Ruby POV:
"Ugh..." I groan as I sit up in bed. The sun streams in, and I can feel my head throbbing just from the light filtering in. "What happened last night?"
"You got drunk off your ass." Weiss mutters. She stands in her usual attire, hair up in an elegant bun.
"Why are you up so early?" I rub my temples, trying to ease the hangover. It doesn't work.
"It's noon!" Weiss exclaims and I wince in pain. "You've already slept half the day away."
"Sorry, I was tired." I pout. "We got home really late, and it's a weekend anyway, it's not like I missed any classes."
Weiss sighs, sitting down next to me. "I'm sorry I shouted Ruby."
"It's okay." I continue to pout.
"Come on now, smile for me." Weiss begins to tickle my sides, making me giggle. She tickles me more and I burst into a fit of laughter. "There's that smile."
"Okay, okay, I smiled!" I laugh as she tickles me more. "Now stop tickling!"
Weiss giggles as she halts her onslaught. I sit back up, smiling widely at her. "What are we gonna do today?"
"Well, I was asked to do another press conference this morning, and later tonight..." Weiss smile suddenly falls. No. It more than falls, it plummets from a cliff. "My father wants me to come over and talk with him... Along with you and Blake."
I look at Weiss in concern. "You don't have to go if you don't want to."
"No, I've already talked to Blake about it and she agrees that I need to get this out in the open with him." Weiss smiles softly. "Besides, I want to show the world that I have nothing to be ashamed of."
I smile, proud of Weiss for being so brave. Ever since I came out as gay to my father, I've always known he would accept me no matter what. But from what Weiss says, her father doesn't sound like the most supportive man in the world. I wonder what Blake's parents are like.
"Anyway, Yang wants you to work some more on the poster. And you also need to make copies of the flyer you made." Weiss stands, heading for the door.
"Where are you going?" I tilt my head in question.
"I've got some matters to attend to, but Blake is in the library if you need anything." Weiss smiles back at me. "I love you Ruby."
"I love you too." I smile. Weiss heads out the door, closing it behind her. I change out of my clothes from the previous night, having not even changed into my pajamas. I groan as I move around the room, my hangover making my entire body feel like it's made of lead. After getting dressed I head down to the dining hall. Nora, Ren, Yang, Neptune, and Sun sit at a table and I go to sit with them, resting my head on the cool table.
"Morning sis!" Yang chirps happily.
I look up groggily at her. "Maybe for you."
"How's you're hangover?" Nora mumbles. She had a lot to drink, maybe even more than me, and because of it she looks as bad as I feel... And I probably look pretty bad too.
"Painful." I grumble back. She smiles understandingly.
"Someone drank to much and ended the night by throwing up in the club parking lot." Ren smiles, rubbing Nora's back.
"It's not my fault!" Nora whines. "You know you have to stop me from drinking so much!"
Ren sighs but says nothing, simply continuing to rub Nora's back. She smiles at him, her cheek pressed against the table.
"So I heard the press conference went really well." Sun smiled broadly.
I nod, managing to smile softly. "Yeah, it went better then I ever could have expected."
"I wouldn't say that exactly." I turn at the sound of Pyrrha's voice. She frowns, a magazine and a newspaper in her hand. "Read this."
I sit up reluctantly, taking the magazine and newspaper from her. On the front page of the newspaper is a picture of Pyrrha and Weiss, reading 'Pyrrha Nikos and Schnee Dust Company Support Illegal Relationships'. On the cover of the magazine is a picture of Weiss and Blake and I reading 'Weiss Schnee has two new partners on each arm, but is she really in a polyamorous relationship, or just faking?'. I read the story under the heading of the newspaper.
"Pyrrha Nikos and Weiss Schnee of the Schnee Dust Company have announced their support of same sex, polyamorous relationships. Weiss Schnee herself has claimed to be in a same sex polyamorous relationship, even though she has never before been in one of either times of relationships as far as the public eye knows. Our inside sources also say that Pyrrha Nikos has been dropped by two of her major sponsors." I turn my eyes form the paper to look up at Pyrrha. "Is this true!?"
Pyrrha nods, smiling sadly. "But don't worry, I knew it might happen when I agreed to the whole thing. Just... Keep reading."
"Many people have been boycotting against the companies that sponsor Pyrrha Nikos, as well as the Schnee Dust Company. However many people are now supporting the annulment of the law that will prohibit same sex, polyamorous relationships. Word of violence between the supporters and the anti supporters has broken out, saying that there has even been so much as vandalism, vocal, and physical altercations. The real question is no longer weather the law should be passed or not, but if it's really worth that much to stop." I stare at the words in outrage, crinkling the paper under my fists. "This is bullshit!"
"How can they say that!?" Neptune looks up at Pyrrha. "It's a totally biased opinion! They barely covered any of the actual peaceful support we've been given thus far!"
"I know, but there are already thousands of these newspapers circling around Vale, if not the entire four kingdoms." Pyrrha crosses her arms over her chest. "It's despicable, but there's not much we can do... At least it's not as bad as the magazine."
"What's!? How can the magazine be worse then this!?" I question, eyes wide with fury.
Pyrrha looks away from me. "Just read it."
I flip open the magazine, finding the page the article is on. I look over the words for a few minutes, reading them to myself before slamming the magazine down in an absolute rage.
"'Weiss Schnee can in no way be in a same sex, or polyamorous relationship, seeing as the only people she's ever been without men in the past. Anonymous source close to Weiss Schnee says!' 'Weiss Schnee is known for doing anything to gain the attention of her father, and this is clearly just another attempt at his attention!' 'She'll get bored of the two in a week and go back to dating boys like a normal girl!'" I say aloud the direct quotes form anonymous individuals, but I can guess that they are Weiss's family. "How can they say those awful things about Weiss!?"
"This is sick!" Yang's eyes go red with her own rage, reading over the magazine. "They don't just attack Weiss either, they attack you and Blake too! 'Obviously only in it for the attention and to get something from the Schnee family.' 'They aren't even attractive, it's obviously a hoax!'"
"I couldn't care less about what they say about me, but when they go after my girlfriends, they've gone too far!" I stand up, heading out of the dining room. Rage takes over, and I don't even feel like I have a hangover anymore, the only thing coursing through me is pure, unbridled fury.
"Ruby where are you going?" Pyrrha grabs my shoulder. I whirl around, glaring at her, and she takes a step back.
"I'm going to find the people who said this about Weiss and Blake!" I shout.
"Ruby that's ridiculous!" Pyrrha puts a hand to her head, shaking it. "You can't just do that, you don't even know who said it, it's anonymous!"
"I don't care, I know it's Weiss's family saying those awful things!" I cry, the few heads in the cafeteria turning at my outburst. "I'm not going to let them talk about Weiss and Blake like that!"
"Ruby you need to calm down." Pyrrha hisses at me. "Making an outburst like this will not help our cause."
I open my mouth, but quickly close it. I sigh, running a hand through my hair. "It's just... It's not fair."
"I know Ruby, but life isn't fair, and it's not always good." Pyrrha puts a hand on my shoulder. "But it's like your said, that's why we're here, to make it a better place."
I stare at her, feeling ashamed for having made such a spectacle of myself yet again."I'm sorry Pyrrha, I know this isn't the time to be acting so aggressively."
"It's okay Ruby, just find Blake or Weiss, talk to them, just try to calm down." I nod, walking out of the dinning hall to find Blake in the library. She looks up from her book when she hears me coming.
"Ruby, are you okay?" She questions, getting up from her chair to come over to me. I shake my head falling into her embrace. Her heartbeat sounds strong and sure, and I close my eyes, letting it's steady rhythm drowned out the rest of the world. "What happened?"
"Blake the newspaper and magazines are saying such terrible things about you and Weiss!" I feel tears prick the back of my eyes, anger being washed over by fear and sadness. "They say that Weiss is faking it for her fathers attention, they say she'll just dump us in a week for some boy."
"You don't believe that do you?" Blake questions.
I shake my head immediately. "Of course I don't, but it's still so terrible to hear people saying that about her, acting like she's just some attention whore, when all she really wants is love and acceptance!"
Black strokes my hair as I hold onto her, nuzzling my face into the crook of her neck. "I know it's hard to read, or hear things like that Ruby, especially when they're being directed towards someone you love, but they're just words, they can't hurt you, and they have no power behind them unless you give them power."
I sniffle, wiping my tears away. "You're right... It's just frustrating."
"I know Ruby." Blake cups my cheer in her hand, stroking the skin with her thumb. "But you can't let it get to you, you have to stay strong."
I lean into her touch. "I will Blake."
"Good, now come on, let's go to our room and I'll help you finish the poster." I nod, smiling brightly up at her.
"Hey you two." Weiss greets us as she walks into our room I smile up at her from the floor, as does Blake. We have almost finished the poster, and are just putting the finishing touches on it. Weiss's hair is down from the bun it was in earlier this morning.
"Where have you been?" Blake gets, kissing Weiss on the cheek.
"I was at a meeting with some more interviewers." Weiss smiles tiredly. "And now I have to change."
"Oh yeah, that thing with your dad." I frown, getting up to hug Weiss. "You sure you wanna go? We support you if you don't."
"No, I really don't want to go." Weiss sighs. "But it's the right thing to do."
I nod, kissing her sweetly. "Blake and I will be there the whole time, so don't worry, if anything happens we'll be there for you."
"Thank you Ruby." Weiss smiles at me. "Thank you both."
"You'd do the same for us." Blake shrug, opening the closet. "So what are we supposed to wear to this?"
"Something elegant but sexy." Weiss smiles proudly. "I want to show you two off."
I giggle, looking behind Blake the closet. "I have a dress I've been dying to wear to a fancy occasion."
"I'm sure I can find something decent." Blake smirks, pulling out a long black dress with a slit down the side. "What about this?"
"Perfect." Weiss nods. I slip into the closet, rummaging around till I finally find what I was looking for.
"What about this Weiss?" I mumble, holding up a little red dress with a tight, corset like top and a billowing bottom.
"Beautiful Ruby." She smiles, kissing my forehead. "It will look amazing on you."
"What are you going to wear?" Blake asks Weiss.
"I'm going to wear..." Weiss pauses, looking into the closet. Her eyes light up as she pulls out a knee length, curve hugging white dress. "This!"
Blake and I look at each other before walking over to Weiss, kissing either one of her cheeks. "It's perfect, you'll look absolutely astounding!"
