Author's Note: Hello? Anybody still there? Do you even remember me? ;) I owe you an explanation, I guess. Well, I can't really explain it, to be honest. At first I was on vacation, then I was very very sick, then I had a lot of stress because of school and then it was christmas time and then I was on vacation again and now I finally feel like writing again.
But, I was not lazy, I re-read the whole story and corrected every mistake I noticed on the way! I also changed some things especially in chapter ten and twenty. I added some scenes and re-wrote some parts. I also changed the name from 'Friezer' to 'Frieza'. If you like, I think it will be worth to re-read some chapters ;-) I hope you can forgive me and have fun while reading!
Short summary of the last chapters: Bulma is pregnant, Frieza's tournament occured, Goku won against Raditz, Vegeta won against Zarbon, Tarble lost against Nappa and is dead. Nappa killed the still pregnant Bulma and Vegeta wants to take revenge on Frieza for killing everyone around him.
Towards Tomorrow
Chapter 25 - A Song Of Sorrow And Strength
一 日 三 秋
One day - three autumns.
Meaning missing someone so badly, one day feels like three years.
- Chinese Chengyu
''My, my, Vegeta. Don't you want to bring the corpse of your mate somewhere save, for a proper burial? Because when I am finished here, there won't be much left of this place", Frieza hissed and laughed a dirty laughter.
Vegeta clenched his fists in anger, partly because Frieza had a valid point. He should really keep her safe, or what was left of her. For her parents. They would want to bury her. He could not imagine the look on their faces when they will be told their only child had died. That he, Vegeta, was the guilty one. That he had broken the promise he had given to her mother.
''Oh, Vegeta. I give you one last chance. Kneel before me, right now and swear me your loyalty and I will show mercy'', Friezer offered.
''I don't kneel for anyone. Never'', Vegeta replied.
It wouldn't have happened, if only he had left her alone, if he wouldn't have stayed at their house. Then, maybe, she would still be alive and smiling her warm smile, spending time with her loving parents, meeting a nice and uncomplicated guy... She would live a happy life. She deserved to live a happy life. But, instead Vegeta let her die. He had been so selfish, so incredibly selfish.
Frieza waited patiently as Vegeta landed next to his dead mate.
He remembered people saying, dead people looked peacefully, as if they were just sleeping, but Vegeta diasagreed. Bulma wasn't Bulma anymore. When she slept, she had a certain redness on her cheeks, the only redness she had now, was her blood everywhere around her. When she slept, she snored very quietly, like a puppy or something like that, now she didn't make a sound. When she slept, she always clung onto him, now he had to clung onto her, carrying her away from the upcoming battle.
Vegeta had seen a lot of dead people, the most of them he had killed himself, but this was a real nightmare coming true. Now he understood the agony he caused people. He could feel it. He could finally feel how they felt, what he had done to them. The pain he had caused. It has been his fault, but he was sure if Frieza hadn't been there, he wouldn't have been such a killing machine. But still, he was the one, ripping families apart, taking fathers away from their children and wife, he was the one, killing a mother's beloved children. He was a true monster and this was his punishment. He had no future anymore, without her, he felt empty inside, the connection he had with her, was gone and only left a silent echo behind. A faint memory of what had been there.
Her body felt cold in his arms. She was as light as a feather to him but at the same time as heavy as a rock. He brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, as if it would still bug her. Her blood left dark stains on Vegeta's spandex, but he didn't mind. He didn't care for anything, what would he care for? He had lost everything, it wasn't a great loss if he died today. Maybe he had a small chance of being reunited with his mate and his baby in the afterlife, if something like this even existed. He had nothing to lose.
He could not bare to look at her pale and motionless face. Everything he loved about it, had disappeared. The sparkle in her blue eyes, how she sometimes wrinkles her nose when she was angry with him for some reason, how she blushed when he touched her.
All of this was gone. She was gone. It was the cruelest thing, carrying her dead body. Feeling her cold skin gave him shivers. He would revenge her death, he was content to give his own life in the matter, for it was worthless by now.
But then a small voice inside of his head reminded him of something. A promise he had made what seemed like an eternity ago. She had asked him to do her a favor, for her birthday. She had begged him to not die, no matter what. She wanted him to live. He couldn't see why, but she wanted him to survive. He had promised it to her.
Now he carefully put down her lifeless body. For a moment he looked down at her, but he couldn't bare to see her lying motionlessly on a dirty ground. She deserved to lie on a bed of roses.
Frieza was the reason she was gone now. The reason why he would never see her blush again, never hear her high-pitched shrieking. She would never lie on his chest again, listening to his heartbeat. No one will ever again. No one loved him the way she did. Not for his power, not for his royalty, not for his fortune, not for his looks. For him. In the whole.
But Frieza didn't just kill the only one who ever loved him and whom he, he had to shamefully admit to himself, truely loved, no, he also killed the last bit of his family. The only brother he had. To whom he hadn't the best connection, but who still was his last remaining family member. Tarble did everything in his power to please his big brother, to be something Vegeta could be proud of. And he had always ignored him, insulted him, left him again and again. And still Tarble was courageous enough to stand his man, fight along side his brother, for someone he didn't even know properly, just because it was important to his elder brother. Even giving his own life in the process.
All of this didn't just make Vegeta sad. It made him angry. No matter how you put it, Frieza was always the one pulling the strings. Frieza was the one who decided who would live and who would die. He played god in a godless world.
An enormous rage flared inside of him. It licked through his mind, obfuscated his senses and made him feel stronger than ever before. Bulma, Tarble, the child, mother, father, Bulma Tarble the child mother father, BulmaTarblethechildmotherfather BULMA TARBLE THE CHILD MOTHER FATHER! Frieza...
''V-Vegeta? What is wrong with your hair? And, and your ki?'', Frieza asked.
Why did he seem scared? What of? Never in his life Vegeta had witnessed Frieza to be scared of something, or to stutter and be lacking for words.
Goku and Nappa who had been fighting the entire time, stopped and stared at him, as well. Nappa didn't look good. His nose was bleeding and his skin was covered in bruises. Goku seemed to be unharmed.
Vegeta walked towards Frieza, now confident again, he knew what he had to do. He had promised it. Frieza backed away. He backed away because he was approaching him.
''What is it Frieza, pissing your pants already?'', Vegeta asked and gave him a arrogant grin.
''How can this be? How can you do that?'', Frieza asked and pointed at him with his short, pink finger.
Things around Vegeta started to whirl around in the air, even the heaviest rocks shot upwards. Was he doing all of this? He could feel a soft breeze on his skin that hadn't been there a few minutes ago.
''Tell me now, Vegeta! What is that? A magic trick?'', Frieza grouched.
''I don't understand what you mean, Frieza. But soon I will let you magically disappear into thin air'', Vegeta answered.
''Vegeta! Your hair... it is golden!'', Goku shouted. Vegeta stopped walking and gave Goku a confused sort of look. To underline his words, he pointed to his own, still black, hair.
Vegeta reached for a flick of hair and held it infront of his eyes. It had indeed turned into a golden tone of color. When he let go of it, it again stood up against gravity as usual. What was happening with him?
''What does this mean?'', he asked himself.
''You've turned into a Super Saiyan, Vegeta!'', Goku said. Vegeta himself had told him about the myth of the legendary Super Saiyan, but still Vegeta was unable to realise that he himself had managed to transform into one, although he could feel the strength that ran through his veins, stained his muscles and gave him new fortitude. Was this how a Super Saiyan felt like? How could it be that he hadn't even noticed his sudden change of shape?
''What now? Saiyans transform into apes... This is completely different from anything I've ever seen before! Darn, what does this mean?'', Frieza wondered fearfully.
Vegeta felt different, he felt strong and confident, he could feel a new energy running through his body. This feeling was familiar, he had felt like that during every battle he had fought when he still was one of Frieza's henchman. But back then, there always had been a tiny thought saying he was inferior to Frieza, Frieza was the mighty one. Not him.
But now, he felt independent. Yes, he felt powerful.
''Prepare yourself to die soon, Frieza. I now am able to do what I wanted to do since I've seen your filthy and pathetic face for the first time!'', Vegeta shouted, slowly rising from the ground.
''We'll see, you arrogant fool!'', Frieza shouted back. He formed a gigantic energy blast and pointed it at Vegeta. He wasn't even trying to fight him, he wanted to outrun an infighting.
Vegeta could easily block his attack, simply reflecting it and shooting it back at Frieza. He seemed to slowly getting desperate. Now he shot a series of blasts at Vegeta, who could avoid all of them as if it was nothing. If he hadn't been a Super Saiyan, he would probably be dead by now.
Goku was still fighting Nappa and he was clearly superior. Nappa's right arm dangled in the air, as if it was broken. His face was covered in blood, his nose crooked, it was obviously broken. Goku's lip was bleeding, but you couldn't see any other damage.
It wouldn't take much longer and Nappa would be defeaded. Goku knew no mercy anymore. Bulma had been his best friend since childhood. Nappa had killed his best friend without any hesitation and now he was angry.
Meanwhile Frieza still tried to hit Vegeta with one of his attacks, but he wether blocked, reflected or somehow absorbed them, as if it was nothing. Vegeta felt the exhaustion, but he refused to show it, he didn't want to appear weak.
''This is getting boring, Frieza I think we should end this now'', Vegeta guessed. ''How about you Goku? Are you finished, yet?''
''It won't take much longer'', Goku answered. And indeed, Nappa was already lying on the ground, surrounded by his own blood. He gasped loudly.
''I'm sorry'', Goku said and killed him with a small ki blast. And he really was, you could read it on his face. Nappa was dead, the only one remaining was the galactic overlord himself. Or should we say former.
The end of Frieza was dreary and had nothing of his prestige attitude. In a last attempt to save his life, Friezer shot a death saucer at Vegeta. He managed to block it and to throw it back at him. Friezer jumped aside, but forgot that his attack would return, like a boomerang. Within a second, Friezer was cut in half and after Vegeta threw the death saucer back at him again, he was cut into quarters. His limbs lay on the ground, slowly bleeding out.
Frieza, the galactic overlord, the monster which terrorized hundreds of planets, killed thousands of people, was finally defeated. His eyes lifelessly pierced the grey and cloudless sky. Now there was nothing threatening to him, he was just an ugly face and nothing more.
Vegeta dramatically approached him, looking down at his remains.
''I told you not to mess with my people'', he said and gave him an arrogant grin. He wanted it to be the last thing Frieza would see. The last thing he would see would be his murderer's smiling face.
But Vegeta wasn't sure if he was even alive, or already dead.
Exhausted Vegeta let himself fall to the ground. It was over.
It was over.
He had ended it.
He had lost everything in the fight. Why was he still alive? It hit him like an ocean wave, he suddenly drowned in his bursting feelings. He had reached the peak of the hill of sorrow. Now, after Frieza was dead, the death of his family hit him once again. He got crushed by it.
Why had it to be him? He felt how all his strength left his body. He guessed he had turned back to his normal form again.
On his shoulder he felt a strong hand. He turned around and saw Goku, looking to the ground. It was then, when Vegeta noticed the wetness on his cheeks. Ashamed, he turned away, stood up and walked towards where he had positioned Bulma's body.
''We have to bury her. And my brother. The sun is burning, it is no good. We have to act fastly. Where do you bury the bodies of your people? We should also call her parents, it is no good. Are you listening?'', Vegeta mumbled.
''Vegeta, stop...'', Goku said.
''We have to get some kind of coffin, don't you think? And flowers for their graves. Bulma likes blue ones. Liked... Tarble, I-I don't even know which ones he liked. It is no good'', he continued.
''Vegeta, it is not necessary'', Goku tried to reach him.
''Should we dress them differently? They definitely need some clean clothes, it is no good. My clothes won't fit Tarble, what do we do? Buy new clothes?''
''VEGETA STOP!'', Goku shouted. It was very unlikely for him to raise his voice. Vegeta stopped reluctantly. He faced Goku, as if he was the one talking nonsense.
''What?'', he asked in a husky voice. He was confused. Goku came closer, again placing a hand on his shoulder, as if he wanted to comfort him.
''Vegeta, listen to me. We don't need to bury them. We have a Plan B'', Goku said.
''What?'', Vegeta repeated. He blinked several times more than usual.
''We have a Plan B. We don't need to bury them. Bulma didn't want to tell you, because she feared you would tell Frieza about it, in the heat of the moment, for example if Bulma's life was threatened'', Goku explained.
Vegeta knitted his brows in disbelief. What was Goku trying to tell him?
''I do not understand'', he confessed. Goku smiled at him.
''We collected the Dragon Balls! We can bring your brother and Bulma back to life!'' Goku beamed with joy.
''The what?'', Vegeta asked.
''You never heard of them? Well, it is a long story and we don't want to lose time, do we? Important is, that you realize Bulma and Tarble can come back. Shen Long, the dragon which lives inside of the Dragon Balls grants you any wish, if one collects all seven of them. So we can wish them back'', Goku finished.
Vegeta was speechless. We could wish them back? Why didn't his woman tell him? What about the child? How fast does it work? Would he see her again even today? Was he dreaming? He sure was dreaming.
''You are allowed to be happy now, Vegeta. You are going to be reunited with your loved ones very soon'', Goku promised. Even though Vegeta still didn't quite understand, he accepted what Goku was saying, he wanted it to be true.
Thank you. He didn't say it out loud, he would never do something like that, but he tried to let Goku feel his gratitude.
''Let's get going'', Goku said.
Author's Note: Some of you already guessed it. Of course I did not let my main character die just like that. But I have to warn you, there will be a twist. Not saying much, but it won't be like you might expect it to be. I guess...
