Sitting on the roof of the school, Haruhi raised the cigarette to her lips and inhaled the smoke. She exhaled the thick cloud of white and watched as it dispersed around her and was ripped away with the wind. Her father had never smoked before, but he had occasionally brought a package of smokes back due to customers wanting some and he forgot the package in his pocket. When she was in middle school she had friends whose parents smoked to calm themselves down, and it stuck in her brain during one stressful night. She stole away with the package and a lighter. Sitting in the dark at the park and tried a smoke.

Now, she smoked after the hosting hours were over and everyone had already gone home. To melt away the stress of the day. She knew that it was corrupting her body, she knew it was damaging her lungs, she knew it could give her cancer. Yet, she didn't care. It helped her now. It was the way she could toss her cares into the wind. It was how she got through the day without snapping. With the twins tugging on her arms, Tamaki shouting about them molesting her, Mitsukuni running about and devouring cakes, Kyouya threatening to raise her debt, even Takashi was starting to bug her with his passive attitude towards it all.

How could he deal with all of them without snapping? She ground her teeth together, took another drag on the smoke, and held it in for a few seconds before slowly exhaling. He and Kyouya were always so calm, and yet they could stand those four acting so ridiculous. How could they stand it?

Another drag, another cloud of smoke. She only allowed herself one smoke a day; she would be jittery all day long until she got to climb the stairs and flicked the lighter on. That one smoke burned quickly, and she was always craving another one, but she only brought one to school. Tucking it away in her bag so it wouldn't bend and break.

Once it burned through, she flicked it onto the roof and lifted her bag. Checking through it before she realized she left one of her notebooks back in the Third Music Room. She exhaled lightly, oh well, it can't be helped. She was so anxious to go for a smoke.

Haruhi climbed down the stairs and headed for the room. She opened the door; Kyouya had given her an extra key. Knowing that she was always the last one to leave, and if she ever forgotten anything there wouldn't be anyone there to let her in. Instead of being faced with the dark music room, she was expecting, she saw the lights were on and seven men sitting in the room. She frowned. "Did you guys have a meeting without me?" she questioned lingering at the door, instead of heading straight for the notebook by the seven of them. She was starting to feel as if someone had taken her notebook so she would come back to the room.

"We were waiting for you," Kyouya spoke, adjusting his glasses. Tamaki looked as if he wanted to jump up and embrace Haruhi. However, Hikaru had his arms over the back of the couch, his thumb touching the king's shoulder, reminding him that there was someone ready to sit him down if he did so. Kyouya lifted the notebook and passed it to Takashi, who extended his arm towards Haruhi. "Just one question, and then you can leave," Kyouya said with a smile.

Did Haruhi really need that notebook? She could study with what she had. "What's the question?" Haruhi asked, still standing by the door.

"You realize it's illegal to smoke on school property?" Kyouya's smile didn't leave his face. However, he didn't get the reaction he wanted from Haruhi. She donned a confused look.

"Yes, I realize that, but why is it relevant?" she asked, taking a few steps forwards. Wondering how close she could get before she could reach her notebook. Kyouya continued to smile.

"Oh, no reason, you can take your notebook and leave," he waved a hand and turned his gaze back down to the notebook. The others looked at him, including the man holding her notebook. She walked over and grabbed it. However, Takashi turned around, not releasing the book. Tugging her close. Lifting the fabric of her sleeve to his nose and sniffing.

"Smoke."

Tamaki burst out then. "My darling daughter is smoking, it must mean that her father is in trouble and she's joined the yukaza!"

"I haven't joined anything," Haruhi said bluntly, pulling the notebook and her sleeve from Takashi's grip. "You're not my father, and my actual father is not in trouble at all. Honestly, you guys have to do this in this way? You could've just asked me," she replied shaking her head, tucking the notebook into her bag. "I'm not ashamed of it, and I'm not going to quit-"

"You should," Takashi spoke up, surprising the others, Haruhi included. "It is damaging your body."

"I know that, but either the cigarette smoke does it or the stress does it," Haruhi replied shaking her head, and then she smiled at them. "I'll see you tomorrow."

As she walked away, Kyouya stood up. "Smoking on school property is grounds to automatic expulsion."

This caused her to pause and turn around, "Then I'll smoke somewhere else."

"We'll kick you out of the host club," Kyouya continued, causing everyone's heads to snap towards Kyouya. Tamaki stood up, ready to intervene, but Kyouya held up his hands. "We cannot have someone who is portraying badly towards the Hosts."

Haruhi sighed, "Then I'll find another way to pay you back."

Kyouya knew that he wasn't going to win this time, unless he aimed lowly. "Now that your boyfriend knows about you smoking, do you think he will be happy with this knowledge? Do you think he'll be content with you poisoning your body?"

Tamaki started shouting about Haruhi not allowed to have a boyfriend and how everything was falling apart. He flew into the corner after the twins made a sly comment about him just wanting her to himself and calling him a pervert. Haruhi chewed on her lip, staring at the ceiling.

"If he has a problem with it, then he should talk to me about it," Haruhi spoke, "At the moment I don't see myself being able to stop, and I don't exactly want to."

"Then he should talk to you," Kyouya spoke, "It's an unhealthy hobby that you cannot be caught doing least the school expels you or we have to kick you out of the Host Club."

Haruhi nodded her head curtly, "I'll be sure not to reflect badly on you, Kyouya." She turned and left, slamming the door with extra force. Tamaki flew towards Kyouya, demanding to know who the boyfriend was. The male was silent, shaking his head.

"We have more important things, Tama-chan, than Haru-chan having a boyfriend. She's hurting herself by smoking," Mitsukuni muttered, looking up at his cousin with a frown. The taller man nodded. "Takashi, go and make sure Haru-chan gets home safely, and try to find where she keeps her cigarettes and confiscate them from he," Mitsukuni ordered. The taller man looked uneasy by his request but hurried out the door after the girl. Leaving the remaining five hosts alone.

They bickered over what to do about this, four out of five hosts suggesting ways to stop her forcefully, manipulatively, cunningly and various other ways. Kaoru exhaled and shook his head.

"She will decide what to do on her own. It has to be her or else her quitting will mean nothing. We don't know the extent of her stress, and forcing her to quit cold turkey could be worse. We don't know how much she smokes, apart from the times at school that one cigarette she brings in her bag," Kaoru explained leaning forwards and lifting a cookie from the tray. "That's six smokes a week; twenty four smokes at the most a month. It's not as bad as it could be, not a pack a day."

The others fell silent. "You want to do nothing?" Hikaru asked, frowning at his brother. Kaoru nodded.

"We all know that Mori-senpai will try to do what Hani-senpai wants, but Haruhi will catch him. Get mad at him, he'll say something to her and she'll calm down slightly and think about it. Maybe her father will be home and say something about it as well; if she can be convinced by anyone, it's her father. Mori-senpai is helpful at getting people to notice things about themselves, and let's be honest, it's not our choice."

A while away, a package of cigarettes fell into the trashcan and proud grey eyes stared into brown ones.

R&R! I have pairings for up to chapter 30 because I have ideas for/written them already, so I am sorry!

1/4 done! Only 75 more chapters to go! I just realized at the rate I'm going, this story will be finished in April of next year. Maybe I should do two a week? Thoughts? That'll mean it'll be finished around Halloween.
