. Steven and Wallace watched this phenomenon from the ground.
"What is that?" Asked Steven in surprise.
"That is the seal to keep Groudon and Kyogre from leaving the cave." Explained Wallace.
"Is it permanent?"
"I'm afraid not, it was originally designed to hinder them till another pokemon made it here. But I doubt it can come."
That statement put curiosity on Steven's face when he heard that. But since there was little left that could be done to stop the crisis, he chose not to pry into curiosity.
In their separate chambers, the primal pokemon roared vigorously for a chance to test out their regained power.
Erica sent out Hanatoro first, she chose to abuse type advantage so as to not waste any time.
Brendan followed his gut instinct and chose to send out Dokuro.
Inexplicably, the weather that had been raging outside had been replicated in the chambers. Differentiated by Kyogre summoning rain and Groudon summoning sunlight. But neither trainer chose to pay too much attention to this.
"Hanatoro use petal blizzard!" Said the blonde.
The bouquet pokemon quickly summoned a maelstrom of flower petals that assaulted the legendary. But somehow, it remained perfectly fine and with minimal damage.
Neither Erica nor Hanatoro were able to form a quick strategy before Kyogre shot the Roserade with an ice beam.
Though the damage was supereffective, Hanatoro pushed himself back up to continue fighting through the pain.
"Use petal blizzard again!" Said Erica, and her pokemon followed through with the previous attack.
But once again, Kyogre didn't so much as flinch at this predicament. In fact, it remained very calm. Seeing this made Erica realize what was going on.
'It's using calm mind, no wonder the attack isn't powerful enough.'
Once Hanatoro's attack had subsided, Kyogre took the opportunity to shoot him again with ice beam. This time the grass pokemon quickly fainted after being hit.
'Get some rest.' Erica retrieved her defeated partner and analyzed Kyogre carefully.
"If you were able to cast calm mind while you were being attacked, you must be on a completely different level."
Before a change could be made, Kyogre jumped out of the water towards Erica. Quick reflexes allowed the blonde to dodge the attack, but only barely.
'He's not playing around.' Thought the blonde as she regained her footing.
"Dokuro, use shadow sneak!" Said Brendan.
The Dusclops dove into her shadow and assaulted Groudon before it could attack. But her attack didn't do so much as make the giant blink.
Brendan flinched at the overwhelming power as his pokemon returned to his side. Groudon reared its head up and quickly to charged energy before firing an instant solarbeam.
"Dokuro, shadow sneak!"
With a mere split-second to spare, Brendan and Dokuro barely evaded the potent solarbeam.
"Now hit him with shadow punch!" Said the brunette as he stood back up.
Dokuro emerged from her shadow and balled her fists together. They were launched at Groudon's chin and were able to at least push it up a few feet.
'Yosh! That's something.' Thought Brendan.
But he would soon learn just how hard this really would be. The lava-filled eyes of the red giant looked down at Dokuro and she flinched in terror.
Brendan recognized this move as scary face, he knew that Groudon was aiming to slow down Dokuro.
"Don't let it get to you Dokuro, use shadow ball!"
The ghost type tried to shake off her fear after hearing the command of her trainer. She sent the spectral attack towards Groudon, but it was suddenly sent back to her by another one of Groudon's solarbeams.
Dokuro took the combined damage from both her own attack and Groudon's, which resulted in a big explosion. That was more than enough to leave her knocked out.
"Dokuro!" Brendan ran over to his fainted partner and picked her up.
To his dismay, she was barely hanging on by being knocked out. He had no other choice but to put her back into the pokeball.
'Take it easy.' After retrieving his partner, the brunette sent out Rin.
Upon being released, the Mighteyna glared with intimidation and actually succeeded as Groudon's careless expression started to show interest.
'I guess we'll have to take it, even if it doesn't mean that he'll lose half his spirit.' Thought Brendan.
Not only that, but Groudon seemed to further enhance its attack by using bulk up. So it seemed that long range attacking was the better choice.
"Rin, use snarl!" The Mightyena immediately jumped up and attacked Groudon in the face.
Snarl's volume was loud enough to actually affect Groudon. But doing so bred anger in the giant. It reared up and roared loudly as the lava around it started to discharge.
Rin was able to jump around and avoid most of the attack, but she still took a large amount of damage from it.
"Rin!" Screamed Brendan in worry.
But his pokemon looked back with an angry face, though her eyes didn't show signs of defeat. He instantly knew what she was trying to tell him.
"Alright, but try not to push it." Said the teenager, blind to the hypocrisy.
Erica's situation as progressing in the wrong direction. Kyogre's primal form was so powerful that it could ignore its own weaknesses if they were not on its level.
"If that's the case, Groudon probably has the same advantage." Said Erica.
Despite knowing that Kyogre could ignore electric types, she decided to send Raishin out anyway. His strength might be close enough to make a difference.
Upon seeing this newcomer, Kyogre used calm mind to further enhance its defense.
"Raishin, use discharge!" The electric hound jumped close to the water and immediately sparked the entire area.
This attack was successful to an extent as Kyogre struggled a bit while being electrocuted. But once the attack ended, it generated a set of rings.
'That's aqua ring, so its healing itself now.' Thought Erica.
Rearing its head up along with its flippers, Kyogre began to screech loudly. Giant rocks started to form out of nowhere in response before flying towards Raishin and Erica.
"Raishin, use wild charge to dodge!"
The Manetric began to hop with an electric aura around it, avoiding the oncoming attacks. But his trainer wasn't so agile as several rocks impacted against her.
Seeing this beaten girl, Kyogre focused on her. It aimed an aqua tail attack at her, intent on killing her.
"Now Raishin!"
Before Kyogre's attack could connect, Raishin slammed into it with wild charge. Being caught off guard left the pokemon vulnerable to more damage. But this made it angry and it redirected its attack towards him.
Aqua tail's attack force on its own shouldn't have done too much damage, but combined with wild charge's recoil damage was more painful for Raishin.
Erica rushed over to help her partner back up to his paws as he struggled. "You ok?"
The Manetric nodded slowly, but they both knew that one more well-placed attack would knock him out.
It was obvious at this point that Kyogre's special defenses were so high that thunderbolts were practically useless. Attacking close would be risky as it would leave Raishin open to another attack.
'There's got to be a safer way.' Thought Erica as she brainstormed.
But Kyogre would ultimately decide this as it opened its maw and readied to attack with ice beam. Erica grimaced as she knew there was only one solution.
"Discharge!"
Raishin smirked as he released a massive electric spark towards the ice beam. Despite its power, discharge couldn't stop ice beam completely and Raishin took the blow.
Erica cursed herself for failing to combat this opponent properly. She pulled out a pokeball and retrieved her partner. "I'm sorry."
Knowing that Kyogre was quick to attack, Erica wasted no time in releasing Aquarius for the next round.
"Aquarius, use coil."
The water serpent wrapped her body and boosted all of her stats, and she was then met with an ice beam from Kyogre. Luckily the attack wasn't strong enough to defeat her.
"Attack with twister!" Said the Erica.
From the maw of Aquarius spun dragonic energy of great caliber. Kyogre was actually able to feel the blast and take damage from it.
After being hit by that attack, Kyogre proceeded to use calm mind again. Its high stats were enhanced even further, making it even more deadly. But its aqua rings had dissipated, making it vulnerable.
"One more twister should do it." Said Erica.
Her Milotic nodded and prepared the attack. But before she could fire, Kyogre roared and water formed into multiple balls of water in the air.
Erica and Aquarius couldn't react fast enough as the orbs quickly floated towards them and fired. Kyogre had used Origin Pulse.
"Aquarius!" Yelled the champion.
But she was helpless as her pokemon took blows from the omni-directional attack. The sea basin pokemon had made itself so powerful that not even boosted stats could help.
Helpless was the only word that the blonde could describe herself as she watched as her beautiful serpent fell to the ground, defeated.
'I'm sorry, if only I was quicker.' Thought Erica as she retrieved her pokemon.
Behind her, the mighty roar of Kyogre could be heard. Obviously it was gloating at its magnificent power, which irritated Erica.
"You know, I've dealt with too many crazy people just too lose to a power-crazed pokemon."
Tenacity filled her veins as Erica pushed herself back up and sent Latias out into the battle.
Brendan and Rin continued to face Groudon despite the fact that one well placed blow could be enough to kill either one of them.
'I've got an idea in mind.' Thought the brunette.
He placed his palm in front of Rin's face before sprinting across the platform, she and Groudon were surprised at his sudden action.
"Hey Groudon, Kyogre is better than you!" Mocked Brendan.
Somehow that insult actually worked and the continent pokemon started towards him. Rin immediately understood the distraction's purpose and attacked Groudon.
Jumping up from behind, she latched her maw onto Groudon's head and crunched it. In response to this, the red giant flailed in pain as it felt the teeth sinking in. Rin was eventually sent flying off of his head onto the ground.
'Oh no.' Brendan looked to Groudon and saw it summon rocks from the ground before launching them at Rin.
The Mightyena took a brutal beating from the attack before her trainer jumped in and saved her, taking a few blows himself.
"Are you alright?" Asked Brendan.
His partner responded by licking one of the areas where he had been injured before fainting.
He silently congratulated her for persevering for so long against the odds. But personally, he hadn't come anywhere close to giving up, made evident by his next partner.
"Lets do this, Apato!" The Breloom came out with fists pumped for action.
Instead of showing any signs of irritation at this persistence, Groudon just closed it eyes and bobbed its head down.
Brendan and Apato were left baffled as they realized that their opponent just went to sleep in front of them.
"I know that Erica is better than me, but that's just cruel!" Yelled Brendan angrily.
Apato agreed with this and was about to fist into Groudon, but was actually stopped by his trainer.
"Seed bomb will work better." Said the brunette as he made note of the lava.
The Breloom realized the benefits of that strategy and decided to follow through with it. The bulbs were launched from his tail and succeeded in exploding atop Groudon. However, it continued to sleep despite being bombarded.
"I guess that guy's tough even when he's sleeping." Apato nodded at that statement. "Use leech seed."
Apato followed through with his trainer's command and launched a few more seeds on Groudon's backside. The only difference this time is that they sprouted on it.
Brendan smirked as the energy was fed to his pokemon, making for a good tactical advantage.
But this advantage wouldn't stay for much longer as Groudon woke up from its rest. Barely any time passed before it could feel the leech seeds on its back.
"Back up Apato." Instructed Brendan. "He looks mad."
True to what had been said, the lava around Groudon's body became whiter, as if it was heating up. Then the leech seeds ignited and burned down.
'Crap, so much for tactics.' Thought Brendan.
To add insult to injury, Groudon began to charge up a massive amount of energy. Both trainer and pokemon could sense that a powerful attack was about to strike.
Before anymore actions could be made, Groudon roared and raised its arms high. The ground shook and stalagmites rose from the surface all around the area, Precipice Blades. Seeing this level of power left Apato scared.
"Dodge it!" Said Brendan as he bolted out of the way.
Assured by his trainer's words, the Breloom jumped up and sprinted from the attack. But his speed wasn't fast enough as he became trapped before being struck into the air.
"Don't give up, seed bomb!" Encouraged the brunette.
His partner heard those words and kept fighting, despite being launched in the air. Seeds were launched from his tail and detonated in Groudon's face.
Apato landed right into the arms of his trainer. He tried to continue moving despite the amount of energy that he had lost.
"Its alright buddy." Said Brendan. "You've done enough for this battle."
The grass-fighting type didn't want to give up, but his lack of energy made that call for him. Brendan returned him to the pokeball for some rest.
When the smoke around Groudon's head cleared, it could clearly see that the boy before it was now accompanied by a dragon.
'Are you ready for this?'
'I've been waiting for this for too long.' Said Latios.
Steven and Wallace continued to watch as the weather clashed in the sky above them. Seeing this odd phenomenon left the geologist with so much that was unanswered.
'Pokémon and people...we need sunlight and water to live. So then, why does this fill us with so much dread?'
Wallace grew tired of gazing at the sky and looked at the closed doors. He too could feel dread creeping in his thoughts.
'If either one of those pokemon were to escape the cave, the seal would break. Even though that boy beat us, it wasn't a full-fledged battle.' Thought the gym leader.
Across oceans, there were some who could detect the oncoming threat to the whole world. Specifically, those who had dealt with similar situations.
'That weather is progressing towards a horrible outcome.'
Keith continued to see the footage being broadcasted to him from the holo-caster news. Being forced to stay in Kanto wasn't what he wanted to do, but no pokemon could cross through the weather as it had gotten worse.
"I may not have failed as a champion. But maybe as a friend."
His foul mood was tossed aside when a call started to come through to him. Accepting it showed him a hologram of his rival.
"You see it too, don't you?"
'Yeah. And by the looks of things, its only getting worse.' Stated Brett.
Irritated, Keith took off his glasses and rubbed the sweat off his forehead. And it was easily deducible that Brett was also grounded.
'I know that you want to help her. But what we really need to do is believe in her.'
"Once again, you're right. I just hope she can win and live." Explained Keith.
'Same here buddy, same here.' Reassured the Johto Champion.
Erica understood the situation at hand, but she didn't anticipate there to be any hindrances in her partners.
'I don't understand Latias.'
'Neither do I, but you can't mega evolve me now.'
Kyogre pointed its mouth at Latias and shot ice beam before the dragon dodged it.
'The powers in the mega stone have drained it to a point where it won't conduct energy.' Explained Latias.
Explanations aside, seeing the proof would be better evidence. Erica pulled out the Latiasite to find that it had turned to opaque stone.
"It really is unusable." Whispered the blonde. "Then attack with dragon pulse!"
Latias could feel the frustration coming from her trainer, but obeyed the command anyway. She blasted back at Kyogre and successfully damaged it.
Just the sight of that red dragon was enough to irritate the sea basin pokemon. This side of emotion was enough to be visible for Erica to see.
'Did that attack really make it more mad?'
'Probably, but it's more likely that Kyogre remembers me from eons ago.' Explained Latias.
That irritated attitude led the blue giant to jump out of the water to attack with aqua tail. Having four tails made it harder to dodge that attack, thus the psychic dragon was hit down.
Erica knew that Latias wasn't going to be defeated by one shot, so she continued with the battle.
"Use mist ball!" Said the blonde.
Latias gathered psychic energy around her mouth and launched the attack at Kyogre's torso before it landed.
Tactical planning came to fruition as he water legend's long range attack power had diminished. However, Kyogre's next attack in the form of water pulse was still potent.
Though powerful, water pulse was avoidable for the flying dragon. Erica mounted Latias and was able to avoid damage as well.
'I don't understand, mist ball should've made that weaker.'
'Kyogre's primordial sea is enhancing its powers.' Answered Latias before dropping her trainer away from danger.
Verifying this by placing her hand out, Erica could sense something odd about the rainfall in the cavern.
But Kyogre's self-boost to power wouldn't be nearly enough to stop her. Every pokemon has a weakness, and she already knew what to do here.
"Use dragon claw!" Yelled the heroine.
Instinctively, Latias was confused as to that choice of attack. But she trusted Erica's tactics and flew forward.
Her claw bathed in dragonic energy before clawing at the alpha on Kyogre's head. Surprisingly, the beast writhed in pain for a few moments.
'Why did that work?' Asked a baffled dragon.
'Because up until now, Kyogre has been boosting its special defense and special attack.'
Semi-constant use of calm mind had done nothing to enhance Kyogre's physical defense or attack at all. Realizing its current flaw made the mighty pokemon angry.
Once again, it aimed at attacking Erica personally. Jumping out of the water, Kyogre aimed to crush the human with a body slam.
'No!' Yelled Latias as she pushed her trainer out of the way.
Erica could see that her partner was about to take the full force of Kyogre's weight and panicked. Her impulses took over but it wouldn't be completely bad.
"Zen headbutt!"
Only a two seconds were given to Latias for her to react. She used it efficiently as her attack collided with body slam.
The two forces pushed against one another greatly, and it held at a temporary standstill. That was until the force of zen headbutt pushed Latias away from under Kyogre and sent her into the wall nearby.
Erica bolted over to her friend while Kyogre fell to the ground. Seeing an opportunity at hand here, the water legendary pushed itself off the ground.
'Latias, are you hurt?'
'Don't worry, I'm-LOOK OUT!'
Listening to her friend, Erica turned around to see that Kyogre had fired origin pulse at the two. Surrounded by orbs, there wasn't even a second left to react.
The blast wave was devastating and without haste. Curious to see what had happened to its opponents, Kyogre peered into the wall where the attack landed.
Much to its surprise, Erica stood in front of Latias. Still alive, but badly injured.
"Surprised?" Mocked the blonde.
Latias struggled in her weakened state to help Erica. But she had so little energy left that it was a miracle that she was still alive.
'Er...ica...'
She couldn't send out anymore thoughts before passing out on the ground. Briskly, she was returned to the pokeball.
'You've done enough Latias. We'll take over here.'
Erica picked out one of her last two pokeballs and sent out Tetsa, who roared for battle.
Comparable to the battle against Kyogre, Brendan's battle against Groudon had escalated to a point where he would need to use Latios.
The ground-fire type loomed over both of his opponents, but his glare was even more intimidating than it was before.
'What's gotten into him?'
'Groudon is probably angry about me being here.' Answered Latios.
In the face of danger, Brendan didn't lose any of his confidence. He reached over to his mega bracelet and attempted to mega evolve Latios, but the process didn't work.
Groudon, still somewhat enraged at the sights before it, reared up and fired lava plume.
'Crap! What happened?' The brunette ran to avoid being scorched.
'You used up too much energy in the mega stone, so none of it could reach me.'
Latios attempted evasive maneuvers, but still wound up taking some of the literal heat. The injury was severe and forced him to descend.
Brendan saw the damage that Latios had taken and was left confused. Normally the dragon had good tolerance to long range attacks like fire, but this was something else.
'How could he...the light!' Thought the brunette as he looked up to the near blinding light.
'That must be Groudon's desolate land, its powering his attacks.'
Knowing the advantages of his opponent, Brendan figured that there was truly no form of tactics to use.
"Alright, use dragon pulse!"
Latios also understood that there was little that they could exploit, so he attacked. The blast was successful in hitting Groudon, but it would take a lot more than just that.
In response to attack, Groudon fired a powerful solarbeam. On instinct, Latios fired a dragon pulse into the attack to combat it.
Despite the effort, the dragonic energy couldn't overpower the hyper energy of solarbeam. The conflicting powers were pushed to the ground, and towards Latios and Brendan.
Groudon leaned over to assure itself of its defeated opponents. However, it was meant with a mist ball from above.
"Nice reflexes Latios." Congratulated Brendan as he and the pokemon flew above their opponent.
'Well, you did grab me so we could fly at the last moment.'
Aiming its angry gaze up at its opponents, Groudon began to use ancient power for an attack.
'Luster purge!'
Latios heard his trainer's mental command and unleashed the power attack which hindered Groudon's vision for a few seconds.
When the giant could see clearly again, it noticed that the blue dragon was radiating with dragonic energy.
'You knew that I was going to say dragon dance?'
'I guess we just think alike.'
Instead of staying idle and giving their opponent a chance to attack, the two started to zoom around the chamber. The increased speed was making it difficult to be hit.
All that Groudon did in response to this was glare and breath heavily. Rising up almost to the top, Latios performed one more dragon dance before plummeting down.
"Dragon claw!" Yelled Brendan.
Latios cloaked his right claw in the energy surrounding him, and then he gouged that attack into Groudon's head. The giant actually was forced back a little.
"Yeah we did it!"
'Wait, something's not right.' Warned Latios.
Brendan remained incredulous till he saw that his pokemon's claw was shaking. Looking further showed him that Groudon's chest had risen higher than before.
'It was using bulk up again!'
Before any other action could be made, Groudon pushed them back and reared up its claw for hammer arm.
Reflexes took over for Latios as he jammed a dragon claw into Groudon's fist, and the two were met at a temporary stand off. Brendan jumped up and tried to assist by punching, but that only loosened his pokemon's grip.
Trainer and pokemon were knocked down to the ground by the enormous amount of Groudon's strength. Their plunder gave the giant an opportunity to call upon precipice blades and attack.
Brendan and Latios had little time to react as the attack surrounded them before detonating.
But when the smoke cleared, it was revealed that Brendan survived due to Latios covering him with his body.
'You protected me, why?' The blue dragon looked back at his trainer with a familiar grin.
'My duty was to stop Groudon and Kyogre. I failed in that regard, but I didn't want to let my friend get hurt.'
Latios then fainted onto the ground, defeated but with a smile. Brendan should've been weighed down by the current situation, having only two pokemon left.
But seeing that smile on his friend's face didn't allow him to be deterred.
'Latios...we'll carry on for you.'
Brendan retrieved his fainted partner and quickly summoned Natsumi for the battle.
Groudon became even more irritated at how long this battle had been prolonged. So it expressed that rage in the form of a massive lava plume.
Instead of trying to dodge it, Natsumi jumped over to Brendan and covered them both in her tails. And to Groudon's surprise, the lava was absorbed by the fox.
"Use payback!" Said Brendan.
Natsumi leapt up and was boosted by her trainer before she impacted against Groudon. The impact power was doubled due to attacking second.
Right after being hit, Groudon charged up its solarbeam and fired it at pointblank range onto the Ninetails. Being hit by that attack sent her back to the ground fast.
"I got you." Screamed the brunette as he jumped up and grabbed his partner, softening her fall.
Despite his intervention, Natsumi still fell to the ground and carried her trainer down with her. She quickly got back up and helped him up as well.
Brendan looked up and noticed Groudon's fist raining down towards them. "Use extrasensory!"
Natsumi focused her mental power greatly and assaulted the giant, causing it to flinch and cancel the attack.
"Now use fire spin!" Commanded the brunette.
Even though the idea sounded ludicrous in nature, Natsumi followed her trainer's command perfectly. The flames surrounded Groudon in a twister, keeping it from escaping the Cave of Origin.
For a few seconds, this looked like it was working. But with little effort, Groudon burst out of the fire, dissipating it entirely.
Not willing to give them another second to react, the continent pokemon quickly barraged its enemies with ancient power.
Since rock can easily defeat fire, Natsumi was knocked out from the attack. She seemed sad before fainting, a trait that her friend picked up on.
"Don't worry, you fought hard." Said Brendan before retrieving her.
Erica and Tetsa watched the water surface carefully for wherever Kyogre would plan to splash out of. They were alerted to bubbling water from behind when the enemy jumped out to attack.
The blue pokemon fired a few rings of water pulse at Tetsa, who took a large amount of damage from it.
"Don't give up, use rock tomb." Said Erica.
Tetsa slammed her feet into the ground, causing fragments of the ceiling to break off and plunder to Kyogre.
After being hit from that attack, the sea basin pokemon jumped and struck down with aqua tail. However, the attack was stopped upon hitting some weird barrier.
Then Tetsa burst out of her shell and attacked with thunderbolt, dealing a good amount of damage and lowering speed.
Kyogre, now irritated after that counter strategy, used water pulse again. This time, after being hit by the attack, Tetsa was left in a confused state.
"Tetsa! Come on, snap out of it!" Said Erica as she tried to help her pokemon.
But sadly, the steel-rock type was left dazed and confused even with help. Being incapacitated was more than enough for Kyogre to attack again.
"Use thunderbolt again!" Yelled the blonde.
Despite hearing the order to attack, all that Tetsa could do was turn her head in a dizzy manner. Kyogre took this opportunity to attack with another water pulse.
Erica would've been caught in the attack, but she was pushed out of the way by her pokemon's tail. Tetsa fainted almost immediately after being hit by that last attack.
"Thank you for protecting me." Said the girl before returning her partner.
Kyogre looked up to the azure crystals hanging from the ceiling. The blue beast roared and thrust its fins upward, as if calling to something.
Groudon reared its head up to the crimson crystals above it. The red behemoth roared and flexed its body, calling to something.
"Seeing you like that, I know that you're going to try to leave. But we won't let you." Erica pulled out her last pokemon, Amber. "We've got so many things and people that we want to go back to."
"I know that you're powerful, and that you could easily kill a lot of people, but there is no way you'll get out of here." Brendan called upon his last pokemon, Aqua. "We promised to protect so many things, and we've got so much left to do."
Both trainers reached to their left wrists.
'But most importantly to me-'
They induced the mega evolution, their partners surged with power far beyond the last time or even the eon twins.
'I have somebody who loves me!'
Amber mega evolved into Mega Blaziken. Aqua mega evolved into Mega Swampert.
Seeing this explosion of energy actually caused the primal pokemon to stop and recognize this power.
Kyogre splashed out and attacked with aqua tail, but it was met with a kick from Amber, followed by a second kick to attack.
"Nice job Amber!" Cheered the blonde as her partner understood the unspoken command. "Now hit it with blaze kick!"
'Even though it would be weakened by primordial sea, it should still have STAB.'
Amber understood her trainer's tactics and jumped up to deliver a fiery kick from above. But the fire instantly dissipated before impact, weakening the blow. This surprised both trainer and pokemon.
This instance of surprise was perfect for Kyogre and it fought back with body slam and water pulse.
The attack knocked Amber by into Erica, pushing them both to the ground as the blonde realized her fault.
"Primordial Sea is enhanced rainfall, I should've known that it would've doused all fire." But despite the fact that the odds weren't in her favor, the blonde still smirked.
For some reason, Amber also felt this confident feeling in herself. She and her trainer stood back up as Kyogre jumped out to attack again.
"Attack with power-up-punch!"
Right as the beast was about to use aqua tail, it was fisted in the face with Amber's right claw. Agitated, Kyogre tried to attack with ancient power. But Amber grabbed Erica and sprinted with amazing speed.
Using this increased speed, the Blaziken dodged the oncoming attack. Erica pointed up and her pokemon followed the command to jump up.
"Now attack with rock smash!"
Amber descended rapidly, intent on smashing Kyogre into submission.
But suddenly, Kyogre lashed out with aqua tail and slammed Erica and Amber into the wall. A cloud of dust and smoked covered the two as the force was tremendous, and would question if they even survived.
However, after the previous follies, the blue pokemon was going to make sure that they wouldn't survive by firing origin pulse from a distance.
Kyogre fired origin pulse at the dust clouds, but the attack was quickly met with a golden aura that was carried Erica and Amber right into it. They broke straight through origin pulse and punched the surprised Kyogre. It tried to resist, but the power of the attack was too great.
"Tenacious Fist!"
Groudon roared and attacked with hammer arm, but his attack was stopped by Aqua's protect. The shield disentigrated with allowed for Aqua to attack with rock smash.
"Awesome Aqua!" Yelled Brendan. "Now hit him with some muddy water!"
'I know that the sunlight might weaken the attack, but Groudon's still weak to an attack like that.'
The Swampert understood what his trainer was aiming to do and raised up a wave using his own energy. But the attack evaporated before it even came close. Obviously it surprised both Brendan and Aqua.
Groudon took this opportunity and attacked with solarbeam.
"Hit the ground!" Yelled the hero.
Aqua, not knowing anything else to do, slammed his fist into the ground and pushed a rock up to weaken solarbeam.
Brendan quickly realized his mistake as he looked up to the light. 'That sunlight must be powerful enough to dry the water.'
Now that he knew that water wouldn't work, the hero started to think of another strategy that could deal damage to Groudon.
"Aqua, use mud bomb!"
The water-ground type gathered up some of the water from earlier and formed it into a large sphere before tossing it at Groudon.
Brendan and Aqua felt a surge of confidence knowing that they could still attack Groudon and hurt it. They both smirked at the possibility that they could win this.
But Groudon wasn't about to just let that happen. It lashed out and tried to smash them with hammer arm, using both of its arms.
"Not gonna happen!" Yelled Brendan as he and Aqua both held the fists back up with all of their might.
Summoning any amount of energy that they had, pokemon and trainer pushed the giant back.
"Now mud shot!" Ordered the hero.
Taking advantage of the moment, Aqua shot out mud from his mouth with hit Groudon in the torso. And after being hit by it, the continent pokemon seemed to slow down, this looked like victory.
But suddenly, Groudon shot a solarbeam right at Aqua, who couldn't react in time to stop it. Brendan didn't have any time to react either as his friend was pushed into him.
Brendan and Aqua landed against the wall before an explosion occurred.
Neither of them moved from the resulting smoke. It looked as if it was over. Despite its confidence in its power, Groudon chose to attack again so it could be completely sure.
Roaring once more, Groudon summoned its precipice blades to destroy what was left of its enemies.
'I know that you're strong...I know that your power is stronger than mega evolution...but...'
The blades tore into the area where Brendan and Aqua were before detonating.
But then, the smoke was pushed away by some red aura that covered Brendan and Aqua. The two of them glared at Groudon with passion and power.
"But we've got the passion to fight! And I know we can break through any limit with that!"
Aqua and Brendan started to fly with the red aura cloaked around them. They reared their right fists forward, and slammed right into the baffled Groudon's torso. The beast tried to withstand it with all its might, but Brendan tried to win with all his passion.
"RAAAAAUUUUUGGGHHHH!"
Their power pulled through, and Groudon was sent into the wall.
Primal pokemon were hit with so much force that they were barely conscious. Their anger boiled after being humiliated by such power, but they barely had the energy to move much less fight.
Brendan and Erica took this opportunity to pull out the Magma Ball and Aqua Ball respectively before launching them. The specialized pokeballs capture the pokemon and returned to the trainers.
In the hands of their trainers, the pokeballs continued to shake. It seemed that Groudon and Kyogre hadn't give up yet.
'Come on, you can't be serious.'
'Just give it up, you've lost.'
...Click
As if in response to those thoughts, the pokeballs stopped shaking and clicked.
Congratulations to the heroes, the primal pokemon had been caught.
The mega evolved pokemon descended from their powered states and clearly showed happiness. They were returned to the pokeballs as they needed the rest after those battles.
But immediately after that, the Cave of Origin started to quake. It seemed that the environment was starting to shift, the seal was breaking loose and the cave was crumbling.
Brendan and Erica immediately looked around for anything that could possibly help. Luckily there were exits nearby.
They wasted no time running out those doors to freedom. But their escapes were starting to cut short as a day's worth of battles and injuries finally caught up to them and slowed them down.
With weak bodies and unstable ground, the two succumbed.
"Brendan..."
"...Erica..."
Well, this chapter took much longer than I wanted it too. Hope you guys like it, leave a review for it or something. It might take some more time to put up another chapter after this because I'll be busy with many other things. But hopefully it won't take too long.
