Chapter 25: Interruptions
The sun poured into the room gently that morning. Mariah smiled and nuzzled into her warm pillow. She felt blissfully relaxed and comfortable stretching her limbs a little bit. Her hands came up and touched the chest beneath her hoping that Remy was true to his word. She slowly lifted her head and looked over to see a very sexy Remy passed out underneath her. Her heart pounded at seeing him so wild, rugged, and most of all…seeing him in general. She reached out and touched his hair playing with the strands of auburn hair.
He was still here. He wasn't running off to god know's where this time. She sat up a little bit more feeling his strong arm around her waist with the other above his head laying gently. He held her tightly as if she would be the one to vanish. She smiled at this and bent to kiss the center of his chest.
How I missed you. She thought committing everything to memory about him. Her fingers trailed the lines of his jaw. His looks, his tobacco and cologne smell, how untamed his hair lay spilled over to the side. She brushed it back to see his face more underneath the sunlight. She watched him breathe in softly.
Smiling in bliss she lowered her head on his chest and laid there. Slowly she felt his fingers move tracing small circles on her lower back where the base of her spine was. She looked up to see him smirk but not move.
"Good Morning." She muttered.
He cracked an eye open before the other. Two black and red marbles stared down at her. "Good Morning Cher." He said huskily. He looked her over with a growing smile. "Had I known mornin's were like dis, I would ave' tried 'arder ta' get yo' to bed Amor." He leaned down and kissed her forehead before she lifted her chin to kiss his lips.
He pulled back to look at her again while surveying the room. Light poured in through the windows highlighting the dark wood furniture in the room. His shirt and pants mingled along the floor along with her dress and under garments. A few pillows and sheets also decorated the floor with the lovely sight of the Eiffel Tower shining in the distance of their window. And his nice view was complete as he looked down to see his beautiful fille sprawled in his arms in all of her naked glory.
She looked up at him and smiled. "I'm glad we waited till we were in Paris though." Her fingers came up to mimic his own fingers on his chest.
They laid that way for another hour just happy to be back together. Slowly Mariah's reasoning's began to catch up as she thought about what this new day would bring. They needed a plan and to come to an understanding. Remy slowly sat up and pulled her up to him so that they were both upright but she laid on him. He kissed her forehead again and sighed.
"I planned on a much mo' romantic evening Cher." He said thinking about all the chaos last night. Once again he managed to screw up.
She smiled. "I thought it was one of your grandest entrances ever. Completely in Remy fashion no less."
He smirked. "Well, I do everythin' wit' class gal. With class."
She laughed hard at this missing his arrogant sense of humor so. "Would yo' believe I had a lot mo' planned fo' us." He said as his laughter died down. Mariah sat up to look at him questioningly.
"What else could you have done?" She asked.
He nudged toward the dresser a few feet away with a black bag on top. She looked back at him as he nodded for her to get it. She slowly crawled out of bed taking the lighter sheet with her to wrap around her body. She walked over to the little bag before emptying it finding a little red velvet box. Her heart beat a little bit fast at her discovery.
"I had dis' whole plan set out fo' yo'. I was goin ta' surprise yo' earlier an' din do everythin I could ta' woo yo; back ta' me." He said with a heavy sigh. "But it seemed like everytime I got close yo' disappeared. From de park, to de garden, de opera…"
"You were there!" She exclaimed turning with the gift in her hand. She watched him nod and look a bit defeated. Her mind thought back to all those places and times she swore she saw him. He really was there coming for her. How she was so blind to have missed him. She looked down at the gift before smiling to herself. She opened it slowly to see a ring with diamonds in the shape of the infinity symbol making the band. Tears welled in her eyes at his gift to her and what he wanted with her. She smiled brighter before turning to look at him again and walking slowly to him.
"If yo' go in ya room, yo' would fine I sent yo' flowers too." He said thinking of everything he'd done. He really loved her. Not having her in his life was hard. What was harder was seeing her and not being able to say or touch her. He looked up from his thoughts to see her standing in front of him giving him the gift.
"What would you have done with this Remy Lebeau?" She asked lowly hoping it was what she thought it would be.
He blinked a few times looking at her question before realizing she was giving him an opportunity. His heart suddenly began to beat fast as he sat up slowly and moved off of the bed. He took a sheet and wrapped it around his waist. He felt so nervous but he couldn't deny he'd waited for this the moment he left his fathers to find her. She was his and no one else's. He clutched the box in one hand and then took her hand in the other. He guided her in front of the window where the Eiffel Tower stood as her backdrop.
Mariah smiled as little tears began to swell as she stood there. She watched him slowly kneel down in front of her with the box. Remy looked up to see what he hoped to be his future wife wrapped in a white sheet with her hair messy from their passionate evening with the Eifel Tower behind her. Her eyes sparkled as the sun reflected off the tears building in her eyes.
He opened the box and held it up to her. "Would yo' please amor make me de 'appiest man on dis earth by becomin' my wife?" He asked as she squealed in her spot and bounced on the tips of her toes.
She squealed out what he hoped was a yes before she practically tackled his face with her lips completely forgetting about the ring. He smiled and laughed as his face was assaulted with kisses. "Maybe I should ave' done dis sooner too!" He said as she finally sat up and put the ring on her finger. He smiled and stood as he picked her up and swung her around.
Remy watched as her eyes sparkled looking down at him and he swore it was one of the best jewels he'd ever seen in his life. The sun light captured her skin as it still glowed from their night of passion. Her hair wildly fell in various directions on the crown of her head. Her face was lit up with a bright megawatt smile that shined down on him and he vowed to do everything to keep it. Such a vision on the early morning everyday would truly be worth living for. This must be what masterpieces were inspired by in the classics. His spin whined down as he held her in the air like a trophy he'd won for going through hell and back. From his days with rogue till now, it had brought him this one gift. Then he stopped completely as the smile left his face. Slowly he watched as her face went from jubilee to confusion with eyebrows that folded inward. He stopped and looked at her as she touched his forehead.
Mariah swore she saw something flash on the top of Remy's head. Her slim finger glided over his skin and brushed a few strands from his red hair back. Then she saw it again. A tiny red dot centered on his forehead and then it vanished. Her face fell at her thoughts and then just as quickly she pushed him down hard as something shot down at him.
Landing hard on the pasty carpeted floor, both hovered down avoiding the ballistics coming from the window. All was still as Remy shielded Mariah's body with his own for a moment before he rolled with her out of harm's way into the bathroom. Mariah looked down to see it was some kind of a tranquilizer aimed at them lying on the floor. They waited a few more minutes but nothing happened.
Remy looked up gripping the sheet around his waist tightly muttering a string of curse words underneath his breath. He gripped her shoulders and rubbed them quickly. "Let's go amor!" He stated before running out into his room and grabbing his jacket with his weapons. He quickly grabbed his pants and his combat attire and threw them on.
"Cher go check on de' kids, I'll go after de' crook!" He yelled clicking his bo staff. Mariah gripped the sheet around her body tightly, nodded, and looked up watching Remy get dressed in record breaking seconds before he ran to the window. He opened it up and jumped outside to chase after whoever was responsible.
Mariah quickly ran to the closet ducking the whole time and threw on a pair of jeans and one of Remy's shirts. Grabbing her cell she called the Duchess. It rang a few times to the agitation of Mariah as she ran to pick up the tranquilizer.
"Bonjour Cher!" Answered the Duchess. "I see everything is as it should be?"
"Are you safe?!"She asked quickly cutting her off.
"Yes, I'm quite alright. Is everything ok?"
"Where are the kids?" She asked in urgency hoping they were safe. She looked down at the tranquilizer noting the clear liquid and this substance.
"Why they went back to your residence after you left. Dear is everything alright-"
"No time to explain but make sure you stay on alert. We're fine. I'll call you back in a few!"
"But-"
Mariah quickly hung up the phone and placed the tranquilizer down. She flipped her phone over to take out the sims card before sliding it into her back pocket just in case it was being hacked. Swallowing with high nerves she picked up her new weapon and ran towards the front door throwing it open. To her shock two men stood in front of her. Both were dressed like Assassins from the guilds in New Orleans. Confused she backed up as they smirked and came running at her. She quickly upper-cutted one and flipped over the other. With the tranquilizer still in her grasp she stabbed each one with it pushing some of the clear liquid into their systems. She watched as they fell limp and still on the carpeted floor. She then dragged them outside into the hallway careful of any stragglers. Seeing none she saw a closet and immediately lifted them both into its corridor and closed it shut.
After disposing them she ran to the room next door and busted inside of it. Walking through the suite quickly she came to the living room to see no one there. Running through all the rooms she came across nothing. Turning around towards the door she screamed before catching herself and running up to a very pink and sweaty looking Elizabeth.
"Mariah! We got em!"
"Wha-"
Just then Mariah looked up to see Remy and Chris walk in dragging a knocked out gunman. On Remy's back sat a sniper rifle. Rasing her eyebrow in question, Remy smirked. "Don't worry Cher. We took the back door."
Rolling her eyes she looked at him again. "How did you catch him so quickly?" She asked in awe noticing how they were just shot at not too long ago. How could they have got him if he was in another location?
She watched them put the man on the floor. Chris unceremoniously ripped off the man's jacket and hat. He pulled out some bindings at wrapped the man's arms tightly.
"I had a vision. I thought it was a dream but I focused this time. I saw him and what he was about to do. I walked through the location and woke up." Elizabeth said as she sat down on the floor heavily clutching her head. "I thought it was a dream but then I realized the déjà vu feeling was back. So it was a vision." Mariah quickly walked over to her and rubbed her back. The girl was stronger than she realized. She kissed her cheek.
"Thank you so much!" She muttered.
"She's got a real gift cher. I didn't get out de' window good fore' I got a call from Chris sayin' he got em. When I came over, he was movin' him on a breakfast cart down de hallway o' de hotel on de side o' us."
Mariah looked up at Chris who blushed sheepishly. "Ah it was nutin'. Names Chris, mam." He said slightly introducing himself.
Mariah smiled at the young man. "Nice to finally meet you. So you're the reason Elizabeth disappears after lunch." She looked down to see a blushing Elizabeth. She stood up with a laugh and walked over to the guy. "Well good job Chris. Now who is he?"
Remy sighed and pulled back the guy's sleeve. Mariah frowned at the telltale sign etched into the skin of the rugged man laying limp inside of the suite. She looked up into the face of Remy as he nodded to confirm her thoughts.
"An Assassin."
