So, Uriah's heart is beating and Andy fainted. He's not out of the woods yet, but things finally different.

Chapter 25: Lying
"Ann, wake up." I hear my brother's annoyed and worried voice. Only he can sound like both at the same time. I blink my eyes a few times and get blinded by a bright light and it takes a few moments to readjust my eyes. The ceiling is in my line of sight as well as Zeke, Bass and Christina. Bass looks annoyed while Zeke looks worried and Christina is bored.
"Ouch." I say. "What the hell happened?"
"You fainted. It tends to happens when you don't eat or something when you're prego." She states with a straight face. I groan and try to get up, but Christina and Bass push me back onto the ground. "No, we're waiting for the wheelchair." I furrow my eyebrows.
"I don't need a wheelchair. I'm fine." I go to get back up, but Bass just gives me his look, so I stay put.
"Good." He says before looking behind him. "What took you so long?" he barks at someone.
"They are in the waiting room, Four." A guy says before Bass rolls his eyes and looks back down at me.
"Now it's time to get up, but slowly." He says as he rests a hand on my shoulder and gives me his hand. Slowly but surely, I stand up and lead to sit in the wheelchair. "Now, stay put." I roll my eyes.
"You can't make me." I mumble defiantly, but I'm too dizzy and tired to move. So I don't plan on disobeying him. I get punched in the arm for that comment.
"Miss, I need you to tell me how your feeling." A doctor bends down to my level and rests a hand on my arm rest.
"Why?" I ask him stubbornly. I'm not in the mood to answer questions. All I want to do is get into Uriah's room.
"Because you just fainted." He states as if he's trying to hold in his annoyance. I glare at him for a minute before answering. If I annoy him that much then he can leave me alone.
"How do you think, Doctor?" I snip before trying to move the chair towards the door, but I have no clue how to work this stupid thing. I groan and look at one of the wheels. "I just fainted. How am I supposed to feel?" I try to move the wheel back and forth, but it won't move. "Damn it, how is this thing supposed to work?!"
"Calm down, Andy. You're just going to over work yourself." Christina says with a sigh as she sits on the other arm rest of my chair. I look at her and see she is trying to calm me down with that straight face of hers. I sigh and give up.
"Now, I'm going to have to have you eat something to help get your strength back up and make sure you get your prenatal. We don't want to have more problems, do we miss Andy?" The doctor asks me as if I have to answer yes. I just lean my head on Christina's shoulder annoyed.
"Do whatever the hell you want; I just want to get in the room." I tell him in a defeated sigh.
"Good, I'll have that arranged." He says before leaving us alone.
"How are you feeling, Aundrea?" Caleb speaks up finally and I lazily look at him. He looks both concerned and relaxed. Unlike how he's been the last few hours/days.
"Dizzy, tired, hungry, relieved and confused. What else do you want me to say? Shouldn't that all be obvious?" I ask him in an even tone.
"Still needs to be asked though." Caleb states with a sudden sad look on his face. I sigh again and move my attention to Zeke.
"Enough about me, you look like shit." I state and Christina and him laugh.
"Yeah, I wonder why?" Zeke gives me a half smile and nudges my shoulder. "How long did it take you guys to understand all of this? The whole being watched thing and all?" He asks as he gestures around the hallway.
"Awhile." Christina says with a smile. "I'm still not used to it."
"Like how much of our lives did they see?" He continues. "Do they like to watch us pee or something? Not that I mind. If people want to watch it, that's their problem." I smile a little bit at Zeke's confidence level and jokes.
"Some things they don't watch, similar to the control room in Dauntless." I tell him. "Only certain people they try to watch all the time." Zeke thinks for a moment before nodding.
"So who where they?" He asks as he leans on the wall facing his brother's room. There is only one doctor in there right now and she's talking with Hana quietly with the door shut.
"Mom and me." I tell him as I look at him. "But they still turned off the screens if they had too." I add quickly as Zeke starts to burst out laughing.
"Made sure and asked didn't you?" He mocks. "Once a Stiff, always a stiff." He says and I glare at him.
"Asshole." I snap before Christina grabs me and keeps me in my seat and he laughs some more.
"I'm just messing with you, sis. Take it easy." Zeke laughs again. "So why were they following you and your mom? I get your mother is kind of crazy, but still."
"Because neither of them are predictable." Christina answers before I get a chance too. "Andy's mood swings threw them for a loop too."
"I found them to be enjoyable." He says with a wink shot at me and I give him a disgusted look.
"Stop that, it's gross!" I protest. All I want to do is be near Uriah. I need him. If he wakes up, I want to be there.
"I just love messing with you." He says as there is some movement in the room Zeke is leaning up next to. The door opens and Bass walks out. Wasn't he just with us? I look around to make sure I'm not seeing double. "How is she?"
"She's resting still." Bass announces. "Not ready for much company." I look at him confused.
"Who's resting?" I ask as he looks over at me.
"Tris." He states in an even voice and my eyes widen.
"She's okay?!" I ask as I try to get up, but Christina again stops me. "How did the surgery go?"
"Fine, she's been out for a few days now, but most of the time sleeping." Bass says softly. "The bullets didn't hit her spine like they original thought." I blink a few times. Both of them are safe. Honestly, I forgot about Tris during my desperation the last few days, or however long it's been.
"That's amazing." I breathe out as I stare at the closed window as if I could see her like we could all see Uriah. I take in a deep breath in relief. My friends are safe. Now I'm torn. I want to see Uriah, and stay with him. But I also want to see Tris. My sister. "Is she up for me to go see her?" I ask quietly and Bass nods.
"She was actually asking for you." He says before walking over to me and kicking two things on the back of my wheels and Christina stands up.
"Go ahead, I've already seen her." She says as Bass pushes my chair to the door and opens it for me. He doesn't say a word as he pushes me into the dark room and I can see the bed with the machines hooked up to the little girl in the bed. Tris… She turns her head and looks at me with a tired smile.
"Hey, long time no see." I state with a smile back and she laughs a little weakly as Bass pushes me next to her. The covers are up to her neck and I can't see anything else going on with her. It could be as if she just woke up after Peter beat her up.
"Yeah, long time." She says as she just looks at me and the door behind us closes. I turn and see Bass is gone now. I think I've been set up. I turn and look back at her tired face and I see a breathing tube in her nose as she takes in a deep breath. "What happen? No one is giving me a real answered on how I'm still alive." She asks. Jumping to the heart of the issue, just like Tris.
"Cara and I were caught and one of the men said David was waiting for Caleb. So we killed them and I got my guns and came after you guys." I tell her softly. Tris just looks at me for a moment.
"I barely remember David telling me Cara knocked herself out." She states as she tries to remember.
"She wasn't with me at the time." I tell her. "But you did tell me about it." Tris seems to think for a moment before replying. She must be really tired or on so much pain killers she can't think. The look on the girl's face seems like she is trying hard to remember. Does she not remember me coming in there? What would she think if she knew I did? She would probably try and kill me for being stupid. Well, not really. Tris would be more upset more than anything. As she lays and tries to sort out her mind I just wait patiently for her to figure things out. Should I tell her? She might tell the others. And that is something I don't want.
"I thought I was dying." She says suddenly. I look her square in the eye. There seems like they're a little glossy. "I was ready for it as long as I got the people I love safe." Tris takes in a deep calming breath and shut her eyes. "My mom was waiting for me." I narrow my eyes as I remain silent. "She was telling me that she loved me and that this is real abnegation. Giving one's life up for another. Real sacrifice, but she didn't want me to lose the family I made." She saw her mom when she was dying? A moment passed as we looked at each other. "I remember your calling my name then." Slowly I nod. "Everything was so fuzzy at the time; I can't remember anything other than mom telling me to stay with you and Tobias."
"Tobias wouldn't have handled it well if you died." I breathe out. "Neither would I."
"Now one thing I'm not sure of is how I got to surgery. Did you carry me?" She asks and my eyes faultier from hers a little bit.
"Yes." I state slowly before looking at her. I don't want to tell her. I really don't.
"What happen?" She asks innocently. I press my lips together and I feel the lip ring I got to get Uriah to notice me during initiation. Christina told me that when I lie I tend to look to the left or something. So I focus my thoughts on the true parts.
"I don't know. I haven't really thought of it much in the last few days." I tell her with a shrug. The last thing I want to think about is that moment. "The others don't really know either, do they?" She shakes her head no.
"No one told them how I got out of there, but Christina thinks and made everyone else think that I walked out and you found me in the hallway." She says simply. "No one really knows because the security room was destroyed." Come to think over it, only Nita and I know what happen really. Since the security room is damaged. Bass only knows I saved her…I think.
"That was Nita and my doing." I confess. "Since the lights weren't turned off. We didn't want to take the chance." Tris looks at me confused now.
"You and Nita? I thought you hated her." She states and I shrug.
"Nita didn't hurt Uriah." I explain and Tris gets even more confused.
"I'm not understanding what you mean." She admits. "It might be the painkillers on board, but I don't understand what you mean."
"She didn't mean to get any one hurt from our group." I tell her. "She actually had someone to clear the area and was following Uriah and I before we walked into the doors, but he was found out and was shot." I further explain and Tris just looks at me weird. "I saw the footage. She didn't mean to hurt him. Everything links back up to David in this place. It's actually quiet sick if you ask me." Tris takes a moment to think.
"I don't think I'll be able to even look at it, the system totally restarted and crashed and the security room caught on fire." Tris says with a shrug and I burst out laughing.
"So that's what Reggie did." I laugh as I brush the tears from my eyes. "I beat the living shit out of it and she had Reggie set the room on fire!"
"Really?" Tris asks me after to joins me in laughing. Her laugh is airy and really weak and she starts coughing. "I can see you beating on it."
"Oh so I'm a violent person now, huh?!" I acted hurt, which makes us laugh harder. Tris has to lean to the side to get air in her and I notice the blanket shift and there is a bandage up to her collar bone. "I guess that's enough laughing for now, I don't want you to rip your stitches." I state as I start rubbing her back until she calms down, having to stand up while doing so.
"I guess that would be bad." She says once calmed down and rolled back over. "Now why are you in the wheelchair?" She asks with a hint of a smile. "I thought you were all tough and didn't need one." I roll my eyes.
"Apparently I just fainted from lack of food and this thing was complaining." I rub my belly as I sit back down.
"Well, he must get that from dad then." Tris jokes and I can't help but smile quietly.
"Him and his cake." I snicker a little bit and shake my head. "And any food for that matter."
"Or his uncle's cake for that matter. Have you seen him when it comes to his cake?" I nod at Tris' reaction. "If I would have died, your bother told me he would have only gone to my funeral if there was cake." I widen my eyes for a second.
"That bastard!" I half shout with a laugh. "You're his girl! I think I will have to have a word or two with him."
"That or hit him." Tris adds with a painkiller induced grin. God, this girl is funny on pain killers.
"That too." I agree right before we hear the door open. We both turn and see a nurse.
"Ms. Andy, can I ask you to leave for a bit? There is something's I need to change for Tris." She asks gently as we finish our laughing.
"Why?" I ask her calming down. That's when the nurse purses her lips.
"Bandages and some other stuff. You'll be able to see her in a bit." She says and I just concede, mainly because she asked nicely. I guess they learned to tread water around me now that their memory is gone.
"Alright." I look at Tris and she seems exhausted. "I guess I'll leave you be." I sigh as I squeeze her hand and stand up from the wheelchair. I'm leaving that sucker in here. Then I leave the room and shut the door.
"Everything is being taken care of there. Evelyn and Johanna are going to sign a peace agreement." I hear my brother tell the group as the door shuts. Everything out here seems pretty relaxed compared to the last couple of days we just went through. Like nothing happen and we were in Erudite after a mishap during an adventure or stupid stunt we did and two of us got too hurt to be treated in Dauntless. Would things have been like this if Jeanine didn't conspire against the Divergent with David? If there was no war? Maybe, I can't say for sure because that's not the life we live in now. Bass is leaning against the wall by the door Tris' door with his arms crossed over his chest like he did back during my initiation. Zeke is standing across from the door so he can see into his brother's room with Christina sitting on the floor in front of him, carefree. Caleb and Cara are standing towards Uriah's door like any erudite would with their backs straight and arms at their sides or folded behind their backs.
"What's going to happen afterward?" Caleb asks curious as I adjust the situation.
"Make it like one of the normal cities apparently." Zeke speaks up now. "No more factions."
"Could we really go back to the factions, logically?" Cara asks.
"Well they can't really go back to factions now that everyone knows." Christina points out. "It won't work now that we can have freedom to leave the city." She sighs. "Knowledge is power, isn't it?" Cara nods.
"That's what I was meaning. A handful would try, but it possibly won't work out because there is nothing keeping the people there to listen and follow. We did have the threat of the unknown beyond the fence, now that we know there is no fear in it." She further explains.
"The question is, who's going back?" I speak up. "Who is really going back into the city we knew and be able to live differently than the only way we know? How are we going to live day by day and having to stop ourselves from running and jumping into trains and other stupid stuff? Or going to the lab and studding the effect of a chemical has on something? Or being able to flat out tell people want your thinking? Or even not forget ourselves? We've grown up in this life. It's the only thing we know." I ask them something that has been bothering me. How can I go back there? Memories of the past are a fear for me. Everyone looks at me as nothing is said. Bass gets up off the wall and wraps an arm around my shoulder.
"We don't know, but we have each other to help us." He says in a quiet and low voice. "We all are here for you, Ann."
"Exactly. You can't get rid of us like that, girly. Even if you tried. We've already told you this." Christina tells me with a smirk. I can't help but nod. Thanks guys.
