Friendly reminder that Little Grace and Big Ella moved to NYC during a previous chapter. I don't remember if I exactly said they moved or not, but they did.
Nat wheeled himself to the piano in his apartment.
Being so preoccupied with school, and various practices... NBB hadn't had time to practice all that much. As a result, Nat's musical fingers were worn down and didn't work the way they used too.
He clicked a couple keys but wasn't all the impressed with the way they sounded.
He thought back to his last conversation with his cousin Josh, but he didn't seem to be in the mood for an emotional flashback.
There was a knock on the door.
Nat looked up and rolled to the door, opening it with some difficulty.
"Little Grace."
"Hey Nat."
He led her to the kitchen, "Are you hungry?"
"No, I'm okay. Quassim just called me, he said you've been down lately."
Nat nodded, Quassim had dropped by earlier wanting to talk. Supposedly, he'd come because Rosalina thought that Nat should talk to someone. But, Nat hadn't really been in the mood to talk.
"How are you two doing?" He asked, trying to make everything sound casual.
"We're okay." Nat knew that they'd been on a couple of dates since she and her family moved to New York. "But is that really want you want to talk about?"
"I'm fine. I just wish everyone would stop worrying about me."
"You didn't exactly go through a normal life experience, Nat. You almost died."
"Really? I didn't notice."
"Nat, sometimes you have let people help you. And that's not a bad thing. You're not Superman, you're not invincible. You just have to keep your friends. Even Superman has the Justice League."
He shrugged, "I'm not trying to like... save the world or anything. I'm just..."
"Scared?" She offered, to which he nodded. "Look, if you're afraid. Just admit it. That's the first step to overcoming it... and to not be afraid anymore."
Nat gulped, "This is not how i thought this year was gonna go."
Little Grace nodded in agreement, "I never thought I'd move to the Big Apple. But, I guess life has a funny way of doing things."
"Yeah."
...
Quassim had been a little offset by his conversation with Nat.
The leader of the Naked Brothers Band insisted that he was okay and didn't need to talk, but this was his best friend. He knew that Nat was struggling, whether or not he'd admit it.
He pulled out his phone and held 1 for speed dial.
"Hey Little Grace." He said when she picked up. "I need you to go talk to Nat... he's been down lately, and I'm hoping you can help him out."
"All right. Are we going to see each other tonight?"
"Yeah, I'll come pick you up at seven."
"Great, bye."
He walked to the park and ran into David, who was playing his Gameboy.
"How's it hanging?" David asked, looking up from his system.
"Worried about Nat man."
"Why?"
"Just with everything that happened ya know? I don't want him to have to go through it alone."
"Yeah, I know what you mean. Hey, why don't we have a beach day or something? Something to get his mind off of it..."
"But can he go to the beach? He's gonna be in the wheelchair for a couple more weeks according to the doctors."
David tried to think of something else, "We could go to the arcade."
"Or a ball game!"
"Let's set it up soon." David said, pulling out his phone and accidentally shutting off his Gameboy mid-level. "Dang it!"
"what?"
"I... uh... lost my progress." He said quickly, sending a massive group text.
"You're a loser."
...
It took a week to set up and prepare for, but the entire gang went to a professional baseball game that Thursday.
Jesse, Sonny, and O'Nita supervised while the kids enjoyed the game in their respective couples.
Alex brought Melody along, against the wishes of Jules Feiffer.
Patrice and Rosalina got closer in the past week, which helped Patrice make friends with everyone else in the group.
Kristina and Thomas were happy together, even though they'd only been dating for a week.
Abby (Nat's little cousin) and Big Ella sat with Jesse and talked to her about stuff like make-up and boys.
"Are you enjoying yourself?" Rosalina asked, curious why her boyfriend was humming.
"What? Oh yeah... I just, had this idea. For a song."
"Oh?"
"Too early to talk to details, but I think it's gonna be a good one."
"It always is with you."
Nat smiled, maybe Little Grace had been right. Accepting fear does make it easier to live with.
Little Grace smiled at Nat, glad that he'd been able to work through some of his problems in the past week.
"At least I'm older than thirteen now." Little Grace said, kissing Quassim on the cheek.
It took Quassim a second to remember what she'd said all that time ago.
"What are you talking about crazy child? I'm not in love with anyone..."
"You... You're not?"
"No." Little Grace replied, "And I plan to keep it that way... at least until I'm thirteen."
"I can wait." Quassim smiled.
She smiled back...
Nat looked out at the baseball diamond and began thinking of things most kids didn't.
...
Epilogue
Fast forward ten years into the future and NBB has graduated college with their respective diplomas and are beginning their lives.
Despite the odds, most couples survived the hardships of separation.
Nat graduated from Indiana University with a masters in Musical Education.
Rosalina graduated from Harvard with a masters in Law.
Thomas went to Purdue Lafayette in North West Indiana to play sports and get a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. He is still with Kristina.
David and Patrice went to New York State University for a Bachelors in Business, a degree they used to open a family business after their marriage.
Kristina went to Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Indiana for Nursing and is currently working through Medical School to become a doctor.
Alex and Melody broke up a few years back, but upon returning home from his college work in California, he was reunited with Juanita and began a relationship with girl number two.
Little Grace and Quassim went to New Orleans for college and started several projects to protect people in the event that a hurricane ever came back with as much force as Katrina did.
Abby was legally adopted by the Wolffs shortly after the baseball game, and went to school for English Education in honor of her late brother's dream to become an English teacher.
Nat and Rosalina hadn't married yet, because for whatever reason, Nat hadn't popped the question.
Rosalina was at the point she was tired of waiting and was ready to do it herself. She just had to figure out the right way to do it.
That was twelve months ago.
Nat and Rosalina had taken a trip down to New Orleans to help with some of the organizations Little Grace and Quassim set up.
"You remember David dancing around like a chicken? Rosalina asked.
"I remember you telling me that you just wanted to be my friend."
Rosalina giggled, "Well, if someone wasn't so unclear about who he loves in life."
"I'm not unclear, you're just bad at reading."
"I disagree, my SAT scores in reading were twice as high as yours."
"Maybe not twice..."
She laughed and kissed him.
"So... back where it all began."
"Yep." Rosalina replied, thinking of all the great memories from their childhood.
"You know... it wasn't easy. Getting through everything after what happened with Josh."
"I know." She said, gripping his hand. "But we're a team. We work together."
"Yeah... but I always wondered what it would have been like if you hadn't been there. Helping me through it."
"You would have had the guys... and Kristina. Actually, if it wasn't for me there wouldn't have been a problem in the first place."
"I don't think that's true." Nat said, wobbling a little because his legs had never healed a hundred percent.
"Are you okay, do you need to sit down?"
"I'm fine." Nat said, falling to his knee. "Ugh..." he groaned.
"Nat!"
He looked up and she saw that there was no pain in his eyes... but in his hand...
"Nat..."
It was beautiful ring with a diamond heart in the middle.
"You're my only love... my only never ending love. You took my heart away... and now I love you so... and thanks to you... I have won the greatest prize in your beautiful eyes. Rosalina... you're the girl of my dreams, I'll do anything for you... Your love is like a crazy car... But it leads me where I need to go. Now... I've got a question... for you. Do you love me?"
She had to remove her hand from her mouth, "Yes..." she whispered quietly.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes!"
...
Yes yes, that is it! This chapter marks the final conclusion to Naked Brothers band Season Four. It did not exactly build the way I originally intended, but I think it's still a good story with hints of more mature themes... as well as a mix of what we know and love as NBB.
I tried to include everyone in the epilogue that played a major role in my story to answer final questions.
My last request for you has two parts:
One: check out some of my other stories. I've written for American Dragon, Power Rangers, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and more.
Two: Review just one last time to tell me how much you liked, or hated my story. but I'm guessing that if you made it this far that you had to have liked it at least a little bit. Or at least I'm hoping.
Thank you for your loyal reading, and I hope to bring in more readers to this and my other works.
Farewell for now... "It's not really goodbye after all."
