A/N: I had a great response to the last chapter and as per request this one will delve into what is happening with Janet and the next chapter will bring us back to Sam. I am so happy that you are all still enjoying the story because I absolutely love writing it. This chapter is very long and dialogue heavy but I still like it.

When he entered the isolation room the first thing he noticed was that somebody had thought to bring Janet a pair of standard BDU's so she didn't have to walk around the base in her hospital gown. Thinking about it, Daniel hadn't realised before but it unsettled him greatly to see her in a gown. She was sitting on the opposite edge of the bed with her back facing him, unsuccessfully trying to tie her long hair into a high pony tail.

He cleared his throat to let her know that he was there and she whipped her head around, startled by Daniel's sudden presence behind her.

"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you." He was unsure how to speak to her, she had been gone for so long and they never expected to see her again but here she was sitting right in front of him very much alive.

"Don't worry about it, I'm glad you're here."

Daniel couldn't help but smile at how awkward the conversation between the two of them seemed and he couldn't help but think of the first time he came back from the dead.

"I, ah, just came to let you know Sam made it through surgery."

"I know General Landry told me, but thanks for the thought."

Daniel was disappointed that she already knew about Sam, it meant that there wasn't really much point in him hanging around, but he really didn't want to be alone right now. He knew he couldn't go to Teal'c because he was sure that Jack would have mentioned that he didn't want Daniel anywhere near the ICU until he had gotten some sleep. Right now though, sleep was the last thing on his mind.

He sat looking down at where his hands rested on his legs nervously rubbing them up and down on his BDU's. Janet couldn't help but smile, Daniel hadn't really changed that much. He was still as socially awkward as ever when it came to personal situations. He still had that air of naivety about him, despite the muscle he'd built up over the years.

"I'm glad you're here Daniel, I, erm, don't really want to be alone."

He let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding

"Same here Janet, same here."

After a few seconds he cleared his throat and moved closer to Janet on the bed.

"So what did the General have to say?"

Again she couldn't help but smile, leave it to Daniel to stick his nose in somewhere it doesn't belong, she didn't mind in the slightest though.

"Ah he was just informing me that they have cleared me, apparently it's not the first time someone has come back from the dead." Daniel noted the humour in her voice and saw her look over at him with a glint in her eyes. A glint he'd forgotten how much he loved in those years she'd been gone.

"Said that they would reinstate me in the Air Force, I would probably get promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and he has a job in mind but he said he would let the rest of this-" She gestured to herself and the room around her "-sink in first. He actually told me to talk to you, see if you could give some insight into dealing with this."

Daniel looked shocked for a second "Me?"

"You are the only person I know that has come back from the dead more than once Daniel."

He ducked his head, but not enough to hide a slight rush of colour spread down his neck below his collar.

"Ah yeah I s'pose I am, well I dunno. Let your friends help you, there really isn't much else to it. Don't let your imagination run wild, you will think people are staring at you and talking behind your back. To be honest people will stare and talk behind your back but it only lasts a week or so and from what I remember most of it was in awe anyway. There was never anything offensive said, I had a lot of people come up to me and tell me how glad they were that I was back."

He lent forward and patted her knee. "I am sure everything will work out." She could tell that he wasn't just talking about her fitting back in.

"Thanks Daniel. Do you really think Sam will be okay?"

A sad look crossed his features before he looked back up into her face.

"For Jack's sake I hope so."

She nodded slowly.

"So those two finally got together?"

Now it was Daniels turn to smile.

"Yep got married and had a kid."

"WHAT?! Sam had a baby."

Daniel smiled again, he knew that Janet had told Sam it would be very unlikely that she would ever get pregnant after everything that her body had been through over the years.

"Yeah, Grace Louise O'Neill. She was born about 18 months after you died…ascended, whatever. Anyway Sam was pregnant when they got married but she didn't find out until after the wedding. Grace looks so much like Sam you wouldn't even know Jack was her dad, until she talks that is. Her mannerisms are nearly all Jack, it's terrifying really."

He got a thoughtful expression for a second and Janet didn't dare to interrupt him, she loved hearing about her friend's lives after she was gone, she didn't remember anything from her time as an ascended being. She was sure that over the last few years that she had spent a lot of time watching her friends and family, maybe even giving them suggestions along the way.

"She got Sam's smarts though, she may only be four but she is going on 40. She absolutely adores Cassie."

At the mention of her foster daughter's name her head shot up.

"How is she?"

Daniel seemed to think about his answer before deciding what to tell Janet.

"I'm not gonna lie, losing another mother hit her hard. We all supported her, Jack and Sam in particular, but it wasn't the same you know? She had a hard 18 months or so, but when Sam moved to be closer to her at college things seemed to settle down."

Daniel could see that she was close to tears now. "I hope it didn't inconvenience Sam."

"Oh not at all it actually worked out well, Sam didn't want to be working at the SGC while she was pregnant so she got transferred as head of R&D down at Area 51 for a while. She loved to be able to work with all of the technologies that we bought back from off world, it gave her more normal hours and it gave Cassie something else to think about. She stayed with Sam and helped to look after her when Jack wasn't there on the weekends."

She looked confused again. "Why didn't Colonel O'Neill live with them?"

Daniel seemed to scold himself for being so stupid, of course she wouldn't know.

"Ah he's actually a General now, well he's semi-retired. Anyway, back then after he was promoted to General he headed the SGC for a year or so but then he got a transfer to Washington where he was the head of Home World Security. He hated the politics but it meant he could fight for the SGC's future but still work semi-normal hours and he could fly down to Nevada every weekend to see Cass and Sam. It was hard but it worked for them and then a couple of months after Grace was born Sam was transferred back to the SGC so Grace had to go and live with Jack in DC, Sam struggled with it a lot."

"I couldn't imagine haven't to live away from a baby so young."

Daniel just nodded his head. "Anyway I am sure they will fill you in when she gets better. Oh did I mention Cassie is following in your footsteps, she is a final year med student at the Air Force Academy. She is due to graduate in just over a month."

"Is she here? Does she know I'm here? What if she doesn't want to see me?" All of her words seemed to come out at once and Daniel didn't know where to begin.

"Ah yes she is sitting with Sam at the moment. No she doesn't know you're here, we thought it would be better if Jack or Sam told her you were here and neither of them is really in a state to do that at the moment. And really Janet? Don't be ridiculous, of course she will be over the moon when she finds out."

"I hope so."

For a while both Daniel and Janet were quiet, and when Daniel finally felt himself begin to settle he felt Janet rest her head on his shoulder and her still lose hair fall onto his chest and tickle his face. He smiled knowing it wasn't only Cassie who was going to enjoy having Janet back.

A/N: Okay so this chapter doesn't really go anywhere but it gives everyone a bit of background to Jack, Sam and little Grace. Also puts a bit of a seed for future chapters (well into the future) and some good 'ole Daniel/Janet which I have always loved to read. Unfortunately this will probably be the last chapter for a couple of weeks I have mid-year exams coming up in just a couple of weeks so I will be spending all of my time cramming for those. I am hoping to be able to continue writing but I am not going to promise you guys anything.
