I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed,
Get along with the voices inside of my head.
You're trying to save me, stop holding your breath.
And you think I'm crazy, yeah, you think I'm crazy.

"Hey… Hey, you there?"
There was a rumbling below him, and he grinned. He rolled over, head dangling off the bed. "You're here!"
Four eyes, all the color of shining butter, simultaneously opened out of the darkness.
"I knew you'd be back," he whispered quietly, looking up and around the room. The beast rumbled deep in its chest, head tilting slightly. He looked back down, sliding off the bed so he was lying on his side, facing the four eyes. "I missed you," he said, reaching a hand into the darkness. A cold tongue, also colored yellow, flashed out of the beast's mouth and curled around his fingers. He giggled, shoulders shaking. "You know, they're starting to think I'm crazy."
There was a sad keening sound and the tongue retracted. The yellow eyes moved, and he knew that the beast was copying his position: Lying on its side.
"But don't worry, nobody's come to adopt me yet," he continued, still whispering quietly. "Not with the way I've been acting. But Mother Superior is starting to discipline me."
He quietly turned his hand, showing the four eyes the slight bruises on his knuckles. "I hate her, you know?"
There was an angry hiss and the eyes seemed to glow, illuminating the underside of the bed. For a moment, the long black, slinky body was shown, but then he quickly reached forward and covered the beast's eyes. "Hey!" he whisper-shouted, looking around the room of sleeping children. "You can't do that, they'll find you!"
The glow died down and he took his hands off the beast's intelligent golden eyes. "I don't want to lose you, okay? If they found out they'd take me away, family or not."
The eyes looked down, shining with tears. The little boy sighed. "Don't worry. It's okay. I'll be here as long as you want me to. You gave me my name, anyways, you're like my parent, I guess."
"My… My little Sky."
Sky giggled again, softly as to not wake anybody. "Yeah! I'm your little Sky! We'll be together forever, you know. Forever."

"Hey… Hey, you there?"
Five years later, and the beast still rumbled its response. The preteen smiled and slid out of bed, tugging the covers down with him. "Hey there."
The four eyes opened, and two rows of teeth, matching the eyes, were revealed as it smiled at him. He reached out a hand and the tongue flicked forward again, curling around his fingers. Sky smiled at it, but sighed sadly. "I'm being adopted," he said quietly.
The eyes widened and the smile disappeared along with the tongue. The beast crooned sadly, scooting closer to him, but staying under the bed. Sky nodded at its silent question. "Yeah… Can you come with me?"
The eyes blinked slowly and the head tilted, tongue flicking out for a moment. Sky sighed and rolled over onto his back, staring up at the vaulted ceiling. "I don't want to go. I don't want to leave you."
"My Sky..."
He nodded, lower lip trembling and golden-brown eyes shining with tears. He turned his head, reaching an arm out to the monster. "I am. I'm your Sky. I'll always be your little Sk-"
"Adam? Are you awake? What are you- what are you doing?"
Sky's gaze shot over to the younger boy in the bed to his right. He was sitting up, yawning widely.
He instantly shut his eyes and feigned sleep, hoping the boy would just pass it off as his imagination. "Adam?" he asked softly, rubbing one of his eyes. After a few moments of silence, he shrugged and flopped back onto the mattress. "Oh well, I must have been dreaming."
Sky laid there for another ten minutes, hand placed on the beast's snout and eyes closed. Finally, he let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. "It's okay," he whispered, turning back to the beast, only to find the eyes closed. "Hey… Hey, please? I'm here tonight. I'm still yours. For tonight, at least."
"Sky... My little Sky..."
He reached into the darkness, grabbing onto the gold and amethyst pendant around its neck. "Can I have this to remember you?"
It warbled sadly, but he saw golden claws go over to it, sliding the glowing amulet off of its long neck. A black hand held it out, and Sky grabbed it and quickly slipped it on over his head. The cold metal bounced off his chest slightly, and he wrapped his hand around it. "I'll remember you always, okay? Will you remember me?"
"Yes... You are my little Sky. I will remember," it purred lightly, words hissing like a snake. Sky smiled and scooted closer to it. He held out an arm and hugged it, holding the amulet close to his neck. "Yeah, I'm your Sky, no matter what."

"Adam! Come on, your parents are here."
Sky sighed, patting his bed one last time. "I love you," he whispered quietly before standing, pulling on his shoulder bag that held what little valuables he owned. "Coming, Mother Superior."
From underneath the bed, four yellow eyes opened up, all shining with tears. "My little Sky…"
Sky looked over his shoulder, guilt twisting his heart and tearing his subconscious to shreds.
"Ah, there he is!"
Mother Superior was all smiles, hands folded behind her back. "Mrs. and Mr. Dahlberg are here, Adam. Come along now."
Sky sighed and walked, head low. The nun's smile instantly fell once his back was turned, and she followed close behind him. But when they came to the main desk, she was smiling again. "Adam, your new family."
Sky looked up at them, brushing a brown curl away from his face. He waved meekly, heart heavy with the knowledge that he was leaving his best friend and true parent behind. "Hi."
Mrs. Dahlberg smiled, rushing over to him and wrapping him in a hug. Mr. Dahlberg joined, wrapping one arm around his wife's shoulders. "Adam, it's good to see you my son!"
"I'm not your son," Sky mumbled quietly, too soft for his new 'parents' to hear. Instead he brought up a fake smile. "Yeah, I can't wait to get to your home!"
They didn't see the tears starting in his eyes. They only started leading him away, out of the door of the orphanage and into their minivan.
He stared out, eyes shining with tears, as they drove away. His new 'father' reached over his shoulder, tossing Sky a pair of glasses. "Hey, I got you these! They aren't much, I know, but I hope you like them."
Sky looked down, quietly sliding the shades onto his nose. "They're a bit big," he said, bringing up a fake smile. "But thank you, I love them!" His hand went to the amulet tucked under his shirt and he had to forcefully swallow past the lump in his throat.

Sky stared up at the ceiling as he lay in bed, biting back the tears. "Hey…" His voice cracked, and he couldn't get any farther. He rolled onto his side, pulling the cover over his head.
He left it behind. He left his one friend—the one person who ever accepted who he was.
"Hey… Hey, are you-"
Once again, that was as far as he got before he broke down. Sky sobbed, pulling the pillow over his head to muffle his cries. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't want to leave. A-are you there?"
And suddenly there was a sad rumble. Something crawled into the bed with him, curling around his body. He blinked and lifted the pillow slightly, brown-gold gaze meeting the yellow eyes.
Sky cried out in happiness, jumping up and flinging his arms around the beast's skinny neck. "You followed me," he whispered, hugging the beast as close as possible.
"Sky… My Sky…"
This was inspired by The Monster, as seen at the beginning. I was battling myself, trying to determine if I was going to write about Seto to this song as a songfic, or do what I did above. In the end, this happened.
I actually really, really like this little idea. You know? There's something about Sky befriending a four-eyed monster that lived under the bed in his orphanage, only to be adopted and have to leave it. I thought about keeping it that way, with the monster staying behind and Sky heartbroken because of it. And as for him being called Adam? Well, his name is Adam. But the monster calls him Sky. Why? yeah, I plan to continue this.
And in other news, every review I got for the last one-shot said that I should keep Nitram as a permanent character. Guess what? You got your wish.
Hope you enjoyed, leave a review, let me know what you think of this. Thanks for being awesome, guys. Love ya.
