Ch 25
Several months later, all was back to normal; well…almost. Brennan had healed both internally and externally. Booth no longer had anything to prove. They were making their way to being together. It was almost sweet, minus the debates and constant bickering. True to their fashion, no one knew anything for sure. It was all speculation for the pool at the FBI and Jeffersonian.
Booth helped Brennan through both of the trials. Graham Smith was put in a high security mental facility for the rest of his life. Hannah got ten years, five with good behavior, on all the charges that Caroline could come up with. She was trying to get a tv movie of the week, but Caroline also nipped that in the bud. Hannah will never get another serious journalism job again. Her field had shunned her, especially when she was trying to sell her story to TMZ and some trashy tabloid magazines.
Brennan and Booth walked into the visiting room, waiting for Hannah. Apparently, she had wanted to talk to them and ask for forgiveness. Booth had thought it was to get out in five years, not ten, but his Bones had a forgiving nature to her. Brennan did want to forgive Hannah, so she wouldn't have to think of her again, for her own peace of mind.
Hannah walked in. She was wearing her orange jumpsuit, hair a little frazzled. "Thank you both for meeting me here. I wanted to say that I am sorry for all the harm I have caused."
Brennan smiled. "You are forgiven, Hannah." She got up and started to walk away.
"Don't you want to know why I am sorry? Aren't you the least bit curious, Bones?" Hannah laughed.
"Hey, I always told you not to call her that!" Booth was raising his voice, but not yelling. The guard nodded to him.
Brennan turned around. "Obviously, you are not sorry. I am sad for that. I am sad for you. However, I refuse to keep hate in my metaphorical heart. So, you are forgiven. I am however, growing a fetus, Booth's baby. I am tending to tire easily. I am definitely tired of this. So if you have found religion, or just came here to call me Bones and laugh at me, it is fine. Booth and I are building a life. This new life we have, we will never have to think of you again. So, goodbye and good luck. Even though I do not believe in luck, you may need it."
Booth and Brennan left the tiny visiting room. Booth had his hand firmly on Brennan's back, where it belonged. Hannah had a single tear rolling off of her face. She had lost. Whenever she had "played" people before she never had any repercussions. She always got her man, and then moved on. Now she was sitting in jail for five to ten years. Her career is gone. Her credibility was gone. Her former boyfriend and his "partner" were having a baby. 'Better than me,' she thought to herself and laughed.
